Passcode for iOS 7.1.2

Hi folks
I've tried to update my iPhone 5 with the iOS 7.1.2 software update and its asking for a 4 digit pass code.  I always use my apple ID password when updating software or  downloading any apps from the app store etc. Why is it suddenly asking for a passcode. I tried using my unlock phone passcode but with no use.  Any ideas??
Cheers

Been using an ipad 2 without passcode for quite some time. While upgrading to ios 7, I enabled Find Iphone on the Ipad. It asked for passcode and I gave one. Now I forgot it. Connected it iTunes (on my windows 8 system) with which I sync and that too required an update as old version of itunes cannot read ios7. Problem is itunes does not want to get updated. Some vague error on not having right to write a file in ProgramData folder wheras as an admin i have full rights. Next I downloaded the install file from itunes site - no luck it would not install. Then I tried to remove itunes - it does not want to go. Am at wits end... Is the option only to restore it as a new Ipad?

Place the iPhone into recovery mode and restore the iPhone with iTunes on your computer.

  • HT5467 What is the Passcode for Restrictions since the iOS 7 update?

I did not have a passcode on Restrictions before this update.  And my passcode for unlocking the iPad is still the same and works fine.  I've tried using this passcode on Restrictions and it does not work.  I've tried 0000.  I've tried every combination I could think of that might be the basic one that the system might have put in there.  I don't want to have to wipe my iPad and have to restore everything if I can help it.  Since the update put the code on it, I was hoping that Apple can chime in here and tell us what code they put on it.  This is an iPad 2.
Also Location Services is OFF and gray out since the update.  How do I get access to it to turn it back on?  (that is how I found out that Apple put on a restriction passcode...trying to get location services turned on so that "Find My iPad" will work again.
    Thank you,
    Cindy

You should always do a backup prior to an iOS update, and frequently thereafter.
The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.
Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

  • When I downloaded IOS 7 today, I accidently set up a passcode for locking the phone.  Can I "undo" that?

Today I was prompted to upgrade to IOS 7 on my Iphone.  I accidently set up a passcode for locking the phone everytime the screen goes dark.  Can this be "undone"?  Very annoying as I use this phone for personal, nothing important matters & the passcode I set up is rather long?  Any help appreciated.

Go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock and undo it there.

  • HT1222 IPad mini wifi+cellular does not allows to enable restrictions in fact there is no such alternative under Settings- General.. I need the passcode for several purpose, how can to avail it?.. Please somebody ASAP

    Hello,
A day before got new IPAD mini (Wifi-Cellular). When trying to look forpasscode enable option, it ended with nothing to avail. Would like to know if there is any such priviledge or not. Secondly, when the iPad is left idle for awhile ,say, 5 minutes,, a poor screensaver pops up and continues to play IPad advertisement, which we usually find in DEMO products @stores. Doubtful, if seller has handed over bad/demo stuff to me. Please suggest. It took whole of last night to figure out on Google, but no success.
    Thanks

    Morning driving,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can configure a passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using Settings > General > Passcode Lock.
    iOS: Understanding passcodes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4113
If you are unable to modify certain passcode settings, there may be a configuration profile that requires these passcode options.
You can find out if a profile is installed by tapping Settings > General and looking for the Profile setting between Accessibility and Reset.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • I have forgotten/never had a passcode for my ipad how can I find/set one up?

I have forgotten/never had a passcode for my ipad.  How can I find/set one up?

    Hi doph4140,
If you are able to access/unlock your iPad currently (does not have a passcode) and you are looking to set one up, you may find the following article helpful:
    iOS: Using passcodes

If, instead, you are unable to unlock your iPad due to a forgotten passcode, then this article may be more useful:

  • Forgot passcode for iphone that I just bought have not set up an account with yet, how do I recover?

I just bought a used iphone 4, it has no account or data plan associated with it, so it has no owner, my problem is that I accidentally set a passcode for the phone that I do not know, how do I reset the phone WITHOUT itunes so I can access my phone again? Currently it will not lock me out unless I don't wake it up in 4 hours, I have it in the settings to require a passcode every four hours, can I take it to AT&T and set up my data plan and account on the phone as long as it doesn't lock the screen? And from there can I reset the passcode in itunes? This is urgent so please help if you can, thank you

Not sure I understand your post as first part says without iTunes and next to last sentence says in iTunes. Either way, iTunes is going to be involved. The following should help: If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • My sister forgot her passcode for her iPad Mini

My sister gave up her iPad for a few weeks and decided to shut it off. When she turned it back on she forgot her code and couldn't get in. From past experinces I tried to restore it in order to unlock it, but I can't restore it unless "Find my iphone" is off. I went on to icloud.com to turn it off and erase the ipad from there. But, when I tried to erase it a message came up that said it won't erase until it's connected to wifi. The iPad can't connect unless it's unlocked. So we're stuck in this vicious cycle. Any advice would be appreciated! She has an iPad mini with iOS 8.

Try recovery mode and see if that's let you reset the iPad - there are instructions half-way down this page : Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

I have never create a passcode for updating of software.  Now it is asking for the passcode when I tried to update.  Anyone can help?

Perhaps it wants you to set a passcode for the account, not enter one you already have. But for the latter:
