Partial Audio Mission from Clip

Hi there. Using iMovie '09 (8.0.6) and a Kodak zi8
I have dozens of .mov files from the camera.  Very routine and all of them work just fine importing into iMovie for edits, then exporting.
However, one clip in particular seems to be missing most of it's audio.  The original .mov file is just fine.  But when I import it into iMovie there is only about 5 seconds of audio then it silences out.  This problem is only happening with this one particular clip and there's not sign of a problem with the original.
I've re-imported several times and restarted iMovie.  No luck.
Any clues?

God I'm full of typos today... that headline should read:

  • Why is Organizer "deleting" partial audio on video clips?

I just installed Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements 11 a few weeks ago on my Mac desktop (Intel dual processor, OS X 10.6.8 - Snow Leopard).  I am working with both standard definition and high definition clips from Panasonic camcorders.  It doesn't matter what format -- when imported into the organizer it loses about half of the audio.  The clip retains the video and audio lines, but the audio mysteriously "drops out" about half way through the clip.  This can actually be seen in expert view -- the audio waveforms just disappear and the line goes flat even though the original clip outside of Organizer still has audio.  I tried capturing through both Premiere and through Adobe Bridge which is the downloader I previously used.  It doesn't matter -- when the clip goes into the Organizer, part of the audio disappears.  I've got plenty of space on my hard drive and more than enough ram, so I have no idea why it's doing this.  It's very frustrating because I was so looking forward to being able to tag video clips again.  Photos import beautifully without a hitch.  It's just the video clips with audio that have this problem.  Again, I checked the clips on the camera -- audio is fully intact.  Even after uploading with Adobe Bridge the audio is intact.  But the minute it goes into Organizer, it gets messed up.  Any idea why this is happening?  Please help!  Thanks.

I realize your interest in the Organizer for tagging your files. But from a troubleshooting perspective, I would ask:
If you import any one of these files in question from its hard drive save location into Premiere Elements 11 Mac using Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets and dragging the file to the Timeline Expert view, can the video on V1 be seen and the audio on A1 be heard without issue?
You offer that you are working with standard and HD footage from a Panasonic camera. Could you please tell us the video and audio properties of these files involved as well as their file extension? What is the duration of a typical file that will not play back in the Organizer?
What players do you have installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 11?
Let us start here and then review the situation.
    Thanks.

    Question ???

Sorry, but it is not the right way for my problem.
    What is it ?
I make family's or trip's movies on DVD: each movie has a during time about 1 hour.
All process was very efficiency with iMovie 4 and iDVD4: the produced DVD are OK.
So, I overgraded these softs with iMovie 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.1: then some difficulties occurs.
I have made a great number of tests in order to determine what is the disturbing factor, and in other part, I consult the forum apple discussion with the DVD5's topic " incident when burning DVD".
In spite of their help, iDVD works very badly, but also I do'nt understand why!!
    1/ TEST serie "a":
With a sample of 2mn timeline of iMovie5, footage composed of video, photo, transition, effect, text, kern burn's effect, Still-life ' effects, mixing of original audio from camera and added audio from Cd or iTunes, with chapter markers...and so on, I put this into iDVD5 , and this is able to encode correctly the menu of iDVD, the video from iMovie and the resulting audio from iMovis so. Well, all correct with an imagedisk production.
    2/ Test serie "B":
the same process than "A" but with a sample of 20 mn timeline.
On 8 individal cases, 7 are perfect with an imagedisk production, but one has bring to a crash of iDVD at the beginning of the audio encoding process.
    3/ test serie "C"
Always the same process, but with a sample of 40mn timeline.
On 3 individual cases, it was impossible to do working iDVD correctly !
Always, the crash occurs at the beginning of the audio encoding process, whereas the video encoding process is correct.
I beleive that it is ,may be, a kind of incoherence when iDVD is reading the two audio tracks: the one which is inside the clip, and the other on the audio line.
Because this fact, I search a process to put out the audio track which lies inside each clip of iMovie: with iMovie 4, it was possible and easy, but with iMovie 5, it seem to me that more complicated.
The tools of iMovie5 in order to remove the sound out of clip are:
    - command: extract audio from clip = only the level of sound is the lowest possible , but the track is not eliminated. If I put the extracted audio into the trash and drain it, I have the same result.
    - the small box "invalided track" of vidéo line : same effect.
    - dropping audio to zero: same effect.
In fact, it is impossible to put out this audio track ?????
Now, I think that this track is the responsable of disturbance of iDVD.
Your process, by loading each clip in QT pro, extrating audio, and reloading iMovie is correct, but not easy to work with a long timeline. And, also, it is not possible to fluctuate between the inside audio track and added audio: for exemple, to remove the undesirable noises and to preserve an amical speech of a friend.
Another question: why these crashes of iDVD occurs with a long timeline and not with the short one??? May be is the overall power of my Mac which is too slight??? In that case, I will be obliged to buy a QUAD Apple Power Mac G5 Dual Core 2,5 GHz, as FERRARI video set ????
    So long;

