Part of iMac Screen is Fuzzy

Hi,
I recently bought an iMac (24" display), and I noticed that one small portion in the lower right hand corner of the display is hazy, much more so than the rest of the display, which is fine. Anything I place in the area is fuzzy, so its not related to the content being displayed. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or would I have to take it in to the Apple store? Thanks in advance,
Rishi Bedi

I noticed after being away for a couple of days that my 24" imac screen has a cloud in the lower right corner. Got to say it looks like the weather around here as it has been cloudy every day for the last month. I just took a hair dryer and blew it on to the screen and it cleared it up slicker then dog poop. it does appear to be condensation due to weather conditions. just hope it does no damage to the other stuff deep inside the computer. I think I will give apple a call on this to see what they say.

  • My ipad gets a black bar over part of the screen then freezes up, please help

Just today my 16gb ipad 2 ,bought in December 2011, started to get a black bar over part of the screen.  Sometimes 3/4 of the screen sometimes 1/4 then it freezes up and will not do anything.  If I try to reboot it I get a faint backlit only.  Any help would be appreciated!

On the iPad tap Settings > iCloud
Toggle Documents & Data off then back on then restart your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
On the iMac open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Documents & Data then reselect it then restart your iMac.

  • Part of the screen failing!

I have a big problem! I noticed that part of the screen is not accepting touch. It is a small strip along where the google tool bar is. This is a little anoying, I am also unable to press the d key when I am in wide screen using the key board. I also cannot change the wireless network. The picture on the screen is entirely visible. I am wondering what I should try or if I should just call apple and have them send me a box to repair it.

Well my first iPhone had three flashing pixels that stood out like a sore thumb. I brought it to a mac genius who got a kick out of it (not sure why it was funny) and then immediately swapped it out with a new one.
Well, my new one was great even though I decided to live with the 12 dead pixels it has...not all noticable all the time so I kept it. Fast forward a week and a half and now I have a complete dead spot on my iPhone. At first I thought it was software but the same spot is dead no matter what application is being used. I can't even express the disappointment that I have right now.
I've been an devout Apple fan for some time and was planning on picking up a new 24" iMac but the lack of Q.C. on the iPhone has put lots of doubt in my mind. Please help!! Do I try and get this story on the news? It'd be fun at least.....since I can't get any enjoyment out of my $645 (w/tax) phone!!

  • Tech Specs for 24" Imac Screen/Comparison

Does anyone have the actual tech specs for the screen itself in reference to the 24" Imac (response time, etc.)
How do you think the screen on the 24" Imac compares to this HP 24" monitor?:

The 24" ALU iMac's display panel is an *LG.Philips LM240WU2-SLB1*.
According to TFTcentral, it's an 8-bit S-IPS panel. For more specs see:
    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/panel_parts.htm
Great specs, but the specs don't say anything about iMac's problems with
uneven backlighting. The white 24" used the LG.Philips LM240WU2-SLA1,
and had a gorgeous display -- as does NEC's professional LCD2490WUXi.
Check the specs, but also check some [24'' ALU iMac screen photos.|http://picasaweb.google.com/TheLooby]

I don't have a mfgr's part number, but it uses a 6-bit TN panel. Faster
than S-IPS, but significantly poorer viewing angles. OTOH, it probably
doesn't have the brightness gradent problems common in ALU iMacs.
    For $75 more, HP's LP2465 and Dell's 2407 have superior 8-bit LCD panels,
    and much better warranties (3-year & 5-year versus 1-year on the w2408).
I'm sure there are many other good (or better) choices as well, but I haven't
    been monitor-shopping lately.

  • How can I get rid of blurry imac screen?

My 27inch imac is blurry in some parts of the screen. How can I resolve this? FYI, I turned off the zoom option in the system preferences>universal access.

