Passing value from Parent form to popup?

Hello out there,
I am a complete newb so please execuse if this has been answered somewhere else.
I want to pass a text field that a user enters on a parent form to a enterable field I have pre-defined on a pop
up. I have seen some examples out there but non exactly what I need.
So a user finds some value in a text field on the parent form. ITs not found so they click on the "pop up" request screen/button which only has one enterable text field in that pop up. I wanted that enterable text field defaulted with the value from the parent form.
Are there examples somewhere out there to do this? Thanks in advance

Either pass it as request parameter or use JS to get it from DOM tree of the parent window.

• Passing values from a FORM to another FORM

Hi,
I have to pass values from FORM "A" to FORM "B". What is the best way to do this?\
Can I use a GLOBAL variable?
Thanks,
Marc.

I think he meant the global namespace.
You set a :global_your_name_here to a value and that value is available in your entire application. See the help file section on the global namespace for more information.
Forms parameters are parameters that you form picks up from the outside when it starts. The calling entity must supply them in the URL or they will be set to null. You set them up in the object navigator in the Parameters node.

• Passing values from a form to a page containing forms.

I would like to pass a value from a form to a page containing two forms (one of the forms is in a tab).Once the value is passed, I want the two forms to be executed with the value passed. Can this be done and how? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, this is possible.
I will give you a brief outline.
From the 1st form, you need to save the value, you want to pass to the 2 other forms, using the wwsto_api_session apis.
Then, using go() or call() from the Successful submission section, you need to go/call the page containing the 2 forms.
You need to write some pl/sql code in the 2 forms (on the page) to retrieve the value saved and perform the action you desire. The saved value can be retrieved using the wwsto_api_session apis.
However, both forms will not get executed at the same time unless both of them are in the same tab i.e. unless both forms are visible at the same time.
If the forms are on different tabs, they will get executed when they are being displayed.
But, there are ways to execute both the forms, if it really necessary, even if they are not on the same tab.
I will be posting the an example soon in this thread.

• Java Thread - difficulty while passing value from parent to child thread

Hi All,
I am calling a java program from a unix script .
My oblectives are
1)to pass value from scripts to main java class
2)main class should create a child thread and pass data to child and should return control back to script
3)child thread should run independtly of parent
The calling unix script is part of process and hence should return control back to its calling script immediately.
Findings
1)Without passing data thru setter getter /constructor method to child thread my objectives are met
2)When I pass the data from parent thread to child thread calling unix scripts wait till child thread finishesh its working
call.scr
java Main <list of Arguments>
Main.java
public class Main
public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception

public String data;
void setData(String data)
this.data=data;
public void run()
----------> processing on data
I think due to passing of data from parent thread to child thread (Inter thread data communication/Inter process communication)
the threads are not working as desired.
Plz anybody can suggest something.....

aschin,
You seem to be confusing Java Threads with Operating System Processes.
If you want you're java program to run in the unix background then you'll need to run it in the unix background. Java (being o/s agnostistic) doesn't provide process manipulation functionality (which would include the ability to throw itself into the background, as a C program can) in the standard API, and it's hard to imagine any third party producing anything as low level as a process controler... so yeah, just start the java program in the background... and you'll need to workout some interprocess communication protocol... named pipes have worked well for me in the past, as they doesn't suffer from the quit same performance issues as real disk files.
Good luck. Keith.

• Passing value from Portal Form as parameter to portal report

I have a portal form that I have created using the custom form layout editor to build/modify the display of the form. When I run the form and I have a record queried I would like to be able to click a link and pass the value of a field as a parameter to a portal report. For example, lets say I have a field on my portal form called assignment_id, and after I query a record assignment_id equals 1. I would like to use the value 1 from assignment_id as a parameter to a portal report. I am not sure how to reference the value of a form field, can this be done within the header, body or footer of the custom layout editor? Or can I somehow reference the value of a form field from the Additional PL/SQL Code section?
Has anyone tried this with success? Any info is appreciated.
Regards
Mark

Hi,
You can get the values of the variables from the session variables. Here is an example which gets the value of the field FLIGHT_NO and passes it on to a report.
While accessing the value of a field you should prefix it with "A_" (A_FLIGHT_NO)
declare
flightno number;
blk varchar2(10) := 'DEFAULT';
begin
flightno := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
p_block_name => blk,
p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
call('SJDEMO30.report1.show?p_arg_names=flightno&p_arg_values='||flightno);
end;
Thanks,
Sharmila

• Pass value from one form to another (Dev 6i)

How to pass a value/variable from one form to another called form in Oracle Dev 6i

