Pasing parameters between forms

Hi.
I need to pass two parameters to a subform and if it is posible also get one return value from it.
Explanation:
I constructed an simple address book (main form) where I can add telephone numbers, names, post codes / names,... I want to popup a subform if an entered post code / name doesn't already exists in the database. I know how to check for existence of those values in the DB from the triger. I encountered a problem when passing already entered post code and post name to the subform. I found in the manual references to:
- :GLOBAL variables
- Parameter_List
The problem with the first one is that I don't know how to check if a variable is already registred (a subform can run also as main form - in this case the global variable isn't declared and I get an exception {error} ).
I also don't understand don't how to use Parameter_Lists ... GET_PARAMETER_ATTR() has four input variables and I don't know what I have to place there (I read the manual, but it is confusing at this point).
Any sugestion / sample?
BTW: how can I pass a return value from a subform back to the main form (a user can change values of post no. and post name in the subform, so I want to get the 'last' {freash} value from the subform)?
Regards,
Dezo

There is a function which allows you to initialize a global variable based on its existance, without an error.
Default_Value( NULL, 'GLOBAL.MY_VAR' );
This will create the Global variable "GLOBAL.MY_VAR" and assign it null if it does not exits.
If the variable does exists, the code has no effect. The global retains its value.

  • Pass User Parameters between Forms and Reports...?

    Hi,
    I have been trying to pass user parameters from forms to reports using
    RUN_REPORT_OBJECT. I am able to run the report from the form, but still don't know how to pass user_parameters. Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,
    AB

    You can use SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY with the "REPORT_OTHER" parameter
    The following example passes 3 parameters to the report:
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(pt_report_object_id, REPORT_OTHER, 'paramform=no p_param_1='||pc_param_1||' p_param_2='||pc_param_2);

  • Passing parameters between form portlets on two different pages ...

    Here is a brief summary of our problem.
    We have one master form and a detail form which are published as portlets and placed in two different pages.
    Now i want to pass parameters from master form portlet resides on one page to detail form portlet resides on another page.
    Say for example, when i invoke master form (created based on demo DEPT table), enter values on fields then invoke another page
    on which the second form portlet (say form based on EMP demo table) resides. Now i want to pass deptno to second form and
    get displayed in deptno field of second form.
    I was looking at the following posting, but how to do this when forms are published as portlets and placed on two different pages ?
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jsp?id=997683
    Customer actually want to pass a parameter from master form to 5 detail form portlets resides on different pages.
    This is bit urgent as it is the only problem stopping the customer go live.
    Thanks in advance.

    Please refer to post Re: session state security
    It tells you how to populate a form portlet in a page by clicking on a link in a report portlet.
    You can use the wwsto_api_session objects to store data submitted by the master and let the detail form pick it up and proceed with the query.

  • PASS PARAMETERS BETWEEN FORM-- REPORT PORTLET

    I have to develop a page. On the left handside of the page preferably a portlet there will be a form where user will enter all the parameters. Based on the parameters a report has to be generated on the right hand side of the page which again can preferably be a report portlet.
    Could anyone give me directions as to how to proceed.
    Eg: user selects a deptno on the parameter form on the left side, the right hand side should display report of all the employees in that dept.
    Its similar to frame driver concept but this application prohibits use of Frame drivers.

  • Pass parameters between forms using a menu

    I use a menu to switch forms. However, I have problems to pass paramenters between the froms.
    Any suggestions ? Thanks.

    There are 2 means:
    1. The most simple to code is to use global vars. Still, you may get into some trouble managing them (erasing them when you no longer need them).
    2. Use parameter lists. RTM about that. It's a bit complicated, but feisable, allowing to pass params whe using open_form or run_product (run_report).
    One more thing: when referencing forms items from menu code you have to use name_in(), and for assigning values to form-items using menu code you have to use copy().

