Password for Mail folder

I attached my Gmail, and yahoo accounts to iPhone, My friends, brother used to play games on my iPhone. so is there a way/application to keep password for complete Mail application (I want to keep my accounts, and I don't want to show all my emails to my friends). So whenever if someone click on 'MAIL' folder, iPhone must popup message like 'enter password'.
Thanks..

No, such a feature does not exist on the iPhone.

I Recently changed the password for mail, on iMac. I can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password, then telling me it's incorrect. Totally confused.

If your password is accepted, and Mail connects to the account, but you're prompted for the password repeatedly, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Note: these steps don't apply if the server rejects the password. That's a different problem.
    Step 1
When prompted for the password, check the box marked Remember this password in my keychain.
    Step 2
Check that the keychain is working.
    Step 3
Check that the default keychain is unlocked.

How can i set a password for my folder?

Mac OS X does not natively include a method for passwording only selected folders. You can either get a third-party utility such as Knox (from AgileBits) or you can create an encrypted disk image (using Disk Utilty) and keep the files you wish protected in that disk image.

Yes - you want to go under Notifications, Mail.   Set each acct the way you want.

  • Mail Account NO LONGER stores Passwords for Mail Accounts

Since my last restart my mac mail accounts (.mac, company, etc) no longer STORE passwords for either the send or smtp receive... Anyone experience this before? I'm going to try and toss the mail pref files and even delete my accounts, but since it's happening to ALL of my accounts (5) at the same time I'm concerned that I'll be wasting my time until I fix what's gotten broken...

Since these password are stored in your Keychain, try running Keychain First Aid on your Keychain via Keychain Access.

  • Rejected password for mail account...

    Hello.
How can I remedy this ongoing issue of the Mail program asking for the password multiple times per week? (quite often, I'll have to enter it 20 times in the course of 5 minutes for it to actually get accepted).
I'm amazed that this hasn't been fixed yet, but until that happens, how can I temporarily remedy it?
This is the prompt that I get:
The POP server “mail.comcast.net” rejected the password for user “alexguitar1”
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
    thank you.

Check out your Keychain Access (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access). Two things you can do:
    1. check whether you have two or more keychains for your email account - ideally you should have one per mailbox. Delete any extra ones you don't need (check that the password of the remaining one is correct).
    2. Still in Keychain Access, select the Keychain Access menu and choose "Keychain First Aid". You cna verify and repair any Keychain problems here.

  • PassWord for Mail?

Is there a way to setup mail to ask for a password BEFORE! opening mail? I don't like the fact that anyone can open my mail if i'm away from my computer. Thanks

Chances are your username and password used to login to your mail is stored in your "login" Keychain. Items on your "login" keychain can be used by apps simply because you have logged in. In Applications/Utilities there is a application called Keychain Access. You can create a new keychain (give it any name that you want) and move the mail related usernames and passwords to the new keychain. That way, OS X will prompt you for the password for that keychain (you can set it to your normal login password) before it can hand off usernames and passwords from that keychain to Mail.app
The other suggestions that people have mentioned are good, too. One way to "lock" your system without having to log of is to go to fast user switching (if you have it enabled in the menu bar) and select "Login Window".

  • Password for Mail Application

Is it possible to set a password for the entire Mail application? ie. when I open it up, it asks for the password?

You can set the email account PW to not be stored in keychain. That would stop mail from contacting the email servers.
Why would anyone else be on your account anyways? If no one can go on your account, they can't get anything in your Mail program (there is no such thing as perfect security, however).

  • Iphone 4 saves wrong password for mail accounts

Every time I put the right password in on my mail accounts and now my itunes acount in icloud the password changes to the same 8 letter password that is not the password.. it changes to this password for everything! as soon as I put the right one in and back out then go back in it changes the password back to the wrong 8 letter password.. what is causing this and how can I fix it? my mail won't send through sometimes and I cannot get icloud to to even work to back up files.. it has been like this for a long time, even before the new os 5.. I have done a complete reset, deleted the mail accounts and all that.. nothing has worked.. please help!

..they ask to update your password and then it just reverts to this 8 digit mystery password?
What is the problem with these passwords?

  • How do you reset password for mail in iCloud??

Somehow my mail address has gone from Mac.com to me.com and now to icloud.com
I still receive mails from Mac and me .com but not icloud.com, although when I now send a mail, it forces me to send it via icloud.com.
This summer I was on my iphone and I tried to get to my icloud account and it told me to reset my  password for some reason, so I did, and then I couldn't access it. So now when I goto icloud it tells me to reset my password, which sends me an email that gives me a link to restting on apple but with message saying the link is invalid!!! Thus begins the crazy circle where I do it all over again with the same result. My IT guy is equally baffled. So now I can't get any mail, it's insane!
    Any suggestions.

Your password for iCloud email is the same as for the whole of iCloud. You change it at http://appleid.apple.com - once you have done this you have to go to System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud and click the 'Sign out' button (on an iOS device it's 'Delete account' - this does not delete the account from the server).
You then sign back in again using the new password. Your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac/device when you sign out but will reappear when you sign back in.
You signature says you are using 10.6.7 - I assume this is incorrect as this is not compatible with iCloud: if so could you please amend it to prevent confusion.

  • The server forgets passwords for Mail?

Does any else get this and know the answer? On occasions a user sometimes gets the message: The IMAP server “address of server.co.uk” rejected the password for user (name of user).
However once I re-apply the password in workgroup manager using the same password it works? Why is this and how do I stop it? Thanks Rob

I assume you are talking about the admin account which was created when the machine was first setup????
Boot from your OS CD and look for option to reset password.
Password resets are frequently discussed, so searching the forums will locate info- also searching Apple's knowledgebase will bring up information.
It's not daunting, but you need to do a little looking...

Sorry, but Mobile Me is no longer. If you haven't moved the account to iCloud, then you may well have lost your old mail.
