Partition for Win Adobe products

As a mid seventies PC user of 20 years I am making the change to I Mac-hence my first post and cry for help.
As a photographer shooting hundreds per month and spending a great deal of time on post shooting manipulation,I am not sure how to configure my I Mac.
Should I set up Xp in a separate partion and install Lightroom and Photoshop in the same partition?
Or should I install Mac versions of PS and LR and leave the Win partition for those programmes for which there are no Mac equivalents.
Would it be possible to communicate easily between PS and LR if one was installen on the Mac Partition and the other on the Win partition?
Any Pearls of Wisdom gratefully received;

What you can run on Mac, run on Mac. There's no real point in making the switch if you're still going to use Windows. You'll find they'll do the same things. As you've suggested, leave Windows, for Windows only apps.
Depending on what you do in Windows you may want to consider virtualisation vs bootcamp, as if you don't need to utilise the full hardware you'll have a better experience running Windows virtualised.

  • "Adobe updater" for all Adobe products

    Hello,
it would be realy nice to have a "Adobe Updater" for all Adobe Products.
At the momemt Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Photoshop Elements, ... has their own updater, but some Adobe products have still no auto updater.
So please create one updater for all products.

I can speak only for Windows systems and there I currently know:
    - Air
    - Shockwave Player
For Photoshop Elements (as example) there exist already the "Adobe Application Manager".
Flash/Shockwave Player, Adobe Reader and Air should be also updated via "Adobe Application Manager".
There it should be possible to set for each application, if we want also beta updates if available or not.

  • How large a partition for Win-based programs?

I have a 500 GB hard-drive, and plan on creating a partition to run Win XP or Win 7 and the following Win-based programs: QuickBooks Pro, Quicken '09, Family Tree Maker, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and Business Plan Pro. Any suggestions as to how large I should make this partition? It seems to me that the largest files I create on my notebook are with the OSX-based programs, suggesting a smaller partition might be adequate. Thanks.

I think it depends on your usage of those programs and the programs running under OSX. How much data will you create and store within each partition? It will be very deficult for us to guess your usage.
I have a 500GB drive that I partitioned half and half after reviewing what my usage would be. Do an analysis of your usage and storage requirements.

  • Create Exclusive Font Family/Grouping for Photoshop/Adobe Products.

Hi, I'm new to using fonts as groupings for decals and dingbats.
I'm using a specific set on a lot of projects. I looked in the help but I could find out how to group fonts into a set, or font family.
I've been doing it the slow way, typing in the name and searching through but with 21+ sets it's time consuming remembering the names and which ones belong in each set.
Atm I just write the groupings down with pen and paper to save time.
Hope someone is nice enough to share this simple trick.
    Cheers,

  • Are patches for the adobe suites included in ZCM patch managment?

yes it does, the logic's still the same, deep-down, it's just that at
the moment, there doesn't seem to be enough of a business case to
recode the PDK for the ZCM-style architecture. For those of us still
running standalone ZPM, the PDK still works, and since the patch logic
is the same, i can use it to see what's in the ZCM patches...

thanks Shaun. Makes me feel better.
I'll submit an RMS request for the Adobe products. Given that Adobe now surpassed MS in terms of vulnerabilities I think it's a poor decision on Novell's part to NOT patch the "paid for" Adobe stuff like Acrobat Standard, Pro, etc.
Especially when Adobe 9 incorporated Flash and "Acrobat" together.

  • Any known viruses/malware that target Photoshop or Adobe products in general?

In 2006 I got a virus via the Internet and have been very leery about viruses and privacy ever since.
Are there any viruses/malware known to target Photoshop or Adobe products in general?

    I currently use Avast Pro.
What is recommended in system maintanance for Photoshop/Adobe products?
    Thank you.

I will second Marian here, just make sure your Flash and/or Acrobat/Acrobat Reader are kept up-to-date, as well as your AV Security Suite, and your OS of course, with security updates. No system is 100% secure, not Mac, not Windows, not Linux etc, but by making sure you install all relevant security updates, have your AV products "Heuristic scanning" mode running, and carry out regular full system scans, you'll have done all that you can to keep the nasty stuff out!

