Passing video through the mini (HTPC)

I currently send video out to my television via HDMI from a receiver. I would like to instead input this video signal to a mac mini and output from the mini to the television (i.e. pass the video signal through the mini on the way to the television). My functional goal is to be able view the receiver input windowed - or full screen - on the mac desktop without losing any of the video quality at the television.
What is the best way to get the video input into the mini?

Depending on the source and the output of which it is capable, an El Gato product may help.

How can I get my 2010 macbook pro to send signal out through the mini display port?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

  • What type of license should the user be assigned when passing transactions through the DI Server?

What type of license should the user be assigned when passing transactions through the DI Server?
We used to assign indirect access licenses to users that were just using the DI Server.  We have one add-on developer that says that the user has to be a Profession license. Current environment is SAP B1 9.0 PL10.  My understanding was that you could have up to 10 users assigned to a single DI Server license.

    Hi,
    From the license guide,
Indirect Access – has access to any SSP solutions (developed with the SAP Business One DI-API) only. The Indirect Access license is bundled with the DI server. Users who have an Indirect Access license can access a limited number of application forms, but cannot perform any functions with the SAP Business One application. Users who have an Indirect Access license can access an unlimited number of SSP solutions

  • Can I capture video through a mini display port on a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro?

I want to run my xbox through a mini displayport adapter into my Mid 2012 MacBook pro to record gameplay. I understand that at one point the 27" iMac's supoorted this feature to an extent. I'm open to other options for inputs, ie: composite cables from the xbox or even VGA. I own a capture card already I'm just interested to see if there is a way around using it to save space and the mess of extra cables.

  • Using S-Video w/ the Mini DVI to Video Adapter

I just purchased a MacBook last week and I also purchased a Mini DVI to Video adapter for it so I can use the built-in DVD player to watch movies on my TV. I have a composite to composite cable and that worked fine when I connected the cable between the Mini DVI to Video Adapter and my TV. However, when I tried to use a S-Video cable and connected that between the Mini DVI to Video Adapter and my TV; then I got no picture at all. All I saw on the TV was a picture of the MAC desktop w/o the dock and the movie or nothing else played at all.
Is the composite connection a better connection for the MAC, or, are there some settings I need to work with on the MAC to get the S-Video connection to work?

I managed to figure this one out, by fluke. The MacBook has to be powered on and ready for user input prior to connecting the mini DVI to video adapter with the s video already connected to it, and to the TV. Once I did it this way, it worked fine. I just thought I'd share this.

  • Playing iPod Video through the TV

I recently purchased the AV Connection Kit. I set it up and successfully played videos and sound from my iPod through the TV. However, when I try to play regular music I do not get any sound. Since the sound from my videos plays, why not normal music. Is there a setting on the iPod that I need to look at. Any advice would be apreciated. BTW I am using the latest firmware. Thanks

Yes I did try a different AV port on the TV. Unfortunately I got the same result.
I thought it might be a setting on the iPod. To get the video to work, I had to set "TV" to "ON". I thought there might be one for audio, but not found anything.
Thanks for your sugestions any way.

  • Editing video on the mini

Will the mac mini be able to support Final Cut Express HD and possibly Final cut pro? Do I need the 1 GB upgrade or will it work reasonably well with the 512? I am going to major in video editing so I need a computer that will be able to handle Final Cut programs.

I use Final Cut Express 2 and iMovie HD on my mini (with 512Mb RAM) and both work well, though Final Cut might benefit from more RAM. If I were using the system for video as a primary task, I'd certainly opt for 1Gb as a matter of course.
It would be wise to add an external firewire hard drive to capture video and provide an improvment in performance. Without this, as per a recent discussion on drive performance, you might find Final Cut Pro a little lagging in responsiveness for regular or crucial use.
Like Nick, I've used FCP on a G4/450 powermac quite happily, and the mini has rather more power.

  • Why can´t I pass videos to the timeline?

I was working fine, and suddenly I couldn´t pass my videos to the timeline, when I try to do it there´s a hand and a circle like indicating it is blocked or something. Why is this? How can I put it off?

Hey! Hang on... I was wrong about the Gspot settings being exactly the same. My newly captured video in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 (800MB file size) also says "File Length Correct". My video originally captured in Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 (it says 500MB file size, but it's actually 8.9GB) says:
    "Corrupt AVI Header:
This is an invalid AVI file due to corruption of the data in the header. This is a serious problem, and this file is not likely to playable (I'm not the one who typed this sentence all screwy and without end punctuation)
Details: While processing chunk /RIFF:AVI, found bad length value 1069461800 at file offset 0x0000fc94"
Just to check if the other camcorder tape that I transferred in had the same problem, I checked my other video file with a supposedly 1,820MB file size, though it's actually 10.2GB, and that file says "File Length Correct".
So it looks like this is not a file corruption issue with upgrading from Adobe Premiere Element 3.0 to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, but possibly a corrupt file. However, it works fine now and I haven't come across any video problem yet.
This also doesn't explain the bass boost problem, but I am going to focus on that now.
Thanks everyone for your input, and thank you Steve about the Gspot tip!

  • Passing variables through the URL String

I have a template and outside the basic html - all the content is grabbed from a db. I want to use 1 template to generate all of the other pages for the site. So basically, the only way to identify the page would be through the URL string.
    So, something like -
    www.mysite.com/template.jsp?page_section=aboutus&pageID=1
That string would query the database and output the content for page 1 of the about section.
Does this make sense and where would I start to learn how this is done?.
    Again, I appreciate your help.
    Mark

since database connections are costly affair i better use
jsp include tag ratter then getting dadta from database
assumming that u can devide your comman pages in 4 parts
    just assume
    top - logo
    bottom - common links
    center - data
    left - menu
my jsp page would look like this (aboutus.jsp)
    <%@ include file="top.html" %>
    <%@ include file="left.html" %>
    <%@ include file="aboustus.html" %>
    <%@ include file="bottom.html" %>
    2) disclaimer.jsp
    <%@ include file="top.html" %>
    <%@ include file="left.html" %>
    <%@ include file="disclaimer.html" %>
    <%@ include file="bottom.html" %>
this would reduce ur maintainnce as if u want to change top logo only top.html needs to be changed and it would affect in all pages

  • Does my MacBook passes audio through Mini Display Port or not?

I recently bought a Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter in order to display my MacBook on my TV. Other users of the same adapter publicly stated that they got video AND audio out, but I got only video.
I've been searching this online for two days now and I still don't know why (I even searched this support forum, but I must admit that I got a little lost and decided to write my own topic). All I discovered was that some MacBooks have this capacity (to port audio along with video through Mini DisplayPort) and others don't.
I'm using a white MacBook unibody bought new and latest on late 2009. It's the first model with multitouch trackpad and without FireWire port. Its model name is "MacBook 6,1", I guess.
Does anybody know for sure if It CAN, in fact deliver audio+video through the Mini DisplayPort if I'm using a compatible HDMI adapter?
    Thanks.

These models pass audio through the display port:
iMac (Late 2009), MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), MacBook (Mid 2010), and Mac mini (Mid 2010) supply multichannel audio (up to 8 channels) and video signals over Mini DisplayPort. To connect your television or other HDMI devices to your Mac, use select third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that conform to the VESA v1.1a DisplayPort Interoperability Guidelines. The following adapters adhere to these standards:
    - Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support
    - Griffin Video Display Converter (Mini DisplayPort to HDMI and DVI)

Check your port for any dirt or debris. Check your system prferences, for the correct sttings
    Try a PRAM reset.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Is there a way to view video via the display AND TV out at the same time?

Is there a way to display the video output for supported apps on the display as well as through the TV out at the same time? To explain my setup briefly, I'd like to have the front seat passenger in my vehicle be able to hold the iPad and watch video while the A/V cable runs through the car system and displays on the ceiling mounted TV for the back passengers.
As of right now, it seems as though it will only allow for one display at a time, and in this case, only showing video through the TV out. I don't know if the iPad has the processing power to mirror outputs to the display and the TV out at the same time, though I imagine that it should.
So, does anyone have any ideas on how to make this possible, if it's possible at all?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Ipod freezes when playing video through dock

Okay, this is a challenging one. I will be surprised if someone can help me figure this one out, but I will be very grateful!!
Picked up a brand new 60gb 5th generation video ipod the other day. 1.1 update already installed. Everything worked great. Was able to play videos through the AV dock, no problem, and was able to hook it up to the JBL stereo for the ipod, no problem.
Here is where it gets interesting. I took an avi video from my digital camera, and used Quicktime Pro to convert it into a .mov Apple Quicktime movie. I am using Windows XP. I then imported that .mov movie into itunes. Then I right clicked on the file and told itunes to convert it into the ipod format. I then hooked the ipod up to the computer, and the video was transferred to the ipod with no problems.
Then I was able to play the video with no problem on the ipod screen (not hooked up to the AV dock). Then I inserted the ipod into the AV dock that is hooked up to my tv. I played videos this way without a problem, before I loaded this new home made video. When I played the new video, I answered Yes to Tv Out, and right after that point my ipod froze up. No video played at all. Then I had to reset my ipod.
I tried this again several times, with the same result. This was now happening with regular videos that I downloaded from itunes. Also now, when I hooked the ipod up to the JBL stereo, and just tried to play a song, the ipod would freeze up. However, songs and videos play fine when the ipod is not hooked up to a dock.
It seems to me like my home made video somehow corrupted the software drivers for the port on the ipod.
Then to fix the problem, I finally had to do the dreaded RESTORE. I could not update the ipod, because I was already at version 1.1. I tried rolling back to an earlier version, but the updater told me that the update was not compatible with my ipod.
The RESTORE did fix the problem. The ipod was completely back to normal. I could hook it up to the JBL and the AV dock with no problems. Until...yes, I tried playing the home made video again. I just wanted to see if it was a fluke. Same problem came back....arrghhh!
He is another weird observation. I can start the video playing on the ipod, without it hooked up to the dock, and answer Yes to tv out. The video starts playing, then I can insert the ipod into the dock, while it is still playing, and the video plays fine on the tv, through the dock! Until the video finishes. Once the video finishes, the ipod freezes up again.
I wonder if this is a hardware problem, and I should just return my ipod. It seems like a software problem to me. I think if it is my home made video that is corrupting my ipod, I think itunes should be smart enough to not copy something to my ipod that is going to corrupt it.
Ha..ha...wow, sorry that was very long-winded. Anyone have any suggestions?
Dell Dimension 2.8ghz P4   Windows XP   2.25GB of RAM

All I can suggest is to re-encode the video as m4v with QT Pro, there might've been a problem in encoding. Also, try sending this same video (setting TV Out to Yes) with the iPod not plugged into the dock and with an Apple RCA cable, if you have one, hooked up to a TV. If that works, the dock connector might be damaged (unlikely) but it's possible. So once you've re-encoded, see if the dock situation works then. Good luck.
