Partial Missing main Tool Bar icons or headers OSX 10.8.5

OS X Version 10.8.5, MacBook Air 13 inch Mid Oct 2013. Processor  1.3 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory  4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB
My main tool bar shows menu items on the left side OK. i.e. the Apple icon, Safari, File, Edit, View etc or Finder, Edit, View, Go.
But on the right side of the main menu bar, the following icons are missing "Time Machine, BlueTooth, Wifi, Volume" i.e they show as a blank space on the menu bar.
The following are visible "% Battery, Day and Time", but then again "Spot light" icon or shortcut is missing. I must mouse over the grey blank space in order for the drop down menu to appear.
Also in Finder most of the menu headers are grey and blank with no icons or instructions, I again have to mouse over them to find out what they control.
I'm not sure what caused this or how I can "reset" so that the menu headers appear again? I've tried software updates, this doesn't work. It's been like this for several months.

The following entry may indicate a failing harddrive, so doing backups and replacing the harddrive may be in order.

A little bit about drive S.M.A.R.T. status:
"The most basic information that SMART provides is the SMART status. It provides only two values: "threshold not exceeded" and "threshold exceeded". Often these are represented as "drive OK" or "drive fail" respectively. A "threshold exceeded" value is intended to indicate that there is a relatively high probability that the drive will not be able to honor its specification in the future: that is, the drive is "about to fail". The predicted failure may be catastrophic or may be something as subtle as the inability to write to certain sectors, or perhaps slower performance than the manufacturer's declared minimum."

HOW TO REMOVE SHOPING REPORT AND COPMARE TRAVEL RATES FORM MAIN TOOL BAR IN FIR FOX ?
WHEN EVER i AM SEARCHNING IN GOOGLE IN LEFT SIDE SHOPPING REPORT APPIR AUTOMATICALLY.

Yahoo Messenger by default installs a number of extras such as the Yahoo toolbar and a browser plus plugin. There are a couple of places to check to uninstall these. First is the add-ons manager, for details on uninstalling via the add-ons manager see the [[Uninstalling add-ons]] article. If the Yahoo toolbar is not listed there, you can check the Windows control panel. The BrowerPlus plugin will probably also be listed in the control panel.
You should be able to remove it from the Windows control panel.
    * From the Start menu, select Control Panel
    * Open the list of installed programs:
** If in icon view, click Programs and Features
** If in category view, under "Programs", click Uninstall a program
    * In the list of programs select the program, and then click Uninstall.

  • Bug Report Tool Bar Icon Missing

I'm using the latest version of Safari on 10.7.3. I always kept the bug report icon on the tool bar to have a quick way to send a report when necessary. Today when I had an issue I noticed the icon was gone and when I went to the View menu to customize the tool bar I saw that the icon was missing from there as well. I know that Report Bugs To Apple is under the Sfari menu and I used that but I'm wondering why the icon was removed from this version.

Yes, it seems to be gone.
    As for why ...
I don't see how anybody here could know what the developers were thinking.

  • Tool Bar icons missing, cannot add more tools

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 with Windows 7. I have a very limited tool bar on the left side of the screen. It has three tools, a zoom icon, a hand tool, and a color picker icon. They reside in a gray bar that spans the left side of my screen. There is a small white triangle above them that resets tools but doesn't seem to do anything. Above that is the file menu. I wish to add more tools to this bar but cannot find a way to do it. I especially want the burn and dodge tool. Presently I have to go to the guided menu, click on perfect portrait, and scroll down to the tool each and every time that I use it. Very tedious. Hope someone can help.

    Hi,
It sounds as though you are in Guided edit mode - have you tried switching to full edit?
    Hope that helps

  • Image Adjust icon missing from tool bar

I've got the latest Keynote running on my Macbook, but it seems to be missing the Image Adjust icon, the one that sits right next to Inspector icon on my desktop G5 running the exact same version of the program.
I can get to image adjust through the menu bar going to View>Show Adjust Image, but on my desktop computer, there is an icon right in the Keynote toolbar.
Can't for the life of me determine why it doesn't present itself on my laptop. Any ideas? Many thanks, Bob Krist

Try right clicking on the toolbar and choose Costumize Toolbar (or via the View menu (it should be the last option in the View menu) then you will see a array of icons which can be placed on the toolbar as you see fit.
and maybe the window is to narrow to be able to display the icon and it falls of at the end, there then should be an '>>' icon, which when pressed should show all the icons that dont fit.

  • Missing preferences, tool bars, menu items after receiving CS3 file while I have CS2

    I have Indesign CS2. I rec'd a CS3 file not knowing it was CS3. A message appeared as follows:
Cannot Open. Please upgrade your plugins to the latest versions, or upgrade to the latest edition of Indesign.
I went into HELP, Configure plugins. Chose "all" and "required" plugins. I then clicked ok and it said "All plugins available when you restart application" and it still wouldn't open. Then I was sent an exchange version of the same file and it still wouldn't open. I received this message:
Cannot open. InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing or the file may be open in another application.
After this I wasn't able to get my CS2 screen back the way it was before. There's no introduction when I open the program, my tool bars aren't present, and the menu items aren't as extensive as they were before.
It was then suggested I reinstall Cs2. I logged in under the administrator. CS2 was different than the way I had it before but the tool bars were present. I then logged in under my name and there are still problems;no tool bars, missing menu items, no intro, etc.
    I then tried rebuilding my preferences using these instructions;
The fastest way to do this for InDesign CS2 (and any CS2 program) is to quit the program, then hold down Command-Option-Shift-Control immediately after starting it up again, and keep those keys held down. (On Windows, hold down Control-Alt-Shift.)
If you mashed on those keys quickly enough, youll get an alert when the splash screen appears offering to Delete InDesign Preferences File?. Click Yes, but dont release the modifier keys while you do so, because youre going to get a second alert to which you should also click Yes.
Now you can release the keys and InDesign will complete the boot-up process with fresh, clean Preferences.
Nothing happened so my program is still missing preferences, menu items and toolbars. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Operating System Windows XP Professional
    Dell Precision 360

First, you need to realize that resetting preferences will put them back to ground zero, not the way they were the last time you were happy.
You can try the key combination again and see if you are any faster (we're talking near instantaneous) or you can open your user profile, show hidden files and folders and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 4.0 and rename the two files InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData.
In your case, a better first option, I think, would be to try System Restore which you'll find in System Tools under the Programs > Accessories heading on the start menu. Go back to the first restore point before you tried to open the file, if you can.
In any case, for you to open a CS3 .inx file you will need to be fully patched the the last CS2 update, and you should expect to see some text reflow issues, as well as missing any CS3 features that the author used which aren't supported in CS2.

  • Changing size of tool bars & icons in Photoshop Elements 10

Was using Photoshop Elements 10 on my windows vista with no problems. Just got a new computer with Windows 7 and moved Elements 10 with no installation error messages.
Just tried to edit some pictures and all the tool bars and icons are so tiny - extremely hard to read. Tried adjusting the text size to 150% in control panel but it did not change anything in Elements.
Is there a setting that can be readjusted - do I need to uninstall and reinstall with some setting tweaks??
    Please help!!!!

You need to use the default, 100% screen font size in Windows to prevent problems like tool cursors and menu bars not displaying correctly.
There's no way to adjust PSE's font size or icon size.

Move the mouse pointer to the screen and hold it there for few seconds.
Menubar  / Toolbar will drop down.
Click the blue double arrow icon at top right end of the bar.
Window should exit Full Screen mode.

  • Tool bar icon

When viewing mail in my inbox I have the archive icon in the toolbar instead of the trash icon. The trash icon is in the tool bar in sent , draft view. How do I get the trash icon back on the tool bar in the inbox.

In that case you should be able to disable archiving via Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Gmail Account > Archive Messages (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207)

  • Elements 11 Organizer display missing lower tool bar

When opening Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer on my Mac computer the lower toolbar feature is not displayed. How do I recover this important feature?
Message title was edited by: Brett N

There isn't an option to hide or disable the lower tool bar. Most likely it is simply off screen due to the size of the window. Try clicking the Green plus button in the upper left to resize the application window to the size of the screen. Additionally, you can try increasing your screen resolution to see if you can make it larger than the application windows.

  • Add color to mail tool bar icons?

    Howdy
I just updated to Lion. Is there a way to add color to the icons used in Mail? It looks pretty blah as it is.
    Thanks

Put your curser arrow in the right top corner and the top menu bar should pop up.  Use the double headed blue arrow in the right top corner to shrink the screen.

  • Where is Analysis within CS5.1 - I used this on CS4 but when I open CS5.1 the main tool bar at the top of my screen does not have Analysis?

I have changed to a Mac and am using CS5.1 but cannot locate the Analysis tool which was on CS4 - when I look up Adobe .TV for CS5 the videos show this tool in the main top menu but it is not present on my system?  Where can I locate this as I would like to set up a custom scale for measuring some forensic details I am working on
