Partial Contact list Possible?

I have put my entire contacts directory on my laptop. This is friends, work, family. I am thinking that I only want to sync the more important personal contacts over to my iphone not the entire work related list which is so long.
is this possible through using groups and mobile me?

Mobile Me will sync all contacts over the air, so it is not possible to limit the groups that will sync using Mobile Me at this time.
It is possible to sync select groups to your iPhone when doing a sync via USB with the MacBook. You only need to create the group(s) in Address Book and then select
"selected groups" in the Contacts section of the Info tab for your iPhone.
You can submit a feature request directly to Apple regarding being able to sync groups with Mobile Me here:

Is it possible to keep Contact List and Address Book seperate on iPhone?

I just made the switch today- big time – from Motorola to iPhone, and from PC to iMac, plus a Macbook Air as well for travel. Thanks to iphone and Mac forums I have been able to resolve most newbie issues and have exported my data, files and contacts without problem.
However there is one issue I have not been able to resolve or clarify:
- My old phone contact list has now been transferred my new iPhone, consisting of about 100 phone numbers which I use regularly.
- Address Book in my new iMac contains about 800 contacts including phone numbers, clients, etc, as well as personal bank account numbers, and other confidential data in the “Notes” field, which I need to refer to only occasionally.
But I understand that if I sync my iPhone with my Mac, it will merge my Address Book contacts on Mac, with the phone contacts on my iPhone Contact list, into one list. Is this true? Is it not possible to maintain 2 separate Apps on my iPhone, i.e
1. The iPhone Contact list for frequently used telephone contacts, and
2. The Mac Address Book with more detailed notes and account numbers, which I only need to refer to occasionally?
3. If this is possible, can I configure it so that a password is required each time the Address Book on iPhone is accessed? (I realise I can configure the iphone to require a pin when turned on), but I would like a password to access the Address App because of the confidential data. Previously I had all this data contained on a Palm Zire 72 handheld and its PC Desktop counterpart, where a password was required to access.
From what I’ve read on the forums, it will be very cumbersome to have a phone contact list with 1000 names on it, so I want to keep phone contacts simple with phone numbers only. (I realise I can set up Group folders in Address Book, but this is not what I need). I'm also concerned about having confidential information on my iPhone which can be accessed without a password for that particular application. I intend to get MobileMe but that also does not address the issue of keeping Telephone Contacts seperate from Address Book on iPhone.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Speculating:
if, as already suggested, you use the Groups function to sync only the 100 contact list numbers, then how to get the expanded Address Book?
I've not used it myself, but Bento might be worth looking into--Bento on the Mac pulls your Address Book data (I'm pretty sure) and syncs to Bento iPhone.
I don't recall hearing about any alternate phone books, but since pretty much any program on the Mac can hook into the Address Book, you might look at the more powerful note organizers to see if any of them pull that data?
You might have a problem getting notes added on the phone back into Address Book on the Mac, though.
I actually right now keep my main address book in MS Entourage (similar to Outlook), and only use the Mac Address Book to sync to the iPhone. I could sync Entourage to Address Book, but I don't--haven't sorted out the data yet, and I don't really need all the same numbers in both places.
If that sounds possible, you might look at Mark/Space and Missing Sync for iPhone---something like keeping all 800 contacts in Entourage, and syncing them all, but moving the confidential portion of each contact into Entourage Notes and syncing those via Missing Sync, perhaps might work. (I think you can link a contact to a note in Entourage)

as this is really not a usage scenario they've planned for. They probably don't care, though--doesn't seem all that common.

I have had a similar but worse issue. I sent a text with photo to 6 friends and family members. Their replies went to folks in my contacts list who were not even part of the original string. In fact, one of the replies went to someone whom I had evidently called once but was not in my contact list. This is very strange.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Sadly, no...the BlackBerry Desktop Software is required for extracting information out of the protected device Databases. They are not accessible to Windows Explorer.
What is going on with not being able to install DM? Does something go wrong? Or are you prevented from even trying?

Do you mean forward one number only? If that's what you want then no, you cannot. You can use call forwarding to forward all calls, but not selected contacts only. I'd add that would be a function of the carrier to, as when you activate call forwarding it sets the switch on your account with the carrier, and their hardware handles the call forwarding (i.e. the phone itself has nothing to do with actually forwarding calls or not - it is the carriers equipment that manages that - all the phone can do is tell the carriers system to forward calls, or not).

Go to Settings, iTunes & App Stores, click on the Apple ID. Sign out. Click again and sign in with your Apple ID.

Right, I hope I didn't miss another thread. Nothing appears in my contacts list when I try to save numbers from text messages. The only way to save a contact is to type it manually. But the "save to contacts" option is there, so where is it actually saving all those numbers ?

Thanks for the question. Let’s check to make sure all of your groups are being displayed. It is possible that your new contacts are defaulting to a group that is hidden. With the Contacts application open, do the following to make sure that all groups are checked:
Show or hide a group. Tap Groups, then select the groups you want to see. This button appears only if you have more than one source of contacts.