    Global variables can be used, but you can do what the online help
    says ...
    Parameters are passed to called forms by means of a parameter
    list. A parameter list is a named programmatic construct that is
    simply a list of parameter names (called keys) and their values.
    You can pass parameter values to forms invoked by the built-in
    subprograms CALL_FORM, OPEN_FORM, and NEW_FORM. In addition, you
    can pass parameter values to other Oracle tools with the
    RUN_PRODUCT procedure.
    A parameter you include in a parameter list can be either a text
    parameter or a data parameter. The parameter type determines how
    its value is interpreted.
    Text Parameters The value of a text parameter being passed to a
    called product is a CHAR string that can represent the following:
    n a user-defined form parameter defined in a form invoked
    by the CALL_FORM, OPEN_FORM, or NEW_FORM built-in subprograms
    n a command line or user-defined parameter for a product
    invoked with the RUN_PRODUCT built-in subprogram
    Data Parameters The value of a data parameter being passed to a
    called product is always the name of a record group defined in
    the current form. (A record group is a data structure that
    stores records derived from a query or through programmatic
    assignment.) Data parameters are used to pass data to products
    invoked with the RUN_PRODUCT built-in subprogram. You cannot
    pass data parameters to forms.
    The following table shows the structure of a parameter list that
    contains four parameters:
    Key Paramtype Value
    CITY Text_Parameter 'BOGOTA'
    CATEGORY Text_Parameter 'EXPORTS'
    MULTIPLIER Text_Parameter '.0275'

  • Passing parameters between portlets with in the same page

    Hello,
    I have created a Form and a report. The form allows a user to make some selection values, and then upon submit it passes the selected values to the report to query the database. The results from the query are displayed in a new - seperate - window from the form. Is there anyway to disaply the report results on the same page as the form that called the report? I guess I am trying to have a page with 2 portlets (a form, and a report). I want the user to be able to make a selection from the form portlet and pass that selection to the report portlet within the same page.
    Thanks,
    McKell

    Hi I received this info from an OSS named Mahantesh. I thought it was very helpful information for passing portlet parameters between a form and a report within the same page.
    Please check these steps to pass parameter from form to report:
    This article is based on demo tables EMP and DEPT.
    1. Create a report RPT_DEPT using the query 'Select * from dept where deptno= :deptno'
    2. Create a form FRM_EMP based on EMP table.
    3. Edit the form FRM_EMP => 'Formatting and Validation Options' section => click on DEPTNO field
    => Give the value for the 'Link' (under 'Display options') as 'javascript:runrep()' where runrep is the name<br>
    of javascript function that we are going to create later.
    4. In 'Form text' section, in the 'Footer Text' add the code for the runrep function as follows.
    <script>
    function runrep()
    var formObj = document.forms[0];
    var deptno;
    for (var i=0; i < formObj.length ; i++){
    if (formObj.elements.name == 'FORM_EMP.DEFAULT.DEPTNO.01'){
    //FORM_EMP is the form name
    deptno = formObj.elements[i].value;
    break;
    var url="/portal/page?_pageid=38,1,38_31678:38_31787&_dad=portal&_schema=<br>
    PORTAL&deptno=" + deptno;
    //modify the url according to your environment.<br>
    window.location=url;
    }<br>
    </script>
    5. Modify the URL in the above code with your page url on which form and report portlets have been placed.
    6. Goto Page properties => Parameters tab (Parameters and Events option should have been enabled at Pagegroup level).
    7. Create a page parameter and map it with report portlet parameter.
    8. Now run the page, enter deptno or query the form to get the deptno and click on the link next to deptno field. You should get report with corresponding deptno on the page.

  • OBIEE 11G - Issue passing parameters between two reports

    Hi folks,
    I am struggling to pass parameters between two reports in OBIEE 11G.
    My first report contains the following columns: Rolling Year Type (VCHAR), Year(VCHAR), Month(VCHAR), Cost(Double).
    My second report contains the following columns: Rolling Year Type(VCHAR), Year(VCHAR), Month(VCHAR), Category(VCHAR), Cost(Double).
    My requirement is to pass the Rolling Year Type, Year and Month values from report 1 to report 2.
    On the Month column properties of report 1, I have created an Action Link called 'Drill to Category'. I have clicked on 'Navigate to BI Content' and selected Report 2.
    Then on Report 2, I have included three filters: Rolling Year Type is prompted, Year is prompted, Month is promted.
    When I run the report I always get the following error:
    The specified criteria didn't result in any data. This is often caused by applying filters and/or selections that are too restrictive or that contain incorrect values. Please check your Analysis Filters and try again. The filters currently being applied are shown below.
    When I check the cursor cache, the filter values are correct. Does anybody have any idea why Report 2 does not display?
    When I remove the Month filter, the report works correctly.
    I have since changed the third filter to be Month No and although Report 2 does display, it does not pick up the filter on the Month No.
    I initially thought this may have been a caching issue and so I have disabled BI Server Cache but this does not fix my problem.
    This was never an issue on OBIEE 10G as I found it very easy to navigate between two requests.
    Has anyone else experienced problems with passing parameters between two request in 11G?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gavin

