Partition Boot Camp for Win 7/Win XP

So here's the story:  For about 3 years I had Boot Camp running on my Mac Mini under Win XP.  Then came the crash and I had to recreate the Boot Camp partition - this time with Win 7 because I was silly enough to upgrade my OS to 10.7.4 (it's 10.7.5 now).  Surprise - many XP programs aren't compatible with Win 7 -DOH!
So, gurus, my question is: Can I partition my Boot Camp partition so I can install Win XP and run my programs?
Second option:  I have an external HD with lots of empty space. Can I add an XP partition to it and run my Windows programs from there?  If I can, how do I do it?
Thanks
Mike

  • Boot camp for Win 8.1 on 3tb Fusion drive, Yosemite

    Hi,
As many other have reported on the internet I am having problems installing windows on my iMac 27' late 2014 3tb fusion drive, where the partition I create falls outside the 2.2tb limit that prevents windows to be installed when selecting disk under the windows installation (i.e, same problem as Win 8.1, iMac Retina 3TB Fusion, Yosemite, Boot Camp fail!).
Is my understanding correct that this issue was solved in the OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.3 or was all they did to make sure boot camp could create a partition, but windows still couldn't find it?
I am using Yosemite 10.10.2 and I am wondering if for some reason they didn't include this update?
Has anyone successfully installed windows through boot camp on a 3tb fusion drive on yosemite, without 'manually' dividing the 3tb fusion into two partitions, and then creating the windows partition within the first partition?
    Many thanks

There is a Boot Camp forum that I'd recommend you post to rather than a general iMac forum.

  • Will there be a boot camp for Windows 8 Pro?

Does anyone have a clue as to when Apple will have the boot camp available for the Windows 8 Pro? I like the interface better than the Win 7.
boot camp for Win 7 works great but when applied to the  Win 8 program...display is dim, apple keyboard and track mouse in-operable. The case gets hot but only on the Windows operating side. I am unistalling Windows entirely until there is a boot camp that resolves these issues. Mac Operating sys. 10.8.2 mtn lion

People aren't supposed to say here at least reguarding future releases of apple products, but I do know that windows 8 should work with the current bootcamp, I haven't tried because I really dont like windows 8, but it should take all the windows 7 drivers, and I've read about people thatve gotten it working on their macs. Of course it's completely unsupported, but that doesnt mean it isnt going to work.
Of course the operative word here is 'should' .. It has worked for some and not for others, as 8 is currently un-released that is unlikely to change until Microsoft release it and (and only then) Apple release drivers for it.

Hi, I have installed boot camp with wins xp home but i can't get on line with it. can only one help please.

Please close this thread, I have managed to get a hold of a DVD including all the drivers, so I suppose that will work, if not one way then another.
Thank you for the quick answers.

  • CAN I ERASE PARTITION BOOT CAMP IF I HAVE INSTALLED PARALLELS DESKTOP?

CAN I ERASE PARTITION BOOT CAMP IF I HAVE INSTALLED PARALLELS DESKTOP?

I think the answer is NO. Or Maybe. Or, can't answer based on lack of details. And, more a question for Parallels Support forums.
All depends on your setup. But you will lose ability to dual boot or use VM most likely.
In any event, we are not mind readers. And have some backups already.
Before you do? do this: buy WinClone 3 and make a backup image of Windows hard partition "aka" Boot Camp.

  • Boot camp for OS X 10.6.8

Hello - I am looking for a safe source to download Boot Camp for an Intel iMac running OS X 10.6.8. Have several Windows-based programs I need to run.
    Thank you kindly

See Boot Camp 3.0, Mac OS X 10.6: Frequently asked questions and Re: Where can I download BootCamp 3.0? AFAIK, Boot Camp comes with the discs that shipped with the machine. If you don't have those, they're available from AppleCare for a nominal S&H fee.

Apple discontinued BootCamp beta last year. They have all expired and no longer work.
    It was a beta program.
You need to purchase Leopard in order to install BootCamp and get the updates.
You can also install Winders without BootCamp using a virtual program like Parallels or using the free bootmanager, rEFIt. Either of these will allow you to install Winders, Linux or any other OSs on your HD, but you are on your own if you take that route.
The only support path is using Leopard.

  • Boot Camp for Macbook Pro "Windows 8"

Hello. Excuse me my ignorance. I have MacBook Pro > http://www.zzounds.com/item--APLMBP17
And I installed Windows 8.. I can't find Boot Camp for it.. Help me please...

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Windows 8 is only compatible with Mid 2010 15-inch or newer MacBooks Pro, and your computer is older, so there aren't drivers for Boot Camp in Windows 8 for your MacBook. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
You could install Windows 8 because your Mac is compatible, but Apple decided not to give Boot Camp compatibility with Windows 8 to your computer, so it won't work correctly with Windows 8. You can continue using it with Windows 8 or you can install Windows 7 and download the Boot Camp drivers, so it will work correctly

Of course there is. There is with any computer system that you connect to the internet or transfers files to and from. When you run Windows on your Mac you increase the chance from zero that you will get a Windows based virus to virtualy the same risk as any other Windows user.
The weaknesses in Windows OS and applications are well trodden by virus and worm malcontents the world over. That doesn't mean that OSX is exempt though. All it will take is once and the entire Mac world will sit up and take notice......

  • Will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me?

will genius bar install windows (boot camp) for me? if so, costs?

Ask them. We don't know what your local Apple Store will do for you. It will certainly cost you their hourly charge for however many hours are involved. You may have to purchase Win8 from them but if not you must have a copy of your own.
Or you can take the time to read the Boot Camp documentation and do it yourself. Start here: Apple - Support - Boot Camp. Open Boot Camp Assistant then click on the large button on the left to print the documentation. Then read it very carefully.

  • Boot Camp with Win 8 Can't See The USB External Drive [MBR with NTFS, Fat32, HFS Partitions]

Hi. When I boot to Boot Camp with the latest Apple Windows Support drivers can't see my USB Flash Drive, DVD and OS X volumes but not my USB external drive that has an MBR partition scheme (using iPartition from GUID) and in there it has different volumes [HFS when I boot to Snow Leopard, Fat32, NTFS]. What can I do with Boot Camp to make it see my USB external drive and why isn't it seeing the USB when it can see the USB flash drive both use USB?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

Buy Paragon NTFS for OS X $20.

You are correct. Please see - iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3TB hard drive - Apple Support.
BCA should work. If you are running into any issues, can you post the output of the following Terminal commands?
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv r show /dev/disk0
sudo gpt -vv r show /dev/disk1
    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

  • Boot camp on win xp sp 2 crashes approx every 15 min ?

Mac pro 2.8, OS X 10.5.6, win xp sp2 on a saparate drive.
Boot camp 2.1 on win xp sp 2 crashes approx every 15 min ?
Installed clean, starts and works great for about 15 min then reboots, no blue screen or errors just reboots.
Looking for more info on this any assist. would be great,
    Thanks in advance.

    Other things to look at:
Intel LAN, RealTek, your graphics driver, look at what you installed, check msconfig and disable everything there for now you don't need, leaving just basics and your AV program.
    Run system file checker -
    sfc /scannow
Schedule a chkdsk on your drive.
