Partition details

Hi all,
I have the following doubts regarding creating partitions in tables.
1. Whether we can have more than one number of partitions on the same table
2. If yes then whether we can have range partitions on two different columns of the same table.
Thanks
silambu

I am not sure that I understand the question correctly but here goes:
You can only partation a table on one partition key; however, the key can be multi-column and you can mix partition options such as hash partitioning within a range partitioned table. This is called a composit partition.
See the Oracle Concepts and DBA Administration manuals for more information on table partitioning.

  • Get cube partition details

I want cube partition detail by executing sql query or mdx ? Can some one give this answer ?

What we do is to have a control table and store details of dimensions and measure group partitions inside it. Then we use a SSIS package which will have a for each loop to iterate through table records and process the dimension/ measure groups. We use
Analysis Services Processing task for processing the partitions/ dimensions. The command would be a XMLA script which would be generated dynamically based on Partition/diemsnion ID. If its start of new period we would also have a step to add a new partition
to cube using AS DDL task and also add details to the table.

  • Missing partitions after running Recovery from previous System Image Backup in Windows 8.1

After running Recovery from a recent Sytem Image Backup the LRS_ESP partition is now missing and the Used space on the  PBR_DRV partition is reported as 95.20MB while it previously reported 9.52GB in use. The WINRE_DRV, SYSTEM_DRV, Windows8_OS and D:LENOVO partions appear to be OK.
I ran the Recover after replacing the original 500GB HDD with a 1TB. Any details/links/recommendations on recreating/correcting the LRS_ESP and PBR_DRV partitions? Thanks!

  • How to add new column in partition table

    Hi,
In Oracle 10g Database, I have one table (X) with list partition . I have added one new column to "X" by "Alter Table" command. Please advise whether any other command needs to be executed since it is a partition table .

  • RE: Partition workshop hangs

    Sounds ugly. Couple of thoughts.
I assume you've created a test harness to load seperate partitions to ensure
    the basics are working?
Check it out on fscript ( findproj badname, removeconf, findact, partition 0
    , showplan ). Maybe showplan
will identify a hole in your repository.
If you have multiple services in seperate partitions, try swapping in dummy
    noop classes for each. Could
be you have a failed autostart plan you didn't expect.
If that all fails, use the test harness to preload ftexec partitions in your
    environment and crank up the
Trace flags on them and leaf through the output...
    trc:c4:5:5 info mssgs
    trc:c4:9:10 Traces all notifications sent
trc:do:10-11 Partition manager( 10 for header, 11 for partition

    Good luck

I posted this problem a couple of months ago & then didn't really have
time to look into it, so I'm posting it again. A couple of months ago we
started having problems running applications from the partition workshop.
Sometime they work & sometimes they don't & there isn't any repeatable
pattern that happened when they do work??
Once you get into the partition workshop & click the running man, it
churns for awhile & then we get a "loading partition into server" message
& then it goes off into no mans land. If I look at the task manager on the
client that's trying to run it, the ftexec isn't even getting cpu cycles,
although it starts out getting cycles, & then all of a sudden, it just
stops?? When I try to start Econsole to see what's happening, it won't
even come up?? IF it does run, I can exit out, shutdown the partition
workshop, go right back into the partition workshop, click the running man
& this time, it doesn't run!! No errors are generated either. Once it
"goes into no mans land", the only way to stop it is to do an "end task"
from task manager. A cancel run from the workshop doesn't even work?
I've played around with increasing the memory settings on the ftexec that
starts when you start Forte Distributed, I've tried different workspaces,
some with a shadow, others without. I've even tried uninstalling &
reloading Forte on the machine, all to no avail. We're running NT 4.0
    clients, Forte 3.0.J.1, Digital Unix 4.0.D .
Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions on what to do/try?? Any help
    would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Try to increase the FORTE_STACK_SIZE. I think the recommended setting for
Digital UNIX is 60000 which is about 60k per thread.
I encountered similar problem before on connecting to Ingres. The problem
may be that the default is too low, so on some library calls, the thread
just hangs. You will encounter the same problem again when trying
distributed run because the same ftexec is being used. Sometime it works
because maybe by chance your run fall into another ftexec.
I handle such situation by browsing into the ftexec using Econsole or
escript. If Econsole/escript can't get into it, that means the ftexec run
away or hanged. I will kill -9 the ftexec and try distributed run again.
    Best regards,
    Peter Sham.

  • How to compile Oracle Linux source?

