Particles of dust under the glass of multi-touch screen

Dear Sir,
I bought iPhone 3G in HK yesterday. After I opened the box and activated my iPhone, I have found 2 dark spots on the middle of screen. At first, I thought they are dead pixels. However, after taking a look carefully, I think they are particle of dust under the glass of touch screen. How come? from manufacturer process? because I just open it from the box.
Is there any warranty from Apple cover this problem?
What is the method you may help me?
Change the new machine or fix it?
Is there anything I can do by myself?

No sir. There is nothing that you can do your best bet is to bring it back to your provider, or if there is a apple store over there bring it back to them. I know that apple will exchange your unit for this issue. It is from the manufacturer process it seems that they do not have a dust free environment. So just exchange it.

  • New iPad..dust under the glass screen ?????

After buying the new iPad 32GB 4G from your branch here in Saudi Arabia, I was shocked to discover some dust under the glass screen. When I returned to the showroom, they refused to replace it and claimed that it is normal for all iPad products to leak in dust and is not a damage in the unit. I believe it is not acceptable at all for a SAR 3000+ devise to allow dust to come into its internal chipsets (with all the damage this might cause). I am sending this as a complaint against the local reseller with request of immediate replacement.
    Please advise

OK. Apple is not reading any of these posts for hardware issues. Nobody here works for Apple. We are other users just like you.
I am advising you to contact Apple - however you can - whereever you live - there is nothing anyone here can do to help you.

MTS and Beeline provide all service for the iPhone in Russia. Take your phone to them and see. They will have to evaluate it.

  • Dust under the glass screen

Hi, I have had my iPhone 4 since Friday 18th February, yesterday the screen protector that the phone came with peeled off so i took it off and wiped it with a microfibre cloth. When I was looking at the screen I noticed a white speck under the screen when the screen was off. I then turned it on and viewed it and the speck is black. could this be dust or a dead pixel? I would like to get it replaced but I have no local apple store only a Solutions Inc premium apple reseller. Also I had ordered the phone from the online uk apple store.

The iPhone 3G & 3GS can have dust get under the screen, as the LCD screen is screwed to a frame and then that frame has the glass and digitizer glued to it. There is a small amount of space between the screen and the glass so dust can work its way in there. If the iPhone 3G/3GS is under warranty you can call Apple to see if they can either clean it or replace the screen. If the iPhone 3G/3GS is out of warranty you can still call them but there is less of a chance it will be covered.
For the iPhone 4 & original iPhone, the LCD screen is fused to the digitizer/glass assembly. This way dust can not get in there, but at the same time you are unable to replace just the glass if there is damage to the glass, which makes for a more expensive repair. If there is dust some how between the LCD and glass (which are glued together) then contact apple as the iPhone 4 is still under warranty. But if there is dust there it would have had to of been there since the iPHone 4 was new.
And no the iOS4.3 update would not add dust...

  • Did any buy a 4th generation iPad with speck(s) of dust under the screen?

Purchased my first iPad at a local apple store on launch day, noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Had it exchanged and then found another speck of dust under the screen once again. Went back and wanted another exchange, apple store employees were nice enough to allow me to open two additional iPad. I did a thorough check of each and noticed dust under the screen on both. Wasn't allowed to open anymore iPads so, I was given the option to exchange mine or return it. I decided to keep mine as there was only one speck of dust under the screen. Has this happened to anyone so far?

I wanted to upgrade to the iPad 4th generation as well.  I have been through four (4) of them.  ALL FOUR (4) had readily visible dust under the glass.  Three were from the Apple store here in Santa Barbara, and one was from the Apple store in Santa Monica.....so not all from the exact same shipment, although possible all came from the same batch at the factory.
There is fine white dust all offer the interior packaging materials when you open these up....which is not a problem....but then there is always a speck or two of white dust UNDER the glass.  This is totally unacceptable for a high-end product that costs $700+ from accompany that goes on and on about how exceptionally high their quality control standards are.
The Apple store staff have been fantastic to deal with throughout this.  It is proof Apple stands behind their products and claims of high quality.  However, the fact that four out of four brand new iPads had the same defect (immediately seen by two techs at the Apple Store in every case) indicates the standards are sliding...at least at the factory.
The fact that I received four out of four iPads with this defect doesn't mean I am unlucky....it likely indicates that thousands of these shipped to North America...or at least California....have this defect.  I just noticed it.
And anyone who says "that's just how all iPads are" is wrong.  I am typing this post on my iPad Generation 3 that came out of the box with no dust under the glass.
This is a major quality control issue with the new iPad 4 and Apple needs to address it.

  • X6 dust under the screen

is that normal to get a bit of dust under the glass screen in nokia x6?

    Hi
It depends the way u use the phone.
if u use always witha protected case, and take the device out when ever necessary only these type of happenings will get minimised.
if u use without cover and always exposed, this type of things will happen frequently.
so this is not a problem of the X6 device.
however u can take it to "nokia care" and get the dust removed by them.
but remember, when u dismantle X6 always the bottom and top panels has to be replaced. once removed the same cannot be refixed.
so u may have to bear the cost .
    cheers

  • Dust under iPod-glass, case for the guarantee?

    Hello, dear forum users,
I have a little problem with my iPod Video 30GB 5.5G. Three weeks ago, I discovered some dust on the display, I thought it was just some dust on it but it was under the glass.
I really have no idea, how the dust could get there..
So I would like to know if this is a case for the guarantee.
    Thanks

Call Apple, and discuss the issue.

