Particles (flame) bug? Export render differs from preview render.
I've added a particle emitter (Pyro -> Flame) to my movie. It all looks fine in the Preview window. But when I render (export) the final movie the flame comes out differently. Some frames contain large grey parts that seem to appear out of nowhere. Here some frames from my video. The upper part is the view in Motion's Preview window, the lower part is how it is rendered.
I've tried exporting to several output formats, including the lossless ProRes formats. I also used several rendering settings, both in the Export dialog and the upper-right Preview window settings menu. Nothing solves this problem.
Does anybody know how to fix this? Motion isn't very usable this way. I'm using Motion 5.2 on Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MBP 13 Retina, late 2013.
Hello all and thanks for the tips. I really appreciate your help. After having it work sometimes and sometimes not, I definitely checked most everything you all mentioned. I really thought the answer shouuld have been in the areas you all pointed to... but I got lucky and found it somewhere else... maybe this was a newbie thing, but I'm willing to swallow my pride and cough it up...
My file was created from following Creative Cow's "reflection" tutorial step by step... in the tutorial, you "pre-compose" your text layer and create another layer below it. This other layer becomes your reflection.
Here's what was happening:
When I export to .swf, if I am viewing the pre-composed layers in the "comp" viewing area, I will get the red hue around stuff during the render, but not in the preview. If I switch from the pre-composed layers, back to the main layers, and view the main "comp" at the highest level and then render, I get a perfect render... make sense? perhaps it was human error... I just felt that the render would always look like what you are previewing. Make sure you render from the main layers and not while still looking at a pre-composed layer...
thanks again all!

Colors In Exported Video Different From Preview In Premiere
I have a short video I put together in Premiere that contains some image overlays I created in Photoshop. Everything looks fine in Premiere, but when I export it, the overall video has a warmer, yellow-ish/orange-ish color cast to it. My Sequence settings are HDV 720P and I am exporting the video as Windows Media HD720P. Is there anything simple I can do to get the colors to match up properly? I'm only intending to publish the video to Youtube.
Interesting, you're right, I opened it in VLC and the colors look fine. Strange that I'm getting an odd color cast in Windows Media Player only - thanks everyone!

Colours in result vastly different from preview
I've just installed the latest Photoshop CC. Whenever I go to Image → Adjustments → Anything, the result turns out to be completely different from what I see in the preview. For example, when I use Hue to colourize a picture:
If I do the same using the corresponding adjustments layer, I get the same result as in the preview on the screen, but as soon as I save the picture to a non-psd format, the colours are off again.
It is impossible to work like that. Do you have any idea why this happens? I should note that I work in the standard RGB mode, and the "Proof Colors" option is disabled (but if I enable it, the results are the same).Well, I construed "preview" to stand for Apple's Preview Application. Not my bad this time, but yours.
Next time, please provide a lot more details when you post:

Exported JPEG differs from Lightroom image
Hi all....
When I export my photos from lightroom as JPG, the colors of the photo are dramatically changed. (image looks much colder)
As first, I thought I may be a problem wiht the colour space, but I have try changing them without any success...
Any idea??
Thanks in advance...Sorry that I didn't answer sooner. I must have missed this thread and your questions.
I haven't started calibrating my monitor yet (I've left it at sRGB for right now), but what I really want is for what I see in Lightroom to be the same as what I (and others) see on Flickr.
The only way to get other people to see close to the same thing as you see in Lightroom is to calibrate and profile your own monitor and export to sRGB. If you have a good monitor yourself, with a gamut close to sRGB, you will get very close correspondence between Lightroom and unmanaged browsers. If your monitor is one of the wide gamut deals or a crappy laptop with a very small gamut, your display in the unmanaged browser will always be completely wrong, even if you use sRGB. Nothing you can do about that. On such displays you basically have to use a managed browser. The Lightroom display will ALWAYS correspond to your browser if the browser is color managed and you correctly calibrated the screen. Color managed browsers include Safari, Firefox (with some problems) and development versions of Chrome.
because my monitors are set to sRGB
You don't want to do that. It is an OK test for a corrupt monitor profile, but it guarantees incorrect color. LR and your unmanaged browser might look the same, but they are both wrong. Calibrate and profile.
If I properly calibrate my monitor, the colors coming out of Lightroom when exporting to sRGB should still be the same as what I see while working in Lightroom, right, or am I better off with sRGB color profiles so that they're always exactly the same?
As I explain above, the colors when you calibrate and export to sRGB will look almost the same in unmanaged browsers except when you have a display with a gamut very different from sRGB. The problem is that under no realistic circumstance can a unmanaged browser show you correct color. -
Design view different from preview - is muse still in beta testing
I have limited experience with coding html so when Adobe released Muse, I was excited. However, I'm wondering if they released it too soon and/or if it is still in beta testing - which I don't mind but would like to know what I'm dealing with. It seems to have a lot of quirks - mainly that the design view is sometimes different from the preveiw or browser view. I spent over an hour yesterday trying to get text boxes to line up. If there is an hidden element affecting the text boxes, I don't see it. I have moved everything off the page and >selected all
and nothing shows up.
Other issues:
Sometimes paragraph styles do not apply - even though in design view it looks like they do.
Can't find a way to center text vetically in a text box other than adjusting the leading?
Can't find a way to organize assets into folders?
When an object is selected on a page, is there a way to indicate that that is the object in the assests panel?
Sometimes the padding options are not available for no apparent reason.
Thanks to the Adobe staff for being responsive as these issues are discovered. One staff member in particular was very helpful as I was trying to get hyperlinks to work right. But I am STILL having a problem. The text box and the text itself have the hyperlink style applied but as you can see on the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson Trio hyperlinks - the style did not take even though they are both hyperlinks that point to the right URL. -- geezermusicclub is the correct link for Dardanelle - It's difficult to see in the pic, but the Dardanelle and Chad Lawson text color is black but the hyperlink text style is brown.
Persoanlly, I feel Adobe should lower the subcription price while all these kinks are being worked out in Muse. In a way, subscribers are **** a LOT of beta testing for Adobe. Not only are we not being compensated for that, we are having to pay for an application that has too many wrinkles.Murray and David: it worked! It is a rare and joyous experience to have a straightforward solution to the sorts of problems I come up with (including other realms). But I have to say that with HTML and CSS (and hence with Dreamweaver), solutions to difficulties have seemed within easier reach than in other parts of the computer world.
By the way, I wanted to choose "correct answer" for both your posts, but after making the first click it was no longer available for the remaining post--so I typed "helpful" even though that one was correct too.
Thanks again.

