Part of itunes is blind?

Okay, as it stands, I know my shuffle is installed and I would thuink properly since I have been through every trouble shooting task I can find. Also, before ipod was installed, there was no topic in the itunes help section for ipod and as soon as it was, there was one. So it appears all is right in that part. What I can not get is for my ipod to appear on my itunes list of sources or beside the equaizer display button. Also, if I go to preferences, it says there is no ipod connected, despite the fact that there is one on the back of my computer and windows sees it clearly. I have reinstalled a few times, I have used the windows install cleaner as well before the mostrecent install and so on, both programs seem to be installed correctly, despite ipod not appearing.

Hi, emmamcneill55.
Thanks for the question. Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

First, I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod (although it sounds like it might be a problem with your iTunes or the files themselves).

  • I accidentally uninstalled bonjour (part of iTunes) HELP!!!!

    Hi,
I have accidentally unistalled the bonjour part of iTunes and I need to get it back. I have tried system restore but that only brings back the settings and not the actual program. I would prefer not to have to reinstall iTunes because I have heard that sometimes everything may be deleted and i have of 4500 songs so this would be difficult. I have a windows PC. I would really appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

Uninstalling and then reinstalling your iTunes should also get your Bonjour reinstalled.
For the reinstall, use an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
... or you could get it back via your Apple Software Update for Windows.
If you'd prefer not to uninstall iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the Bonjour.msi (or Bonjour64.msi) to do a standalone Bonjour install.

I rented Pacific rim yesterday in my Apple TV and watched part of it and them stopped. Now I am checking in my mac to watch the remaining part with iTunes but I cannot see the movie here.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • Moving Part of iTunes to an External Drive

Hi there, I was wondering if there was any way I could transfer only part of my iTunes libary to an external drive.  Specifically, I want to move the 16GB mobile applications folder for my iPod Touch to clear space on my drive on my MacBook Air, because the only time I will need to use those is when I sync my iPod, and I can just plug in my external drive when I need to do that.  Is there any guide available on how to do this without losing a ton of data?  Thank you!

I'll take a stab at this. If I don't want something to sync with my iPod (including applications) I have to go into the iTunes library and drag the file out. But it won't show up in iTunes when I go to sync again and it will be removed from my iPod, unless it's manually added back into iTunes before syncing.
I regularly take movies and tv shows out. I've taken apps out when I've wanted to back them up elsewhere. The apps that I've removed and added were simple, small and self-contained. I don't know if all apps are like that.
But you need to remove and add items manually. Splitting iTunes between 2 drives is not a feature that iTunes offers (that I'm aware of).
    I hope this helps.

  • Transferring *PART* of iTunes Library w/ an iPod:  Can this be done?

    Hi there:
Before I ask the question, here's the summary of the basic sitaution. I've got iTunes 7.71 on my MacBook Pro and I've got a huge music library (approx 256 GB) that I keep on an external firewire drive. (In case it affects things, the overwhelming majority of stuff in the library consists of MP3 rips from my CD collection-- very little is from the iTunes store).
I also have a 60 GB color display iPod that I use to listen to tunes when I'm at the gym, on planes, etc. Since my whole iTunes library does NOT fit on that, I don't try to sync my whole library to the iPod, but just a few selected playlists (which I keep in a playlist folder called "iPod playlists"), which total about 50 GB of songs.
OK, got that? Now: here's the challenge:
I just started work at a new job and I would really like to be able to transfer the iPod part of my library only to the (Windows) machine I have there... the songs/playlists, etc. (I don't want/need all 256 GB of my library there... and in fact, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be enough room on the machine for it. Also, I don't want to just plug in my iPod or an iPod dock and play from that, as I really like all the additional sorting functionality that iTunes offers, and frankly, I just know I'd be forgetting and leaving my iPod at work half the time if I did that, and be kicking myself later when I had nothing to listen to at the gym..)
So: Can I do this? If so how?
I searched around among the support documents and found very detailed instructions on how one can use an iPod to transfer a WHOLE library from one computer to another (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329). But that's not what I want to do here-- and the size of my main library precludes it anyway. I ONLY want to transfer the part of my library that I put on my iPod to my work machine.
There ought to be an easy way to do this, I think-- but I can't seem to find it. Or is it impossible? Can anyone out there please point me to info on how this can be done? Or just tell me? Thanks!