Old contacts showing up in siri and text search results but not in contacts list.

So what I did was this. I had mobile me, and iphone ocntacts as well as contacts on phone. After updating to IOS5, i had tripples of almost all my contacts (but not all). I converted my mobile me to icloud to discover i couldnt use that email under my new official icloud accoutn as my @me.com adress. So what i did was this. I deleted my old mobile me (now icloud account) compleatly from my phone, my iPad and my computer so there is no trace of it. I then went to my new iCloud account (that i will now use as my only icloud account. going to let the old mobile me one just die so i have 1 central spot for all my stuff). Now all my contacts are gone. So to start fresh and just be done with the confusion, i go to www.icloud.com and manually (by hand) re type in all my contacts. I updated some info and changed some names (like nicknames and stuff like that to real names). Basiclly compleatly organizing my contacts and such to the way i want them. Getting rid of poeple i no longer talk to and such. I did it, it syned and all was well. However now here is hte problem.
If i go to spotlight search, or text search, or search with siri, or any type of search function, all of my old contacts are still there and viewable. All the ones i wanted to get rid of are all still there. However, if i go to contacts and look for thoes old contacts, they are not in the contact list (yes iv checked every "group" and also "all contacts" in groups). What i want is to figure out how to get all of these old contacts compleatly deleated so they dont show up anywere on my phone. Especially with siri its making searches and auto calling more difficult because its finding two contacts sometimes that are the same person and asks me to distinguish instead of jsut calling. CAn anybody help?
Sorry for the wall of text, wanted to make sure to give as much info on the specifics as possible so hopefully i can get this resolved. Is this a bug or something i did wrong? can i fix it or do i just have to wait for an update?

Iv since upgraded to iphone 4S and still happening. Also this does NOT happen on my iPad. Only my iPhone.

Talked to AppleCare for about an hour. After trying many steps: deleting contacts, re downloading from cloud, disabling Siri and re enabling, even Reset all Settings. Nothing worked. Ended up having to restore the phone via Erase All Content and Settings. That of course fixed it.
Not sure what the issue was. I did have a Mobile Me account before the iCloud migration. For some reason, my contacts would appear in Contacts on the phone and in the cloud only once, but when using Siri it would list 2 or 3 duplicate contacts. Also after we deleted all the contacts on the phone, did an iPhone reset (Home and On/off buttons), my contacts list would show empty. Then I would click on Groups and poof all of a sudden duplicate or triplicate contacts would be in the contacts list.

By using 1 of the 2 ID's instead of both, choose one, move everything in the other one to the one you chose and stop using it.

Skype Account contact list and skype name changed

I have been actively using my skype account again lately and one time last week when I signed in, I just cannot. My username and password are correct. And so what I did was to reset my password. I was able to reset my password through my email and when I signed in to Skype, I found out that my skype account was "hacked", I think. My skype name, profile photo and contact list changed into somebody else's account.
I just want to ask what has happened to my account? Why did that happened? The username and contact list that appears to my account, I think, was leggit and not an act of hacking. Could it be possibly that our accounts switched?

Your report reads to me like your account was compromised (hacked). If you still have control of it, sign on to the account dashboard and change your account's registered e-mail address to something else, and then change the password.
Also, as a proactive measure, ensure your computer's software and patches are updated, and run your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware program using the most recent virus signature files available.

How to create a custom Contacts list in SharePoint 2010 from accounts already in AD

Hi folks,
Newbie to SharePoint but not to being an Administrator. Problem is that in my new functions I no longer am an Admin.
I have been asked to post contact lists (Excel) on the SharePoint site. (fairly easy to do)
But I though....we already have these people in AD and the GAL
Why can't I just import what I want only and display that in SharePoint.
I assume this is possible?
I do not have SharePoint designer nor any programming experience....so no coding for me.
Running SharePoint 2010 and Outlook 2010
Can anyone guide me or give me info on how to do this?
I do not want everyone in the AD/GAL. Just some specific names with their contact info

How do I delete a card out of my contact list that was dropped in by Facebook (I assume). It won't let me delete it in -edit -delete card. It has Facebook logo on the card. I have the contact in my contact list that entered. This one appeared.

Unfortunately your other contacts may be lost. Contacts are not saved in iTunes; they are only synced with iTunes to a supported program such as Outlook or mac Address Book. If you don't have these, there are other options for backing up your contacts such as syncing them with iCloud or another service such as Google. Syncing only partially saves contacts in the backup in order to preserve your favorites and recent call lists; it can't be relied on for backing up your entire contact list.

Hi everyone. When I go to type the address of an email I get as far as the first letter and a list of "recent" email addresses pops up, which is handy except for some reason the first one is a combination of two emails address, one I know and one I only vaguely recognise as possibly being a former student who might have been on a mailing list of mine at one time. This combo of emails addresses doesn't appear in my contact list or address book on its own, but since it shows up as I start typing my husband's email, I'm sure there has been a time or two where I've just selected it to autocomplete the address field, and ended up sending something probably embarrassingly personal to not just my husband but this other person as well. That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.
