  • Preparing for CLAD exam with LV Basics I and II

    Hi
This is my first post, so I want to say hello to all the users. I am currently preparing for CLAD exam. I participate in a course containing material from Core 1 and Core 2. I also have a CBT Labview Basics I and II kit. Does this CBT kit still cover all topics needed to pass this exam? It says that it`s almost 6 years old, so I want to ensure that it`s still worth of using it. Thanks for all the answers.

Another couple things to add. I posted this comment a little while ago which reiterates what ajmartin said: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Do-I-need-Core-3-to-do-CLAD-exam/m-p/1402686#M546312
"Also be aware, I've spoken to quite a few CLAD exam takers in the last year and they all agree that the current CLAD exams are much harder and trickier than the sample exams here on ni.com. One taker for instance missed only one question the first time he took the sample CLAD exam but failed the actual exam by a couple questions. So make sure you're overprepared!"
Someone on the NI community made a pretty comprehensive list of preparation materials here:
    http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-14014
Additionally, quite often we work with preparing people for the CLAD exam so I made a video examining a very common type of CLAD question:
    http://blog.sixclear.com/post/2702910705/clad-exam-prep-1
You can take a look at the notes there which have a few more links to CLAD preparation resources. I'll include this one where someone on the NI community made a pretty comprehensive list of preparation materials:

    Good luck!

  • Do I need Core 3 to do CLAD exam?

    Hi guys!
Since I first encountered LV in June, I have done a lot of studying on my own. I believe I have done more than Core 1 of the NI courses explains. Therefor I would like to do Core 2. I contacted NI in my country and they gave me a price for Core 2, Core 3 and the CLAD exam. Fair indeed, but I'm not quite sure I need Core 3. You see, I'm just making small programs for testing of electronics. The people who will use the programs work for the same company as I do. So Core seems to be overkill for my purpose with LabVIEW.
I believe most of you have at least done the CLAD exam. Would you recommend me to do the Core 3 also, or would Core 2 be enough to do the CLAD exam?

    Hi Evan
According to the "book" you theoretically need only Core 1 and 2 before taking the CLAD. In practise I would strongly recommend that you take the course and also take the time to work a bit more, say 3-4 months with LabVIEW before the exam. However this is my general advice and may not be applicable to you specifically. You can always test your skill level with the CLAD preparation material to see how you fare.
When it comes to Core 3 I think it is one of the best courses to take regardless of the CLAD. It goes more in depth into the different structures, introduces new more advanced concepts (some of my favorites are User Events and enum/variant cluster with a queue) and how to structure your entire development practice. Even though you say now you will only develop small applications for internal use these can quickly grown to something unmanagable and cost you a lot of time if you haven't thought in terms of Scalability, Readability and Maintainability, which are the three key concepts of Core 3.
    Hope this advice helps

  • I needed to reset my iPod touch because my pass code was changed and I didn't know what it was, but now iTunes wont let me restore it what do I do?

Please help me!! I needed to reset my iPod touch because my pass code was changed and I didn't know what it was, but now iTunes wont let me restore it what do I do?

You'll need to connect it to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it.  If iTunes asks you for this passcode before it will let you proceed, connect the iPod to iTunes in recovery mode instead using the instructions in this Apple support document.

You cannot.  If it is in recovery mode, the data is already gone.
Did you fail to make sure everything was on your computer before updating?

  • Need the approach for passing source to proxy and idocs

    Hi PI mates,
i  was struck in implementing one scenario.here is my scenario..i am getting source message (webservice call) and i need to pass it to table fields and as well standard idocs at the same time...for updating tables we are going with proxy.any how idocs will get update once we pass message. My question is how to go this approach..? we can create 2 structures at target  but we dont have any conditions for routing .
is there any approach..pls light me.
    thanks in advance,
    Loordh

    Hi Loordh
If you have an option of suggesting a change in SAP, this scenarios can be handled easily in SAP (ABAP).
I have seen cases when SAP does internal IDOC posting .So its possible for them to receive as proxy and call the FM to update the tables and  IDOC creation/posting at the same time provided the structure you are using have all the fileds to create IDOC and update tables.
Else if its not an option open for you then you can create 2 operations mapping and call them in interface mapping ,standarted Interface determination should work given timing of posting is not very critical here(may be a sec or two delay in operations)

I have firefox 5 on my laptop.
I dont have any problem with that, but I need to take an online exam and the software I am going to use does not support Firefox5, only 4.
The question is can I install firefox4 on the same laptop? Where can I find a copy?