Thanks for a clear explanation of your situation. You should be able to use your iPod to do this...
There is one issue. If you currently sync the iPod to a Mac, it will be formatted for Mac (Mac OS Extended aka HFS+). Windows PCs cannot read the Mac format. However, Macs can read and write the Windows format (FAT32). So that is part of the solution.
In order to use the iPod as the means of transferring the files, you'll have to connect it to the PC and Restore it in iTunes. This should erase and initialize the iPod, and change the format to Windows. Don't put any songs on it. You should enable disk use and set not to start iTunes when connected.
Now connect it to your Mac. If iTunes does start and asks if you want to sync it to the Mac, say Cancel or No. Quit iTunes. Hopefully, the iPod appears on your Desktop as an external hard drive. Since you did not load any iTunes songs on it, most of the hard drive's space should be available. Create a new folder at the top level to hold your +to be transferred+ files. You can name it Transfer (or whatever you want). Have a Finder window open so that you can see this folder (or see into the folder).
Start iTunes. Select that "iPod playlist" playlist in the sidebar so the main pane in the iTunes window shows the songs you want to transfer. Do a +Select All+ so that all the songs get selected. Drag all the songs from the iTunes window and drop them onto the Transfer folder. iTunes and Finder should work together to make a copy of all the song files onto the iPod. They will be visible, because you are using the iPod as a hard drive.
Connect the iPod to the PC and use Windows Explorer or My Computer to copy the files off the iPod. If you use the default settings in iTunes, namely the preference (on the Advanced tab) to +Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library+, you can actually run iTunes and drag/drop the whole transfer folder icon from the iPod to the open iTunes window. iTunes should copy the files to the iTunes Music library, and organize based on artist and album. You'll be copying the files and adding the songs to the iTunes library at the same time...!
Once you are done, Restore it in iTunes on the Mac to put it back to the proper Mac format.
You can, of course, substitute a regular external hard drive (formatted on the PC as FAT32) and not have to mess with your iPod's formatting. That would make things a bit easier.

  • Is part of iTunes store down? Purchased music not loading

Been trying off and on for a couple of hours to download music off iCloud.  When I click on 'purchased' in iTunes I get the loading spinner but it never finishes.
    Anyone else?
The store itself seems to be okay.  Just not this feature.

I've been having the same issue for the past three or four hours. All other parts of the iTunes store seem to work, but not the purchased items download area.

  • How can I move part of itunes library onto an external hard drive?

I have a small hard drive (160 gb) and I want to keep my music on my internal hard drive so I can take my laptop around and listen to music throughout the day, but if I want to watch a movie I can plug in my external hard drive and launch them from itunes. For example, if the external hard drive was not connected it would just say "unable to find file". Currently I have my entire itunes library on an external hardrive.
Is this possible? Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

  • Part of iTunes on External Hard Drive?

I have searched the discussion forums for an answer to my issue. I have an idea that may work for my issue, but want to ask before doing anything. I can only find one discussion that covers the nature of these questions and no clear answers were given. (That thread can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1567293

Bippity, A couple different ways will work. You can split your music library between your iBook and ext HD. I think Cowboy is suggesting that if you do this, you should make a playlist containing all the songs that will go with you when you disconnect the hard drive. That way, you won't have to rummage for songs among the dozens that will have the little exclamation points next to them.
Yes, when you reconnect your ext HD, you'll want to remember to reset your iTunes Music folder location to it. It's not that big a deal. There's a lot of misunderstanding about this setting. The location setting only affects future actions, like adding new music to your library. It does not affect the location of or iTunes' ability to recognize the songs that already are in your library. I read the post about a guy's library getting all messed up, but you can be sure a lot more water went under the bridge than the person just disconnecting his HD and forgetting to reset the music folder location when he reconnected it.
There are a couple of not-too-old posts about splitting an iTunes library between two hard drives that have relevant instructions. The process takes some care, but it's doable.
Your idea to create a separate user account for the traveling music collection is fine. Just remember, it's a separate library from your regular account; you'll be maintaining two separate libraries. There really are no cross-over efficiencies, like automatically syncing playlists or new additions, available. You mentioned sharing, but sharing doesn't really come into it. Here's what I would do.
    1. Open iTunes in your main account. Change the iTunes Music folder location to a folder on your ext HD. Make sure that Keep iTunes Music folder organized is ON. Now, do a Consolidate Library operation, and wait. This will copy all of your song files to the new ext HD location, keeping all playlists and all metadata intact. Your main account iTunes library no longer cares about the original song files on your iBook HD, and you can delete the original iTunes Music folder to open up disk space.
    2. Create the new user account. Open iTunes. In Preferences:Advanced:General, turn "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding..." OFF. Use Add Library to add the entire music folder on your ext HD to the iTunes library. This just creates entries in your new library. No music files are being copied to your iBook from your ext HD yet.
    3. Start removing songs that you don't want to take with you on the road from the library. You will only be removing entries from the library; this will not delete song files from your ext HD. When you are down to the collection that you want to take with you, you are ready to copy those song files from the ext HD to the iBook HD. (If this seems like somewhat inefficient copying from one computer to another and then back, it can't be helped. Each user account is its own destination.)
    4. Check to see that the iTunes Music folder location is set to the default location in the new user account Music/iTunes folder. Then, run the Consolidate Library command. This will copy the traveling song files to your iBook in the new user account.
Note that the creating the new user account iTunes library this way does not carry any playlists or star ratings (or other special iTunes metadata) over from your original library. If this is a concern, let me know. There is another, more complicated path you can take to set up your new user account that will preserve that data.