1. One-way communication (calling form sends information to called form)
- using Forms :PARAMETER variables:
OPEN_FORM / CALL_FORM (form_name, ..., parameter_list);
2. Two-way communication
2.1. If Forms modules runs in different database sessions
(using "OPEN_FORMS (..., SESSION, ...);" called form runs in a new database session),
you can use:
- Forms global variables (:GLOBAL)
- global record groups, created using GLOBAL_SCOPE parameter:
rec_grp_id := CREATE_GROUP_FROM_QUERY (..., GLOBAL_SCOPE);
- database "global" Application Context (available from Oracle 9i)
2.2. If Forms modules runs in the same database session you can use methods in 2.1 plus:
- library package data; with SHARE_LIBRARY_DATA parameter,
Forms that have identical libraries attached can share library package data:
OPEN_FORM / CALL_FORM (form_name, ..., SHARE_LIBRARY_DATA, parameter_list);
- database package data (but, you must use get/set methods)
- database "private" Application Context (available from Oracle 8i)

• How to pass values from one form to another.

Dear all,
i have a table A i want to double a text item and open another form B. then setting values or adding values in it. i want to close the form and open the form A. the values selected in form B. i want to send to the form A.
please help me.
Muhammad Nadeem

Hi
To send value to the form A from B, you do this action.
1. Declare a parameter list:
pl_id paramlist;
2. Create the parameter list:
pl_id := create_parameter_list('ParameterLilst_FormA');
3. Add all value to the parameter list.
add_parameter(pl_id, 'variable1', text_parameter, 'valueOfVariable');
4. Open the form B and you send it the parameter list.
open_form('B', activate, session, pl_id);
NOTE: In there form B you might have some parameters having the same name of the variable added to the parameter list:
e.g.: :parameter.variable1

• How to pass value from report table to Popup window

suppose i have a report region
from query
"Select * from emp"
i need to get a popup when i click on the row,

i have written javascript in the report template, by passing #COLUMN_VALUE#

• Passing value from MD form to bind variable in report

I have an MD form, after I insert I want to redirect to a form and pass a value out of the detail section to the form to use as the value of it's bind variable. This works well on normal forms, but I cant seem to get it to work on the MD form. Below is an easy example and this doesnt work for me.
MD form master dept/detail emp, code under the save button:
doSave;
declare
l_empno integer;
l_url varchar2(2000);
begin
l_empno := p_session.get_value_as_NUMBER(
p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK',
p_attribute_name => 'A_EMPNO',
p_index => 1);
l_url := 'SCOTT.EMP_RPT.show?'| |
'p_arg_names=empno&p_arg_values='
| |l_empno;
portal30.wwa_app_module.set_target(l_url,'CALL');
end;
The form displays the empolyee information based on the value of empno from the MD form. The url looks like this http://hostname/pls/portal30/scott.emp_rpt.show?l_arg_names=empno&l_arg_values=
so no rows get returned because there is no value, if i fill it in with a empno it works, so i know the report works, it just isnt the get_value isnt grabbing the empno from the MD form.
null

I figured it out, the save button on a MD form, the doSave; clears out the form fields so do a get_value_as will not work b/c there is nothing there, you need to get the value before the doSave; the below code will work.
declare
l_empno number;
l_url varchar(2000);
begin
l_empno := p_session.get_value_as_NUMBER(
p_block_name => 'DETAIL_BLOCK',
p_attribute_name => 'A_EMPNO',
p_index => 1);
doSave;
l_url := 'scott.EMP_RPT.show?'| |
'p_arg_names=empno&p_arg_values='
| | l_empno;
portal30.wwa_app_module.set_target(l_url, 'CALL');
end;

Hi Praveen,
The concept what we have observed is When you click on Submit the values were sent to GP. There GP framework takes care of all these. After that when you try to login to Portal and click on GP Inbox and try to open the application, what ever the data that is sent previously will be retrieved.
Due to some reasons like Delegation and other conecpts where GP will not fit we have scrapped GP and got back to workflow. There we have used the concept of Portal Webservice inorder to send the data to R/3 by clicking on Submit button.
We have successfully implemented the Adobe Forms Offline Scenario using Portal Webservice.

• How to pass values from one form to another form

Hi,
I have two forms. Say Form1 and Form2. I am having a field called employee number in form1. I have button named Next in form1.
When the "Next" button is clicked I want to pass the employee number entered in form1 to form2 and display this number in form2.

