Partitioning Scenarios Please...

Dear Gurus,
Can you please explain me at what situation we have to go for partitioning.  I feel i have good amount of knowledge on partitioning.  But i dont know when will we get the necessity to partition an info cube.
As many of u would have gone through this kind of a situation many times.  Please tell me atleast one of that situation.
Best Regards
Mohan Kumar

Mohan Kumar,
The very Purpose for data base partitioning is to improve the perfomance for the queries whose data retrival is based on the time scale. That means these queries retrives data based on 0CALMONTH (CALENDER MONTH) or 0FISCPER (FISCAL PERIOD), accordingly data base is partitioned as database creates separate tables for these periods/months So whenever queries retrieves the data it directly hits table for perticilar period/month which u have considered for query selection.
If u don't use partition then query has to churn out all the data then it locates the required time period and then start to structurise the result.
Thus using partition u reduce the time taken by the system to locate ur perticular time data, thus improving the performance.
Hope this will quench ur thurst on info about the partitioning.
Kindly assign the points if it works.

Hi, I have macbook Pro, running Leopard OS X. I partitioned my hard drive a while ago to install windows and only allowed myself 10 Gig of data. I deleted windows after i realised i wasnt enjoying using it at all and wasted my hard drive. I now decided that i want another OSX on there instead yet i have only allowed myself 10 gb on the partition. I have ben thru some programms but am struggling on making this partition bigger.
I only want it at 20gb but cant seem to make the partition bigger, only smaller or split it into further partition.
Is there a way to do this, i have all installation discs from original OSX so think this could help.
Any help please would be fantastic.
    Thanks Chris

Hi, dragging the partition will only make smaller, not larger. In disk utility you can only split or make smaller the partitions. Yes i booted from installation disks also but still no help.
And Brody, I am willing to erase the disc completely, infact jus started doing a backup in order to do so but that failed also. And the information you gave on partition a hard drive, Although very simple and i already know how to do this, but it wont let me make the partition bigger, and i dont want to make a new partition, just enlarge the one i already have, which i dont see possible from disk utility.
Getting really frustrated now, even backing up is saying no to me. **** external being a douche.
I dont mind erasing the hard drive but surely this must be doable without deleting the secondary partition back t a single volume, and re partitioning into 2 volumes again.
    Thanks again

  • Replication scenario (please answer)

We have 96 table in one oracle User and we want to replicate them in bidirectional way, 4-5 tables use for logging and we don't want to replicate them.
which scenario do you suggest to me:
1- Use schema base capture, apply and prevent logging tables to replicate with rule and Tag ?
If yes please tell me how can I restrict some tables in schema to don't replicate.
2- Use table base capture, apply and write it for all necessary table (HUGE work for about 90 tables :( ).
I prefer first one but I don't know how to exclude some tables from schema to don't capture and/or apply.

Do a table level capture and schema level Prop and Apply. That way you filter out the tables in capture level itself and you avoid the second filter again in Prop and Apply level.

Use J1IEX transaction and use the EWPO transaction type to capture the transaction. Also please remember that EWPO accepts only Goods receipt via MM process and not SD process in the Standard scenario so please ensure that it is allowed for other types as well. Any ABApper should be able to help you on this. There is a SAP note on this so please check it out as well.

  • Unable to repair disk (Partition map) Please HELP !

    Hi,
I have the weirdest problem with my 15" retina macbook pro.
Earlier today, OS X automatically rebooted after some kind of bug. I was then unable to start the computer, wether it was through recovery or as usual.
Started in Safe mode, Backed up with time machine, and restored system.
I'm now able to boot as usual but when I launch Disk Utility, I detects an error. Please find DU log at end of this message.
When I click Repair Disk, I continuously get the same error message (this disk needs to be repaired).
Any ideas how I can get this error fixed ?
    Thanks so much !

  • CAC complex scenarios - please help!!!

I have read the CAC section of the SRND and I think I'm still confused on certain sections of the document. Would greatly appreciated anyone help on this :-)
Just assume RSVP is not a feasible option for now...
    Re: Diagram 1
    i) In this scenario, how many CCM clusters would you have & why? Would you put a cluster to each hub and remote site (i.e. to all sites)?
Ii) If each site has it's own cluster, how many GK would you use and why?
    Re: Diagram 2
Iii) Assume it is a "Centralized model" where the HO hosts the only CCM cluster, do you see any problems in terms of CAC?
Iv) What would you configure for the location for the Non-GK controlled trunk between hub office (site D) & HO (site G)?
    V) Do you ever configure any locations for the HO site? Or just leave the HO phones and HO Intercluster trunk as "none"?
Vi) Say if site A makes 7 calls to site B, and if site C also makes 8 calls to site B simultenously, can site B still call HO? I think the answer is no. Location CAC is not really designed to support multi-tier environment? anything we can do to fix this problem if the scenario has to be in Centralized model?
(N.B:- I have changed the location to be 'number of calls' rather than 'bandwidth' for simplicity)
    Re: Diagram 3
Vi) In the centralized model,.If we have to reserve a certain bandwidth along all links end-to-end by RSVP, how is that differenet from using CAC? Don't we still need to over-pump the links? Say if a certain path along the RSVP path reserves 60 calls, wouldn't we need to RSVP for 60 calls through the whole path just like CAC?
    Re: Diagram 4
Vii) For Tail End Hop off, assume all the voip dial peer has been setup on all the VGs, and the Route Pattern at Centralized CCM has been setup to point to the local VG (at site G) as Route List. But If the bandwidth between the hub (site D) & HO (site G) are all used up, but I want the user at site H to still be able to call the PSTN, can I use AAR in this scenario?
    Thanks!

