Partition resize - i made a mistake, any suggestions...

I came in to work this morning and acted without thinking. Here's what happened:
This guy has a mac book pro, partitioned with bootcamp:
Mac OS 10.5.2=100GB,
Windows XP service pack 2=100GB
He asked me to repartition it, if possible without formating. So, after briefly asking a colleague, i went into disc utility, fiddled round with the partitioning scheme / slider, it indicated that it was possible, said 'no volumes would be erased'. Didn't work when trying to make the Mac partition bigger, so tried to make the Windows partition smaller.
It came up with a negative value, we took a chance that it was just going to reduce the size........Anyway, now the windows partition has disappeared. Rebooted, no luck, doesn't appear at all in disc utility, it's missing.
In Terminal:
cd /volumes
ls -al
just reveals Macintosh HD.
I downloaded refit.sourceforge.net which reported this:

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to bring this Windows partition back?

Thanks xnav, i checked out that utility, which looks really good, and free. I didn't manage to get to it to fix the partition, maybe it would have done the job if i had more time. I'll have to read up on it's capabilities so i'm ready next time.
Luckily the owner of the laptop can live with loosing/recreating the windows partition.

I just noticed that one of the restore methods you posted was to put it into Disk Mode First rather than just use the resstore straight off, I Have tried that and seems to have solved the problem, If it has thank you. previously I have only tried just restoring it skipping this extra step. Hope my iPod stays healthy, if it doesnt its a warrenty job me thinks any way thanks again -
I have always single clicked to open mail. Now I have to double click. I have not touched preferences or made changes. Any suggestions?
From where are you launching Mail? The only place, unless I've missed or forgotten something, you can launch an application with a single click is from the Dock. Is this what you're doing, or are you attempting to launch Mail from the Applications folder?

I made a mistake of trying to put 5.0.1 beta 1 firmware on my ipod touch 3rd gen ( non-registered) unsuccessfully. Now the ipod doesn't work at all with any public firmware. Any suggestions?
You can try putting the iPod into Recovery Mode and restoring it:

Your Quicken files should already be in the correct format. Can't remember details because I converted some time ago and no longer have my old files.
Can't understand your comment about being left "high and dry." It's been common knowledge for six months that Lion won't support PPC applications and it's been common knowledge for several years that Intuit is abandoning the Mac.
I will warn you that, even if you are able to convert now, the conversion does produce errors. -
I used a partitioned HDD for time machine, using a partition already containing other data files. I am now no longer able to view that partition in Finder. Disk Utility shows it in grey and "not mounted". Any suggestions of how to access the files? Does using time machine mean that that partition is no longer able to be used as it used to be?
HDD is a Toshiba 1TB, partitioned into two 500GB partitions.

I made the mistake of resetting my iPod to factory defaults. Now it will only partially sync to my music library. I continually get an error message saying that certain songs are not authorized for my computer, although they are in the iTunes library on the computer and will play. It's these songs that won't transfer to the iPod. I have deauthorized and re-authorized the computer but no joy. Any ideas?

I was thinking that some of the songs in your library may have been purchased under a different apple id. You have already done the first thing I would have done by de authorizing and re authorizing. To verify this, highlight one of the songs that will not sync over and use File>Get Info. In the Summary section there will be an Apple ID entry. If it shows something different than what you are currently using then I recommend signing into the Apple ID it shows and authorizing the computer for that one as well.

my iPhone 4 will no longer charge. It is also not recognised in iTunes. There seems to be a problem with the connector slot. I've tried other cables and other computers/plugs but the connection is not being made. Any suggestions?

Hi. I just got the iPhone 6, plugged into itunes and made the mistake of putting an OLD back up on my new phone resulting in losing all contacts after 2013. They are not saved on the cloud. Is there any way to go back to before I screwed up?
If you have performed a sync with the device since you restored this old backup, then don't bother looking for another backup. iTunes writes over the last backup each time you sync. If you were handling contacts in iCloud, you would find them by logging into iCloud. Or you can check settings and iCloud and see if the button it on for Contacts. Otherwise it might have been on the computer, if you had a program that syncs with iTunes and handles contacts, depending on the computer system you use. If Windows, it would be Windows Contacts or Outlook. If a Mac, there is a Mac Address book as well.

I have acquired a macintosh 950 computer made in approximately 1995, which powers up just fine, except that I cannot get the system to recnogise a keyboard and mouse. Any suggestions would be helpfull!!

Last night iTunes on my PC tried to run an update. Prior to the update, it was working perfectly. At the end of the update I got an error message R6034, an application has made an attempt to load the C runtime Library incorrectly. Any suggestions? I have also gotten a message that iTunes is not installed correctly, to reinstall. Reinstalling give the the same two errors over and over. Restarting my computer does nt help.

I just changed i Pads and i cloud was working great on all the devices I had it on including my PC now it just keeps asking me to verify my password and I know I have not made a mistake and I don't have ICloud on any of the devices at present help!!!!!

I have tried EVERY suggestion Adobe has made and no matter what, I get the black "Adobe Reader Installer" screen EVERY TIME!! Any suggestions to help me overcome this problem would be appreciated. BTW: I have a Windows 7 Home OS. I prefer FireFox. I cannot install the latest version of iTunes on my laptop (windows xp). I receive a windows installer error. Am not having any problem installing other software or syncing w iPhone. Made the mistake today of uninstalling my older version and not cannot install new. Need new version in order to sync w new iPad.
Any help would be appreciated.Apparently, security programs like Macafee and Norton view Itunes updates as new programs and block then from access. If you add Itunes to the list of exemptions, it solves the problem.