    Hi arpriltime,
Have you looked at our [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-or-flash-plugin-crashes Flash plugin troubleshooting section]? There is a lot of useful information in there that should help you get to the bottom of your issue.

My iPhone 4 wont turn on, It wont go passed the charging icon and then when I take the charger out it says it needs charge. Its not the charger as iv tried several and holding lock and home button doesnt work please help!!!!!

    Hello there, Conorjl7.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some good, practical steps for troubleshooting issues with charging:
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476
    Particularly:
If your battery doesn't charge, or if your device shows a low-battery image, black screen, or "accessory not supported" alert, follow these steps.
Inspect the connector at the bottom of the phone:
Make sure that there are no bent pins in the connector.
Make sure that the connector is free from debris.
If there are bent pins or debris, please contact Apple Support.
    Otherwise, continue troubleshooting.
Make sure that the outlet you're using works.
Make sure that the Apple USB cable and Apple USB power adapter work.
Plug the device in to power and let it charge for up to 30 minutes. If you don't have an Apple USB power adapter, try connecting to a computer's high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be on.
If the device still exhibits an issue, try turning your device off and then on again while connected to power.
If the issue is persists, please contact Apple Support.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • My dad passed away and I need to know his Apple ID Password

My dad recently died and he let me download some of my apps from his account and I need to authorize my new computer with his Apple ID but I don't know what the password is. Is there anyway for me to obtain it? Thanks.

Johnb-one brought up a good point:
Are you sure you have a hardware crash on the computer?
I assumed it from what you wrote & the early answer you received, but if this was a progressive slowdown & the drive is still spinning (you’d probably hear some nasty stuff going on if the head were contacting the platen, or it would not be spinning).
I would take it to an Apple store, if you have one available to you --> to see what they might say, or certainly contact Apple support before dropping big money to have the data extracted by a service, just in case it isn’t a hardware crash. Get the best expert available to address it vs the first person who walks up.
While you get some great answers on here, there are no warranties.
Therefore, its best to use anything that sounds iffy, as food for thought & to frame your options before seeking expert help.
Further, you probably didn’t need to remove the drive - could have accessed it from the 2nd Mac via target mode, if it is accessible at all.

  • CLAD Exam

In about 24 hours I'm going to take the CLAD exam for NI certification. I had talked casually to our NI rep about this on the phone last week and was told I'd breeze through it with my experience. I guess, with that in mind I did not put any prep time in for the test until now, the night before. To be honest, after just taking the LV fundamentals exam online and the CLAD sample exam, I believe I've underestimated the prep time needed. Are there others out there that have taken the CLAD? If so, I'd be curious as to what you thought of the exam and how much time you spent preparing for it. Maybe I'm just spooking myself.

    Ben,
You didn't take the minute or so to reconfigure to your familiar environment, like during the code off? A good friend of mine didn't  pass the CLD for that reason. As to whether they will be having the exam in a specific version, it may depend on the exam site. Where I took it (at one of the select integrators in my area) they had just set up  the computers, so they had 7.1 on them (last spring). They didn't have floppies on the computers, which possed a problem when we were to finish up as we were supposed to save the exam to floppie and put it in a sealed envelope to send to NI.  You definitely want to be familiar with the environment, much of the difficulty passing the exam has to do with the time available to complete the exam. Unfortunately, in their wisdom, NI hasn't made it easy to configure LV 8's  environment to resemble the old versions :-( May help the newbies, but it definitley causes lost time for those of us who have gotten to "touch wiring" familiarity with the previous layout.

  • What to use to study for the Clad exam?

Hello to all who may read this.
I will be going for my CLAD exam in just a few months and I hope that I will pass it and finally attain my certification.
I have a question for anyone who can answer it. What materials should I consider using to study for this test? I have been to the Basics 1 and 2, with Daq following that. I was a novice using LabView and could write a fairly decent program measuring temperatures and frequency sensors / transducers. However, I transferred to a new lab and haven't been able to even crack the book to maintain my level of knowledge for approximately 1 1/2 years. I haven't ever built a state machine or anything like that. My test will be in about 2 months, and I need a little direction on the study materials. Any help for me cramming all this in my head would be useful and appreciated. Preferably an app engineer or a clad, cld holder advice would be most helpful.
Please email me with any questions and / or advice you may have.
    [email protected]
    thanx in advance,
    Myke

