Passing one row of a query to a function

I want to pass a query into a function one row at a time in
the same way you could pass an array to a function one row at a
time. I've read that queries are just CF structures under the hood
so I believe it should be possible. I just don't know the syntax to
reference a single query row (and all it's variables).
I don't want to pass the whole query to the variable because
I would like to do the looping outside the function. The idea is to
simplify and standardize the formatting and arrangement of several
variables (columns) in a UDF and keep the syntax to use the
function simple. Therefore, I'd like to avoid having to do stuff
like convert the query to an array. That would defeat the goal of
keeping it simple.
Thanks

I absolutely agree, as a standard "caveat emptor" sort of
thing. Which is
a shame because there's a wealth of functionality "under the
hood" which is
far more useful than the "official" approach to things.
To be honest, I treat the whole "that stuff is 'not
supported'" and "it
could change in future versions" thing with a liberal amount
of salt.
1) I didn't find the support from Macromedia very accessible
in the first
place, and have no reason to think it will be any different
with Adobe.
Other than in emergencies (that'd be once, in eight years), I
have never
used official support;
2) I've been watching a lot of the "undocumented" stuff for a
few versions
(like since 6.1), and it all still works;
3) I've had more problem with "fixes" to CFML issues breaking
workarounds
of the same than I have with using undocumented code.
Obviously that's
because I have 1000 lines of "normal" code to every line of
"undocumented"
code I use, but still.
Basically when one changes version of software, there's a
chance your code
will stop working. It doesn't seem any more risky to me to
use
undocumented features than documented ones.
Food for thought, if nothing else.

  • How to pass one row of a result set to a cffunction?

    I can pass the entire result set of a query to a cffunction,
    but the function only needs one row.
    The code below is a syntax error, where "3" is array index
    notation for the third row of the result set.
    What is the correct way to pass one row of a result set to a
    cffunction?
    Thank you.

    iirc, cf does not allow one to reference and access a row of
    a resultset
    like that.
    you will have to create a structure/array that holds the data
    from
    specific query row and pass that to your function. looping
    over
    queryname.columnlist list will make it easier and not
    specific to any
    particular query. make it into another function that accepts
    a query and
    row number as arguments and returns a struct/array of that
    row data (or
    automatically passes it to another function).
    sample code for creating a structure of specific query row
    data:
    <cfset rowstruct = {}>
    <cfloop list="#queryname.columnlist#" index="col">
    <cfset rowstruct[col] = queryname[col][somerownumber]>
    </cfloop>

  • HOWTO: Perform a Calculation on One Row of a Query

    Use this method if you can't perform the calculation at the entity object level--for example, if the calculation involves columns from more than one table, involves transient attributes, or if your view object is pure SQL-based (i.e., not based on any entity objects).
    First, you have to generate a view row class.
    1. Right-click the view object that represents your query and choose "Edit."
    2. When the View Object wizard appears, select the Java page.
    3. In the View Row panel, select "Generate Java Class" and "Generate Accessors."
    4. Click "Done".
    This generates a class called <VoName>RowImpl.java
    Next, you should edit the class and add a method that performs your calculation.
    1. Double-click the class to bring it up in the source editor.
    2. Add a method to perform your calculation, such as the following:
    public int sumCol1AndCol2() {
    int Col1Val=getCol1().intValue();
    int Col2Val=getCol2().intValue();
    return (Col1Val + Col2Val);
    Next, you need to export your method so that your client can use it.
    1. Right-click the view object and choose "Edit."
    2. Select "Client Row Methods."
    3. In the "Available" list, select the method you just added.
    4. Shuttle it to the "Selected" list.
    5. Click "Done".
    This generates an interface called <VoName>Row containing your method. You should always call <VoName>Row from your client, never <VoName>RowImpl.
    Now you're ready to call the method from your client. Here's an example of how you might do it in a JSP client:
    <jbo:Row id="myrow" datasource="myVoDataSource" action="Current">
    <% out.println( ((myVoRow) myrow).sumCol1AndCol2() ); %>
    </jbo:Row>
    Note that you have to cast myrow to your interface, since the method you created isn't on the generic interface jbo.Row.

