Password and find my ipad

If I use a password on mhy ipad mini (no 3G) that will prevent anyone else from getting into it (assuming they don't figure out the password).  So if they can't take it online, that means the find my ipad feature can't help me, right?

Adding to Gail's thoughts, consider this:
If your iPad is stolen, the thief will see a dark screen and have no idea at that time whether you password protected the iPad or not.  Once they click a button to see the screen, assuming there's WiFi in the area, the iPad will be connected to WiFi!  That will occur before they know the machine is password protected.
I admit I've never tried this, but I believe Find My iPad will start performing its mischief before the thief even starts to understand they're being asked for a password.

Entering your Wifi password will not - unless I'm missing something completely - disable your iPad. The only thing which will disable your iPad that I'm aware of is entering your passcode for iPad incorrectly multiple times.
If this is the case then please see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212
If you have forgotten your password for your router the WPA or WPA2 key as it's also known as they you will need to log in to your Router and setup a new WPA(2) key.

  • How it is possible to put on the password for  (find my ipad)

Hiii .... Can I noe how to turn on the password for (find my iPad )

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

My iPad is stolen and find my iPad in the settings is of what is the solution

Change your passwords, tell your carrier, tell the police, tell your insurance company, buy a new phone. There is no way to trace it without having Find My iPhone enabled.

No, but you can log into any of their accounts on your computer at iCloud.com and see their devices.

Do you have access to old emails or could you ask a friend to provide you information about your iCloud ID? If not, do you rember your ID for "Find My iPhone", because it could be the same ID as for iCloud. After you have obtained the information about your ID you can reset your password here: https://iforgot.apple.com

You have run into Activation Lock, an antitheft feature introduced by Apple in iOS 7.
You will have to get the previous owner to sign into iCloud and turn off Find My iPhone for that phone. Without that you will never be able to activate this phone.
If the shop where you purchased this phone cannot provide you with that information you need to return the iPhone and get your money back.
The receipt from the shop is not sufficient to get Apple to clear the Activation Lock. You would need the original receipt from when the iPhone was purchased originally from an authorized reseller.

  • AppleIDs and "Find my iPad"

Our school owns all of the iPads we distribute to our students.  Does anyone have a "best practice" on how to insure "find my iPad" is enabled and under our school AppleID or at least an AppleID we can control?

While Apple doesn't make it readily available, there is a 100 device limit to iCloud account, although functionally it is closer to 50.
What we have done is create an iCloud account for each cart (if you use carts) and have all devices associated with that cart using that iCloud account (usually 30-32 devices per cart).   We also have a facility iCloud account for each school/facility in the district to put the devices not associated with a cart into.
You could also create one for a specific group or room , even if not in a cart.
We turn everything off but the find my phone, otherwise the 5G would be gone in a flash.
Because losing the iCloud account password has become such a big deal with ios 7, we now have all icloud accounts in the district associated with a district email address so that we can keep track of the passwords.  We used to allow teachers to use their own account.

  • I lost my ipad and find my ipad apps was deleted from my ipad

Help if I can find my ipad since I can't find ...find my ipad on my icloud it only shows find my iphone ...and I suspect may be find my ipad apps was deleted before I lost my ipad

The Find My iPad app has nothing to do with actually finding your iPad. It is an app that works like the iCloud version - to locate your iPad if lost or stolen. Remember that in order for Find my iPad to work, your device must be connected to the Internet via WiFi or cellular. If the device is offline, you will not be able to locate it. Find My iPad does retain it's last know location for a short time, but if that time is expired, it will appear as offline and no location will be available. This is of course assuming you did actually activate Find My iPad. If not, there is no way to track it anyway.
If you were using iOS 7 even if they wipe the iPad, they will not be able to activate it. Not helpful to you now I know, but if you don't get it back you know they can't use it anyway.

  • Supervise mode and Find My iPad?

    Hi -
We are a school with 75 iPads that students take home. With the new security features of iOS 7 that prevent anyone from reregistering an iPad after it's registered to someone's iCloud account, I'm wondering how this affects our ability to "wipe" the iPads each year.  Obviously when a senior graduates, they give the iPad back, but if they have enabled Find My iPad, won't this mean that when I try to give out these devices again, it won't let someone else activate it?
The key here might be that we are utilizing Supervise mode on the iPads.  We run them through Configurator to Supervise them so we can use Meraki Management to push out a configuration profile with the Global Proxy Filter set to our Lightspeed server.  Am I correct in thinking that because we've "Supervised" them, that even if a student registers it via iCloud, that we will still be able to wipe the device next year?  And that if we did NOT utilize Supervise mode, we would have a problem with this?
Thanks for any info you have.

    HELP!!

    Hi,
A remote wipe resets to factory settings.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/find-my-ipad.html
Setting a Passcode lock would have prevented anyone from using your iPad.
If you had a message setup on the iPad to return the iPad and you wiped it, that message is gone.
It states clearly here: "I understand that I cannot undo or stop this action".
It's hard to think straight when something like that happens and it's understandable, and hopefully you'll get your iPad back. I would definitely file a police report. Hopefully you had the serial number wirtten down and saved in a safe place for identification purposes.

  • Ipad 2 and "find my ipad" problem

i got an ipad 2 (64g wifi) last week, and cant get "find my ipad" to show it. find my ipad displays my iphone, but wont show the ipad, and in devices, it isnt listed. all other location services on it are working for other apps.
First, i spent a few hours online with apple support, with no luck. next, a few hours of online chatting with mobileme support and no luck. then, i was told to go to my local apple store where they played with it for an hour, and finally told me to go and do a system restore and wipe it to the original settings. did this, and still no luck. I have tried it through 3 different networks, one of them being an apple store.
Thus far, I have checked the mobile me settings (a few hundred times), mutiple reboots, hard resets, deleted and reinstalled the account and app, now even a system restore, but still the only thing that shows up is my iphone in find my ipad. the worker at the apple store had me log into one of the display ipads (same wifi model) and create a mobileme account on it, and that ipad showed up instantly. Did the same thing on mine, and copied the settings, but it still wont show my ipad.
Tonight i talked with a tech at the applestore again, we tried the same things over again, with no luck. tomorrow, im supposed to take it in to likely be replaced, has anyone run into this, or have any last ideas?

Was having same problem. Removed the account and created it again when it asked if I wanted to enable location service I replied NO. After the account was created then enabled the location service. Got a prompt that by enabling location service I will lose the sync answered ok and violla the ipad2 showed on find my iPhone
Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
