Passive or active VGA-splitter for Mini?

I would like to mirror my Mini display with VGA-input to a 32 inch LCD-TV with VGA input. Should I use a passive or an active VGA-splitter?
mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Active splitter devices appear to the computer as a
monitor, and then transmit the graphical data to the
displays connected to them.
I think that point needs to be repeated and reinforced!
Since the mini has a display detect line in the video connector, it receives signals from compatible devices that signal what they are and helps the system determine what resolution and refresh rate to set. An active splitter can feed appropriate data back to the mini, while a passive one can only relay what it receives from the display. If both displays are the same, that wouldn't be a problem, but if they are different, the mini will receive a detect signal that at best will suit one display but may not match the other, since it does not know there are two displays connected.

  • Fake Apple Macbook Pro Air VGA-Adapter for mini DisplayPort

    Hello everybody,
in November 2009 I ordered a VGA-Adapter for my MacBook Pro at Amazon.de. I used it occasionally over the last year. But today it didn't show anything before a presentation. I went to a local Apple service provider and he said it's a fake one. I didn't see another one the last year, but he's right. I made some pictures you can see here:
    http://www.abload.de/img/img_09276ay7.jpg
    http://www.abload.de/img/img_09283len.jpg
I'm not sure but I thought I would get an official one when I bought this. I checked my feedback at Amazon (because it's from a third party seller) and I mentioned that I was wondering why the adapter was in an official DVI for mini DisplayPort packaging. It was 10€ cheaper than the regular one. Not too much to think it's not official.
It's way over warranty time, but I'm ****** it's not working after using it only 10 times over the year (just for presentations). What can I do after buying a fake one? Go back to the seller or not?

Going back to the seller would be your only recourse, although Amazon might be able to assist if the seller advertised the adapter as a genuine Apple part and sold you a fake instead. After this much time, though, there's probably nothing Amazon can do, and it's doubtful the seller will do anything either since the adapter apparently worked without problem for over a year. Even if the part were genuine Apple it would be out of any warranty at this point.
Time to just buy a new adapter, it would seem, if you haven't already.
    Regards.

If a new SIM is activated on the same account for the same number, any existing SIMs for that number are deactivated.
Why exactly would you care if the SIM in the missing device still works or not?

  • Optimum Settings for mini display to VGA

I just got a mini display to VGA cord for my aluminum mac book and hooked it up to my 37" Vizio LCD HD tv and was wondering what the best settings would be to put it on as far as the resolution goes.

ok and one other question, Is there a way to close the lid on my mac book and not have the display go away on my LCD tv? Because if i leave the lid open its fine but if i close it then the computer basically just goes to sleep.

  • Difference between passive and active data connection mode for  FTP

    Hi,
Does any body have the idea of passive and active data connection mode for the transport protocol FTP.
I have one server with FTP, I have to pick the data from this FTP to XI.
What is the difference between active and passive data connection? Does XI supports both the connections?
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi
According to SAP Note - 821267
Q: Does the File Adapter support active data connections when connecting to an FTP server?
A: Up to and including SP14, the File Adapter exclusively uses passive data connections. Starting with SP15, active connections will be available.
    Difference between active and passive,

  • VGA Splitter issue

Hi there, new to this forum and am after some guidance. ..
I have recently purchased a Mac Mini and wanted to connect it to two displays, one standard monitor and one LCD TV in the next room via a 5m VGA cable. I purchased a powered VGA splitter and relevant VGA cabling and it worked to the monitor and to my Samsung 40" LCD TV via the VGA port and got really good resolution.
I have subsequently replaced the Samsung TV with a Sony 40" KDL-40V4000 LCD TV which also has a VGA port. With exactly the same setup I get flickering horizontal lines lines on both the TV and the monitor.
I have subsequently discovered that if I remove one of the displays from the splitter the remaining one works fine.
I have now purchased a VGA switch and even switching between the two I get the flicker.
I have been through the TV settings and played with SwitchResX to no avail
    Any suggestions would be appreciated
    Thanks