Hi Allan, thanks for the response. Went to some old apple support forums and tried using a hairdryer on the screen as I thought it might be due to condensation problems. Was at it for 5mins and it was gone
Strange that such problems are still present in the newer iMacs... btw, mine is mid 2010 iMac as well so warranty is over. Probably a good idea to invest in AppleCare.

  • Small rectangle near top right of iMac screen goes blurred when encoding?

I posted this in the Compressor 4 forum and Russ H confirmed he experienced the same effect but didn't know why.
Here's the peculiarity and an explanation as to what is causing it would be appreciated.
A few weeks ago when I was encoding something in Compressor I suddenly noticed that part of my iMac screen had gone blurred.
I feared it might be about to pack in but further investigation showed that the perfectly rectangular blurred patch only occurred when using the Share Monitor.
    Very strange indeed!
This red rectangle shows roughly the area affected.
Inside is blurred with a sharp demarcation to the normal screen.
When I quit Compressor and the Share Monitor the patch immediately becomes clear again.

I have done an investigation and pinned down the exact cause, though I do not know why.
It is caused by Share Monitor but only appears when when you click on the i  (Show Info) button.
When you close the Show Info window, the area below it is blurred and remains so until you quit the Share Monitor.
Furthermore, a narrow band along the left side of the Share Monitor, stretching as far as the pointed bit of the window is also blurred.
If you click the screenshot to enlarge it, you will see that I have extended the red rectangle to the left and if you look carefully you will see that the "o" and "b" of  "Job" are blurred.

  • Dead/inaccessible parts on the screen after updating to mountain lion

I have updated my iMac (2007: 2.4 GHz, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) to Mountain Lion and have experiencened major issues when having several apps/windows open at the same time. This causes ”dead” parts on the screen that become inaccessible. When clicking somewhere on i.e. Safari or iTunes the window deselects, as if clicking on the desktop. In order to be able to type something in the iTunes quick search I then have to drag the whole window down to a part of the screen that isn’t dead. This means a lot of dragging up and down to be able to use my computer.
I have the same Problem on my MBP and done a lot of research but no one seems to have a similar problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    David

If you boot up in safe mode (hold down the shift key while booting until you see the Apple Logo) do you still have the problem?

  • The top part of my screen is dim, is there anything I can do myself to fix it?

I have a 20 inch early 2008 iMac that has been perfect for me, up until now. 95% of the time when I now start it up, the top part of my screen goes dim. I play with it and put it to sleep and wake it up immediately, and sometimes that will work and it will stay lit up. The computer is clearly out of warranty...is there anything I can do to help this? How much would a repair like this cost without a warranty? I'm so frustrated.

iMac's are about the worst computer in the world value speaking to buy becaues of their "closed" nature.
Your only choice seems to be to call a online Mac repair shop or Apple, send it to them and get a estimate.
Consider a MacPro for your next desktop machine, at least with that you can run out and get another monitor, or hard drive, or video card, or power supply, or ...and install it yourself.

    You use [Pythagorean theorem|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagorean_theorem]

to calculate how many pixels would go along the diagonal, C in the equation. You know A and B from the resolution numbers.
Divide that pixel number (C from above) by the diagonal measurement in inches to get the +pixels per inch+ number (PPI).
Divide the horizontal and vertical resolution numbers by the PPI number, to get the measurements in inches.

  • HP HDX16 Screen Problem (Fuzzy, blurry, flickering)

So, I'm having some issues with my HDX which has been flawless. It'sjust over 18months old.
One day all of a sudden the screen went fuzzy. I noticed when I bring the screen down (toward closing position) it then sharpens up and goes back to normal but only at that angle.
At first when this happened, the longer the laptop was on, the further I could push the screen back without it going fuzzy.
But now I can't and I can only view the screen at quite a low angle, it's very close to the keyboard. I've noticed it's going lower and lower each day!!
When the screen goes fuzzy it can be just fuzzy or even a coloured fuzz (different variety). It can also flicker to normal and fuzzy when I’m trying to find that angle where I can get a clear screen.
I’ve looked online and people have tried changing the inverter but the problem is still there, even buying a new lcd!! But it still could be one of them.
I know it’s not an lcd problem as the screen is flawless when I find that clear angle. Any suggestion please? I have a feeling it’s going to reach a point when I won’t be able to see anything at all and it’ll stay fuzzy.
I just called HP and they offer NO support for HDX models if it's got to do with the screen. But if it's for example a keyboard or non screen related problem they are willing to do an out of warranty repair.
I obviouslt questioned the guy and said it must mean you guys have a lot of screen problems but he claims all aprts are out of stock and product is discontinued. Surely they would still have a lot of parts anyway.
    Anyone else have any suggestions?