    Hi thisisshanky,
    Re: Case 1 (Diagram 5)
    i) At Hub (site D), shall the 'locations' for the 3 x Non-GK intercluster trunk be left as 'none'?
ii) For the 'locations' for GK Inter-cluster trunks, shall they be set to 'none' as the traffic passing thru the GK are already being managed by GK already?
iii) If Hub (site D) wants to make 30 calls to site E, F, G & H at any time, would the total interzone bandwidth for ZoneA be 70 calls?
iv) Now, assume Zone B (site E, F, G & H) only needs to make 20 calls in total back to Zone A at any time, but since Zone A needs to make 70 calls as per iii, what should we do at GK?
    bandwidth interzone ZoneA '70 calls'
bandwidth interzone ZoneB '20 calls' (would this restrict ZoneA to only be able to make 20 calls to Zone B?)
    Re Case 2:
Can you please explain more on what problems will be faced since you mentioned it is not a true hub & spoke?
    Re Case 3:
Can anyone else please shed some light on RSVP?
    Re Case 4:
I'm a bit confused between the difference between the following 3 ways of setting up PSTN fallback if WAN bandwidth is insufficient in GK scenario
Say I want to call extn 3xxx on the remote office. The intercluster prefixs are *801, and the PSTN digits for the site is 9231-3xxx.
    Method 1:
Configure a route list that contains two route groups. The first route group contains the intercluster trunk that routes outgoing calls over the IP WAN. Second route group contains the Voice Gateway.
    Method 2:
    Just on the Voice Gateway:
    dial-peer voice 1 voip
    destination-pattern 8013xxx
    session target ras
    preference 0
    dial-peer voice 2 pots
    destination-pattern 092313xxx
    port 1/0:23
    preference 1
    Method 3:
    Use AAR
Another extra Q regarding bandwidth for GK.
According to Cisco SRND, GK uses double the bandwidth as the codec call rate, so...
    G.711 - GK uses 128kbps
    G.729 - GK uses 16kbps
However, this is excluding all Layer 2, IP & RTP overhead... so when i am planning for number of calls, what values should i use as 'bandwidth per call'?
    Cheers,
    Hunt

  • Partition Issue - Please Help

I had 3 partitions on my main hard drive (Macintosh HD, Old Files, Files).  So I tried to delete the "Old Files" partition using the minus (-) button, it said it wouldn't delete the other 2 but after it finished doing that it only left a "disk0s4" partition that is grayed out so I can't repair or mount it.  How can I recover the other partition, the log clearly says it didn't erase the "Files" partition but I can't find it and don't know what happened. Please help.

I don't know if it's a new problem, or part of the ame one, but FWIW here's my story:-
I'd bought a new macbook pro when they first came out, with Tiger installed. I kept it up to date with software updated, but never went as far as putting BootCamp on it. When I got Leopard, I installed it as an update. The system was set up with a single HD (journaled).
Came the time that I wanted to install Boot Camp, I started up the BCA and tried to partition he HD to have a 32GB partition for Windows. BCA refused to partition the disk, saying that 'some files cannot be moved'. SO I backed up, and did a clean re-install of Leopard, but first I went to Disk Utility to create two partitions , one for Mac and one for Windows. Created a 32GB partition called BootCamp at the end of the hard disk.
Stuck the Windows XP Home 2002 (including SP 2, for 'users with windows 95 or earlier, or pcs without windows'. an BCA to start the windows installer. Installation copies all the files to the Windows partition (re-formatted as NTFS) and gets to the bit about 'restarting in 10 9 8... '. Then reboots and says 'hard disk error. press any key to restart.'
I've tried using the 'repair' option on the boot CD. Not as easy as it used to be in NT. I tried a 'fixboot' assuming that the boot sector might be improperly installed, but no change.
Next plan is to get the installer to hard reformat the partition. Any one with any ideas further than this?
    Regards, Andy

