Party Shuffle keeps repeating songs

So I decided to try Party Shuffle for a party (I'd never bothered with it before) due to the feature that allows you to rate songs and hence feature those before others. However Party shuffle keeps throwing the same songs on the list (I've got 15 hours chosen for this party so there should be no need to repeat anything). And in some cases it repeats the same song back to back. I'll probably still use it and just keep shuffling 100 upcoming songs until I'm happy with what I have and then enjoy myself at my party but it's a pain that I have to babysit it. I sent feedback to Itunes about adding a "no repeats" option but I was wondering if there's something I'm overlooking. I guess the other option would be to see what songs I didn't rate and delete them since they didn't merit rating at all.

Nevermind I got it sorted. All of my songs in the "Recently Added List" where unchecked, so from that perspective it looked like I had no songs. Now what the check mark means is a whole other question...but I'm happy

ipod keeps repeating song, won't shuffle.  HELP!!

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?

  • My Ipod Nano keeps repeating songs while in shuffle mode

As the thread title states. My settings are on for shuffle when I shake my ipod, but thre same song repeats itself unless I fast forward to the next song.Which then repeats itself.Any help would be very much appreciated..

Have you got the settings on iTunes to how you want? Often the iPod carries over these settings. If you are not aware of the second music menu when you are playing music, it has the shuffle icon, repeat icon and Genius icon. You have to tap whilst looking at an album cover, and then slide to the side to get to it. If that isnt the case, in settings, there is a section where it asks you what you would like to shuffle, songs, artists, albums or whatnot. You may want to switch that off.

  • Party Shuffle not recognizing songs

When using my Party Shuffle, I noticed that not all the songs from the album selected were playing. I set up a sample album to see what was going on. On putting in the songs that were not playing, I got the message that "The playlist 'Trial' does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle." All the songs are checked to play, so this is not the issue.
Upon further testing, there is no rhyme or reason to which songs Party Shuffle will recognize and which ones it doesn't. For example, I select all of Album A (an album I downloaded) to put in my Trial album, and it will recognize all the songs EXCEPT for 2. I put in Album B instead (another album I downloaded), and it ONLY recognizes 4 songs from this one.
This holds true for albums that I downloaded as MP3 or AAC. These songs that won't play in the Party Shuffle play just fine if I use the shuffle within the Trail Album.
The only possible solution I can think of is re-downloading my music-not something I have tried as I really don't want to do this...
    Anyone have any suggestions??
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm talking about shuffle on the iPod. I have the songs in my Christmas playlist deselected so that they don't play when I shuffle songs in my iPod - I thought. But since the last update, they seem to play anyhow.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to shuffle the songs within my Xmas Playlist, but when I set the iPod's settings to SHUFFLE/SONGS, it will shuffle them from the list once I start it playing, but then it will onlys shuffle SOME of them, not all. I don't get it. Do I have to play them in order to hear all 296 items in the list? Because it only plays 92 at a time. Then when it plays songs from one album too many times, I go and choose another song and it shuffles again from 91, 92 or 93 songs, it seems kind of random. So it is shuffling within the list, but it is only shuffling 1/3 of the songs, and not playing the rest at all.

  • My iTunes doesn't shuffle or repeat songs?

Okay, so i've had this problem since i first downloaded iTunes11. At first i figured its a bug that will be fixed, but after having it for this long, ive realised it's probably a problem at my end. If i click on a band/playlist, and hit shuffle or repeat, it doesnt work the first time around. I have to do it a second time for it to work. it's not a big issue i realise, but very annoying all the same.

@ King-Penguin -- no, they don't and that seems to be the problem, thanks!
Why are the ticks important, and do you know how I can tick my entire collection?

  • I have a new 160GB iPod Classic. I often listen to it for many hours at a time. Even with Itunes and the Classic set on shuffle it repeats songs often and only plays a small fraction of my songs. Help!            of my

When listening for hours to my new Clasic 160 with several thousand songs and both itunes and the Classic set to shuffle all songs it only plays a small fraction of my library and plays many songs several times over that period. It also seems to pick a small different group of songs to repeat without touching many of most of my songs each time I start listening. Over 98% of the music is legally owned in my CD collection. A few are down loads which play! There should be no issues with ownership. Please help. As much as I like all my tunes I want to actually hear them all. There are many many albums that have never been played.

