Partition Error - target disk too small

On my 3.1Ghz iMac running OSX 10.8.5 I'm trying to Partition my Hard drive so I can setup a second boot.
Currently my Macintosh HD has 404.07GB USED and 707.75 AVAILABLE.
I'm trying to add a partition that is about 350GB.  But when I do so, it gives an error that the Target Disk Is Too Small.
Why is this?  How can I get around this?
I have included screenshots from my Disk Utility:

You can't resize a Core Storage logical volume. You would have to start up in Recovery mode and destroy the logical volume group (also destroying all data in the process), partition, and then restore the data from a backup. Almost certainly this is not a good idea unless you need to dual boot, but that wasn't your question.

I posted this before and got some feedback and tried everything but it is not fixing the problem! I rewarded points to all the answers. I had basis increase roll area size, optimized code and did everything I can but I am still getting the same error "roll area too small". Same program works in 4.6C but in ECC6.0 I get this error! I have other programs that generates more than 10,000 pages in the spool but the program I am working on creates only 7700 pages! I  am not sure what else is changed in ECC6.0! Could someone please give me any ideas? rewards assured.
    thanks.

    Hello Mithun,
Even i think increasing the roll area should have helped
Are both the systems WIndows based  or is one unix based ?
    see this
    http://listserv.sap.com/pipermail/linux.general/2001-July/thread.html#670
and search for "roll area too small" in the list of links
    it may help
    Also,
in this solution, it says to use 'field groups'

  • Windows Disk too small

I am running Windows XP that was installed on my intel Macbook- aluminum. I also have Parallels installed but that would not allow me to upgrade my Blackberry. So I went for a full install. That partition is now too small and I need to make it bigger. I cannot change the size using Disk Utility. How do I make it larger? Can it be done on the Mac side, or do I have to do it on the Windows side? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bernard,
Paragon has a Pre-Release of Camp Tune which claims to be able to resize BootCamp partitions http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/
The other way to do this is using WinClone http://twocanoes.com/winclone/ to backup and restore the BootCamp partition.
During the restore process WinClone can resize the partition.
The culprit to WinClone is that this feature only works if your BootCamp partition uses the NTFS file system.
It can not resize the partition if it is a FAT32 partition.
As for Camp Tune I don't know if it's true for it also.
When using Camp Tune you should make a backup of the BootCamp partition before, so in case something goes wrong, you won't lose anything.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Help: Windows XP on MacBook Pro Boot Camp Partition via Target Disk Mode

Firstly, let me lay out my situation. I have an old MacBook Pro (2,2) with a broken disk drive. It was dropped in its youth and can no longer read from or write to CDs or DVDs of any kind. I have just recently bought a new MacBook Pro to replace it (6,2) and am currently trying to convert the old computer into an XP machine through Boot Camp. I'd like to be able to do so without having to buy an external disk drive.
After a clean install of OS X (10.6.3) onto the old machine, I successfully partition 85GB of space (although I previously attempted the same with a 32GB file system to no avail as well) for XP to be installed upon. Because I cannot boot my XP install disk directly from the broken disk drive, I then close Boot Camp Assistant and shut down the computer. I start it up in Target Disk Mode to be accessed from the new MacBook (6,2).
Once the old MacBook is connected, I insert my XP install disk into the new MacBook (6,2) and boot from the disk. After allowing the XP (Professional) boot to load the install files, I arrow-key down to my 85GB partition (FAT32, named standard as "BOOTCAMP") on the old MacBook (2,2)'s hard drive and select it as the partition I would like to install to. This is where I am directed to a new boot window that tells me in a series of paragraphs that the XP installer cannot reach the selected partition for what seems to be a number of reasons. What it seems to be trying to say to me is that it cannot do a remote install of XP on a Target Disk Mode-connected machine, while not "knowing" that I am trying to do so. It's a similar message to the one that Boot Camp Assistant shows when one tries to create a Boot Camp partition on a machine that is being accessed via Target Disk Mode (Apple puts it much more clearly than Microsoft).
I'd be perfectly content, albiet slightly vexed, to conclude here that it is not possible, shuttle over to the nearest Best Buy, and purchase an external disk drive if it weren't for one thing: I tried the same thing two weeks ago with Ubuntu 10.10 and it installed perfectly on the Boot Camp partition I had created then (I have since wiped all and installed OS X cleanly on the laptop).
    Here comes the point/questions:
If the Ubuntu boot disk can access the partition, why can't the XP boot disk?
Is there some way to convince the boot system that the drive is local, rather than being accessed via Target Disk Mode?
Is there an easy solution that doesn't even require that, and will allow me to install to the disk over a firewire connection?
If anyone's knowledgeable and/or brave enough to tackle this one, I'll be eternally grateful. Heck, I'll be grateful if anyone even attempts to tackle it.
    Thanks,
    -Alec Page