    David,
Many thanks for the reply and sorry about my delayed response.
    I currently have the resolution set to 1280 x 768, 60Hz.
I have tried a number of resolutions that work fine, mainly at 60Hz.
The Sony LCD supports this resolution according to the manual.
The monitor is an Acer AL2016W which supports up to 1680 x 1050 which is it's native resolution.
I have now tried every possible configuration of VGA cable. The length does seem to have an impact in that the longest cable is worst affected and the shortest is a feint flicker. If the lengths are about the same however there is a similar flicker on each.
Again, any suggestions would be much appreciated
    Thanks

  • W520 Owners: Compatible Splitter for combo Headphone/ Microphone Port

The w520 has a combo Headphone/ Microphone Port. You can use either a headphone or a microphone but NOT both UNLESS you have a ...
    1. Headset with special 3 ring jack  such as
          a.  ThinkPad In-Ear Headphones (#57Y4488)
          b. 3.5mm TRRS Plug type Headphones for Smartphones  (e.g. iphones, etc.) -- so you use the same headphone/mic you use for your cellphones (but lesser sound quality)
     2. Splitter - so you can you use your own microphone and your own headphone/ stereo speaker (for better sound quality)
    This solution was found here...
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Where-is-the-Stereo-out-on-the-W520/ta-p/47306...
But a list of Compatible Splitters was not listed...
The aim of this thread is to verify and list compatible Splitter for W520 combo Headphone/ Microphone Port
The specs of the splitter are as follows: (Kindly verify if correct)
3.5mm (1/8") TRRS male plug  (aka Smartphone plug)  TO
     3.5mm TRS Audio-Out Jack/ female plug  AND 3.5mm Microphone-In Jack/ female plug
I browse online and found possible splitters. (In no particular order)
    1.  Sound Professionals Part# - SP-SMARTPHONE-CABLE
    http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-SMARTPHONE-CABLE
--it was mentioned in the details tab that it is compatible with " Lenovo T410, T410s, T510, X, L & Edge computers"
so it is possible that W520 is compatible if the other Lenovo have the same combo port

It was mentioned that they have  "Premium shield coax a/v cable for EMI/RFI interference...DC blocking protection ... microphone impedance matching"
They say it will "work with most 3.5mm mono or stereo microphones except for for unpowered ECM (electret condenser mics). If your microphone is an ECM without batteries then this special version of the adapter KM-IPHONE-2TRS-ECM is the adapter you would need."
So I guess the the type of microphone will have an effect also on what splitter to get.
    On this site..
    http://www.wfu.edu/~yipcw/lenovo/2011/T420s/review/
It says that on using the Part# KM-IPHONE-2TRS, with a "mono mic [Sony F-V410 cardioid imp 600 Ω vocal] in , it reverts to internal microphone for some reason.) and headphone"
So there can be incompatible mics for any splitter you use... OR is the defective splitter or the computer setting that is wrong...???

Kindly tell if you have used any of this on your laptop. And tell...
    1. Compatible with your headphone? (what kind you use)
    2. Compatible with your microphone? (what kind you use)
    3. Any problems with sound?
I hope we can continue this thread to list the compatible splitters for the Lenovo Thinkpad W520... Please do add if you have seen other brands.
    Thanks

    Hi all
To be frank, some of the multimedia laptops, with SRS Premium Sound, etc. are having the same speakers as W510 / W520 and is very loud (AFAIK, Dell Inspiron N5110 have the same speakers as W520 and the placement is just below the palmrest like surround sound). Theoretically, it makes the sound less focus and soft, but it works well with that laptop.
The Mic and Speakers are powered by the amp / drivers. The hardware in fact is very good, the only problem with it is the driver / software not well written. Good Hardware + Bad Software = Bad Product.
If you want a better sound / mic, you could try my Dolby Home Theater v4 solutions, hopefully it could meet more than your expectations and solve your problems without any cost. In fact, Dolby GUI is more customizable than Conexant. Most of us would not think it's more complicated, as techies would prefers more options to have fun.
    1. I don't even need a external mic, an internal mic does the job with this fix.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/W520-bad-microphone-Usable/m-p/528497
    2. Dolby makes the sound much better and louder with correct settings. If not, my post are not able to stay active till now, reaching 100+ posts.