If the external display works well then there could very well be a loose connector causing the problem. That will require disassembly to investigate.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • HP-g093sa - Screen is fuzzy!

    Hi,
I brought this laptop just before Christmas and it has been running well, at first I didn't notice the fuzzy screen at all times, only when browsing the web as it is really visable in the address bar area. It is also fuzzy in all parts of the screen, most visable on black/dark colours or if the screen is white.
Is this a common issue? Surely this isn't acceptable, is there anything I can do to fix it? Or does it need to go in for repairs? Like I say this laptop is only just over a month old, brought from brand new and is always kept and travelled in a case and has never been dropped or been in any kind of accident.
I hope someone can help as the fuzzy screen really does bring on headaches!
    Thanks

  • There are coloured vertical lines on my iMac screen?

So, I was browsing Safari using my iMac the other day (as I always do), when my computer froze and I had to force shut down. Upon starting back up, I noticed that 1. there were coloured diagonal lines on my iMac screen, and 2. that my mac would not boot up unless I booted it using safe mode. I haven't had an issue with this iMac until now, so I am kind of concerned...
I know that this is not an issue with damage to the iMac screen because, well, when I took a screenshot using shift + command + 4, the coloured lines were still there!
So, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the cause of this issue could be? I'm wondering if it is linked to Safari (because when I open a new tab, Safari slows down massively and my top sites selection keeps appearing and disappearing rapidly. Does anyone know what is causing this issue and how I could solve it. I hope its nothign expensive like replacing the motherboard...

Yes, it does require some disassembly. Namely, removing the glass, screen and the GPU component. Total war could probably develop temperatures too high.
I don't know how familiar you are with reflowing. This is only a crash introduction, to get an idea what reflowing might include (i.e. not a detailed procedure)...
Reflowing theory to give you some background. Here and here in more detail.
To get familiar with iMac (only steps 1 through 9 apply). After that, GPU component can be taken out, and from that point on, the work is done on the GPU component.
GPU component is then disassembled in 3 key parts. The heatsink, the reinforcement, and the video card itself.
The video card and the heat sink are then cleaned carefully using alcohol from any residue of thermal compound. Any paper stickers must be peeled off, too.
Reflowing. Videos to get an idea how it is done. Here and here.
    New thermal compound is applied.
    Assembly.
It is a risky approach, especially if you are not comfortable with disassembling your iMac. In that case I would suggest you do not do that at all. Still, even then, I hoped it could give some clue to the issue and you might get someone to do it for you.
    Cheers

  • Dimming iMac screen

I've been using powerbooks for the last few years, and the dimmer keys will gradually dim the screen from bright, to dim, to almost dark & then compleely dark.
On the iMac, it dims the screen, but not to the same degree as the powerbooks. I'd like to make my screen darker than seems possible.
Is this a normal function of the iMacs?
    Thanks

The iMac screen is bright - especially in the normal room lighting conditons (as opposed to office lighting). For normal viewing gamma 2.2 and white point 6500 are best (native gamma and white point can also be used as they are close to these values) Gamma 1.8 looks pretty bad on these machines.
If that is still to bright you can make a dark profile in the Display pref pane's color calibration area with the expert settings (pull all the sliders down) - but that really will only increase the contrast - for the most part the whites will stay just as bright.

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.
