Partition greater that 1 Tb on an Intel  MacPro 3.1

I have a 2 TB drive in this computer. I tried to partition it into a 1.5 Tb partition and a 0.5 Tb partition (approximately). Disk utility would not let me create a partition greater than 1 Tb. Is there any way to create these partitions? Using ML 10.8.4.

Is this a new empty drive or is there content already on it?
Sorry to ask basics but if you select 2 partitions from the dropdown, you have then tried to drag to resize by dragging the handle between the 2 partitions up or down (the little dot between the boxes)?

  • Problems with other programs that run bad in processor intel

Hello my friends I bought one mac mini Intel Core duo to optimize my work like designer, but programs like Adobe photoshop, indesing Cs, give me problems and it is put very slow. I have in my office a Powerpc G5 of 1,6 uni processor and have installed same programs. Why they run very slow in mini mac if it has a double processor?

They are running slowly because none of the Adobe products have yet been released in a format native to the Macs with Intel processors. Adobe's applications are all still only native to the PowerPC processor and so must run in the Rosetta PPC emulation mode, which is much slower than native software. Unfortunately, you'll have to live with this until Adobe releases Intel-native versions of their Mac software, currently not scheduled for release until some time in mid-2007.
The same will apply to any other software you have; if it's not what Apple calls a Universal Binary which has the programming code for both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs, it's going to run more slowly than would software that's native to the Intel processors. Check with the application's developer about the availability of an Intel-native version.

  • Need hints for Optimizing Photoshop CS4 on Leopard / Intel MacPro

Just wondering if anyone had any hints for optimizing PS CS4 performance on Intel MacPro ( I have the 2.66 Dual-core Xeon) My MacPro has the upgrade ATI 1900 video card which I think is GL enabled. From what I have read CS4 now accesses the ATI 1900's GPU memory for increased performance. Is this correct? Does anything need to be configured or does CS4 automatically detect the ATI 1900 GPU?
Any other configuration in CS4 that need to be set?
    Thanks.

Open Photoshop's preferences (Command+K). Click on Performance at the left. The lower right portion of the settings will say if PS detected a compatible video card. If it did, the check box for "Enable OpenGL Drawing" will already be on.
The features that OpenGL drawing adds to PS are listed here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404898
That may help you decide whether or not you want it on. Personally, I turned it off. One big reason for me is paths. I have to create a LOT of paths for client work. With OpenGL on, paths can be difficult to downright impossible to see as you draw them, depending on the color of the underlying pixels. With OpenGL off, PS uses the standard complementary contrasting colors. Much easier to use.

  • Any Idea if a  first Gen. Intel MacPro 2.66 Xeon Dual Core running SL will run CS5 in 64 BIT mode?

    Hi,
I have a Intel MacPro first Generation Dual 2.66 Xeon processor machine running Snow Leopard and I was wondering if it will be able to run PS CS5 in 64 Bit mode or does it have to be a later generation MacPro?

Bennett, I'm afraid that I don't know the answer to your question. But hopefully someone will happen along to at least give you some help, instead of answering your question with three questions of their own. Hang in there!
The original question was 'answered' with questions because the original question was so odd. CS5 has not been announced so no one can state what it can do. This is not rocket science about software that has not been released yet. If someone knows the answer to the question, they are not allowed to say anything yet. This is how prerelease Adobe software is handled.

  • Setting up dual ethernet on an intel macpro server

Hello. I am new to the server setup and was wondering....I am using an intel MacPro as a server with a 3.5TB raid. I am using the MacPro as a server, connecting to a 24-port SMC switch which will feed 15 workstations. The internet is through a local T-1. My question is this....How do I configure the Macpro to take the T-1 into ethernet #1, and then out of ethernet #2 to the switch and distribute it using the DHCP service in server admin? I know how to configure the DHCP in server admin, but how do I configure the Ethernet ports on the macpro so ethernet port 1 is the T-1 and ethernet port#2 is sending the T-1 to the switch? Sorry if I am confusing you, like I said, I am new to this. Hope there is some insight available. Tahnks in advance for your assistance.

