IIRC, OPTION-click on the Apple icon on the menu bar and select either Restart or Shutdown. Alternatively,
    Control-Command-Eject
Quit all applications (after giving you a chance to save changes to open documents), then restart the computer
    Control Option-Command-Eject

Every time I right click on an image and select Download image Firefox crashes . I have reinstalled; uninstalled and deleted folders and then reinstalled; added no plugins; checked I can DL the same images in IE-works good.I use Win7 pro and it works in other profiles in Windows 7. I created a new profile in Windows and that worked for about 2 months and now that has gone the same way as my admin profile has done. I deleted the sqlite download file-still same prob..Please help. I use Firefox 13.0.1

    That sounds very frustrating.
By the way, does it say "Download image" or "Save Image As"? Just checking whether you have an add-on downloader in the mix that might be relevant. If you do have an add-on, try using the built-in command.
Do you also crash if you save from here:
right-click page > View Page Info > Media tab > (select image) > Save As
I assume you have seen this article and tried these things: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
Have you tried the new Reset feature in Firefox 13? This duplicates certain key data from your active settings folder into a new one, bypassing some add-ons and custom settings. Your plugins will still be active, but could be disabled manually if you like.
More information in this article: [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]].
If the new settings folder has the same problem, you can switch back if you like using Firefox's Profile Manager.
    Does it make any difference?

I can't get my ipad3 to backup using iCloud.. It times out right at the end of backup. The blue bar nearly fills up and right at the end a message pops up saying the backup could not be completed.

Tried that.. No joy. Just tried to synch again with iCloud . The bar gets nearly to the end and then stops. Says below it - estimated time remaining.... I'm confused. If I synch to my computer is this the same as synching to iCloud. It's shame it's doesn't work!

'Requires=network.target' wasn't in it so I added it but nothing's changed. I've left it in because openVPN does require network.
As I said, I had this problem with a script so I don't think it's anything specific to openVPN. I had a weird occurrence this morning however. When I started the computer up this morning  openVPN worked just fine. However when the computer rebooted openVPN couldn't resolve the host address again.

  • Firefox makes an annoying bing noise every time I right click or click on any of the task bar buttons (the file edit view, ect ones)

Alright, so I got firefox, opened it up, and I had been trying to figure out how to change my homepage, so I clicked file, and it made this really irritating bing noise, which definitely caught my attention. So as I looked through the other menus at hand for a solution to the problem it continued making the noise. When I didn't find a way, I right clicked and made the noise when I did that too, right clicking didn't help me solve my problem either, so I had to resort to help, and most of what I saw already in their that could have help I didn't understand, something about genome default sounds and yeah. Please help.

  • [AMD] Something aint right. Can't even begin an overclock !!!!

Read the Overclocking Guide very carefully (Some1ne's here on this board)
Started to test with the most conservative setting of HTT 4X and 210 FSB, with memclock of only 100mhz as suggested , on my AMD 3000 Venice core. No other mods to stock settings.
Nothing right? Freaking thing hung on first boot. had to clear cmos!
According to the 4 light diagnostic , it's hanging at Processor Initialization.
How is it possible that it would hang on settings like these?
Using 2 sticks of  Corsair Dual Channel CMX512-3200C2
       MSI Neo4 Platinum

Try the 133 or 166 divider.
Usually when you have to do a cmos reset when attempting overclock it's because of a memory setting, cpu overspeed will usually come up in bios safe mode.(at least in my experience)
I would try 166 divider and 3-3-3-8 (spd for those modules) and mess around with 1T or 2T.(although that ram should do 1T)Don't use Tras lower than 7.
Also you do want to check all other settings to make sure a default setting isn't messing you up i.e.
    spread spectrum
    dynamic overclocking
    agressive settings
    cool&quiet
    yada yada yada
turn off anything your not using in bios.  If you have usb printer turn off the parallel port. turn off sata ports your not using etc etc
    disable power management
basically anything that isn't neccessary to make the system run
Then give it a shot and see how you do.  5 Mhz at a time then run something quick like 3dmark01, save prime95 and the other stuff for when you think your close to max.  Some boards just don't like big jumps.