    Hi,
    I once tried this kind of requirement(with dashboard prompts though) and hit at similar issue. I later found out that the problem is with the space in the parameter values. Can you please let me know, if the same is the case with you?
    Suppose the parameter passed is "Jan 2010", but the report on the destination takes the value as "Jan" & "2010". Yes, it kind of split the parameter value to two based on space. I think we can notice the filters the destination report got, by enabling filter view.
    In this case, since you pass only value at a time, could you try placing the parameter value anyway in double quotes? I think the Server then will understand it as one value.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

    <b>Report painter</b>
    A tool for creating reports that meet specific business and reporting requirements.
    The Report Painter enables you to report on data from various applications. It uses a graphical report structure that forms the basis for the report definition. When defining the report, you work with a structure that corresponds to the final structure of the report when the report data is output.
    The SAP System is delivered with several row and column models that can be used as building blocks to help you create reports quickly and simply.

  • Problem in passing parameters between flow task in a dynamic region

    Hi,
    I have a problem with the passing of parameters between task flow when it is executed within a dynamic region. To implement this, I followed the Baranovskis Andrejus Blog "JDeveloper 11g and ADF Task Flow Parameters" and everything works perfect as the task flow are not invoked from a dynamic region. But if the same task flow are converted to fragment of pages and executed in a dynamic region, the filter in the task flow that is called does not work, it does not return any records.
    Any idea that I may be missing to make this work well?.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Frank.
    My case is the first, ie in a single dynamic region, a task flow call another passing parameters to filter data to display in the second, using a task flow call activitie. As I said in the message above, everything works well as both task flow to not become unbounded task flow with fragmet page.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Sharing parameters between 2 portlets

    I have two seperate java applications, both of which have been turned into portlets with their own provider.
    I need to pass parameters between the portlets and am trying to work out the best / most secure way to do this.
    I know that if both portlets were in the same provider they could share providersession information. I could do this if i could change one of the provider files to link to a portlet in another jdeveloper application. I believe its not possible to have more then one portlet in a provider if the code for the second portlet is comming from a seperate jdeveloper application ??
    I could also pass parameters through portlet / page parameters. The problem is that i don't want these parameters to appear on the URL. Am I correct in assuming that this type of parameter passing between portlets always means the parameter appears on the URL.
    I heard of the java object cache as a method, but don't know where to start with this !!
    Dows anyone a solution , to what must be a common problem ?

    Hi Frewin,
    Why cant you have both the portlets in the same JDeveloper project? You can have as many portlets as you wish to have within a single provider.
    Frankly, you dont really need to rely only on jdeveloper :-) ...
    thanks,
    Harsha

  • Passing multiple parameters between two report portlets on the same page

    Hi,
    I want to pass multiple parameters between two report portlets on the same page.
    I have been succussful passing a single parameter between two portlets. The
    following are the steps :
    (1) Created first report based on the query
    SELECT htf.anchor('http://192.168.0.84:7778/servlet/page?&_pageid=97&_dad=portal30&_schema=portal30&_mode=3&dept_code='||DEPTNO,DEPTNO) Department, ename FROM EMP;
    (2) Created 2nd report
    select * from EMP where DEPTNO = :dept_code
    (3) Added pl/sql code before display page on the 2nd report
    portal30.wwv_name_value.replace_value(
    l_arg_names, l_arg_values,
    p_reference_path||'.dept_code',portal30.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(nvl(g
    et_value('dept_code'),10)));
    (4) Created a page and added these reports as portlets.
    Sofar it works fine for one parameter (deptno) . Now I want to add one more
    parameter say empno to my first report query and would like to pass both the
    parameters deptno and empno to the 2nd report. Please tell me how to pass multiple parameters ?
    Thanks
    Asim

    Hi,
    You will have to do the same thing
    The select will be like this
    SELECT htf.anchor('http://toolsweb.us.oracle.com:2000/servlet/page?_pageid=97&_dad=mb&_schema=mybugs&_mode=3&dept_code='||DEPTNO||'&empno='||empno,DEPTNO) Department,ename
    FROM EMP
    In the additional plsql code do the same for empno like this
    mybugs.wwv_name_value.replace_value(l_arg_names,l_arg_values, p_reference_path||'.dept_code',mybugs.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(nvl(get_value('dept_code'),10)));
    mybugs.wwv_name_value.replace_value(l_arg_names,l_arg_values, p_reference_path||'.empno',mybugs.wwv_standard_util.string_to_table2(get_value('empno')));
    Thanks,

    Hi Norman,
    As Jörg said, please put "&" before each of your variable names at your url. For the second part,I didn't try it for date intervals but keep in mind just in case:
