Party shuffle problems in itunes

Hi,
Just installed the itunes update and i'm having difficulties in the "party shuffle" on my computer. it keeps stopping after every song rather than going from one song straight on to the next as before.
if anyone has any advise then i'd be very greatful.
Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. What's the deal. I actually have had the problem where after one song finishes the next song starts but only plays for a split second and then stops. I can't use the "Return" key to the start a song playing I have to double click or press the play button. !!??????

  • Can my Party Shuffle problems be solved? Is anybody else experiencing this?

There are 3 glitches i have encountered using Party Shuffle (PS) in iTunes (v 7.0.2.16) that i don't know how to fix:
    1) When PS displays/sets the upcoming songs i'll be listening to, which are pulled from one of my smart playlists, a song will frequently show up twice in the shuffle queue. The higher the number of songs i have displayed "on deck", the more likely i am to see songs repeat, but i'll often have a song listed twice in just a 10 song shuffle queue, and sometimes thrice. Once the song is actually played though, it won't be put back into my PS queue anytime soon (because the smart playlist i have PS pull the songs from is set to only include songs i haven't listened to in the last month and have a playcount less than 10 or so (which by the way is an otherwise great way to sortof normalize the "randomness" of the iTunes' shuffle probabilities).) Nevertheless, it's not until the song actually plays and in turn updates the Last Played and Playcount fields for the song that it will take it out of the smartplaylist... but by then the song has already been queued multiple times in PS. (By the way, my Smart Shuffle playback option in iTunes preferences is set to the "least likely" extreme.) Anyway, it sounds like a lot of people are having issues with songs repeating too much and with iTunes' ghost preferences for some songs over others.
    2) I've also noticed that a number of people were having trouble getting PS to play songs continuously instead of one-at-a-time (i.e. having to press play again after each song ends to get the next queued one going). I heard this was taken care of with the latest update - v 7.0.2.16 (although i wish there actually were a way to toggle a continuous play option). Anyway, the recomened solution at the time seemed to be to set the PS option for displaying the number of recently played songs to something other than 0. So, i thought i would change mine to 0 to see if it actually would only play one-at-a-time. It did not. Instead, it started to do something even stranger. It now updates the Last Played and Playcount fields for the new song coming into the queue instead of the song that just finished playing. This isn't really the biggest deal to me, since i usually like to see what the last few songs played were, but it's a glitch nonetheless.
    3) The only other thing i've personally noticed, which isn't really the biggest deal either, is that sometimes when i tell iTunes to "clear album artwork" from a song... well, it doesn't do it. So i have the wrong album cover showing up in PS for songs that are playing. The only way it seems i can get rid of it is to replace it with some different image/cover... which can be a little annoying when you don't want to take the time to go trackdown the correct 200 x 200 pixel image for the album.
Well, i hope someone can help... especially with the first one. I'm guessing these issues can't be resolved until some future updates are released to deal with them. I hope you can prove me wrong though. I also hope Apple has some people listening in these forums for people talking about this stuff so they can fix these bugs... 'cause i don't know of anywhere someone can report an iTunes software bug/glitch.
    Cheers!

I am still on 6.0.5 so I can't really deal with your question, but just an observation.
You say the source for your party shuffle is a smart playlist. How many songs are there in the smart playlist? The fewer there are the more likely you are to get repeats in your party suffle list. Appologies if this is obvious.

  • I'm having Party Shuffle problems....please help!

First of all, I have tried browsing everywhere for help with my problem, but I am not finding the solution so thanks in advance for your help!
Since updating my iTunes to 7.3.1 my Party Shuffle doesn't work like it used to. Prior to this, I would just click on "Party SHuffle" and it would randomly select 20-25 songs from my Music Library. I would refresh it as much as I wanted and it would give me new songs. NOW when I click Party Shuffle, nothing comes up UNLESS I go into my library and click the little box next to each song (I have not been able to figure out how to select ALL the boxes at once), but even then it puts the songs I've selected in my shuffle not once but THREE times!
I have checked in my preferences that I have "Shuffle On" and the Source down at the bottom does indeed say "Music". I have even tried changing the source to "Purchased" but then I get a message saying that the playlist "Purchased" doesn't contain any songs playable by shuffle.
Did something happen with this new upgrade? I even upgraded again just now to version 7.3.2 and it still doesn't work.
    HELP!
    Thank you,
    Dina

Yes, the little box has to be checked in order for the songs to be played continuously. I wasn't aware that unchecked songs would add to Party Shuffle, but it makes sense. The reason it's putting the same song multiple times is that you haven't checked enough songs to make up the whole list so it repeats to make up the 25 or whatever.
Go to the Library. On a windows machine, I think you shift-click one of the boxes and it will check them all. If it's not shift, try the other modifiers.
Then, I'd recommend that you select everything in the Party Shuffle list and hit delete. This should completely repopulate the Party Shuffle list and often fixes problems with it picking odd things.

