Partial synch problem of my m515 to old Mac desktop 1.0
problem synching only my datebook on my m515(running 4.1.2) to an old mac running desktop 1. No problem synching to do, memo, and address book. Problem started when I switched from my older IIIxe to the m515. Please don't ask me why I am using my old Mac for this purpose.

I should add that when I synch the datebook, it starts fine, goes a few seconds apparently synching, then causes the synching screen to dissapear, the desktop freezes, and the handheld gives the connection lost error message. I then must force quit the palm desktop program. Thanks

Problems : Putting an icon on a Mac desktop

I have a problem with some JNLP and Mac OS X.
I have a JNLP file working fine on Windows NT (2000, XP). The software deploys, an icon is set on the desktop and a link is put in the start menu. When it comes to mac, the system deploys, and the Jnlp file is saved on the desktop. Everything is fine, appart from the point that I can't manage to put a link on the desktop to launch the application.
Also, I want my application to be launched at the startup of the OS. I more or less managed under windows by putting a link in the startup menu. But is there any other solution? And any ways to get it to work on Mac OS X?

I have lost my password and the DVD is not working on my old mac desktop G4 500mhz. I have tried use the boot up disk to change the admin password. But the DVD did not work. ( I did not touch this machine for years.) But i need retreive something , so I have tried the shell script in the terminal
1. fsck-y and the mount-uw to try to change and find the service directory's plist to change the password. But after I get the mount -uw, it show illegal option message.
What I can do now to solve this problem? in shell script or any other way?

A DVD drive that is not working after many years not used:
most probably dust on the little laser lens.
Take the drive out and if you can reach this lens: clean it with pure alcohol on Q-Tip.
Many people throw away cd or dvd players all the time because they stopped working, and very often it can easily be fixed by cleaning this lens.
I used to have a G5, where I couldn't access that lens. It was very sensitive to dust.
I have fixed it several times with compressed air. One time I didn't have canned air, but a bikepump did the trick.
If you have another mac, I'd try to access the G4 internal disk with firewire target disk mode.

How to get old data from old mac without knowing password
Hi. We still have data and pix on an old mac desktop g3. When we bought our new desktop last? year apple wouldnt transfer data for us. We are just getting around to it now, but when i turn old one on it asks for password which i cannot recall and hint doesnt help us. Is there a way to either retrieve this password remotely or simply "get in" without it? There are very few files, if any that i want - just thousands of pictures that i do! Appreciate any help or advice!,,,fyi currently have mac osx 10.7.5 and old g3 is an antique:) mac OS x 10.2.8
If you have the the Mac OS X installation disc used to install 10.2.x, there may be a way to reset the password. NOTE: I don't recall if 10.2 had it, and there are situations where this method does not work.
Insert the disc in the optical drive, and start up with the C key held down. This should force startup from the optical drive. When you get to the Installer screen, go up to the menu bar. For 10.2, I think the command to reset password (if it's there) is under the Installer menu, but look around the other menus. I believe this reset pasword command only works if the user account password you are trying to reset is for the original primary user account set up on the Mac. -
How do I get my pictures from my old mac to my new one using CDs?
I had an old mac desktop that I had all my pictures on, so when I got the newest desktop i downloaded all my pictures on to CDs but my new mac wont open the pictures up in iphoto. I think it's because iphoto has bean updated alot since my old mac. So when I put it in an old mac laptop it worked. and I could download my pictures to iphoto. But I really need them on my desktop and im not going to spend days and days emailing picture by picture to my desktop (because there is a lot of pictures) someone please help me!

What version of iPHoto did you have? What version now? how did you make the CDs (share burn? export? what?) How are you trying to "open" the pictures? Exactly what happens? what error messages? anything else that might help?

PC suite 6.0 (from CD) attempted download of 6.81 from website.
I've been having some synch problems. Occasionally I found that after a synch all my contacts would appear twice in Outlook. Happened again last night. I deleted all the repetitions in Outlook & deleted all the contacts on the phone thinking to start afresh. Disaster. When I synchronised again, all that appeared on the phone was a random selection of contacts - about 20 - rather than all the 400 in Outlook.
So... I deleted PC suite & decided to reinstall from the CD. I got this error message. "The synchroniser is unable to load the interface() required to support sychnonising with Outlook 2." Deleted again & tried downloading 6.81 from the website. Got this error message. "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt & cannot be used." When I tried ignoring that I got "Internet error 2350" & could proceed no further.
The data1.cab file seems to be something to do with Adobe Acrobat reader so I tried re-installing that - but same error messages. I also get the same error message if I try to download the latest version as an upgrade to the old version.
Can anyone out there help?

I'm waiting on delivery of my new 80GB 5th generation iPod to replace the old one (60 GB iPod) that died.
I have heard about synching problems that happen when more than one iPod are connected to a single account. What precautions can I take to get all the music and audio books from one iPod to another?

Not sure where you heard this but many people use multiple iPod with a single computer. As you can see from this guide, it's well supported: How to use multiple iPods with one computer

You just need to connect your new iPod. If the songs etc. you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. Follow the onscreen instructions to register and name your iPod, when that is done you'll be asked if you want it to update automatically from iTunes, choose yes if you do. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like -

AyeshaOK ..... Did you sign into your new ID in Settings>iTunes and App Stores>Apple ID. Tap your old ID and sign out and then sign in with the new ID.

Not if you first do a sync and have iTunes make a backup. However, if your only copy of the iTunes data is in the Touch, then you need to first copy the data to a new iTunes Library using third-party software such as Phone To Mac.

I have an old Mac G5 with OSX 10.5.8
After a crash of my HD, I reinstalled the CS3.
At the time of recording I get a window with the message "COMPLETED REGISTRATION" and under "There was a problem sending the informasioni via internet" and still under three choices to "send back" and "records in a second time "or" never record "and I continue to choose the latter option.
Another problem is that in Bridge (version 2.0.0.975) I can no longer see thumbnails of RAW files from my Canon 40D that I saw before.
Should I upgrade ACR? which is the latest version supported on my Mac?

Did you migrate over the data from your old computer? If so, there's probably something you brought over that knows it's not on the same hardware as before. In that case you need to run this:

and then go around and manually remove all the bits and bobs, not just from applications but also from hard drive>library>application support>adobe and from your username>library>preferences. Spotlight will not help you. You have to go looking on your own.