I wouldn't recommend this because most people who do this have the 'server' running not just NAT, but probably their web site, a file server, maybe directory server, and just about every other server daemon they want.
If this server has one leg in the public internet and one in the private LAN you're leaving yourself open to exposing those services to external users.
It is not possible to use Apple's GUI tools to restrict all the file sharing services to the internal LAN only. It's also not possible to use Apple's GUI to block external traffic via the firewall. This means that, out of the box, any internet user could hit your AFP server, your directory server, and every other service you're running on this box.
It is possible to secure the box, but it means a) getting under the hood and controlling the various services manually and b) never using Server Admin again because it will likely undo all the hand-crafted configuration changes you made.
If you're fine with that, then go ahead. Most people aren't. So your options are to run only the NAT service on this box (which makes this box a VERY expensive NAT device), or leave yourself exposed.
That's why I say to use a NAT router to do that task. For $50 you get a box that designed for that task and will secure your entire internal network. You can use port forwarding to permit specific incoming traffic through to your server (so you can still do what you want), and you don't have to worry (as much) about what information on the server is accessible to the outside world.

  • Partition and install Leopard 10.5 on Intel Mac Pro

    Hi,
I've just taken the plunge and dumped my PC in favour of a Mac Pro(details below).
    MacPro2.4 8CX/6X1G/ 1TB/5770/SD
I've successfully created a BootCamp partition and have Windows XP up and running.
I now want to (need to) creat a partition in order to install a previous version of the Mac OS (10.5). This is required in order to install drivers that will allow me to link up with my Yamaha 01X (Yamaha have decided not to update their mlan drivers for anything above Mac OS 10.5... and I have Snow Leopard 10.6.7...
I've spoken to the Mac support teams and have received mixed messages ranging from "Yes, you can create a partition and install 10.5" to "No no no... that'll never work".
I'm sure there must be a way to achieve this (I mean - If I can have Windows XP up and running on my Mac surely I can create a partition and have a previous version running...).
    So far I have:
Created a GUID partition, attempted to re-boot from the install disk (holding the C key). This hangs on the grey screen with apple logo.
I've also attempted to boot from the disk in safe mode (Holding the shift key). Hangs on the grey screen-apple log.
I've had the Mac OS (10.5) installed onto a external drive and attempted to boot from that (Hangs).
Is there something I am missing? Any help, guidance would be welcomed (unless it's along the lines of re-format and build from scratch as, let's face it, that isn't an useful option).
To re-cap: All I want to do is create a partition on my Mac-Pro and install Mac OS 10.5. I am not looking to replace my existing OS (10.6.7) with 10.5, just have a separate partition.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Grant,
Thanks for assisting me with this.
My Mac has Two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere” (8 cores)
This link takes you to the full spec/ configuration:
    http://store.apple.com/us_smb_78313/configure/MC561LL/A?mco=MTg2OTUwMTk
The retail version of Leopard that I'm attempting to install is: 10.5.6 so, I'm assuming, the install should work??
Is there anything I should check/ do prior to installing? (as every time I try the DVD spins and then halts - it's like it's trying to do something but can't).
Any pointers would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks again,
    D.

  • Partition Question:  Can I Make One HD Intel & PPC Bootable?

    Hello,
I bought an OWC FireWire external drive to use as a bootable repair drive. My plan was to partition it in half and then make the first partition bootable on an Intel and then make the second partition bootable on PPC Macs.
So, when I try to do this (via Disk Utility), I discover that I can't choose a partition scheme for each individual partition. Instead I have to choose one scheme for both partitions. GUID apparently boots Intel Macs and Apple Partition Map boots PPC Macs. Is there a way to do what I want to do, and if so, then how? Many thanks!

Some confusion here. "I kept all of the drives as one partition" doesn't make any sense. You have partitions on a drive - not the other way round.
    •  Each partition of a drive is a separate volume with its own icon on the desktop.
    •  Every drive has partitions, even if only one! Another way of saying that is to say that no partitions means one partition.
In Disk Utility if you select the drive, and not an indented volume beneath it, you will see the 'Partition' tab appear and in that tab you will see the "Options…" button which gives you the choice of partition scheme. That applies whether the drive has one partition (aka "no partitions"!) or multiple partitions.
    =-=-=-=-
Your drives do not need to be re-zeroed. What you should do with all drives is occasionally (interpret that according to degree of carefulness /anxiety /paranoia)) run a 'surface scan' to check that no additional bad blocks have appeared, which is a warning to immediately get rid of that drive.

