You can create another partition for your media if you like. Your new notebook has more paritions than you think. It is partitioned as a  GPT disk, instead of old school MBR disk, so there are special partitions on the hard disk. In GPT there is no four primary partition limitation.
Invoke the disk management snapin and you will see what I mean.
Follow the instructions on this HP web document to create a new partition.

You must use the Windows formatter to format your Windows partition NTFS. Please be sure you select the Windows partition otherwise you might end up formatting your OS X partition NTFS.

  • Partition Windows On Macbook Pro

I want to partition windows onto my macbook pro so I can download the autodesk inventor software. I figured out that I can create a windows 7 or later install disk but I need the iso image to do so. So what iso image is needed and how can I get it.

You need to buy a retail copy of windows 7. A google search for buy retail windows 7 should turn up a few store that still have them. Or you could use a system builders oem version. Again a google search would be you best option to find a copy to buy.

  • I cannot partition windows 7 and Mac OS X. Some help anyone?

    Hello,
Basically, i am trying to partition Windows 7 with Mac OS X on my Macbook Pro10.6.4 and when i select to partition them, it says:
"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved."
"Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."
I have already backed up my computer and everything I need, but i just don't understand what else to do, because it seems it is already on this Extended (Journaled) volume. Can someone tell me what to do so i can partition it? Thanks

    One word: Restore
    That means ERASE or REFORMAT
You can use Disk Utility RESTORE or SuperDuper
You have files fragmenting the free space and in an area that needs to be used in order to add support for Windows and to set up a Master Boot Record. And it can't.
Free space can't be fragmented. And OS X doesn't consolidate free space. iDefrag can if you boot from another hard drive. There is also iPartition. Not sure of how well they work and features, never bought them.
Now that you have a bootable backup clone or TimeMachine backup, you are ready to reformat. A bootable backup insures your backup is intact and works.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have an Early 2008 Mac Pro. You have the specs that your Mac Pro needs for more memory > https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4433#4 As you can read, that computer should have come with 2 GB of memory.
You can buy memory at OWC or Crucial > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Mac-Pro-Memory#800-memory Those sell compatible memory with all Macs. You can use another memory, but you can be sure that the memory that these brands sell are compatible

Apple does not support resizing Windows partition size as Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions - Apple Support.
Can I resize the Windows partition after installing Windows?
No. Back up your important files, then use Boot Camp Assistant to delete the old partition and create a new one.

Thanks Fred. So I bought Snow Leopard, also installed ALL updates to now 10.6.8
Problem: when I start my Boot Camp (3.0.4) it does not let me use a USB. I have been reading your article that I can be on a later Boot Camp but somehow Apple is not leading me where to actually download this Boot Camp Assistant upgrade.
Keep in mind: every update on Apple about Boot Camp has been .exe which is useless to me since I do not have Windows installed.

  • New partition & windows no longer boots

Hey all, up until now i have had 3 partitions on my drive - Snow leopard, General media and Windows 7. I decided to add a linux partition and made a new partition using disk utility. I boot up to the choose disk screen to install ubuntu to find that windows is no longer an option for boot up, so i deleted the new partition and it still won't boot into windows anymore.
How can i restore the booting function? Doing it with a linux partition too would be preferable but it isn't necessary.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Hi Brad and welcome to Discussions,
    Hi John,
A later done partitioning to add additional partitions to a harddisk alters the position of the BootCamp partition in the partition table so that the Windows Bootloader can not 'find' the Windows partition.
With Windows XP it helped to simply edit the Boot.Ini file and point it to the WIndows partition.
With Vista and Windows 7 there no longer is a boot.ini but EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 can do the same.
One thing to remember though is, that even Vista and Windows 7 'suffer' from the limitation of four partitions on one harddisk immenent to the Master Boot Record (MBR) since Apples EFI/GPT/MBR emulation can not handle Extended Partitions and Logical Partitions inside an Extended Partition.

  • Boot Camp Partition & Windows Vista - Disk format Problems

When Boot camp partitions the disk (I chose 25gb) it automatically formatted it as FAT32. However, when installing Vista, it says that it requires the disk to be formatted as NTFS.
The Boot camp instructions says I should be given the option which format to use, but no option came up. I don't want to partition more than 32gb.
How do I get Boot camp to format the partition correctly?

Read the instructions that come with Leopard Boot Camp. The partition is automatically formatted at FAT32. However, it's a) not bootable (Windows has to do that) and b) Vista requires NTFS. That means once you're in the Vista installer you need to REFORMAT the partition. Select the partition, and then click, umm, disk options I think. Then reformat the drive. If you do that you should be able to continue.

  • Mac Cannot see Windows HDD Partition/ Windows cannot reformat disc?

I have installed boot camp and windows 7 64 bit on my mac pro dual quad core.
    I have 3 drives.
#1 is 1 TB and partitioned in 2 logical drives so that one is windows NTFS and one is Mac. The mac OS does not see the windows drive. In fact it appears in disk manager as UNMOUNTED and FAT when in fact its NTFS.
#2 is the drive that shipped with the mac, partitioned into 2 drives, one which boots windows (bootcamp) and 1 boots OS X. No problems.
The problem is drive #1 holds all my vido from my camcorder so I need the mac to recognize the windows drive and read the data. I copied all the data off of the NTFS partition and tried to format it in Windows. Windows says its "in use". It is not in use since Windows boots from BOOTCAMP on a different physical drive. It won't let me ignore the error, if I try it waits a few seconds and repeats the error.
I tried to erase the partion in disk manager, same issues. Even after the mac erases it into any format (Mac, Fat32, etc...), the Windows disk console will resfuse to format it claiming that its "in use".
    Any ideas?
Anyone else have the same problem? I think it has to do with the hidden 200 MB partitions that windows 7 creates and that the MAC may unintenionally mess with.