    Installation steps:
Simplifications of installing and optimizing Dolby Home Theater v4 threads. Message 77 and 78 + Attachment.
    3. Get a USB solution only if you need multichannel audio, stereo / wave mix or studio grade quality, if you are just using for entertainment, etc. W520 with Dolby Home Theater v4 should be more than sufficient.
    Cheers

  • How to : Active/Passive and Active/Active Enterprise manager R3 (10.2.0.3)

Soon I will implement the above named version of EMR3 on a AIX 5.3.3 platform. I have a couple of questions about active/passive and active/active implementations. These are the questions I have:
    Basic install:
Implementing 10.2.0.2 and upgrading to 10.2.0.3 works fine on host 1234 (already done that).
Does anyone have experience with an implementation on host 1234', in other words, a virtual host (different IP-numbers on the same ethernet adapter)?
    Active/passive
Lets assume that the implementation on server 1234' works fine, how can I realise a cold failover situation? On AIX you can move/transport the volume group to the failover server, activate the volume group, mount your filesystems and the application is running again. This is the theory but ....
    Active/Active
If this 'basic' install is done, can someone briefly tell me how to migrate the OMS repository to a RAC implementation? Is this possible or do I need to setup the repository for the OMS at the start of the implementation. Has anyone experience with using virtual hostnames, RAC and EMR3.
Can anyone tell me where I can find some good documentation instead of reading all these thousands of pages of Oracle's guides.
    Help would be appreciated.

  • I have iMac G5.  Need VGA adaptor for display port.

I have an old iMac Power Mac G5 8.2.  I need a VGA adapter for display port so we can use it in our TV studio in my elementary school.  What kind do I need to get?
    Mini-DVI and mini-display don't fit.

    2nd Display Support:
    Mirroring Only*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    1024x768*
    Details:
Apple reports that this system has a "VGA output port for video mirroring on an external display or projector", and supports output resolutions of "640 x 480 pixels at 60Hz, 800 x 600 pixels at 75Hz and 1024 x 768 pixels at 75Hz". However, the hardware is capable of using an external display in dual or "extended desktop mode", Apple just blocked the capability in firmware to protect sales of more expensive Macs. Unsupported third-party hacks are available.

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Adaptors needed for Mini & 2 24" CRTs, performance, eventual switch to LCDs

Many questions. Considering getting the Mini, but want to continue to use my two 24" CRT displays for the time being. I'm a little confused about the ports on the mini; will I need an adaptor for one or both displays? When I get some more money together, and switch to LCD screens, will I need any adaptors (or adaptors that are different than any used for the CRTs)?
I'm thinking of getting the 2.0 and upgrading to 4GB RAM. I do book work (mostly text, some photoshop, rarely files over 20MB). I think the 2.0/4GB configuration will run the two monitors, but does anybody think not? And, I notice that some mfrs are selling 26" and 28" monitors. Would two of those work? Would two Apple 30" displays work? Not that I have the money for even one of those. Just curious . . . .

    eke,
I just got the mini you are describing...2.0 with 4GB RAM. I haven't beaten it into the ground yet...(had it for only 24 hours) But I can confirm it will run 2 monitors. Up to 1920x1200 on one and possibly 2560x1600 on the other, depending on your connection to the mini-DisplayPort.
It comes with an adapter that will hook up to a DVI monitor. The VGA (is that what your 24" CRT monitors are?) adapters are $29 each and you'd need to get 2 of them. One mini-DisplayPort to VGA and one mini-DVI to VGA. The mini-DisplayPort to DVI is $29 also. For the Dual-Link it's $99.
Unless you're running the new Apple display you'll probably need an adapter when you upgrade still. And to be honest I'm not sure about running 2 of the new Apple Displays with the mini.