  • Audio disappears from clips after moving them around in between track Premiere

I was working with multiple video clips and movement them around not paying attention to how it was overlapping the audio sometimes. When I finally finished my audio from alot of the clips I cropped have disappeared.
How do I get/link them back?
Videos are Estill there just no sound

I'm guessing you accidentally overlayed some of them while you were working.
A quick way to fix this is to put your playhead (CTI) over a clip you want to add the sound back to, select it, and then press 'f' to match frame back to the original. This will load the original clip with the in and out marks set in your source window and you can drag it down to overlay the clip with the missing audio. This will replace the original clip and audio.

  • Audio off from clip but not source vid

I was hoping someone might know a fix for this:
After I mark in/mark out and create a clip (command+U) and move the clip to one of my bins, if I load that clip in the viewer and pull it to the timeline the audio is 2 seconds delayed. However if I load the source video in the viewer and mark in/ mark out and pull the source reference to the timeline the audio is fine.
This error just popped up out of no where. It is affecting all saved projects and new projects.
    Thanks!

    Howdy Sparkytastic,
It sounds like all of a sudden the audio from your video clips is delayed in all of your projects. I would recommend taking a look at these steps specifically from the following article:
    Final Cut Express: Troubleshooting Basics
Check compatibility and driver versions for third-party devices
If you're using a third-party storage system, input device, or something else, check the support area on the manufacturer's website to be sure that you're using the latest version of the relevant driver or other software for your device, if necessary. To see if your video device has been qualified for use with Final Cut Express, review: Final Cut Express: Camcorder support.
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Express back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Express user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences
Note: The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Express User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
    Final Cut Express
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Express. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application then install Final Cut Express and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Express. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Express.
Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs handy before starting this.
    On Mac OS X v10.5
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Final Cut Express application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the FinalCutExpress.pkg file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Express.
Drag the FinalCutExpress.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutExpress.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Express" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Express installation disc and install Final Cut Express.
When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.
    On Mac OS X v10.6
Open the Applications folder. Drag the Final Cut Express application to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Express installation disc and install FInal Cut Express.
When finished, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu to update your software to the latest version.
For further information on settings or installation, please refer to the Final Cut Express documentation available on your installation discs.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Audio Extract from clip

When I try to extract audio from a clip I get a zero length wave file. I select the clip in the project window, select Clip->Audio Options->Extract Audio. Why does this not work? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

OK, once the export audio command is executed an 'imovie document' is created in the media file. This contains the audio. I drag this to the desktop.
I have opened it in simple sound, and also a program called audion that converts a number of file types to mp3 and is also a mp3 player.
The result is the same for both. It plays OK but most of the audio is missing. Has any body else used this command with complete success?

  • Final cut pro audio missing from clip once i move it from viewer to canvass?

hi i'm new to final cut pro 7, when i play my video in the viewer i can hear the audio loud and clear however when i'm move it to the canvass and play it in the time line the audio is gone? can someone pls help me

Probably best to ask this questio in the FINAL CUT STUDIO forum and not the FCPX forum, BUT -- since you're here...
Make sure that the AUDIO PATCHES are connected to the timeline... those are the pluggy arrow type looking things on the left side of the timeline.  With the clip in the viewer window add it into the timeline.  Audio should come with it.
Or - do you already SEE the audio tracks on the timeline and you just can't hear it?  (if that's the case, try opening the audio mixer and making sure the master volume is up.
    Good luck,

  • Audio Missing From Clip

I posted a similar problem previously, so I'm sorry if I'm wasting anyone's time. I have a clip that when uploaded plays audio for  one minute and cuts out for the next four minutes as if there is no sound in the clip. It is true of the clip saved in the Elements Organizer as well, which was not true in my last post. Playing back the audio on the camcorder there is no problem whatsoever.
    Thank you for any guidance.

    Audio Sub Buffer?
Are you still getting the following error message?
Have you revisited the April 2014 thread to assure that you have read all the posts in it? I ask since you did not follow up there to update us on your progress.
And, please remind us, what version of Premiere Elements that you are using and on what computer operating system it is running.
It is never a waste of time to revisit Premiere Elements problems that remain unresolved.
Let us zero in on the specifics of now
I have a clip that when uploaded plays audio for  one minute and cuts out for the next four minutes as if there is no sound in the clip. It is true of the clip saved in the Elements Organizer as well, which was not true in my last post. Playing back the audio on the camcorder there is no problem whatsoever.
    1. Please clarify "...clip that when uploaded". Do you mean after you import the clip into Premiere Elements and take it to the Timeline that there is no sound in the Timeline playback specifically in the Edit area monitor? If that is the case, are you getting playback of the video and audio when you double click the file in the project media area or on the Timeline and do the Preview Window playback? If this is correct, what happens if you export that Timeline content as is? Does it also have no sound when the export is played back in the appropriate computer player?
    2. Please give the brand/model/settings for the camcorder that records this file. And, please give us a properties readout for this file...maybe starting with the GSpot readout for Audio Name, Codec, Status and Video Name, Codec, Status.

  • Audio Missing from Clip  - Clip is Pink

I've been shooting a while now on a GH2 and importing into Premiere Pro CS6 windows and all has been fine.  Now, some of the clips are showing up with no audio attached to the file and the clip in pink.  Any ideas of why this is happening and how I can avoid it in future?  Thanks

@Jim Simon Hey Jim, I found solution in the forums here.  For some, including me, going to preferences, media, and cleaning media cache database fixes the problem.  I did that, and then pulled the files into the Premiere timeline and the audio is now there.  Thanks for the offer to help, and glad you've shown me depositfiles.com - looks like a great site.  By the way, we had talked recently about audio quality, 24/96, conforming etc. for a project I'm working on.  I ended up taking your advice.  Thanks.  Here's the trailer to this project, it's a feature film we're currently shooting called The Crazy Life.

  • How can I use all tracks from multi-channel source audio with Multicam clips?

I cannot figure this out. Working in Premiere I'm prepping for a 2 camera show, with typically 4 to 6 track dual-system audio recorded by the sound guy. I can sync, and make multicam clips any number of ways–whether sync by timecode, sync by audio, or eyeballing–but whenever I edit using the MC clip, Premiere mixes down all the audio channels into a stereo single track, and I cannot pick and choose which audio track from the original to use. With 2-5 people mic'd on lavs, I need to be able to choose which audio is either cut in or heard at any given shot.
Is there any way to have control in multicam clips over which track of audio gets edited into the timeline, or even: that all tracks of audio get cut in? It's very important for the editors to be able to see waveform (which also disappears for some reason in the mixdown) and pick and choose which audio is heard?
I'm sure this might be a simple fix, but I cannot get my head around it for workflow purposes for my assistant editors. We need to use multicam, but this audio thing is driving all of us crazy. None of us can figure out how to have a multicam clip and use it with control over what audio is cut in.

True, but what I need to be able to do is have my multicam sequence in the source monitor, and cut into my working sequence with either just the audio I need from the sound guy's multi-channel WAV, OR cut in all the sound and from then I can just enable or disable what I need or don't need. But also be able to match back to the Multicam source from my working sequence.
I don't want to have to open the synced sequence, and razor blade the things I need and have to copy and paste into my working sequence in order to have the full spectrum of my multi-channel mono lav WAV files...with their waveforms visible.
Essentially, I want my Multicam clips to load in the source monitor, and the ability to cut them into the working sequence without it mixing down the audio into a single track with no visible waveform–which is what it is doing currently. Can I choose to edit in either ALL of the tracks of the WAV file along with the camera shot I want, or control which audio gets cut in?

The advantage goes to FCP7 if you allow that it can copy and paste filters, audio and video, transformations, and other attributes separately.
You can do that in FCPX too, as all the things you cited are listed separately in the inspector.
Here's a little gotcha. Let's say you've color corrected a few clips and you've applied an effect to one and want to paste it the other clips. You switch off color correction and copy the clip. You select the other clips and paste effects. What do you think happens? The effect is applied, but the color correction is applied as well, only it's switched off as it was in the first clip, so all the color correction on the other clips is lost. Fun, eh?
I'll try to replicate your gotcha - but no, that doesn't sound like fun at all!