  • Photoshop CS5 installs on Win 8.1, but won't update.  the error says, ""This serial number is not for a qualifying product..." when installing an upgrade or upsell".  PS CS5 12.0  is too downlevel to work on canon raw

I have contacted adobe CusServ 5 times.  Each time I get a different answer.  One even went so far as giving me a new, full product serial number which still would not allow updates to be applied.  Their only solution is to pay for the "cloud".  I don't need the "cloud".  My CS5 does everything I need and has worked great up until my computer died.  It was running win7 ultimate.  My new computer runs win 8.1.  Not the pro version.  Should I go to Corel, maybe they are more helpful?  Help please!
I have looked at the other similar issues here and the answers are all similar.  1)Contact CS agent.  Useless, they say come here to the forum.  2)apply SN from previous product.  Did that and loaded CS4 also.  No help.  3)Get a new serial number.  got a new SN for a full product from one of the CS agents.  Same problem.
I have deactivated, activated.  I have uninstalled and re-installed several times.  The CS agents I have spoken to were useless, the only way I could get them to try anything was to suggest that the problem was beyond their competency.  I refuse to pay $30 a month for the functionality I have all ready purchased.  Adobe is degenerating.  I hope more people reject the "cloud" concept.

    Hi Guys,
Ive got the same problems as you, Win XP SP2 on RAID 1 hard disk set on an AMD raid controller, but I have no driver to roll-back to.
Ive installed Photoshop CS3 and also Acrobat Standard 8 (which used to run fine on an old system), but all i get now is the blank window with the menu and title bar and thats all.
Can some one help?  (will this licensing patch resolve the issue - and where can i get it from?)
    Thanks

  • What adobe products to use for interactive map?

    Hello you Adobe Experts!
I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I am interested in developing/designing a tactical map for competitive gaming and I was wondering what adobe products would help me best. I have a decent amount of experience with Fireworks. The map will be a web application and should be interactive for the user experience. Could anyone weigh in on this question? It would help me out a lot if I knew what path I should go. Thanks!
    Andy

Sorry for not being very descriptive. I would want the map very interactive, almost to the sense of everything on the map will be affected by user interaction.
For example, a user scrolls over a zone and it lights up & once clicked upon, the zone will display information somewhere. The map will be a "fight for control" like a domination set up, and the way it would work is that a team (Team A) would control Zone A and Team B controls Zone B. Well, Team A decides to challenge their neighboring zone (Which is Zone B) to a match. (In some FPS game). Whoever wins the match, will obtain control of that zone. I know this is a lot of stuff to take in. But, I'm just curious to see others ideas on what technologies they would use to design something like this.
    Thanks.

  • Migrating to Fedora (Linux) - Will Adobe products work well in WINE?

I am doing a big change to my systems and OS's, I see that Linux will do what I need. I am finding options for my other Apps, but I would prefer to continue using my Adobe products (they are not my main Apps). Do Adobe products work well in WINE environment? I am also looking at a crossover app that works in a virtual machine.
Thanks for any help or direction.

Migrating software programs from one machine or HD seldom works.  You need to actually *install* software from downloads or installation disks.  You don't mention which product ver you have.
Run the CS or CC Cleaner Tools below to wipe all traces of Adobe products from your HD.  Then re-install the customary way.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Typically you only need to deactivate if you had previously installed your products on 2 machines.  Creative Cloud software installed on a 3rd machine will deactivate the previous installations.

You will need to apply for both Reader and Flash Player Distribution agreements if you intend on enterprise deployments of these products.

  • Solution for intermittent use of a single Adobe product?