I accidentally downloaded source DVD "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 source - DVD" instead of installable ISO image. Is there anyway I can compile it to make bootable ISO image?
I tried to search this forum as well as other places but couldn't find any information hence thought of opening a thread before I proceed to download correct file which will again take 10+ hrs with my Internet speed :(
Any help is highly appreciated. Also I need to know which packages are required to be installed for compiling the source if at all that is possible. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop.
Thanks in advance for any help and hope to get a reply soon :) I need to urgently install Oracle 11gR2 on it.
    Edited by: user6582219 on Apr 12, 2012 1:10 AM
While browsing the forum for any possible solution I came to a thread that discuss installation of a package oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall. When searched through search engine I came to know about recent certification Oracle 11gR2 on Oracle Linux 6, here is the link https://blogs.oracle.com/linux/entry/announcing_oracle_database_11g_r2
    https://blogs.oracle.com/linux/entry/announcing_oracle_database_11g_r2
Thing is I already have Oracle Linux 6 Update 2 (the latest) installed on my machine in dual boot mode so I dropped the idea of installing version 5.2. As per the documentation 11gR2 was not certified earlier on Linux 6.2 so I thought of installing 5.2 but it is not necessary now.
I would still appreciate if someone could answer my question just for knowing the procedure compiling source. May be it can help someone else trying to achieve this.
I have another couple of important questions and need guidance from the experts over here. I am not sure if it is appropriate to open a new thread but for now I am posting them here.
Before proceeding here are my environment details:
Machine: x86 32 bit with 2 GB RAM/250 GB HD.
OS: Kubuntu 11.10 Desktop and Oracle Linux 6 Update 2 in dual boot mode.
Here are my partition details for your reference but as I am planning to do the installation from the scratch following new ideal scheme you can jump to last paragraph following the line "*********************************" for my questions.
Unfortunately my partition plan went wrong and here is what I have now:
    Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders, total 488397168 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0x3d5ba9e1
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 2048 1002047 500000 83 Linux
    /dev/sda2 151525080 361253654 104864287+ 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
    /dev/sda4 1003518 151001087 74998785 5 Extended
    /dev/sda5 1003520 7002111 2999296 82 Linux swap / Solaris
    /dev/sda6 7004160 11001855 1998848 83 Linux
    /dev/sda7 11003904 51001343 19998720 83 Linux
    /dev/sda8 51003392 110041087 29518848 83 Linux
Partition table entries are not in disk order
/dev/sda1 here is /tmp, /dev/sda2 is my data partition, I have separate /home / (root) partition for Kubuntu and remianing around 20 GB in extended partition is used for Oracle Linux 6.2 with default Oracle suggested LVM partition. I also have separate /boot for Kubuntu and I chose not to install grub while installing Oracle Linux. I later modified grub.cfg to add entries for Oracle Linux and now I can boot both OSs successfully.
My issue now is I cannot extend 20 GB space (in extended partition) that I have given to Oracle though I have around 40 GB space available. This is because I alreay have 4 primary partitions (one for /boot others for "data" and one extended partition). So I have to make primary partition out of free space and install Oracle in a single partition without following recommended partition layout scheme.
Now I want to do the installation of both the OS from the scratch and really need an advice on partition layout scheme. Here is summary of what I wan to achieve:
    1. Keep the "data" partition (primary) intact and carve an ideal partition layout for both the OS with separate /boot, /tmp, /home, swap (and may be for /usr???). Also may be I can share swap?
    2. How do I go about using LVM and is it recommended for this case? What would be ideal locations for each partitions and sizes? I already used 100 GB for "data" so now I want to keep 60 GB for Oracle Linux (and Oracle DB for which I will again make few sub-partitions) and remaining will be for Kubuntu.
Well, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions but since I can see very knowlegeable top contributors here that are willing to help novice users I thought of posting these questions.
I would really really appreciate if someone can provide me rough draft of partition scheme in my case considering the sub-partitions needed for Oracle DB. I went thorugh number of forums and documentations to come up with solutuion and finally thought of getting help after much confusion.
I really need to carefully plan this time because it's third time I am doing reinstallation from the scratch because of poor plan I followed previously.
Thank you very much in advance and please let me know in case more information is needed from my side.
    Regards,
    Ramesh

