Passing down an iPhone 4 to someone.
I am planning to update to the new iPhone when it comes out. I want to give my iPhone 4 to my son. How do I get all my data/contacts, etc off of it and set it up for him? Do I have to completely reset the phone? Also, what is involved in setting up the phone for him to sync under his account on my Mac desktop?
Restore it as new.

Each user should have their own icloud account, otherwise they end up getting the same emails, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc. - usually not what you want. But if all have been sharing the same itunes ID, keep it that way, you can have different IDs for itunes and icloud.
If you already have another icloud account, and want to set it up on a device, then go to Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account. This only disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost on icloud. Then enter the account ID that you want to use.

basically with it being powered off hold the home button while plugging it in and keep holding the home button until it shows the iTunes logo with a chord and it will then let you restore the device in iTunes -

I had an iPhone 4 passed down to me. I read online that you can not use prepaid phone cards on the iPhone 4. Is this true? Also, I'm pretty sure the SIM card is internal on the 4(verify this?), so does this mean that I will have the same number as the person who passed the phone down to me? And is there any way for me to have my old number off of my old phone if I use a prepaid card? I have Verizon, but I don't plan on activating the phone with Verizon, as I want it prepaid.
Sorry forgot to add this, I heard the iPhone 4 SIM card is internal, and there is no way to retrieve it. Is this true? How will this affect me if the phone was handed down to me? I don't want the old number, I would like mine.

Maybe I imagined it, but I could have sworn that holding down the home button and sleep button at the same time until the slider icon appears at the top of the screen, and then engaging the slider icon, completely shuts down your iPhone and also removes all the apps that have accumulated in the multitasking bar. But, that does not work anymore on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). The iPhone shuts down, but the apps in the multitasking bar remain after you turn the phone back on. Did I imagine this feature in the past, or has something happened that no longer enables this functionality? Closing all those open apps in the multitasking bar one at a time is a PIA.

Is there a way to not have photo stream photos save to my iphone? i have many shared photo streams hoping to not bog down my iphone space. but alas the photos are are being saved on my iphone.

I bought an iphone 4s from someone off of craigslist. I went to update to ios7 (it was running ios5 for some reason) and when it finally updated it said the phone needed to be unlocked by the carrier. I don't know who the original carrier of the phone is or what to do about it.
I'm using Consumer Cellular and it my sim was working perfectly in my Iphone 4 for 7 months.
Did I totally get screwed out of $90?
I think the phone was jailbroken but I'm not sure.Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking.
Consumer Cellular is not a supported carrier.
Jailbreaking voids all rights to support from Apple and these user to user support forums. -

Any one device can create only three iCloud accounts: this is tied to the hardware, not the user account, and there is no way round this.
You will have to create an iCloud account on another iOS device or Mac, then you can sign into it on your iPhone. -

Maybe you are trying to restore at an old version of iOS...
Try to re-install iTunes on your PC.
If it still doesn't work check some solution on the "support" section of the Apple web site, and then (if you didn't find anything) you can try to go to an Apple Store -

On your Mac, login to iCloud.com, & try to locate your phone. This requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before you lost it. It also requires your phone be turned on & connected to the Internet. There is no other way to locate a lost iPhone, other than physically looking for it.