I am running Snow Leopard and on my seperate windows 7 machine I can see and connect to my mac. However I cannot get the Mac to connect to the Windows 7 machine. Even home sharing is not working on itunes.
    Can anyone help?
    Maybe
    On the Win7 machine,
    1. Ignore everything to do with Homegroup.
    2. Go > Computer > Users > User; right click on User and chose Share with > Specific people; and Set to share with a specific individual or Everyone—both with Read/Write permission.
    3. Go Control Panel > Network and Sharing Options > Advanced sharing Settings, and Turn on network discovery, Turn on file and printer sharing, Turn off public folder sharing , and Turn off password protected sharing (unless sharing won’t occur without turning it on).
    4. Restart (probably not necessary, but I’d do it).
    On the Sno machine,
    1. Go System Preferences > Sharing > Check File sharing > Go Options > Enable SMB sharing.
    2. Go System Preferences > Network > Select Airport or Ethernet depending on what you are going to be using. I am assuming you will be using wireless below. Let me know if not true.
    3. Having selected Airport, select ask to join new networks and show Airport status in menu bar.
    4. Click advanced > click remember networks this computer has joined > Click Wins > Enter the ip address of your Win7 machine in the WINS server box > Enter the Win7's workgroup name in the workbook box unless it already is there (look in the drop down menu too). In all likelihood the name is workgroup, but check on the Win7 machine.
    5. Restart (probably not necessary, but I’d do it).
Try to connect to your Win7. Use Go menu > Connect to server. In trying to connect, type smb://ipaddress (of the Win7 machine). If, for some reason, you are asked to, input a user name and password, then use you user name and password for the Win7. Don't save anything to Keychain now and actually never for making network connections.

  • Bootcamp: "Could not partition Windows 7, An unexpected error occurred"

Bootcamp keeps giving me an error when I try to partition sapce for Windows 7 (x64). When I set the space for Windows and hit "Install," it installs for about a fifth of the way before it gives me an error message.  Any help would be appreciated as I really need this Windows partition to run certain programs.  Thanks in advance

Tips I received so far (thanks to A-Mac via Twitter http://www.a-mac.nl and Remco Kalf http://www.remcokalf.nl/)
    - make sure you have at least 10% of your harddisk in free space (I had only 5%).
    - do a PRAM-reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379)
    - perform a hardware test (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509)
    - make a complete backup (with for example Carbone Clone Copier, see http://www.bombich.com/)
    - after complete backup: use diskwarrior (boot from Diskwarrior DVD, first perform diagnostics, then perform "Rebuild" which rebuilds your file directory).
So far I only cleared up some space on my HD, and already the problem occurs less.
Still, I will go through the other tips too.
    (will post progress)

  • Boot Camp, Partitioning, Windows (but which version?) and FrontPage

    Hi there,
I have an iMac purchased in August of 2009. I need to install Windows in order to use FrontPage for updating websites. I tried partitioning the iMac using Boot Camp, and I installed WindowsXP, SP2, 32 bit, but it was a copy of an original install disk. When installing XP, only one partition was recognized, and that partition wasn't labeled "Boot Camp." I then proceeded to have all kinds of problems, such as getting a black screen with a message reading insert bootable disk and press any key. Using the forums, I was able to solve that problem and all is well again, although still no Windows on my iMac!
I called customer care, and a very helpful senior technician (Amy) told me that my problem was that I was not using an original install disk. A copy of an original install disk would not work. She also said I should use a NON OEM version of a Windows XP, Vista or 7 install disk.
I have several questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with:
    1) *Has anyone else successfully used a copied install disk to install Windows on an iMac using Boot Camp?*
    2) *Has anyone else successfully used an OEM original install disk to install Windows on an iMac using Boot Camp?* I'm finding a lot of original Windows operating disks for purchase from places like Circuit City, etc., but everything is OEM.
    3) Should I just spend around $200 and buy Windows7 and go from there?
All I really need Windows on the iMac for is so that I can continue to use FrontPage for updating websites. I am willing to consider moving to a program that is Mac based. However, iWeb is way too basic, and DreamWeaver is way too complex (to say the least). *Does anyone have recommendations for Mac based software for website design and publishing?* I've looked at RapidWeaver, but I'm not sure this is quite robust enough for my needs.
    Thanks!

  • Installing/Partitioning Windows 7 32-bit on Macbook Pro 13"

Hey all you tech people.... I currently have a macbook pro 13" and want to installl windows 7 for my hacking purposes and games. If I do this how much space would you guys suggest partitioning to the windows portion of the HDD. Would you guys suggest parallels? fat-32? I heard parallels is slower because I only have 2.66ghz and it consumes more battery-life... What is your take?
    1 person needs an answer

    Hi Bmoneh!
You might be able to install Windows 7 on your Macbook Pro without the CD. However, on the CD you have all the drivers you need to make your installation to work properly on your Macbook Pro.
My best advice for you is to obtain a replacement CD from Apple. You may also need this CD in case you have to re-install the Mac OS on your machine.
    With best regards,

As suggested already, you need to install the Partitioning option from the OUI. Please run OUI from your oracle home (locate it from Start>All Programs) . It will load a product listing file, in the end , a listing of features would be shown to you which would show Partitioning as a new install . Do the installatation and you should be fine.