  • Selecting only one row from a query

    Hi,
    I am using database version 10.2.0.4.0
    I have 2 tables:
    artist(artistid, artistname, titleid)
    trans(transid, datesold, salesprice, titleid, artistid)
    This is what i used and got the below results.
    SELECT max(worksold) AS mostworksold
    FROM (
    SELECT artistname, COUNT(t.artistid) AS worksold
    FROM table.artist a, table.trans t
    WHERE a.artistid = t.artistid
    GROUP BY artistname
    MOSTWORKSOLD
    12
    However I also want to show the artist name who sold the most work. So i added artist name in the select, but the result came out very different.
    SELECT artistname, max(worksold) AS mostworksold
    FROM (
    SELECT artistname, COUNT(t.artistid) AS worksold
    FROM table.artist a, table.trans t
    WHERE a.artistid = t.artistid
    GROUP BY artistname
    group by artistname;
    ARTISTNAME MOSTWORKSOLD
    John 3
    Mary 4
    Alvin 9
    Trevor 5
    Jess 12
    What should I do to make it show only this?
    ARTISTNAME MOSTWORKSOLD
    Jess 12

    Can any one give me clue ,how to find out which sub query returns more than one row in the following query .This is why smaller, simpler queries are easier to work with than huge ones - when something like this goes wrong smaller queries are much eaiser to debug. Unfortunately using smaller, easier-to-work with queries is not always an option
    Ganesh is right - you will have to dissect the big query bit by bit until you find the offending subquery. If there is another way I would like to find out about it too.
    The easiest way to do this is probably to use block comments to isolate parts of the query bit by bit until you find the offending part. If you carefully examine the subqueries you might be able to figure out which one is returning multiple rows without commenting everything
    Good luck!

  • Exists (SQL query returns at least one row) condition with MAX on 10.2.0.4

    I just wanted to note this on the forum..
    I'm using Apex 3.0.1.00.08
    My DEV environment has just been upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
    I created the following process to select some values into some items on my Form page.
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    into    :P11_STAT_YEAR
          , :P11_PCT_ID
          , :P11_STAT_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_STAT_PERIOD_TYPE_ID
          , :P11_MEASUREMENT_ID
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id;The process should run conditionally if there was at least one row to select...
    So I copied the SQL into the Process condition, removed the "into" section and set the condition type to be "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row) ...
    select  MAX(STAT_YEAR+1)
          , pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id
    from  plant_commodity_data pcd
        , stat_type stt
    where pcd.STAT_TYPE_ID = stt.STAT_TYPE_ID
      and pcd.pct_id = :P0_PCT_ID
      and stt.stat_type = 'PRD'
    group by pcd.pct_id
          , pcd.stat_type_id
          , pcd.stat_period_type_id
          , pcd.measurement_id;This worked perfectly until the DEV environment was upgraded from 10g version 10.2.0.2.0 to 10.2.0.4.0.
    The condition would fire even if there were no rows returning.
    I pasted the condition code into SQL Developer connected to the DEV (10.2.0.4.0) environment and it returned no rows.
    To solve the problem, I removed the MAX.
    You can test this using this code if you have access to the two versions... select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
    group by sysdate, 2Now I know the MAX isn't required in the condition as I'm just trying to find out if any rows exist, but it was there as I copied the code in... I was just wondering why this happened between 10.2.0.2.0 and 10.2.0.4.0?
    Gus..

    Hi Gus,
    try to execute
    select count(*) from dual where exists (select  MAX(1)
          , sysdate
          , 'Gus'
    from  dual
    where 1 = 2
    group by sysdate, 2)in SQL Developer. The above statement is generated by APEX for an "Exists (SQL query retruns at least one row)". Can't test it, because I don't have a 10.2.0.4.0 at hand.
    Does SQL Developer now show the same behavior?

    (select FUNC_GET_COUNTY_NAME(CCNTY1)

    But you might not need a select statement at all. Instead of a scalar subquery, can you just call the function:
    ,FUNC_GET_COUNTY_NAME(CCNTY1)

  • How to Group Few Rows into One Rows In Query

    Dear All,
    I've use the "Group By" syntax in my query, but when the result display, it still show few rows instead of one row.
    Current Results
    item         Jan       Feb        Mar
    A              10          0           20
    A              10          0            0
    A               0           5            0
    B               0           0           10
    Desire Result
    item        Jan         Feb         Mar
    A             20           5           20
    B             0             0           10
    My query is:
    /*select from [dbo].[oinv] T0 */
    declare @customer varchar (200)
    /* where */
    set @customer = /* T0.Cardname */ '[%A]'
    /*select from [dbo].[inv1] T1 */
    declare @fromdate as datetime
    /* where */
    set @fromdate = /* T1.DOCDATE */ '[%1]'
    /*select from [dbo].[inv1] T2 */
    declare @tilldate as datetime
    /* where */
    set @tilldate = /* T1.DOCDATE */ '[%2]'
    SELECT inv1.ITEMCODE, oitm.itemname,
    CASE WHEN MONTH(INV1.DOCDATE) = 1 THEN SUM(QUANTITY) ELSE NULL END AS 'JAN',