  • Will I get a replacement for dust under the screen?...

    Hey everyone!
I've had an iPhone since the 3G came out and I've never had any problems with dust. My 3G got replaced by 02 insurance about 5 months ago and I got a new 3GS 16GB. Since then I noticed the odd little bit of dust appearing under the screen. Most of the time I couldn't see it so I didn't really care but now I've noticed a few larger pieces and they're really annoying.
I understand that I should get a 12 month warranty with this and surely it's not meant to happen so I'd expect a replacement. I've searched around and I seem to get mixed answers. The problem is that I'm currently working in Cologne and there are only 3 Apple Stores in Germany (I can't believe it!) and the nearest one is still over 100 miles away.
What do you recommend? Would Apple do anything like post one (I doubt it?) or am I going to just have to wait until I'm near Frankfurt (or even back in London) and book an appointment there. Even then... what are my chances of getting a replacement?
Thanks in advance everyone! Much appreciated

I doubt they will give you a replacement. I know here in the States you can take your iphone to an Apple store and they can replace the screen and charge you $200 for that. But I find it hard to believe they would replace the screen for free just because there are dust particles under the glass. That's just my opinion.

  • Dust under a glass screen.

I've got my IPad 8 months ago - screen in perfect condition. Just recently - few days ago a white spot (dust particle) appeared under the glass screen. Quite annoying on white background and visible when you switch off the screen. Is it possible to replace the unit under 1 year warranty ?

Is it possible - yes. But only Apple can make the determination for sure. You would have to show it to an Apple Genius or contact Apple and send your iPad to them so that they can see the device.

  • Dust under the screen Ipad Air

Good day! I have a question - a month ago bought a ipad air and air during operation found that the display frame extends from the body of the device and the screen under the glass dust is present, contact the service center where I confirmed the marriage air. Specialist informed me that the replacement will be made within 4 weeks - it is very long for me, is it possible to accelerate
why you need to disable the find under my device before putting in service?

if the warranty ended, then no: Apple will be able replace it but not free of charge

I cannot delete a webpage under the 'glasses' icon in the reading list of the Safari browser. It just says ' show unread' but does not delete it. There is no 'Edit' button in the reading list under the 'glasses' icon. There is no way I can delete that webpage. I erased the iphone but it did not work. The webpage is still in the reading list under the 'glasses' icon. What can i do? I want to delete it.

    Hey virginiefromfr,
I found this on deleting items from your reading list:
Delete something from your reading list:
Swipe left on the item in your reading list.

  • Dust under the LCD cover, sticky/non-responsive keyboard..

    Hello,
I've been trying to find information on this.
I purchased this phone, outright, from Bell when they finally started selling it a couple of weeks ago.  Since then, the phone has aquired a large amount of dust under the LCD cover (and continues to do so).  The keys sometimes "stick" or feel like they cannot be pushed down (but are registering).
I contacted my carrier, Bell, over the phone and the CSR told me to go into a local Bell store to get it checked out.
I went to my local Bell store and a worker there told me that I can't get it exchanged and that I should just open the phone myself to clean out the dust and check the keyboard.
    Is this right?
They're telling me to void the warranty on this brand new phone regarding problems I'm having with it.  Does anyone have any tips on what I should do about this?
My previous phone (which was a Pearl 8130 that I had for 3 years) didn't collect any dust under the LCD screen and had no keyboard issues.

your warranty and support is through your carrier you need to be firm and explain it better to them your issue. You should not have dust on the LCD so soon with a new device (unless it is damaged) as for sticky keys, i never had a sticky key with the hundreds of devices we have unless some one spilled something on it. If it is a factory defect, again you have to get this taken care of with your carrier and they are the first line in warranty support.
    Good Luck.

  • Dust under the screen....

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?
    Thanks

Roaminggnome is right, it's a case by case basis, but as long as you have not abused the phone, it's more than likely you can get a replacement, but don't quote me on that. They will replace the phone if they decide to--they don't do cosmetic work. So, what I'm saying simply is--maybe, maybe not--make an appointment with a Genius at an Apple Store to see. If they will, they'll give you another iPhone.

  • Dust Under the Screen and Case Cracks

    Hey guys,
I am the proud owner of an iPhone 3G S, and love the thing to pieces. I've had it for 8 months now, however over the past few weeks, I have become slightly disappointed with it.
Firstly, a small crack appeared above the 'Silent On/Off' switch, which I don't understand how it appeared as the phone has never been dropped or bumped. It's only very tiny, but I'm a perfectionist and not particularly happy about the fact it has appeared by itself. I treat my phone like royalty.
Then today, I realised a tiny white fleck on the screen when running an app. At first, I thought it might have been a dead pixel, but it turns out that it's a fleck of dust under the screen. How did it get there?! And it's not the only fleck either. When I turned the screen off, there appears to be at least 3 or 4 tiny flecks. They aren't obtrusive to the screen, but annoy me as, like I said before, I'm a perfectionist.
Am I still within warranty at 8 months? And if I am, would Apple replace my iPhone if I was to return it? It was purchased from O2, so would I return it to them, or Apple directly?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I finally took my device to the Apple Store today. Due to having dust beneath the screen, as well as the crack, it meant they replaced the whole unit, rather than just the screen, which they would have done in the event of just dust.
If anyone else has any issues, I'd highly recommend taking it to a Genius Bar. The staff were so helpful, and no questions were asked really.
    Well done Apple