  • How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

How can I reinsert the deleted audio from clips in my sequence?

I can tell you a work around to get you going in the meantime, just may be time consuming if you have a lot of clips in the timeline.
double click a clip missing audio
press the go to in point and copy the timecode to notepad
press the go to end point and copy timecode
right click clip, and reveal in project
double click the original in project
paste in timecode and set in & out points again
    drag audio
As I said not the quickest way, but it works, and won't actually take as long as you'd think, 30 secs or so per clip, i just hope you don't have over 100 clips without audio

  • Nested sequence: after a cut, audio repeats from previous clip

Summary: In a nested sequence situation, I'm getting short audio repeats from a clip element just prior to a cut.
    Context:
Premiere Pro CC, latest version at time of writing (7.0.1 (105), under Windows 7 (64-bit).
Structure: I have a sync-sequence (multicam source sequence) consisting of XDCAM-EX (file structure broadly along the lines of AVCHD) and Z1 (plain m2t files).  Derived from / dependent on that is a multicam edit sequence, where I cut between camera angles.  Then that sequence is itself nested in a master sequence (showing selected extracts of the performance).
For reference purposes: Multicam edit sequence consists (among other things) of a rock band's "big finish" followed by some applause.  I made a cut in the audio part (only) of the nested sequence clip, to enable the audio for the applause to be normalized independently of the band performance.  To smooth the join I added a crossfade transition over the cut.  Nicer in principle than using volume envelopes.
When I play the original recording or the multicam sync-sequence or the multicam edit-sequence, all looks and sounds fine.
    Problem:
When the Master sequence is played back (in preview or an exported/encoded clip) I hear the big finish, then applause starts, then after 2 seconds the "big finish" is heard once again, but at lower audio level.
This effect happens wherever I have used the same cut/normalize/crossfade technique in the (nested) multicam edit sequence.  I have also encountered it in previous projects in Premiere CS6.
If I delete the crossfade then the problem disappears...  Doesn't matter what type of audio crossfade is used.
Is this a known problem? and is there a quick workaround? (other than using envelopes instead or copying/patching the audio up to the master level)

Ah so  [Sequence > Render Audio] is not just a "luxury item" to get waveforms to display when nested or to (presumably) to lower CPU load (e.g. when audio effects have been applied).  It's something that I will need to always do from now on...   It's a shame there's a "feature" but great to know of the workaround.
    Thank you very much.

  • Audio missing from Merged Clips

Okay, editing a feature film on Premiere CC.  Just imported a project into my working project that contained the merged clips I created using my video (Red footage) and 2nd source audio.  Files had been all renamed in Premiere to match scene/shot numbers.  Kept only the merged clips, deleted everything else from working project folder, as I had for all the other clips that work perfectly fine.  Edited the new clips last night, working perfectly.
Reopened project this morning to continue working, and now all of the clips have dead tracks as in no audio.  The actual tracks are there, but there's no sound.  I doubled clicked on just the audio track in the clip in the sequence and it's red in my source window.
    How can I fix this?

I'm using the same workflow and reproduced the bug in 7.2.1. The issue is cut & paste of the merged clip.
After merging audio and video clips I would select the newly merged clip in the project bin, hit cut, select a different bin, and hit paste. The merge clip gets moved to the new bin, but also gets corrupted. From now on, the merged clip is missing audio information. When placed on the timeline, audio tracks are colored red and show no wavefrom. Even "Link media" can't properly associate the merged clip with the audio again.
To reproduce the bug, It's not necessary to delete the original clips that were merged, nor is it necessary to save and reload the project. After cutting & pasting the merged clip is damaged immediately.
Easiest workaround for now is to use drag & drop to move the merged clips to a different bin. That does not corrupt the files.
Hopefully a staff member can notice this thread and report the bug to development.

  • Multi cam synced, can't create the new seq from clip

multi cam work flow.  trying to follow through the tutorials and help - but stuck.  I have synced 2 cams with audio, next step says to create new sequence from clip - but when I do all I get is a 1 second sequence (it should have been 15mins.  Tried all the methods listed, now randomly trying select all, targets tracks, etc, ?

    edit -
That helped, back at it - thanks.  New trouble -  although I can now make the multi-cam target sequence of the correct duration, I move into program monitor for editing the multi cam display enabled, the separate sources/cams no longer show in the window...  it's just blank.  I've checked my vid drivers- up to date with manufacturer (not windows) updates.