I accidentally downloaded source DVD "Oracle Linux Release 5 Update 2 source - DVD" instead of installable ISO image. Is there anyway I can compile it to make bootable ISO image?Google will be your best friend for such a question, for instance, "Creating a Custom centos Linux bootable ISO Image". There is no need to duplicate the effort. I recommend you download the correct installation DVD, e.g. 5.8
Thing is I already have Oracle Linux 6 Update 2 (the latest) installed on my machine in dual boot mode so I dropped the idea of installing version 5.2. As per the documentation 11gR2 was not certified earlier on Linux 6.2 so I thought of installing 5.2 but it is not necessary now.So you don't need to install 5.2 anymore, but you want the information how to compile a installation DVD from the 5.2 source anyway?!
I have another couple of important questions and need guidance from the experts over here. I am not sure if it is appropriate to open a new thread but for now I am posting them here.Questions may be important for you, but not necessarily for others. No one will complain if you create a new thread for particular questions or subjects. It is better to separate your topics and questions rather than creating a multi-mega thread, which does little to help anyone else but you. It means more work on your end, but it will be easier for anyone to participate or answer your questions, and it will allow you to better award answers.
Regarding your partitioning questions: It is generally difficult to address such topics in a forum. You are asking for a book of information. My advice is to drop the old fashioned concepts of dual or triple boot options and install Oracle VirtualBox instead. It will make all of these questions obsolete and you can use whatever defaults when installing your virtual machine guest OS. Its a far more superior way of dealing with multiple operating systems on one and the same computer.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 Desktop.
I need to urgently install Oracle 11gR2 on it.For what it's worth, if you can combine the two source below you should be able to install and run 11gR2 on Ubuntu 11.10.

  • SSAS Tabular : MDX query goes OutOfMemory for a larger dataset

    Hello all,
I am using SSAS 2012 Tabular to build the cube to support the organizational reporting requirements. Right now the server is Windows 2008 x64 with 16GB of Ram installed. I have the following MDX query. What this query does is get the member caption of the
“OrderGroupNumber” non-key attribute as a measure where order group numbers pertain to a specific day and which occurs in specific seconds of a day. As I want to find in which second I have order group numbers, I cross the time dimension’s members with a specific
day and filter the tuples using the transaction count. The transaction count is a non-zero value if an Order Group Number occurs within a specific second of a selected day.
At present “TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].[OrderGroupNumber]” has 170+ million members (Potentially this could grow rapidly) and time dimension has 86400 members.
    WITH
    MEMBER [Measures].[OrderGroupNumber]
    AS IIF([Measures].[Transaction Count] > 0, [TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION,
    NULL)
    SELECT
    NON EMPTY{[TransactionsInflight].[OrderGroupNumber].[OrderGroupNumber].MEMBERS}
    ON COLUMNS,
    {FILTER(([Date].[Calendar Hierarchy].[Date].&[2012-07-05T00:00:00], [Time].[Time].[Time].MEMBERS),
    [Measures].[Transaction Count] > 0) } ON
    ROWS
    FROM [OrgDataCube]
    WHERE [Measures].[OrderGroupNumber]
After I run this query it reaches to a dead-end and freezes the server (Sometimes SSAS server throws OutOfMemory exception but sometimes it does not). Even though I have 16GB of memory it uses all the memory and doing nothing. I have to do a hard-reset against
the server to get the server online. Even I limit the time members using the “:” range operator still the machine freeze. I have run out of solutions to fine-tune the design. Could you guys provide me some guidelines to optimize this query? I am willing to
do a design change if it is necessary.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Chandima

    Hi Greg,
Finally I found the problem why the query goes out of memory in tabular mode. I guess this information will helpful for others and I am posting my findings.
Some of the non-key attribute columns in the tabular model tables (mainly the tables which form dimensions) do not contain pretty names. So for the non-key attribute columns which I need to provide pretty names I renamed the columns to something else.
For an example, in my date dimension there is a non-key attribute named “DateAltKey”. This is the date column which I am using. As this is not pretty to the client tools I renamed this column as “Date” inside the designer (Dimension
design screen). I deployed the cube, processed the cube and no problem.
Now here comes the fun part. For every table, inside the Tables node (Tabular SSAS Database > Tables) you can view the partition details. You have single partition per dimension table if you do not create extra partitions. I opened the partitions screen
and clicked on the “Edit” icon and performed a Syntax Check. Surprisingly it failed. It complains about the renamed column. It complained “Date” cannot be found in source. So I realized that I cannot simply rename the columns like that.
After that I created calculated columns (with a pretty name) for all the columns which complained and all the source columns to the calculated columns were hid from the client tools. I deployed the cube, processed the cube and performed a
syntax check. No errors and everything were perfect.
I ran the query which gave me trouble and guess what... it executed within 5 seconds. My problem is solved. I really do not know who did this improve the performance but the trick worked for me.
Thanks a lot for your support.
    Chandima

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

  • Unable to install windows 7 on X60 says "no device drivers found"

    Hi all
I have working lenevo think pad X60 32bit with windows XP installed on it, first time I was able to succesfuuly installed to windows 7 using clean install, everthing works great.
Then some how my PC got infected  with virus and not able to boot it always says "recover from windows"  but could not succeded, finally wanted to re install again using windows 7 DVD
First I set boot order from CD but it always booting from infected image from HD and displays same message.
I have tried another option by getting into command prompt where I did access to my DVD drive and issued setup.exe
I went couple of instructions and finally stuck where it is unable to install windows 7 by giving below error
it says "no device drivers found" on the bottom of window and top of the window it says "where to install windows 7"
On window I think it will expect partition details but window is empty
I am not sure why my hard drive is not recognizing, I tried some of the drivers from this site but it could not recognize even if I select via browse

