Password corruption in Apple Mail

I spent two hours on the phone with both Apple and my server with no solution
Problem, I find that if I access my email accounts on my Iphone instead of my Imac, it causes password rejection errors when I try to access the same accounts on my Imac. I am forced to re-enter my POP passwords again to get my Apple Mail working again on my Imac.
I use three servers: Ntelos, Yahoo and .Mac. The error only happens on the Ntelos account.
Can anyone suggest what might be causing this?

rodney,
It sounds like what you are experiencing is POP lock. Assuming you are using the presets on the iPhone for Yahoo and .Mac (which are IMAP), that might explain why it is only happening with your Ntelos account. You can find more information about POP lock here:

Hope this helps,

  • Email attachments corrupted in Apple Mail

Hi, I just had to clean-install OS X Lion (10.7.3), I synched my e-mail accounts (Gmail apps account) with Apple Mail (5.3) and some attachments (mainly PDFs and DOCs) are now corrupted when trying to open up in Apple Mail. In the Google Mail web access the corrupted attachments can be opened perfectly. Has anybody experienced this issue?

Mark, I don't know if you're still following this thread, but I've solved my problem.
The issue is bizarrre but seems to be connected with slow connections (I saw this mentioned elsewhere but had discounted it as rubbish!).  It seems the reason the pdf's will not display is that they are getting truncated by Mail.
What I did was to wait until I was connected to a fast internet connection and then rebuilt my mail box (under Mail | Mailbox | Rebuild).  I tried rebuilding the mailbox before but I was still connected with my phone and the problem persisted.
It seems to have fixed the issue for me.  Hope it may help you.

  • Password rejected on apple mail constantly

I've called apple and at&t daily for hours to see if there is a solution. my password is constantly rejected. I put it back in and it's rejected a few minutes later again. Mail won't work until I put it in again. I use an airport extreme N connection to my dsl. Mail works on at&t's web site without a problem. I've reset my password. At&T says its a problem with apple mail, apple says its a at&t problem. My neighbor has exactly the same problem and gets the same circle. I've come to believe that maybe it is a amail problem. Anyone else have the same problem or a fix or should I just wait for a lepard fix, I hope. It even freezes my iphone wireless retrieval during the time I have to retype my password in the box.

I have been having a similar problem on our two Macs (iMac & MacBook) for a couple of weeks. I have at&t Yahoo! DSL and the password rejection problem really seemed to start with regularity when at&t changed their setting to require use of SSL on the specified ports. I have tried lots of things including repairing my Keychain, deleting and re-building my Mail account, and repairing permissions but I may have just stumbled onto a fix.
I think there may be a conflict between Mail's password authentication with the SSL and Keychain. I deleted all Keychains that had anything to do with at&t (POP, SMTP etc) and although it hasn't been very long, the tests I have done indicate the non-remembered password problem may be fixed. In the past when I tried deleting the keychains, I would always choose to have Keychain remember the password if the box would pop up. I think this may have been perpetuating the issue if indeed it is a conflict with Keychain. Don't know if it's a long term fix, but looks promising so far. If anyone else tries this and it works please let us know.
    Thanks,
    JMcK

  • Gmail apple mail password

I am using Apple mail to send/receive mail from Gmail Account, it was working properly. Yesterday I changed my gmail pasword from website for securiy, and then my Apple mail send a warning. So naturally, I changed my password too in Apple Mail Gmail Account, but it seems it doesn't work. It continued to say I can't connect to imap.gmail.com
    I've tried:
    1. Check Apple mail for gmail account setting, no problem.
    2. Check online gmail account IMAP is enabled.
    3. Delete the gmail account in Apple mail, recreate again, doesn't work!
    4. Try my password on the website and i m sure i typed the same password.
It also failed on my iphone4S too.
    HELP!

For the Mac, try deleting the password entry in Keychain Access. However, if you are also having problems with the iPhone, maybe both systems are having trouble with the password itself.
Does the Connection Doctor (Windows menu) in Mail give any hints. You can also show details and run the connection doctor again and see what messages are passed back and forth. The gmail server may post something back that gives a hint above what is in the blinky light screen.

  • Apple Mail OSX 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard) - Exchange Settings

Hi, I've been going through the forum for the last two hours and found a few posts with people reporting a similar / same problem as I am having.
I'm trying to set up my RGU e-mail account using the Exchange 2007 option as I'd quite like both my address book and iCal to connect to the RGU server. However, whenever I try setting my account up as an Exchange 2007 account, I get the message that
+*"Logging in to the Exchange 2007 server "pod51002.outlook.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct you cannot receive messages"*+
Both my username and password are correct but even if I hit continue and manually populate all the fields Mail will not accept my password / username, although it will accept it fine if I set up Mail to access my university account (it's an rgu.ac.uk domain) via Exchange IMAP.
Now the strange thing is that it works fine with my iPhone when I set it up to access my university account using Exchange - no issues.
I have asked our IT department for help, but they are at a loss as what would cause this problem. I have consequently asked them to reset my password and once that's done and I try setting up Mail to check my University account via Exchange, it works perfectly fine and everything is set up automatically using the auto discovery delver I guess.
Now, to make things even stranger, once I change my password (after his has been reset by IT) I'm obviously being prompted by my iPhone for the new password. However, Apple Mail won't prompt me and works fine with the old password for some time - last time it worked for 2 months but once I then change the password to my updated password (my own one after IT reset it), Mail, once again, causes problems and won't accept my password. If I then delete the Exchange account and try setting it up again, I once again get the message reported above: "Logging in to the Exchange 2007 server "pod51002.outlook.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct..."
Does anyone have any ideas how I may be able to fix this - RGU's IT department has worked with me on this issue for a very long time now and they can't figure out what causes this issues and all should be working just fine and if I do use Entourage, again, it works just fine, though I do have 4 different e-mail accounts (MobileMe and 3 Gmail ones), I don't really want to run two e-mail clients.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys may have to offer.

thanks j.v. yeah i've tried all that but still it doesn't solve the problem .... it something which started after the sophomore OS X Upgrade ... I do wonder if that may have somehow 'messed' up Exchange integration... but the oddest thing is it works for a while once my IT department resets my password ... and continues to work with the 'reset password' although I changed it

  • IPhone apple mail stopped. blank screen ideas?

I use Apple Mail on my iPhone, collecting mail from other accounts.
I have a blocked screen - simply blank and I can't move anywhere.
I've tried removing what I believe was the offending account but that had no effect.
Apart from going back to factory settings has anyone any idea what I might do?

Went to cPanel and changed the password. Changed Apple mail password setting and all works fine.
So how / why can a valid working password suddenly become invalid and not working? Literally receiving and sending emails one minute and the next it stops working. mystery.

  • Apple Mail will not store my password

10.8.4 Mail will not keep 3 of my account's passwords. They are all IMAP hosted at Dreamhost. I can access them on my iPhone, iPad, and web just fine. I've:
    - rebooted
    - reset the passwords at Dreamhost
    - deleted the accunts from Mail and added them back
    - run the keychain firstaid (no joy). The passowrds do not ever show up in keychain
    The Console continually shows:
9/4/13 10:47:17.197 AM Mail[4619]: Error updating the value of the Internet password for [email protected]@mail.xxxxxxxx.com: -25295
9/4/13 10:47:17.197 AM Mail[4619]: Error finding an Internet password for [email protected]@mail.xxxxxxx.com: -25295
The password field under Mail ->Preferences-> Accounts is blank, even when I retype it, save it, click a different account, and immediately look at the problem account again
The weird part is that my mail comes in sporadically, but then Mail will ask for the password, I key it in, and immediately the same box pops up asking for the password. It's like there is a "glitch" with it saving it into the Keychain, but like I said, Keychain First Aid didn't pick up anything.
    Any thoughts?

    @Eric- Keychain wasn't locked
@Linc- Thanks. I did that and got the following from the Console:
    9/4/13 1:51:17.023 PM com.apple.SecurityServer[16]: Sandbox denied authorizing right      'system.keychain.create.loginkc' by client '/Applications/Mail.app' [336]
    9/4/13 1:51:18.245 PM sandboxd[495]: ([336]) Mail(336) deny authorization-right-obtain      system.keychain.create.loginkc
So i figured that the Keychain was corrupted. I tried FirstAid again, but it didn't flag anything, so I deleted the Keychain file.
Update: Ok, so after resetting the Keychain and getting error messages that the Keychain file was invalid, I figured the file was corrupted. I reset the default Keychain (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1544) and then ran Keychain First Aid (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296) and that fixed it. All of my Keychain passwords are wiped now, but Mail is communicating with Keychain just fine.

  • HT2623 I forgot the password for my .mac account and cannot log into it from Apple Mail.  I have an iCloud mail account but did not convert my .mac account to iCloud.  How can I log into my .mac or .me email?

I set up .mac, including email, around 2006.  I believe my .mac account became a .me account, but I continued to receive email sent to .mac until about March 2013.
I accessed my .mac account using Apple Mail on an iMac running OS X 4.11.  I'm still using that machine.
In July 2013, I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X 8.5, bought an iPod Touch and set up an iCloud account.
I forgot my .mac password and I want to open an email message sent to my .mac email account.
When I attempt to log into my .mac account using Apple Mail, my password attempts are rejected by a .me mail server.
Is there any way I can restore my access to my .mac or .me email?
    Thanks,
    William Postman

Did you try deleting the mail account, then adding it back?   I've read a lot of times that is what needs to happen in order for it to work properly.

  • TS5223 Updated to iOS8. I don't remember the password for my old Apple ID or the password for that e-mail. I can't delete the iCloud account without knowing it, although my iTunes and everything else is set to the new Apple ID and password. Help?!

I keep getting pop-ups telling me to sign in to my iCloud and it's very annoying. I have no idea what the old password was, and I don't really have a way of changing the old password because I also don't know my password for the e-mail address connected to it (it kept telling me that the answers to my security questions were wrong, but I'm not sure what other answers they would have been). Therefore, I created an entirely new e-mail and a new Apple ID and everything else is set to that ID... except iCloud. Is there any way to correct this, or am I out of luck?

If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID, and if it is an earlier version of your current ID*, do the following:
Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).
    * If that's not the case, you'll have to contact the Apple account security team and ask for assistance resetting the password for the old ID: Apple ID: Contacting Apple for help with Apple ID account security.  You'll have to be able to prove your identity to them before they will do this.

Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • Creation of a new Keychain Entry (Internet password) for Apple Mail

I am working on a Mail Assistant to set up a new Mail Account for Apple Mail.
My problem concerns the creation of the Keychain Entry for the POP Account with which Apple Mail is set up (by my custom Mail Assistant).
I am able to create a Keychain Entry with all relevant User Data, the Keychain Entry also appears to be valid (I ran the Keychain First Aid Tool to check it), but when I start the Apple Mail App, it does not recognise the created Keychain entry, but is asking me to enter the Password for the POP Account which I set up successfully.
Any help is appreciated for giving me a hint of how Apple Mail recognises or links respectively to its adherent Keychain Entry.
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

Couple of things to try Theo...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Apple mail crashes on start-up: user account corrupt?

    Hi
I have installed all the latest software updates, but my Mail keeps crashing. I have cleaned (reset) plist and emptied and cleaned the address book, but the problem persists.