Hi,
You can make use of the call/go api in the success procedure of the form. Here is a sample code.
declare
ticket_no varchar2(20);
flight_no varchar2(20);
blk varchar2(30) := 'DEFAULT';
begin
ticket_no := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
p_block_name => blk,
p_attribute_name => 'A_TICKET_NO');
flight_no := p_session.get_value_as_varchar2(
p_block_name => blk,
p_attribute_name => 'A_FLIGHT_NO');
go('<product_schema>.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=1384225689&p_arg_names=_sessionid&p_arg_values=&p_arg_names=ticket_no&p_arg_values='||ticket_no||'&p_arg_names=flight_no&p_arg_values='||flight_no);
end;
This sample passes the values of ticket_no and flight_no to another form.
Thanks,
Sharmil

• Pass Value From One Form to Another and Populate Join Table

I have a table “std_controls” and a table “actual_controls”. The standard controls table is updated with the expected business control or process. The actual controls table is updated with the control or business process the company actually
has in place. These two tables may be updated at different times by different individuals. Later I need to be able to map the actual controls to the standard controls. I have done this before using a join query which then matched the primary
keys and populates a new table with the joined keys. What I would like to be able to do is this: Have a form open, “form1” (which is where the standard controls are entered). The user could then click a button which would open another form,
“form2”, that listed all actual controls at that time from which they could choose. The user could then select the actual control on “form2” they wanted to map to the current standard control on “form1”. The user could select the actual control
on “form2” by selecting a check box. The effect of this mapping would populate my join table.
I have seen other posts that describe doing something similar, but I need more help on how to actually set it up. Thanks for your help.

Hi jdmcleod,
According to your description, I don’t understand clearly about your requirement.
But I think you could access “form1”/”form2”’s control in either of “form1” or “form2”, so you could have a button in “form1” or “form2”, then in the click event get these forms control’s value (e.g. checkbox) and update the database.
For example to access other form’s checkbox value:
Dim f As Form
Set f = Forms!OtherFrom
MsgBox f.Controls("Check11").Value

• How to pass value from report to form?

Dear,
I built a report and I create button on report too. This
button will show a form that I want it to automatically show
receivable values from report so that user don't complete them.
So I create a button on the report . I enter Javascript in
PL/SQL Code tab in '...after displaying the footer' as follow :
htp.formOpen
(owa_util.get_owa_service_path||'portal30.wwa_app_module.link?
p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=1736929105&p_arg_names=_show_h
eader&p_arg_values=YES&p_arg_names=GNO&p_arg_values=1&p_arg_names
=QNO&p_arg_values=2');
htp.formSubmit(null,'New Answer');
htp.formClose;
GNO , QNO is value which I want to pass
As you can see, the above code can pass only static value.
But I want to pass values that is the condition of this report.
I mean,such as, this report show data that gno=1 and qno=2 and I
want to pass these values to form. So both value will appear in
gno and qno field.
So please tell me what should I do. Please help me. I don't
know how to do it. I look forward to hearing from all of you.
Please!!!!!! Don't hesitate to answer.
Thank you very much
Sirin Kittichotpanich

Hi Marc,
Yes, you have it correct in what I am trying to do and if I put a default value in the hidden item on page 2 and run it then that works fine. I just can't get the value from the form passed to page 2 for some reason. There are actually 22 items on the form that can be filtered but just using COREID for simplicity. When I run the form I am just entering a value in the COREID field to try and return those records. Most of the other items on the form are displayed as Popup LOV(fetches first row). Would the values of all these be done the same in a comma delimited list for the items and values? I was trying to get at least one of them working first. Here is the search result that comes up in the debug window:
Search Results
0.01: Item: P2_COREID HIDDEN
0.01: show report
0.02: determine column headings
0.02: parse query as: MOTEAMSAPEX
0.02: binding: ":P2_COREID"="P2_COREID" value=""
0.02: print column headings
0.02: rows loop: 15 row(s)
No data found.
Here is the SQL statement:
select coreid, serialnumber
from MOTEAMS.V_ASSETS where
instr(UPPER("COREID"), UPPER(:P2_COREID)) > 0
The branch settings are:
Set these items: P2_COREID
With these values: &P1_COREID (also tried this with period at the end)
I am new to this and not familiar with apex.oracle.com. How would I go about posting to that site?
Thanks,
Pam

• Passing multiple character values from parameter form to PL/SQL

Hi,
I am passing multiple character values from parametr form into
the report query and a PL/SQL procedure. It works fine with the
query, when I use &variable. But, it doesn't compile in PL/SQL,
so I just used the :variable, but not getting any records in the
PL/SQL procedure. Any suggestions?
sincerely,
gj

gj / Fedro,
Only using the &referecne, you can pas a string / multiple character values and this would work for query only.
The bind parameter in PL/SQL wouls support only single value
Thanks