  • How do I delete a partition so that I recover the disk space?

I partitioned my terabyte hard drive to run Mavericks (as well as Yosemite). I followed the Genius instructions from the local store and used Disk Utility to delete Macintosh HD Mavericks. The Disk Utility message said the partition was deleted but it is still there. Only Mavericks was deleted, not the partition. So I have over 600 GB there empty. How do I make that disk space available to Yosemite?

    MikaelK:
Are you deleting the photos from the Main library section of iPhoto or from inside an album? If it's from an album you must use the CommandOptionDelete key combination followed by emptying the iPhoto trash.
If you did delete the photo from the main library then I'm as in the dark as Lori.

  • Optimizer_feature greater that compatible

    Hi,
    I came across a database with optimizer_feature_enabled = 11.2.0.2 and compatible = 10.2.0.4
    Will this even work?
When I've ever used optimizer_feature_enabled I've always had compatible greater then optimizer_feature_enabled.
The reason why I ask this question is that I have two test databases witch is configured differently one with compatible and optimizer_feature_enabled the same and one with optimizer_feature_enabled greater then compatible. There has been reports of better performence on the database with lower compatible.

    >
As Srini said - yes - it will work.
Whether you want to have this mismatch depends on your use case.
You may now (with 11.2.0.2) be using optimization that isn't available in the 10.2 version and that can be good or bad depending on the queries that you use.
When a database is upgraded the 'optimizer_feature_enabled' parameter will default to the value for the new DB version. Many organizations will perform an upgrade but use settings for both parameters for the older DB version to try to minimize unexpected issues and problems.
Then when things seem to run ok the 'compatible' flag will be changed to the new DB version and they will be looking for any problems that are introduced by doing that.
The same thing applies to the optimizer parameter. Whenever you change either parameter you should have a 'rollback' plan in place in case unexpected issues arise. That means only changing them after you have a known, good backup for recovery.

  • It is great that muse lets me design without code; it'd be better if I could install it to my comput

Wow, you graphics and promotional emails look fantastic. I am really curious about Muse. What a great promise. I hope I get to use it at some point. After almost two hours of computer efforts to install this magestic breakthrough cloud software, here I am... looking at the candy store window...
Also, I hope I get my computer tip top as it was before I gave in to temptation

I am sorry for the previous sarcasm, but I was very frustrated. I held myself, but the problematic install continued.
The most aggravating factor of this scenario is that you are promoting Muse as no need to be technical, but just to install it, I've had to look for answer in forums, install, uninstall, use Cloud clear software, restore points, etc. The get go to get muse requires the patience and attention that a technical person has. Is this not a terrible opening for the experience?
I finally got it installed, and I look forward to playing with it.

  • Media Encoder Greater that 7.0 does not recongnise SD footage with correct pixel aspect ratio

    Hello,
I logged this bug with Adobe last year but even through the latest releases the bug still remains and is a real issue for anyone editing in SD via Premiere Pro CC.
Effectvely when you create a PAL sequence within Premiere Pro CC using SD 720x576 pixels (4:3) you have 2 options to export, either Queue or Export. If you export the footage directly from the PP application to MPEG2 SD then the resulting files are perfect, however if you use the queue option and send it to Media Encoder then the resulting files are incorrectly interpreted and the resulting file looks squashed. I suspect the Media Encoder is defaulting to Square pixels and not 1.09xx which is the default for PAL SD 4:3
The issue only started on Media Encoder version 7.1 but I also checked 7.2 and this still has the bug.
I can't believe this is not effecting a lot of people and its taking so long to resolve. Adobe at the time acknowledged the issue but did not provide a time scale to fix.
If anyone has any words of wisdom I would love to hear from you. Maybe I am missing a simple workaround ?? Which could be to just export and NOT queue, however because I use the batch function a lot this is not always viable.
    thanks
    Steve

    Hi Tom,
thanks for the quick response. I'll attach two screenshots -- one from PP and one from AME, both showing the same test chart, but distorted in AME.
    Basically the given parameters are:
    Sequence is D1/DV PAL, 720x576, PAR 1.0940, framerate 25
Export settings are: MXF OP1a, resolution + framerate same as sequence, IMX 50 PAL.
If you still require the preset file, I'll send that separately.
    all the best
    Daniel