  • Party shuffle problem

my party shuffle doesnt work. When i change the source to a playlist and press refresh, it just stays at the whole library, and that's not even shuffled. Anyone know how to fix this?

Genius! Thanks so much this was plaguing me for a while now and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Again, Apple Discussions to the rescue.

  • IPod shuffle problem with iTunes 7

In all previous versions of iTunes I had an icon of my iPod shuffle always visible on the left hand side of the screen underneath the library. This allowed me to drag and drop new content to this icon and remove old content. Then, when I plugged my shuffle into the USB port iTunes would update my shuffle with the new content and remove the old content. The icon of my suffle would stay displayed in iTunes even when my shuffle was not conneced to my computer.
Since installing iTunes 7. The shuffle icon only displays when my shuffle is synced to my Mac. When I unplug my shuffle the icon disappears. The other problem is that once I sync my ipod shuffle and start dragging content to the shuffle it automatically starts downloading and slows down the whole process of dragging a second or third piece of content to the shuffle.
I really liked having the ability to organize the content on my shuffle without having the shuffle synced. Any suggestions how I can get this to work in iTunes 7??
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Unfortunately, as you are aware, the Keep this iPod in the source list option does not exist in iTunes 7.
So the first thing you will probably want to do is let Apple know your feelings on the matter by submitting the feedback form on this support page .
Done that? Okay then, so now you'll probably want to make the best of the situation by figuring out if there's any kind of workaround to deal with the matter.
The best I can come up with is suggest that you create a playlist dedicated to your iPod shuffle which, for discussion's sake, we can call the iPod Shuffle Playlist.
Once you have created that playlist, when you connect your shuffle to your computer you can drag the Shuffle Playlist into your shuffle.
After disconnecting the shuffle you can get to work on modifying the Shuffle Playlist for your next update.
Note that you will have to manually clear the iPod shuffle's contents before putting a new Shuffle Playlist on it.

  • Shuffle problems in itunes 8

shuffle doesn't seem to work in grid view.
starts on first album and stays within that album, despite being set on 'songs'
    any fixes for this?

Yep it works OK until you quit and load again and despite the shuffle option not being changed it refuses to shuffle the songs on top of which it will ALWAYS start to play alphabetically from A i.e. Air etc, which, after a while becomes REALLY REALLY annoying hearing the same song every time you start iTunes OVER and OVER and OVER again.
This IS a bug and a MASSIVE one at that!!
On top of all this your grid view stays exactly where you leave it and won't change to show the album currently playing which I know isn't a bug or anything but it would be nice to be able to "see where you're at" with your music.
Bu the way this has been discussed on this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8065026#8065026

  • ITunes Party Shuffle feature not responding

The Party Shuffle feature in iTunes will not respond to any changes I try to make. I tried reinstalling iTunes which did not work. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
    Dell   Windows XP Pro

    Select the Party shuffle.
Select all the songs in the Party shuffle and delete them.

  • Party Shuffle will not operate

I deleted all the songs in Party Shuffle, and now, the feature will no longer operate. Right now, Party Shuffle lists only one song from one playlist, and when I choose other sources from the source selection list located below the track listing window in an effort to get Party Shuffle to accept other songs, it consistently informs me "The playlist '[chosen source]' does not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle. Are you sure you want to choose this playlist?" I receive this message regardless of which source I choose, whether it be my music library or one of my playlists, including the playlist containing the one track now listed. Answering "Cancel" or "Okay" to that dialog box only affects whether or not the chosen source is listed as the selected source. ("Cancel" leaves the source listed as it is, while "Okay" changes the source listed to the selected source, though without affecting the listing of the tracks, er, track.)
Changing the number of recently displayed or upcoming songs does nothing, nor does clicking the Shuffle button in the bottom right corner below the track listing window. As suggested in a similar post, I have selected and deselected the Crossfade Playback option in Preferences > Playback, and I have also selected and deselected the Party Shuffle option in Preferences > General, both to no avail. I have also quit and restarted iTunes, but that had no affect. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it possible somehow to reset Party Shuffle? And if I ultimately do have to perform a re-install of iTunes 7.0.2 to solve this problem, how can I do so without losing or adversely affecting my library or playlists? Thanks for any assistance.