Okay, well we've eliminated a couple of things.
One thing I have noticed about the iPod Classic: I suspect that "shuffle" is actually a Playlist, not a real shuffle. The Classic is not as powerful as iTunes or a desktop/computer, so it cannot truely "shuffle songs". I suspect what happens is that every Sync of the Classic with its iTunes Library causes a revised "shuffle playlist" to be put on the iPod and then, when you choose Shuffle play, it actually uses that special hidden "shuffle playlist".
So one trick is to Sync your iPod with iTunes frequently. This would change the "shuffle playlist". Another trick would be to create your own Playlists, either by adding what you want to a Regular Playlist or by creating a Smart Playlist which adds and removes songs by itself.
Smart Playlists: for example, you can create a Smart Playlist (in iTunes) which contains a random selection of all songs, or a random selection of a particular group of songs, provided the song has not been played for a period of time, say six months, or 300 days. Every Sync of the iPod with iTunes would remove any song from that Smart Playlist if it has been played. That same song cannot go back into the Playlist for a period of six months, or whatever you choose.
This way, you can reduce the likelyhood of hearing the same songs too often. This brings me to another point. If you have the same song, on different albums, then it's possible that you are hearing that same song but from both albums.
Try this: in your iTunes Library,
look for and click on the big + button and choose New Smart Playlist..., if you do not have the Sidebar displayed, switch to the Playlists view where you will find it in the bottom left corner,
Set it up to look like this:
It creates a list of songs that have not been played for fifteen weeks. It excludes videos and in my iTunes Library, it has 527 songs in it. If you would like a smaller list than that, click on the Limit to and fill in the number of songs you want.
Having set it up, play some songs from it (in shuffle mode if you wish) and watch how it changes . The song must play through to the end of the track before it is classed as "played". If you like it, let it go onto your iPod. You could set up a few Playlists, each with their own rules. Even if a song appears in two different Smart Playlists, if you have the "last played is not in the last" rule in both lists, then playing the song will eliminate it from both lists. None of this removes songs from the iPod (unless you use Sync selected Playlists...).

  • Keeps repeating song

keeps playing the same song over and over

It is possible that you have the repeat function activated?
Take a look at pg 18 and 19 of the manual, http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipod_nano_user_guide.pdf

  • My 4th gen shuffle keeps skipping songs

ok the ipod isnt on shuffle and when i turn it on and click play the first song plays then the 3rd then the 7th and so on i tryed deleting the songs that wont play and puting the back on but that didnt work and sugestions

if you make a playlist and load the podcasts in the order you want to listen to them, it will work.  In effect you are double syncing.  I had the same problem and got it to work

  • Party Shuffle with "Display 0 Upcoming Songs" Bug?

I believe I have encountered a bug in iTunes 7, and would like to know if other poeple are having the same problem. If you select "Display 0 Upcoming Songs" in "Party Shuffle" mode, iTunes stops playing instead of choosing another song from the source playlist (after the current song finishes playing).
Previous versions of iTunes did not behave this way.
Can anyone confirm this, or is it a problem specific to my own Mac?
    Thanks.

Why? Drag it to the top of the Party shuffle list.
That's why it's called a party shuffle. You can
    add/delete/rearrange very easily.
    iTunes 6:
you suddenly get an urge to hear a specific song next
switch to iTunes, which is always kept in the Library view
    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
No need to leave the Library view, the song you wanted plays next, and then random tunes play after that's done.
    iTunes 7:
you suddenly get an urge to hear a specific song next
switch to iTunes, which is always kept in the Library view
    Find artist and song
    Drag to Party Shuffle
    Now click on Party Shuffle
Drag the song up 5 places
    Click back to the Library
3 extra steps requiring some accurate mousing. Or, ctrl-click the song, select Play Next in Party Shuffle, which is two extra steps. Like I said, not the end of the world, but very annoying.
And I believe it's a bug, since having it set to 5 songs or more, and the tunes will continue playing, but with 0 it stops. It's inconsistent.
If that was their intended behavior, then they should enable the "replay" icon in the bottom left to toggle how it behaves after reaching the end. As it is now, it's greyed out.
Of course, the perfect solution for me would be to have a shortcut key combo that automatically adds any selected tunes to the party shuffle, as if you had right-clicked and selected Play Next. I hate drag-dropping when I don't have to.

  • Why does playlist on iPod keep repeating and repeating even though play count rule is 1

    Hello, everyone!
I have a smart playlist of about 100 songs.  The play count rule is set to play songs with a play count of less than 1.  A few days ago, I reset all of the songs play count to 0.  If you ask me, the way I have it set up, when the iPod is playing with my headphones on, the iPod should automatically update each songs play count to 1 after each song plays.  After I have listened to all 100 songs, the playlist on the iPod should be empty.  The reason is is because since each song was updated from their play count of 0 to 1 after each one played the play count rule in the playlist should show no songs in the playlist.  Like I said before, the rule says to play any songs with a play count of less than 1.  Since all of the play count of the 100 songs are now 1 and not less than 1, the playlist should be empty.
The problem is, when I'm listening to my iPod and the 100 songs have played, the playlist is not empty.  It just keeps repeating songs and it will never stop.  When I go to iTunes, the songs are randomly with play counts of 3 or 2 or 1 or however many times they have been repeated.
Does anyone know why this is?

The reason the songs don't delete themselves after playing from the playlist on the iPod is because your iPod is not smart enough to do that. It's only when you re-sync your iPod to your iTunes library does the smart playlist in your iTunes library delete the played songs. Then the playlist on your iPod will adjust to the number left unplayed in that playlist.
So as long as you don't sync back to your library the number of songs in that playlist will never reduce to zero.

  • I have my songs set to shuffle, but the same song just keeps repeating.

I have my songs set to shuffle, but the same song just keeps repeating itself and I have to manually advance.

Are you simply shuffling a list containing one song?  When the song plays and you see the album art, do you see "1 of 1" on top?

  • Ipod touch in shuffle mode keeps repeating same song

Why does my ipod touch keep repeating the same song continually when it's in shuffle mode?

    Turn off repeat.
Play the song, tap the repeat icon until it is white=off.