    Dear vikrang,
When you visit a person's home, you are expected to follow the customs of that home. Here in the Arch forums, we have a Forum Etiquette which should be followed - one of the things stated there is that you should show respect to the moderators of the forum itself. Calling a moderator offensive and arrogant is certainly not in line with that.
Whatever your real or perceived language barriers, if you wish to use Arch you should agree with and follow the Arch Way. The nature of your questions (and the lack of much knowledge on what exactly you have done to install Arch) indicates that this is not the case.
Learn to post questions properly, and learn to respect the moderators and the community. It does not exist solely for you.
Due to the nature of this thread and the turn it has taken, I'm closing it. Feel free to open another one with more specification of what exactly you have done and the question you're asking. For the questions listed here, I think a bit of searching will teach you that you needn't have posted the thread in the first place.

  • Is the Time Capsule Right for Our Family?

I just bought one, but I'm coming to realize I didn't understand how it works. Before purchasing it, I tried to explain our family's needs to Apple Store personnel on several occasions but apparently did not succeed because they indicated it would fill the bill. Please let me try to explain on this format in the hope that someone with a better understanding can clarify for me how it is used.
First of all, I don't need it as a wireless transmitter. Our family uses a 2005 iMac as a software base station link to our MacBooks and that seems to work okay. A cable modem connects to that iMac, and we also get cable TV and phone service from the cable company.
What we wanted was a backup disk that we could send data to wirelessly using Time Machine. It struck me that the three most likely ways one could lose data would be a hard-drive (or DVD) crash, fire, or theft. For fire and theft contingencies I wanted to place the Time Capsule in an obscure part of the house away from the iMac. It wouldn't be perfect but it would improve the odds.
I tried loading my MacBook onto the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable bought for that purpose. The process seemed to work, but I couldn't actually access the data. Later I unplugged the TC. The flashing amber light came on when I reconnected it. The Apple service rep who I then spoke to on the phone said (I think) the Time Capsule must be connected to the Internet either directly from the cable company feed or through an ethernet cable. That would seem to negate two of the three contingencies I thought the Time Capsule would help protect us from. Is she correct? Do readers have needs similar to ours? If so, how do you meet them?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for responding.
My basic question is this: can I back up data wirelessly to the Time Capsule if it is not directly connected to the Internet? I want to plug it in a socket in another part of the house away from the cable modem. I do not want to connect it to the modem because it would then be close to the other computers, thereby increasing the risk of losing all to fire or theft.
If I can get past this fundamental issue, I will focus more on making the TC work.

  • Need to move my applications to new OS and Hard Drive, but Tiger doesn't have Time Machine, right?

I updated my RAM, put in a new hard drive, and updated my OS from tiger to snow leopard (no I'm NOT ready for lion) all at the same time on my 2007 MacBook. Though I backed up general files on my hard drive, I didn't do a full system backup, and now all of my beautiful applications (i.e. Office, Photoshop, etc.) no longer exist. Can I get these back if I put in my old drive and back it up somehow? Or is it all gone now that I'm on a new OS on a new hard drive? Trying to figure out how to properly back up applications and info from Tiger on my original HD and get it all onto my new HD which is functioning with Snow Leopard. I don't think Time Machine works on Tiger so I'm confused. I have an external hard drive I can use as well.

Here's a cheap SATA external hard drive case on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-5-SATA-HDD-HARD-DRIVE-EXTERNAL-ENCLOSURE-CASE-BOX-/120 636286623?pt=PCC_Drives_Storage_Internal&hash=item1c167ba69f
Just put your old drive in the case and plug it into one of your USB ports. For MicroSoft Office you can just move the folder from the old drive's Application Folder to the new drive's Application Folder. PhotoShop might not work as well. Office has everything it needs in it's folder while PhotoShop seems to need something else.