To add to one of the previous posts, if you can get a hold of a newer (7.x) version (while there are differences between 7.0 and 7.1 they're not huge) write programs using as many of the main concepts (Loops, cases, etc.,) as possible. It will help you in the CLAD exam, things that are theoretical will also be remembered in the practical part of your brain!. Plus, if and when you are ready to take the CLD exam being _very_ familiar with the environment will really help. The following only applies when you are ready to take the CLD exam:
As an addition to the previous post, (when you are taking the CLD exam), while you will be tested up to the version previous to the latest release, the test center may have the latest release on the computer you will use. Not much difference between 7.0 and 7.1, environment wise, but if all you have programmed in were the previous to 7.x releases, the environment (look and feel) of the "out of the box" installation is very different. The biggest problem that many have with the CLD exam isn't the difficulty of the problem as much as thinking of a solution and then implementing it within the test time. A good friend, and one of the best LabVIEW programmers I've known, wasn't familiar with the new lay out and didn't know that NI had given switches to make 7.x look like 6.x and the mental context switching and the looking for familiar tools in unfamiliar places cost him the exam (CLD) the first time he took it. The exam(s) are not terribly tough if you are prepared, but they are definitely not trivial either. Which is as it should be for them to have any validity!
    Study hard and good luck.

  • What are the CLAD exam topics?

    Hi guys,
Here I am a bit confised about the topics covered in CLAD exam. My confusion comes from the fact that in the NI site for preparation guidlines the topics outlined are as follows:
    Exam Topics (Outline):
    LabVIEW programming principles
    LabVIEW environment
Data types, software constructs, and Graphical User Interface (GUI) elements
    Variables and functions
    Simple design patterns
    SubVI design
    VI design and documentation
    Error handling
    Debugging tools and techniques
But if you scroll down at the bottom of the page is a download link with a PDF file. I've attached this file to this message.
In it the topics outlined include much more advances ones from Intermediate I and II such as event driven programming, TCP/UDP, Data Sockets, Custom Error generation, VI and application reference, dinamicaly loading of subVI and so on.
Can somebody who has passed this exam recently clarify me with what exactly is included in CLAD?
I'll be very thankful to any input because in 10 days I have to go and pass it.
    Thanks, Slavie

    Hi Slavie,
The topics for the CLAD are those you cited in your post :

  • Difference between Upgrade to Oracle 11g Exam and the OCP 11g exam

Is there a difference in the Oracle Database 11g exam and OCP 11g exam?
Say for example, i am an OCP 10g and I took the New Features Course for 11g. Then I will upgrade to OCP 11g
    or
I will take all the courses for 11g then take OCP (do not worry, money is not an issue in this case)
Is there a difference between the two in terms of the examination?
Will the exams for Upgrade to OCP11g and OCP11g the same?
Which one is harder? or easier?
Thanks. hope to see your feedback

I am sorry. But i din't quite understand the explanation.
Correct me please if i am wrong.
    As I understand you:
    1. I am on OCP 10g
    2. I will need to take the exams (no need to get additional training) that need to be taken to be an OCP 11g which includes the following:
    - 1z0-051: Intro to SQL 11g
    - 1z0-052: Admin I 11g (if passed then OCA)
    - 1z0-053: Admin II 11g (if passed then OCP)
Is this correct? Can I put it this way.
I apologise if i am being explicit here but I am just being able to cover all angles.
If a person is 10g OCP DBA (and has proof of this as a valid certificate from oracle or can see this on their certification status at certview.oracle.com .... I say this because some people with a 1z0-043 exam pass only may incorrectly claim they are a 10g DBA OCP) then the following routes from 10g DBA OCP to 11g DBA OCP are possible:
    1) By passing 1z0-050 ... the 11g DBA OCP should be granted with no further requirements other than the 10g DBA OCP
    2) By passing 1z0-052 and 1z0-053 ....... HOWEVER .....
..... It is possilble some 10g DBA OCP may not have passed an SQL exam in the past (1z0-051/047/-007/001) and if this is the case one of 1z0-051/1z0-047/1z0-007 will also need to be passed on this route (I would recommend 1z0-051).
( Essentially route (2) is valid for any DBA OCP; there is a 1z0-055 single upgrade exam for 9i DBA OCP's)
It is recommended to find and check your existing certification under certification history (+not exam history ... that doesnt matter for this purpose+) under certview.oracle.com before starting on this route.