    WHERE oinv.cardname =@customer AND inv1.DOCDATE >=@fromdate AND inv1.DOCDATE <=@tilldate
    GROUP BY inv1.ITEMCODE, oitm.itemname, inv1.docdate
    I've tried to write in "Select Syntax" too, but still get the same result. I'm really have no idea what's wrong with my query. Thanks for all your help!
    Cheers,

    Hi Serene,
    in last query I forgot in subquery condition for customer (the sum was for all customers).
    Try this:
    SELECT distinct inv1.ITEMCODE, oitm.itemname,

    (select coalesce(sum(x.quantity),0) from inv1 x with(nolock), oinv xx with(nolock)  where  xx.docentry = x.docentry and xx.cardname = @customer and inv1.itemcode = x.itemcode and month(x.docdate ) = 2 and x.DOCDATE >=@fromdate AND x.DOCDATE <=@tilldate) as 'FEB',

  • Passing data row-wise from one VO to another.

    Hi,
    I am a ADF newbie so I have a slight issue which I am not able to resolve.
    I need to pass data from table t1 to table t2 which I am able to establish by creating viewlink between the two. But each time I press the 'CreateInsert' button for the VO made for t2,I need a different value to be passed. Basically, I need to pass values rowwise from t1 each time the user clicks the 'CreateInsert' button for t2 VO.
    Eg. If there is an itemCategory table which contains the attributes for an item such as Expiry Date,Food Code,Type of food then for the itemFood, each time I click the 'CreateInsert' button, a new row should be created where attributeId has to be passed one by one i.e. on first click Expiry date should be passed, 2nd click food code should be passed so that based on these attributes,corresponding attribute values for itemFood can be entered in the itemFood table.
    How can I achieve this in ADF? Is there an alternative way where instead of clicking the 'CreateInsert' button, attributeids cn be passed from itemCategory to itemFood?
    Any help in this case is highly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Chaya

    Is it possible to pass multiple values for same attribute from one table to another using viewlink?
    eg. If there are 2 tables- FoodAttributes which contains the type of food and the attributes associated with it.
    say,Type -Vegetable, Non-veg, Fruits then for vegetables,attributes can be weight,leafy,etc.
    Another table is FoodTable where we have food specific attribute which contains name of food ,attributes associated with it and the values for those attributes, like cabbage is name, attributes associated with it are leafy,weight and in values we specify leafy as yes and its weight in kg. So I need to pass the attribute names from 1st table to 2nd table. Please suggest a way to do this.

  • Passing multiple rows from one action to another

    Hi,
    I've build a Guided Procedure Process with two actions. Both actions call a Visual Composer Model (deployed as Flex).
    The Processdesign is:
    Process
    ---Block
    Action 1
    CO 1 as VC Model (Flex)
    Action 2
    CO 2 as VC Model (Flex)
    From the first vc model I want to pass multiple rows (its a vc table) to the second vc model. Therefor I've group the out-going parameters from model 1 with the in-coming parameters from model 2 at the block-level.
    Now, when I start my process I have two results in the table of  vc model 1 and will pass them to model 2. But only one record (always the first) is shown at model 2.
    Can you say me the reason for this? Have I configured the parameter-grouping false? Or isn't it possible to pass multiple rows at guided procedures?
    I'm using Visual Composer 7.0 and Guided Procedures 7.0 technology.
    Thanks in advance
    Claudia

  • Passing Multiple rows from one external webpart list to another

    Hi Folks,
                    I have almost spent 1 week looking into this without any success. I have an external list "List A"  (in a webpart) with one of the columns as "State".
    Another external list "List B"  (in a webpart ) has state and user as columns. In some case I want to pass 1 state and in another I want to pass multiple state.  Passing one state from List A to List B works fine. But Multiple state does
    not work because the webpart list has the property "Send First row to connected web parts when page loads".  If I disable this option then the web part does not pass anything. Is there a way to pass multiple rows from one Webpart
    external list to other?

    Unfortunatly the only thing that you can do a look up on in an external list is on the ID column, anything else and you are out of luck.