Windows XP will only install from the optical drive. Target Disk Mode does not work with Windows volumes. Windows will not install from any external device.

  • Oracle Report Error (string buffer too small) in Portal

    Hi,
I have registered an oracle report (.rdf) with portal which works fine outside in Reports Builder, but when I try to run it in Portal it keeps throwing this error:
SQL-6502: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 444
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL.WWV_RW_USR", line 923
    ORA-06512: at line 1
Anyone know what needs to be done to fix this?
    Thanks

    Sean:
Thank you very much for wading through my post.
    >"if (NIerror = DAQmxCfgInputBuffer(h, numSamples*4))"
    >I would leave this line out. DAQmx should create an input buffer automatically
    >based on the number of channels and number of samples per channel.
Yeah- I put that in trying to fix the problem. The error message doesn't say *which* buffer is too small
    >If you just call the DAQmxReadDigitalLines() function with "numSampsPerChan" set to -1,
    >DAQmx will wait until all samples are acquired before performing the read.
I'm trying to avoid the wait. That's why I'm trying to figure out how many samples are ready.
I suppose I can try numSampsPerChan=-1, set a short timeout and check for the timeout error.
    >If this does not help, please send me a small section of code that reproduces that behavior,
    >and I will try running it on my machine.
I will try modifying one of the examples to do what I'm trying to do.
    Again, Thank you!

    Hi Kulbir,
This Report is not Live to schedule the report. It is under Build phase. I need to send this report UAT(User Acceptance Test). I afraid, they may get same error, when they try to refresh the report.
    - Refresh the report is one of the Test case. This Test case should pass without any error.
Aswell, for your question: I am applying Sum function for the reocords at Universe Level. Not at the Report Level. I have not used any report level Variables.

  • Time Machine back-up disk too small

Recently I had to restore my system from a Time Machine back-up, all seemed to work fine. Now I have a situation where time machine gives me an error when I attempt a back up, saying there's not enough free space on the back-up drive. The drive I'm backing up is max 500megs, the external BU drive is a TB. I fixed all the prefs but it seems as though Time machine is not deleting old files from my BU drive to make room for new ones. Any ideas?

Hi, I have the same problem.
My backup drive (G-Tech Q 500Gb) has 465Gb of space and my Pro has only 434Gb,
Your backup drive is much too small. To work well (and keep a reasonable number of backups for you), TM usually needs roughly 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up. See item #1 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
yet when I tried to update it says I still need 63Gb of space??? I downloaded the Time Machine buddy recommended here, the message said that some old copies were deleted but still need 64Gb, only had 40Gb.
Did I miss something? should I just wipe my G-Tech and try again?
Short-term, probably. Without the actual messages, we can only speculate, but most likely you've made a lot of changes or for some other reason TM is trying to back-up about 54 gb (the 64 includes about 20% extra for workspace). Copy and post the TM Buddy messages here and we can be sure.
Long-term, you need a bigger drive.

  • Printing Error, Images print too small - postage-stamp-size

When I print from Photoshop (CS4 or CS5 - this has been going on for a while) the result is always a tiny image which apperas in the upper left corner of the page - about the size of a stamp - no matter the size specified in the PSD file.
To illustrate the printed page looks like this:
    I expected this:
The print dialogue box looks like this:
I have tried tweaking setting - nothing I have done impacts this error.  It occure 100% of the time and only with Photoshop.
My work around for the last few years has been to "Save As" a PDF.  Open the PDF and print it from Acrobat.  This always works and is not a huge labor, so I've just gotten used to doing it.  But I'd really like to understand why this is happeneing and to avoid the 'work-around' when I need a quick glimps of a hard copy.
Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?

I'm getting the exact same problem as described above, although I'm running a Mac with OSX.  I have an HP Photosmart C310 all-in-one (no fax, though) printer.  I tried creating a new printer profile, but the problem remains.  Any other solutions folks have heard of?
ADDENDUM:  Well here's a dumb luck fix.
I checked the "Scale to Fit Media" box
and this tells me that my 3 in x 3.5 in picture (which, by the way, is listed as these dimensions in both the image and canvas sizes) will now be 7.285 x 8.499 in.  Ok.  Let's  try.  When I printed it, the image came out the proper size.
It's wrong, and I don't care.  It worked.

  • New Ideapad Flex 15 - recovery partition too small!!

Hi - I'm trying to backup my system using the One Key App, but when I do, I find that the recovery partition (D: drive) is too small to accept the size of the backup image.
I don't have a CD drive and the One Key app won't allow me to backup to a network folder on my desktop PC.
    Please help.

    Hi, Gabe687,
How about your problem now? The warning: "merging the D drive with the C drive may cause a boot error and data loss" because of when extend system drive partition, Windows boot file might be corrupt.
To reduce C drive capacity, you can try to make Disk Cleanup for test.
Right click C drive, choose Properties, Disk Cleanup.

  • Disk Utility Partition Error

I updated from Tiger to Leopard, and in the last 2 wks noticed I had little remaining space on my hard disk. After checking in Disk Utility, however, I found that my hard disk partition had reduced from what should be a full 160Mb, to a mere 52Mb or so, but there is NOT another partition (just a grey area for the rest of the blank space)! When I try and increase my hard drive partition a little or even to the full amount, I get an error:
    "Partition failed with error:
MediaKit reports partition (map) too small"
I've tried updating to 10.5.2, OS is totally up to date, and have tried starting up from Leopard install disk and using Disk Utility on that to try and increase partition, but all with same error.
Not sure if related, but when I try fix permissions, there are a few unfixed problems regarding ACL's (?), but no other issues.

I am having the same problems on 10.5.2. I have a maxtor onetouch 500gb, I reformatted it to work with time machine, and the partition on the disk is only 382.4gb, with a lot of grey space showing up. When I try to expand the Onetouch partition or create a new partition to fill in the space, it keeps giving me
"MediaKit error: size of disk too small" or something along those lines!

    Valli,
I don't think you understood my post, above:
Can you please create an application that shows the problem on apex.oracle.com? Then we'll be able to see all your code together with the database tables, etc.
If you do not have a workspace you can request one.
Please request a workspace on apex.oracle.com. After your workspace request is approved, create an application there that shows this problem you are having. Create the necessary tables, packages, and other database objects in the database to support the example.
As the last step, post here the workspace name, the application ID, and detailed instructions explaining how to use your application to demonstrate the problem.

  • Simulation interrupts, error:timestep too small, trouble with node. Solution?

Evaluating Multisim, a simple half bridge inverter, using function generator to control IGBTs, scopes and current probes. Simulation starts and interrupts shortly. The error message is: Timestep too small, time=xxxx, timestep=yyyy, trouble with node zzzz.
Can anyone give me some idea please, what is going on here,  am I doung something wrong or this is software/model bug?
Simulation is unstable, even when it works, if I change the point where I sense the current or voltage, or component value, it fails.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jordan,
Thanks for advise, but connecting the terminal to ground does not solve the problem. The problem is not in the circuit but in the software. You can see that the simulatiion worked for several periods, so the circuit is OK. Please tell me, what is the exact meaning of the error message, "timestep too small"? Why is the software working for one value of the component and not for another value? My interpretation is that when software encounters some values during calculations that it does not like for some reason, it gives this message without properly defining the problem so that the user can take practic action to rectify it. Are there any settings which I must define before starting the simulatioin, like sampling rate or anything that would eliminate "timestep too small" message?
I am evaluating the simulator software to make a decision whether it is practically useful for the company to purchase. If 8 out of 10 times the result of simulation is an incomprehensible error message instead of a waveform, then I have to assume that the software is not mature.
    Please advise.
    Best regards,
    Stepan.