  • Partitioning experts please

I know there's been a lot posted on this, but I'm trying to take a short cut and collect it in one place. Can someone answer the following qs for me please. You will be handsomely rewarded (in that coveted notional currency, forum points).
I have an MBP and a 250GB external firewire 800 drive. I want to divide the available memory into:
    (a) main drive
    (b) back up copy of main drive
    (c) media storage (mainly pro tools and FCP files) and
    (d) to be able to boot in Windows as well.
    1. Should I keep the internal intact (use (a)) and partition the external into 3 parts (uses (b), (c), and (d))?
    2. Can I do this effectively and at low risk using OSX bundled applications or do I have to get third party software?
    3. (How) will I be able to boot from the external drive for uses (b) and (d)?
    Many thanks in advance.
    rob

Todd, you certainly can partition the drive and do exactly what you propose. I have a 500GB FireWire drive and have it split into 3 partitions - one for my iMac, one for my BlackBook and the third is just for odds and ends. You use the included in OS X Disk Utility to do the partitioning.
You can clone your internal drive to the FW drive using any number of programs. I like SuperDuper but it is not free. It is well worth the price as it has some nice features like Smart Update which save a lot of time over doing a full clone each and every time.
Some people use Carbon Copy Cloner and others like LaCie's SilverKeeper, both of which are free, but not as full featured.
Your MBP can boot from both a USB and FW drive jsut like my MB. I am not sure about Windows, but I am pretty sure it can only boot from a USB drive as FW is not nearly as prevalent in PCs as it is in Macs - at least at the time WinXP came out.
To boot your Mac, simply hold down the option key. On my MB, the boot drive select screen comes up in about 3 seconds and you just choose the drive you want to boot from.
    Easy cheesy.

  • Windows8 partitions, explain please?

I've recently got a G505 and, unfortunately, it has Windows 8. I was trying to figure out which partitions are expendable so I can shrink Windows 8 partition, create a partition for Linux and then reinstall Windows 8 first and then Linux, so that I can dualboot.
I have no idea which partitions are expendable though, and which is the one that usually is tied to the warranty.
Here's a screenshot from GParted. Can someone please explain me the purpose of all of these except for /dev/sda5?

I have a feeling that /dev/sda{1,2,3,4} are practically useless, but I would still rather retain the warranty.

Sorry, but your English is all but indecipherable. You may want to try posting in your native language. But again, Apple has never supported downgrading. There have been hacks that allowed it in some cases, but we cannot discuss hacks here.

  • Strange Urgent scenario please help!

    Hello Friends,
I am having one strange problem in InfoCube loading.
I am loading from 0FI_GL_4 extractor to BW InfoCube with full load.
I have start routine  logic in my update rules.I debugged routine several times simulated update from PSA plenty of times.
In debugging and simulation it gives expected results, but when I actually load data to InfoCube it misses some data.
Some data are not showing up in InfoCube.
    Please help with your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    John.

    Ajax,
What do you mean by key of the IS.There is no end routine as this is 3.x
    Jr Roberto,
The records are cuting down in the start routine, I can see it clearly into the monitor.
But the strange thing to notice is when I debugg code for error records it gives right result and when I load actually it cuts some records.
    Thanks for looking into it.

  • HR Interfaces - Real World Scenarios - Please help !

    Hello Folks,
I would appreciate it if someone could give examples of real world scenarios in which XI has been used for HCM (HR) Interfaces. Both from SAP to External as well as Legacy systems. I am not looking so much for technical explanation but more of a high level description of systems involved, the types of data sent/received (payroll master etc). Really looking for real world examples.
For example: Payroll master from SAP HCM to Legacy (?) using so and so idoc etc.
If you all gurus can help, I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Partition problems please help

I am running osx lion, and i had a partion of snow leopard which i just delee via disk utility.  But now i am unable to use that free space on the hard drive.  Can anybosy shead sme light on how to fix this for me?

OK, I see why. You cannot extend a partition UPward. Here's what you can do. Create a new OS X partition in the upper portion. Clone "Steves Mac HD" to the new partition and set it as your default startup disk - open Startup Disk preferences, select the new volume, click on the Restart button.
Now you can delete the old partition from the bottom and extend the remaining partition to the rest of the space. This will take some time but it will solve your problem.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Boot to the Recovery HD. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears.
Select Disk Utility from the main menu.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new volume. Source means the existing "Steves Mac HD" volume

  • Partition problem PLEASE HELP!

Ok So I just got Leopard and decided I was gonna try out boot camp.
I ran the boot camp assistant and set it to 30 gig partition. While it was running it the screen started turning a transparent grey till it filled the whole screen and said you need to restart.
I did and then when I came on it said that the OS quit unexpectedly.
Now I cant find the partition but it says I am using the 30 gigs but...im not and I need to delete it and retry it.
    Thank you

    Matt,
You have a 120 GB drive. Notice, in Disk Utility, that it is listed with a model # 2120. This indicates a 120 GB drive.
Because a 120 GB drive will only yield about 112 GBs, you still have the entire drive available to you. It is possible that the kernel panic you had (that's what you had, BTW) caused some data to be written to the one partition that you do have, thereby using up some of the available space. Do you recall how much free space you had before this incident?
As for the kernel panic itself, it could have been due to an attempt by you to remove the "head room" OS X needs on its startup volume.
