  • How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5 on a mac running Snow Leopard 6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0?

I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard fine on my MacPro1,1, Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz  Mac, but I need to install Lion 10.7.0 to run a program I need. How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5, because I get this message when I try to install 10.7.5, which I've downloaded:"This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7." on a mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, So i need to install the original 10.7.0 over the 10.6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0? The original Lion 10.7. is not avaialable for purchase from the App store or anywhere,  even C-Net . Where can I find it to purchase?
Also it seems I cannot install Mountain Lion over 10.6.8 as advertised. When I go to purchase I get this message: "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."   I think my computer can handle it (specs above) Are there any workarounds to this?

If you're getting a "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7" message, than you have the updater and not the full installer. Go to your Purchases section of the Mac App Store and you should see the full version there. But it may be 10.7.5, though in my system is shows as being from 2011 which would appear to be the original version.
As to Mountain Lion, that's supported only on the Early 2008 Mac Pro or newer.
    Regards.

  • A "sleep your display" app for Lion?

I'm looking for a one click solution to turning off my external monitor from bed. I keep a mouse at my nightstand to control what I'm watching before bed. I'm aware of the option+shift+eject method but preferably I'd like something that doesn't require need for a keyboard. I found an app called "sleep display" which seems to be exactly what I'm looking for only it doesn't seem to work for Lion. Any other options that doesn't involve going to my system preferences to turn on a black screensaver every night?

Very nifty. Never knew about that, thank you.

  • My passbook app for iphone 4 doesnt store anything in the PB app. It creates an individual app itself. Why is that?

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

basically you have to get a pass from an app to store in passbook, for example if you have the target app and see a coupon there, you can add the coupon to your passbook. if you have the american airlines app and buy a plane ticket you can add the ticket to your passbook. i'll tell you right now that passbook isn't working that great because most companies haven't really integrated passbook yet, for example starbucks says they will have something for passbook in october. the idea has promise, but it needs time at this point.

I added one store rewards card to Passbook.  Now, when I open Passbook, that card opens, and I don't have the Passbook home screen with the "App Store" button.  I have an iPhone 4.

  • I paid for lion because my 2006 mac pro will not run anything newer (arbitrary decision by apple). Downloaded it, but nothing happened. App Store now says i've already downloaded it, so I can't try again. App store also says lion isn't available in usa.

I found out that an 06 mac pro cannot be updated to anything more recent than lion. They guys at the local shop told me this after they tried to update it for me so I could run logic pro 9 in 64 bit mode. I bought lion. Waited two days for the emails. Spent hours following the instructions which sounded so simple until you try them. Finally I found the "redeem" button that was hidden because the size of my safari window was too small to show it and there was no bar at the bottom to scroll over. Without googling "how do you find the app store" and "how do you find quick links" I never would have figured it out. I only mention this so that others may learn from my mistakes. Finally I downloaded lion, supposedly, but nothing happened. There is no indication that anything downloaded, other than the fact that when I try to download it again, it says it's already been downloaded. I spent four hundred bucks at the shop updating, plus whatever they charged me for lion, and I've still got snow leopard and logic pro running at 32 bits. I'm pretty sure nobody can help me, but could you please arrange for the return of my time?

You can go to "Purchases" tab and check again.
If OS X Lion is still not downloading, try at a different network environment.
By the way, Mac Pro (2006) with a newer graphics card runs Mavericks perfectly with modifications in the installer.
It's not allowed to be discussed here, but you can simply google how to do it.

  • What's the best App for cleaning/speeding up Mac using Lion?

Can anyone recommend an App for cleaning/speeding up my iMac and Macbook Pro, both of which use Lion?
Hard drive space is not really the issue, but I can't help feeling that my iMac is not as nippy as it used to be - my basic requirements are:
    1) Easy to use. I'm a competent user, but no guru.
    2) Will confirm details of what is is deleting, cleaning before it does it.
    3) Is reliable and won't crash or bugger-up my system.
    4) Actually works - as I said, don't really need to reclaim storage, but would like to speed up my mac
    5) Doesn't cost the earth.
You thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Cheers all,
    Simon.