I may be a unique case, because I do not want or really need all of the products that Adobe provides my for $30/month. Here is my dilemma:
I use Adobe illustrator infrequently, sometimes intensively for a month or so, but then I will not use it for the better part of a year. This is how I use the application.
So, I'm feel that being financially penalized for continuing to use Illustrator, since I pay for it every single month of my life, but use it infrequently. For example, if I use the program 20 times in 10 years (which is about how I do use it), then I am paying (according to the current student deal which I am sure will change in the coming 10 years time), $3600.00 over the course of 10 years to use the program 20 times. That works out to $180.00 per use.
Obviously I am not in good conscience able to renew my subscription with Adobe, and would have ended it earlier were it not for the severe financial penalty Adobe imposes on users for breaking a subscription contract before its official expiration.
Before I go, I just wonder if Adobe has any care for users such as myself. I know one unsatisfactory response already: I can by the full version, not get incremental updates, and will need to pay full price for each major upgrade. That's a bad deal too. How can a infrequent user of a single Adobe product (Illustrator) use the application for a reasonable amount of money? I don't need every Adobe product under the sun nor do I like the fact that somewhere in Adobe's hierarchy they think that is some kind of advantage to users. To me, that is product bloat, bordering on spam marketing. If I want a sip of water, I have to drink from the fire hydrant. This is so bone-headed.
I suppose, overall, I will advise my students to use what software the company they work for uses. But as far as a personal graphics package for independent work, I cannot recommend Adobe products anymore because of this pricing scheme, which really does penalize people who only use a product one in a while. But before I go, am I missing something? Is my assessment of this dilemma on target? I know I can no longer afford Adobe products, but I also want to advise my students in a way that is fair to them. Currently I am working on a module that shows all of the vector mapping graphics programs and breaks them down according to their feature set and cost for the user.
I've been using Adobe Illustrator for over two decades, and I will be sad to not have it available to me in the future, but this new business model and pricing structure no longer makes sense for me. Yes, considering the time and energy I've put into the program this is an emotional decision, but ending my relationship with Adobe is the healthy choice. It's like walking away from an abusive relationship of the passive-agressive variety. Adobe, what a drag!

On the face of it, the $30 for every monthly use seems like it might be a good solution for intermittent users. But, as a designers, I think many of us might like to take a brief look at an idea (sometimes just for the fun of it.) And so, if during one month I want to take a peek at some of my work with no real intention of doing any work, I would need to pay $30 to look at my own work. This kind of situation creates a kind of "double bind" for me. It's an uneasy feeling, having a kind of oppressive effect on the creative flow of ideas. Consider this case scenario: "I think I can improve that logo I did last summer. I wonder what this change would look like?" Well, to find out that will be $30.00. For me, that's an uncomfortable position. Again, thanks for the thoughtful reply.

  • Looking for the correct Adobe product

Not sure if I’m in the right forum, but here’s what I’m needing. I want to be able to create some user forms that will contain basic client information entered into text boxes, and will also contain check boxes and drop down boxes for selection of types of services needed. I would like there to be and a command button able to clear the content (reset) those text boxes, and have a second ‘clear all’ button that would completely reset or clear the form for the next entry, so as to minimize the risk of errors due to info left over from the previous entry. I would also like to set up a tab index for those text boxes (and other controls) so they can be scrolled through with the tab key for ease of data entry. Examples include client name, phone, date of birth, company, SSN. It would be great if the SSN could be in three fields so after the first 3 digits are entered, then the curser automaticly moves to the next 2 digit field, then to the last 4 digit field. Even better would be an error check, so that the form could not be completed of saved until the correct number of digits are entered.
Some of the forms would be printed only, others emailed in .pdf format so that the content could not be changed by the recipient. This can be done with MS Word utilizing activex controls and then saving as a .pdf, or using VB forms for the printable versions that are not to be emailed, but the thing is the if users are still having to save as .pdf files anyway it would make sense to use an Adobe tool to create them (I think). I’m thinking maybe Adobe Acrobat is the tool that could do this, but since have no experience with any other Adobe products besides Photoshop I just don’t know. I’m hoping someone can help educate me on this and hopefully help me make the correct selection. Thanks.

thanks! my next step was to try and download the 30 day trial and give it a spin, but unable to download. not sure what's up with that. I have DSL