  • Can't keep time in right time zone

No matter what I do I can't get my time to stay in EDT. The time wants to jump ahead 3 hours. I set it for Los Angeles time and it worked for awhile, showing the time correctly, but now it is back to 3 hours ahead. I have changed settings and tried everything.

nunz, I have a similar problem. yesterday after updating my itouch, the time was 2 hours fast even though the time zone was correct. I checked the time on my new, 2 day old laptop, and the time zone was set to Pacific {I'm in Central}. weird, considering that the time was correct on my laptop. since my son set up my new laptop while I was at work, I thought maybe he did something to it. I had never bothered to check the time zone since the time was correct.
so I set the time zone to central on my laptop, but then the time was off by 2 hrs.~! I manually changed the time, and it seems to be ok. but no matter what I tried with my itouch, the time wouldn't stay fixed even though the time zone was correct. I finally just set my time zone to pacific time on my itouch so it would show the correct time of day.

  • Calendar time not right

My calendar is telling me that I have a meeting in 15mins. Thing is, its about 8 hours too late... anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi Danny,
Is Time Zone Support on and set to the correct Time Zone in Settings> Mail, Contacts, Calendars?
Try testing with it off, does it have the same issue?
Also, make sure the Time zone on your computer is correct.

  • Is Time Machine Right for me?  Running MacPro 4TB

I'm really lost for ideas on doing backups. I like the idea of using time machine, but b/c TM can only use one disk to backup to, I'm not sure it will work for me. Does anyone have any ideas? I am running a MacPro with 4TB of internal storage, about 50% used. I'm a photographer.
    Thanks,
    Josh

Yes, I believe it is called JBOD. "Just a bunch of disks". Is this a good backup method for me. Using time machine with a few disks. I guess I just wonder if there are solutions out there that are better. I just don't know a lot about this stuff.
Depends on what you've got, how you use your Mac, what's important to you, etc.
I'm assuming most of your data is photos. Are they mostly archival, or do you do a lot of editing? Do you mostly edit new photos, then leave them alone, or edit old ones, also?
You might consider a mixed strategy: TM and/or a bootable "clone" for everything except the photos, including keeping a copy off-site, and perhaps some small but rapidly-changing data, such as address book, settings, preferences, etc., automatically to an online service daily. That would be great protection for your OS, apps, email, documents, etc.: all the relatively-small stuff not directly involved in your main pursuit, that you really don't want to worry about, or spend hours tediously trying to reconstruct if something awful happens.
Then a more traditional "archive" type app for the photos. Perhaps frequent backups to an external disk of current in-process data, plus larger backups of older, archived photos, to alternating portable externals where one is used locally for a few days, then swapped with the other and taken off-site. Or perhaps one for each year, or groups of finished products, etc.
Whatever you do, don't depend on a single backup for the really important stuff, no matter where it is or how it was made. Disk drives do fail on occasion. Now and then, any application may not work exactly the way you expect it to, or crash. And as terrific as external drives are, they may not protect against fire, flood, theft, or direct lightning strike on your power lines. So get something off-site (safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, etc.).

  • Is Time Capsule right for me?

Hello - I want to set up a LAN where I can have a printer available for the wired iMac and the MacBook and have an external hard drive available for backup. I know that TC will work for this, but I also wanted to use the TC as an external hard drive to store and access files from both the desktop and laptop. Maybe share the iTunes and iPhoto libraries.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, but it really is a network attached storage device (NAS). If you haven't started a TM backup, wait until you get Time Capsule as the TM backups created on a locally attached HDD is not compatible with backups created on a NAS like TC. You mentioned you already have an external HDD. If it is USB, you can plug that into TC. If it's formatted HFS+ (Mac OS Extended - Journaled) it can also be used by TM to back up your Mac. This way your TC could be dedicated to your iPhoto and iTunes data. Or visa versa.