Do the below and keep your boot drive below 50% filled and not more that 80%, that's about all you can do without a full reinstall of the OS.
    12: OnyX cache cleaning
Category: OS X, application and User account software related
Description: Gives OS X, application and user account caches a enema, lets then rebuild again new, resolves strange and unknown issues based on cache files being corrupted .
Only cache files are removed, not users data, files, programs or OS X. Some settings will be set back to normal in Finder and other locations. Spotlight will rebuild a new database.
Problems possibly resolved: Varied: Flash install issues, Dock/Finder/File issues, "ghost files", performance and privacy related
    Instructions:
Apple doesn't supply a easy method for the user to self clean the caches, thus we have to turn to third party software.
Use the free OnyX matching your OS X version and run all the initial checks, stop if any give a warning, you have a bigger problem. See #4
Run though all the Maintenance and Cleaning aspects (except don't delete the log files) and reboot at the end (must)
You must be through running all the maintenance and cleaning aspects as this is a "catch all" method and any number of corrupted caches may be responsible for your issues.  You need to REBOOT at the end of using OnyX. Canceling the in-between reboot requests is fine.
Read Step #13 and  perform the Verify > Preferences before rebooting at the end of using OnyX.
Get the free OnyX here:  http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx  More info:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnyX

  • I recently purchased, from the APP store, Lion for use on my MacBook Pro.  I wish to upgrade my IMac to Lion also.  Do I need to make a 2nd purchase or will the single purchase suffice?  If the single purchase will suffice, how do I facilitate ?

I recently purchased, from the APP store, Lion for use on my MacBook Pro.  To upgrade my IMac to Lion, need I make an additional purchase?  If not, how do I facilitate the IMac upgrade?

No, you do not need to re purchase Lion. You can re download Lion on all your authorized Macs using the same Apple ID.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.

  • Where is the install package stored from the app store for Lion?

This is an all new way of deploying OS updates from Apple. From what I can see, this presents some issues:
    1. Where is the install package that I bought from the app store, and how can I save that offline?
    2. If there's a problem with my device in the future, I have no media of Lion to restart from- so what's the procedure to restore from a TM backup? Go back to 10.6, and then to the 10.7 update?
    3. What if I want to boot from disc or a drive? I don't have a copy of the install to make a bootable image.
    Thanks for the help

OK, once you install Lion the Installation Package gets deleted. However once you have installed Lion, do following:
    - Open the AppStore Application
    - With pressed Option (on German Keyboard ALT) Key klick on the "Purchased" Tab!
    - You will now see that the prviously greyed out "Install" key for Lion becomes active
    - Download the install package
    - Do not start installation
    - In order to create a bootable DVD or USB drive containing the installer follow instructions posted on
    http://www.macworld.com/article/161069/2011/07/make_a_bootable_lion_installer.ht ml
This is how you can create installation media.
For maintenance options (means your Lion installation has some problems but your drive is still OK)
you can boot from the hidden recovery partitions that was created when you installed Lion.
To do so, press the Option (ALT) Key while booting. You will have now the option to boot from
    Lion or recovery partition.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I get the download for Lion OS on my iMac if I don't have the App Store app?

I stopped by the Apple Store and they told me that they can't sell me Lion OS in the store.  Since I have an older iMac with out the App store App, they said that I need to contact Apple Support.  But do I have to do that via phone or can I somehow email them?

What you need is to get (buy and install) Mac OS Snow Leopard first; that includes the app store. After you install and update it, then you can launch the app store and buy/download/install Lion. Now, how old is your machine? Here are the requirements for Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4949
You will also need a minimum 2 GB RAM, but you really should have a minimum of 4 GB to get good performance.

I sure hope you are correct, Christoph. Seems one Mac site has questioned this also:

No iWeb updates either way so far. Not that I use it, just an observation.

  • Is there a "passbook" app available for Ipad Air ?

I' trying to organize a trip and really like the passbook feature on my Iphone.  Can't find it on my new Ipad Air, nor can I find a Passbook app in the app store.  thanks

It is not a feature for the iPad. It is on the phone and the iPod Touch and perhaps that's because of the smaller size of those two devices which might make them better suited for this purpose than something as large as an iPad. Just my opinion .....

  • If I have lion installed on one computer, how do I transfer it to another without having to download it? My net is to slow to redownload it. I searched for lion os x.app in finder and couldn't find it.

Downloading Lion from the Mac App Store didn't put the Lion OS on your computer. It put an application package called Install Mac OS X Lion on your computer; specifically, in your Applications folder.
If you install from the Install Mac OS X Lion application package inside your Applications folder, the application package (the installer) will be deleted once the installation is complete. You must copy the installer to another location or to another drive/media before you run it to upgrade to Lion - if you didn't do that, then you have to download it again.
If you did copy the installer, then you can just copy it over to any other Mac you own which meets Lion's minimum system requirements and run it again to upgrade those other Macs to Lion.
