Password and ID changes

My husband and I both have iPads with the same password and user ID.  If I change the password and ID on my device will it override his password and ID?  I want each devise to have separate ID's?

No .... but you will have to continue to use the old ID if you want to update apps that you bought with that shared ID. If you change the ID on one of the iPads and you download an App via past purchases on that iPad with the new ID - you will associate the device with the old ID and lock yourself out of the new ID for 90 days.
Unless you absolutely have a need for two separate ID's, I would not create a new one.

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

        Hello tonyv217, help is here front & center! To setup the alternative password, you will want to re-setup the fingerprint scan . Go to settings, Fingerprint, Fingerprint manager and replace the the finger print so that it asks for the alternative password upon setup.     If you both share an Apple ID then she should just go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive From and make certain only her phone number and email address have a check mark.  Have her Tap on any that are not her's and the check will clear and her Messages will work fine.  Do the same on yours.

    Hi Gail it is a separate apple id used on my old iphone. I now have a new appleid and password which is functioning though the new phone is bringing up my old apple ID

    You can try getting the password reset via this page : http://iforgot.apple.com
    If you can't then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the password and your questions reset.

    Okay so my mom wanted to put the iTunes account under her name and I got it ready for her to put in her email and password and she changed it but she messed up the email by adding another letter or something.     I cannot change my password and email address because I am based in the UK and not in the US. When I try to make a change and save it, it says I have made a mistake on the fields marked red and asks me to complete the parts in red including: the state I live in and because I am not in a state it doesn't allow me to change my details.     That is good.  In that case, your one and only account has not changed, just the login credentials you use for it.  All your previous purchases will remain associated with that account, and the new login.
    In essence, an AppleID is an email, but it has two parts.  One is the login email address and password everyone traditionally thinks of as an AppleID.  But that in turn is linked to an account with Apple.  As long as you use the manage Apple ID portal to just change the email address and/or password for your exisiting AppleID, then the internal account tracks along with those changes as well.
    However, on your iOS devices, you will need to log out and then log back in with the new login credentials:
    settings -> iTunes & App Stores - tap your AppleID, and choose log out.  Then log back in with the new email address and new password.

    New iPhones don't come setup with an Apple ID/Password. What you're experiencing is called Activation Lock, & unless you know the original Apple ID/Password that was originally used to first activate this phone, you won't be able to reactivate it.
    You can login to iCloud.com, from any computer, use Find My Phone to locate & erase the phone. But, you'll still need to know the original Apple ID/Password to reactivate it.

    I changed my Apple ID password and successfully validated it.  Problem is the iPad App Store won't recognise me anymore.  if I select an App to update it asks me to enter password, then says "You have not verified your Application ID.Tap OK to view the instructions on how to verify your ID.".
    A new pop up box then appears saying an email has been sent to my address.  The box to resend this is greyed out and the bottom line says "your email has already been validated successfully. thank you."
    Any suggestions on how to solve this problem and force the iPad to let me update or download Apps again?

    Same issues here. I try and log into face time and cloud, it tells me my email is not veryfied. I go back through the link sent in the verification email and, low and behold, it tells me my address has already been veryfied.
    Getting really annoyed now. I have tried using a different email to log in with, but not even getting the verify email in my inbox, even after it states it has sent one.
    CMON APPLE!!! Please resolve this glitch.

    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
    Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
    In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
    If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
    The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
    The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
    Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
    Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
    Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.