AE - Render differs from preview (get red outline and red layer)
Please excuse a newbie... I'm using AE and all looks good with the text I create.. I add a pre-set animation and then render to swf file. Sometimes all goes well, but most of the time I get a red hue over the graphics or the text gets an outline. See examples here...
This swf file rendered perfect.. all silver text and good reflection:
http://www.denmasterstudios.com/vision.html
This swf file (from the same AE document, I only changed the text) rendered with a red outline and red hue over the reflection:
http://www.denmasterstudios.com/hardware.html
It is kind of hard to explain, hence the examples. Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I'm spending too much time trying to diagnose.Hello all and thanks for the tips. Exported swf formatting differs from preview mode
When I view a model in preview mode, everything looks fine with the formatting. However, after exporting the file (or viewing the export preview), some of the formatting is incorrect - such as axes labels and titles being truncated or moved from their original position, as well as grid sizes changing so that what I have aligned no longer is aligned.
I can make formatting adjustments in the model so that it appears more properly in the exported swf file, basically correcting for these differences. However, this is obviously not ideal, and I have not been able to identify any patterns in these discrepancies (sometimes it looks fine, other time not). I appreciate any suggestions!Hi,
I am facing the same issue too. The whole formatting goes off once exported to ppt. The fonts reduce to such an extent that I cannot see the fonts. If I drag the swf component to full screen in ppt, the labels, come over the axes.
Please let me know how to correct it. -
Exported file differs from that created in workspace
Hi,
I have created a 5 minute movie which is bookended by two different After Effects animations.
When I preview the movie in CS4, and even in Media Encoder, it plays perfectly. However, the exported file (I have tried WMV and AVI) puts the introductory After Effects animation at the end of the movie as well, in place of the one which it is supposed to end with!
I basically have my introcuctory animation both at the beginning and at the end, despite the fact that it doesn't appear this way in After Effects, Premiere CS4 or Media Encoder.
Any clues?!
Many thanksAre the AE Comps Dynamically Linked, or did your Export from AE, then Import them into PrPro?
Good luck,

Jpeg export quality differing from separate macs
I have noticed a discrepancy in the quality of jpeg images exported from iPhoto 9 on different Mac models...
I recently bought an estarling wireless photo frame. With it you can email the pictures to a gmail account and the frame will download them. As I was uploading photos from different Macs I noticed a difference in quality of the images on the frame. To test this I followed the exact same procedure from four different Mac models all with iPhoto 9 and 10.6.4: MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, iMac Core Duo (older mac), MacBook Core 2 Duo, and a MacMini Core 2 Duo. The procedure I followed was to import photos from my Camera to an iPhoto Library. Crop them at a 5x3 aspect ratio. Choose a photo and File > Export. Choose JPEG, Maximum Quality, Custom Size dimension of 800px and export them to the desktop. I then send them to the frame. Comparing identical photos, what I noticed is that the photos from the MacBook Pro and the MacMini are very noticeably more crisp and clean looking on the frame, while the photos from the MacBook and iMac are much more pixelated.
Has anyone else noticed anything similar? Could this be related to hardware? Please let me know if I can provide any further information that would be helpful. Thanks.I would first compare them after export and before emailing, to remove the possibility that the discrepancy is introduced by the uploading/downloading process.