  • Creation of separate database

    Hello friends,
I've to create a new database like production but don't know how do I proceed!
The server detail is as under:
    EBS 12.1.1
    Redhat Linux 64bit
    Vision database
The partition detail is as under :
    Filesystem     -     Size      -     Used      -     Avail      -     Use% -     Mounted on
    /dev/sda5     -     15G      -     2.5G -      12G      -     18%      -     /
    /dev/sda7     -     107G -      40G -     62G      -     39%      -     /PROD
    /dev/sda3     -     54G -     47G      -     3.6G -     93%      -     /stage

    tmpfs          -     3.9G -     2.8M -     3.9G -      1%      -     /dev/shm
    Memory details:
    Total Memory : 7974
    Used Memory : 7893
    -/+ buffers/cache: 1773 / 6200
    Swap: 16386, used: 0
    SGA size:
    sga_max_size: 4G
    sga_target: 4G
It seems I don't have much space. Further I can't delete vision as we use it for demo purpose.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Aneel

    1) how much space will be required to create new database? Are you installing a new database or cloning an existing one?
If you are cloning, you need the same size of the source database.
If you are installing, please see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18727_01/doc.121/e12842/T422699i4773.htm#3708195
    2) If I've space upto 450 GB and I re-install OS can I've 2 instances (Vision & Prod) then?No.
    3) Can I delete some unusable tablespaces from Vision database to make some space? (sorry if it sound a foolish question - I'm newbie :P )Yes, if it is possible and you need to resize the existing tablespaces.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • SSAS Tabular: Show balance on latest dimension attribute

    Hi,
I have a fact with transactions over time eg.
    20140101, 1000
    20140105,-400
In SSAS Tabular, I want to add a balance (saldo) measure, that shows the balance on any given date from my date dimension
    Balance 20140106: 600
I can do this by using SUMX (or summarize)
    Saldo:=SUMX(
    VALUES('Date'[Date])
    ,CALCULATE(
    SUM(Fact[Amount])
    ,DATESBETWEEN('Date'[Date],BLANK(),LASTDATE('Date'[Date]))
    ,ALL('Date')
The issue arises when I want to show the balance for an attribute from a dimension related to the latest fact entry. I can calculate this on dates that has transactions like this:
    Saldo_MaxFact:=MAXX(
    VALUES('Fact'[FactId])
    ,CALCULATE(
    SUM(Fact[Amount])
    ,DATESBETWEEN('Date'[Date],BLANK(),LASTDATE('Date'[Date]))
    ,ALL('Date')
    ,ALL('Fact'[FactId])
    ,ALL('Dimension')
But on dates with no transactions, this measure is empty (which makes sense, since there is no FactId to roll-up the sum to).
How would I go about creating a measure that rolls up to any given date AND the attributes on the latest fact entry?
    I have created a sample snapshot: http://1drv.ms/1ly4o6a
Sample Excel Power Pivot model: http://1drv.ms/1jy2nkX
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi Greg,
Finally I found the problem why the query goes out of memory in tabular mode.

That is where I'm having the problem. I can't get the self update to work, because I keep getting timed out... I know it has something to do with my proxy server. This server doesn't have access to the internet, but has all of *oracle.com websites available to it.  So basically I was trying to find a way around using that self update...  Every time I test the https://updates.oracle.com link in the proxy settings in OEM.  It says the test succedded, but when I try to update my credentials for MOS, I keep getting timed out.

  • How to change CUBE properies after create

    Hi,
I am using AWM 102020A, I have created a CUBE and now want to go back and change some of the implementation details , is it possible to change :-
    Tab -> Implementation Details
    1. Order of dimensions
    2. Sparsity checkbox
    3. Partition Details
    Tab -> Cache
    1. Turn on session cache if checked off.
Seems these are locked down after create, how can I change these details.
    Thanks for any help,
    Brandon

Since you are you using the 10.2.0.2 version of AWM I suppose the database version you are using is also 10.2.0.2 or below.
So to my knowledge the answer is no.
If you are on the 10.2.0.3 version you have some more options because of the integrated sparsity advisor. Then you would have had the opportunity to recreate the cube. I have never tested the actual recreate function, but I've tested the sparsity advisor and saw that I could change if the cube was to be compressed, what dimension to be sparse etc.
Seems like to have to have the 10.2.0.3 version of the database for this to work.
