Part of my screen is white with lines?

My computer was fine a couple of days ago. I had not used it for a few days, and when i powered it up just now, a small portion of the screen is white with a few lines. It annoyingly covers a part of my screen and i hate it. I have already tried restarting my laptop many times. Help! Here is a picture of it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w8tzp70rbzp5eap/2014-11-28%2014.28.50.jpg?dl=0

That is going to require a new screen to fix. Looks like maybe it is a dv6000? If not, please give us the full model number of the laptop. Screens now cost under $75 and are fairly easy to fix.

    HELP! HELP! anyone?
Hi guys i have a problem that i have never experienced before, here goes...i have a 30GB 5th generation iPod, i was playing music when i deceided to sync so music, When i connected it to the PC the screen just went *white with lines across the screen* as though the display was damaged. The lines were showing different colours because the logo "DO NOT DISCONNECT" was attempting to show.
I tried restarting & restoring my iPod but that didn't work, when i restarted it the screen was tring to display the "APPLE" Logo after it was booting up, the screen was dark as usual when u restart it but with lines across and when the main screen came up it was white with the lines. Now the next weird thing that happened was when i turned off the iPod and then turned it back on the screen was back to normal, when i turned it off and on again the problem returned, if i leave it off for about *1-2 minutes* and i turn it on its fine but when i turn it off & on the problem returns.
Besides the problem with the lines on the screen the ipod is working ok, can anyone please assist with with the huge problem? i don't know what to do...HELP ME!

Just experienced the same problem yesterday and left with two white lines across the screen and 1/3 from the top of the screen.

  • MBP 15 is running and screen goes white with thin vert lines

Running normally and if I adjust the screen angle it goes white with lines.  Just started happening.  10.5.8 about 4 years old

Based on your post, that seems the most likely problem but it could be something else.  Before any repair is attempted, the problem has to be properly defined.  You may try iFixit.com and see if they can advise you, have a replacement part and attempt to fix it yourself.  This certainly depends upon all the chips falling into the right place with no guarantees of success.  You must also consider the age of the MBP and its worth vs. the cost of the repair.
    Ciao.

  • My screen get white with horizontal lines

    Hello,
I have an Ibook G3; I bought it in october 2002 in France. A fiew days ago, I took it with me to school, and there all of a sudden the whole screen was white, with many horizontal lines. The system was not responding anymore. But after that, it worked fine again. It happens now more often. I don't know if it's worth to repair, since I don't have any warranty anymore. What could the problem be?
    Thanks.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you may be having logic board problems. Enough dual USB G3 iBooks suffered from this problem that Apple began the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program in January of 2004. Check out the FAQ page and if the symptoms look familiar, give Apple a call. If your iBook qualifies, it's a free fix.
If you are past the three-year time limit, ask to speak to Customer Relations and ask them to please make an exception to the three-year limit in your case.
    Good luck!

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

Just updated my Ipad operating system and one of my apps starts but then the screen turns white, with only the advertisment at the top showing

    The normal suggestions.
Close the app,off fully.  Double tap the home screen then touch and hold any of the icons on the task bar until they jiggle, then close them all off by touching the - sign.
Then reboot the pad and try the spp again.  If same issue, delete the app, then reload it.  ( no charge). You may just have a bad copy.  If continues, write to the developer, they may need to do an update.  I have an older version of the same app and it works fine.
Since yours is the ad supported version, they are maing real sure you see the ad.  Is it as simple as you need to click thru the ad to get to the game?

Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • I can't get my computer to boot up.  The screen is white with a file folder and then at ? in the middle

The screen is white with a file folder and then at ? in the middle

Before declaring that the disk is dead (which is a common cause for what you are seeing), try the steps outlined in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
This article also has some troubleshooting steps you can try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1417
If you don't have your original system disks, you can boot into single user mode folloing these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1492
and then following the directions for running the fsck command in the second article I list above.
I would try these things before giving up and assuming that the disk is dead. The flashing question mark indicates that a valid boot disk cannot be found. One cause for this is that the disk has experienced hardware failure. However another cause could be that the system and boot files on that disk are somehow damaged (perhaps from a power surge or an improper shutdown of the computer) and in some cases the above repair steps can restore them to working condition.

So upon startup my MacBook screen is white with some verticals stripes - has it gone bellyul? Or is it retrievable?

It's possible that your display or graphic card is damaged. If these vertical stripes appears during all the time the MacBook is turned on, it's hardware-related, so take your computer to an Apple Store or reseller

Take it in for repair or exchange. Be prepared to write a pretty big check unless you bought AppleCare+.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

  • My ipod screen is white with small vertical lines with one big black line in the middle

My ipod's screen turned white and had a few thin vertical lines and 1 thick black line in the center. the ipod can still play music but i have to randomly press the icons by memory to play music since I cannot figure out where the icons are. It all started after downloading a free app. I was browsing my ipod when the screen turned white. I already restored it to its original settings. I don't remember dropping my ipod. Help!

Since restoring the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod did not solve the problem it appears that you have a hardware problem.  I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