I received your email with this same question so I'll just respond here. Our internet-facing hosted site apex.oracle.com allows you to request a workspace and, after the request is approved and the workspace provisioned, to develop applications there. If you already have an application that you need some help with, you can import/install it into your workspace on apex.oracle.com. This makes it easy to demonstrate problems to others who might be able to help.
Sometimes it will be necessary for you to create developer accounts in your workspace in order for others to use your Application Builder. You can post usernames/passwords here or you can convey those privately to those offering their services. In either case, you'd want to remove or disable those accounts as soon as the problem is resolved. For problems that I ask to see demonstrated on apex.oracle.com, it is not necessary for you to create an account for me. I can do that as our group runs the site. I just need to know your workspace name and application ID.

Is an ID5 exported PDF different from a Distiller PDF?
Am doing a book cover for a client publishing thru an on-demand press. Press specified the following:
"Acrobat Distiller is the ONLY acceptable PDF software (Adobe Library and other PDF programs are not acceptable). . . [MS Word info removed] . . . For files created in other programs (such as InDesign, PhotoShop, Publisher, Quark, etc.), the PDF/x-1a:2001 setting should be used."
I don't own Distiller/Acrobat, and haven't for years. Since ID5 offers PDF/X-1a:2001 as an export setting, I used it. Blown up on screen, PDF looked perfect.
Company responded with this: "The PDF was in Adobe Library. I was able to rePDF to Adobe Distiller"
4 questions:
is there a difference in output?
Are they trying to pad my client's bill?
Will the 30 day Acrobat trial produce a usable PDF/x-1a:2001?
Is it even a good idea to resave a ID PDF/x-1a:2001 a second time as a Distiller PDF/x-1a:2001?
Thanks, SusanDLuddites.
I'd use the PDF X/1-a and send it and I'd let the client know that their choice of printers is about 10 years or so behind the times.

Can I use applescript to export PDF search results from "preview"?
My question is about "Preview". I have a very large PDF document that I am using preview to view. After doing a search for a specific word, preview has returned 1200 results. The results panel shows the page number the result is found on and the line of text on which the searched-for-word is found.
My question is this: Is there a way to export this information from preview to something like an excel file? The end result would look like a table with two columns. One with the page numbers and one with the line of text in which the word appears.
Is this something that can be done with applescript? I don't know if the system even stores that kind of information... /sigh. Any help is appreciated.Using Preview.app, I have done a search for the word “AppleScript” in the PDF version of the AppleScript Language Guide. Then, I have used the following script to retrieve the information displayed in the results panel.
tell application "Preview" to activate
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Preview"
return value of text field 1 of rows of outline 1 of scroll area 2 of splitter group 1 of window 1
end tell

Ciao,
I have a problem... maybe this can be a stupid question but anyway.. I would like to know the reason why when I open a raw image in lightroom, for a second I see the right colors/tone/contrast that i see when i look at the same images on my camera and soon after the word "Loading" I see the raw files with different colors.
Why this happens???
Before "Loading" and --> after
Thank you so muchHey Giuseppe
I have a similar problem but the cause may be different from yours. I shoot a Canon 6D and as far as I know no one with the 5D MKIII has my issue, but maybe you could look into it.
Canon's Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CC, as well as Lightroom CC, is automatically down converting my CR2 RAW files from 14 bit color depth to 8 bit color depth. This is screwing up my colors, contrast, gradients, etc quite a bit when trying to process RAW files in Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC.
You can read my thread here:
Banding due to automatic downconverting of RAW files to 8 bit
You might want to check and see if your RAW files are actually being processed in 16 bit color depth. There is a possibility that they are being down converted automatically for some reason.
The bit depth in Lightroom for RAW files is supposed to be 16 bit but when opening my files it just converts it down.
Try downloading Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4
Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EOS 5D Mark III
Use that software to process a RAW photo and convert to a 16 bit TIFF. I know this software truly gives you a 16 bit depth image. Then compare the result side to side with what you're seeing in Lightroom.
If you are having this issue, I have not yet found a way to process RAW CR2 files in ACR or Lightroom and maintain 16 bit depth.
If you are batch processing to JPEGs it probably doesn't matter, but my issue is that it is down converting BEFORE exporting and thus any edits I do become much more destructive on my 8 bit image than they would if I was editing a 16 bit image. I have to be able to keep things in 16 bit up until the point they go to the printer.
Sorry, this may not help you at all, it looks like there could just be a difference in White Balance, but I figured I'd throw my two cents out there and maybe you could see if this is actually what is happening for you, and hopefully eventually Adobe could potentially fix this bug. -
Can not print a pdf from preview. It crashes every time from 2 different printers.
I can not print a pdf from preview. I have tried at two separate locations with two different printers.
I am having the same kind of problem when trying to print any kind of pdf: big, small, text only, with pictures. I dont know how it happend. Now it is happening in both my imac and macbook pro both runing the latest Lion MacOS with all updates installed. It is weird one moment my machine was printing ok then it stopped working. I have updated the printer software I have a canon image class mf4350. Also the curious thing is that I can print the same pdf document from adobe acrobat pro on the same computers with out any kind of problems.
Here is the latest crash report

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?
Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.
Regards
TD