Never mind. I solved the problem when, just for the heck of it, I decided to select (by checkmark, not highlight) all of the tracks in my music library to see if that would make a difference. Yep, it made a big difference. In fact, it made all the difference. Apparently, tracks must be checked to be available for Party Shuffle, but you'd never know that from the "Creating a custom mix using Party Shuffle" entry in iTunes Help. There's no mention of that critical step at all. So that solves the mystery as to why I continued to receive that dialog box telling me that my source selection did not contain any songs playable by Party Shuffle. Yeah, no kidding: 'Cause I hadn't selected any tracks in the first place! Thanks a lot, whoever wrote that incomplete iTunes Help entry on how to use Party Shuffle. What a waste of time, frustration, and anxiety, all because of some poorly written documentation... sigh

  • Party Shuffling a shared library

    Dear All,
Does anybody know if there is a way of party shuffling a shared library?
My music library lives downstairs in the living room, at my iMac, and is shared wirelessly with a windows laptop elsewhere in the house.
I don't generally listen by any method other than Party Shuffle - but I can't seem to do that on the itunes on the laptop.
I can play all the music in the shared library randomly by pressing the random button at the bottom left and double clicking on 'all artists', but this is really not as good as Party Shuffle (I like to sit down and prune the upcoming list depending on my mood / company).
If anybody can help I'd be much obliged.
    Cheers,

It's been that way ever since Party Shuffle appeared in iTunes.
One way I used to do it when I had my music library on a desktop computer and I was using a PowerBook was to use remote desktop software like VNC to control the remote computer.
Or if you quit out of iTunes on the remote computer and use file sharing to mount the remote file system you could hold the Option key down on your local computer and then select the library on the shared volume. I haven't tried this but I think it may work. Changing libraries was something introduced in the latest version of iTunes, although I don't think this was what they had in mind when introduced it.

  • I want party shuffle with my ipod!!

Hi guys, sorry, I was looking for the right place to comment this but just find this place. So I hope you coul tell me where could I (and many more customers) make a request to add party shuffle on iTunes for the ipod.
I was reading around it is diffucult for I don't really care what reason but I am positive it is posible to add such a feature.
So, making right use of this place: why is that no iPod can be used with the party shuffle? can be added on future iTunes revsions? where can I suggest that option with real chances to be heared?
and, what do you think about this?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The best place to make suggestions about Apple products is here (link).
There is a Party Shuffle mode in iTunes 7 and a Shuffle mode on the iPod so I'm not sure what you'd actually be asking for.

  • Party Shuffle not shuffling all that much

I use the Party Shuffle feature of iTunes a lot while I'm using my iMac. I've noticed, though, that it doesn't shuffle all that much. I've got somewhere around 5,500 tracks in my iTunes library and I seem to get the same handful of albums and tracks coming up with monotonous regularity.
I'm using version 7.5 of iTunes and Shuffle source is set to "Music", SmartShuffle is set to "Less likely" and "Songs" and I have also done the "delete and refresh" solution suggested in other topics on this forum. None of this seems to have made any difference, so can anyone suggest any other options?
    Thanks.

Check and make sure that all the tracks in the library have a check mark in the little box to the left of the title. If the boxes aren't checked, iTunes will play only a selected song and then stop. If the boxes are all unchecked, I believe you can check them all at once by control-clicking in one box.
    Best of luck.

  • Party Shuffle on iPod?

I am a fairly new iTunes and Ipod user. I love the Party Shuffle feature in iTunes - but I don't think it is available on my iPod. I know playlists are there, and I turn on 'shuffle' and us a playlist. Can I use Party Shuffle on my Ipod?

There is no Party Shuffle on the iPod, specifically.
You can somewhat get the same thing by shuffling the songs on the iPod - either in total or on a specific playlist.
Create a Smart or Static Playlist that suits your desires and move it to the iPod.
On the iPod menu, go to Settings==> Shuffle and set it to 'Songs'
Then go back to the main menu and select 'Playlists' and select the playlist you want to hear in the shuffle mode by pressing 'Play'

  • Party Shuffle with shared library

Is there anyway to use Party Shuffle on a remote computer with a shared library as the source? I have all my music on my G5 but my laptop is what I use during parties.

It's been that way ever since Party Shuffle appeared in iTunes.

  • ITunes Party Shuffle not working

Has anyone had trouble with the iTunes party shuffle not working? I have unistalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes hoping that would fix the problem but I just keep getting an alphabetical list of my songs in the party shuffle mode.

Thanks so much you have made me VERY HAPPY!!!! Love that Party Shuffle!!!

  • Party Shuffle in iTunes 7 not shuffling

I've noticed that when I'm listening to music on my computer with the party shuffle function, it works fine for a short time before it starts sending the songs I just listened to to the end of my shuffle list and tries to cycle them through again in the exact same order. Then when I check my library to see what song just played, it displays all incorrect songs. Is anyone else having this problem?

Party Shuffle is designed to select tracks for you, you can 'tune' it with the option to choose higher rated tracks more often.
It sounds like you need to create your own playlist, put some cross-fade and off you go.
If you absolutely have to have the tracks in Party Shuffle (I can't imagine why) then you can go through your library, command-click each track you want and select 'Play Next in Party Shuffle' - this will fill your Party Shuffle (in reverse order). I'm not in front of an iTunes at the moment but I think there's another Party Shuffle option in there?
Be careful, if you click 'refresh' in party shuffle it will wipe this list.
