Password incorrect when restoring from backup
I have restored my iPhone last night. After that I was trying to restore from backup, but iTunes keep asking me for password. I did not set any password for the backup before this. I have tried all the possible passwords but it keeps showing password incorrect! How can I solve this?
First, reboot your computer. Sometimes the request for a password is mistaken and rebooting will clear it. Then connect the phone and click on its name in iTunes. Is "Encrypt backup" checked? If it is then at some time in the past (and it could have been 6 years ago if you had an iPhone then) the box was checked and a password was entered. Or you have a corporate MS Exchange email account and your IT Administrator required that the backup be encrypted.
Either way you have to figure out the password. Try unchecking "encrypt backup". It will prompt for a password. Make an educated guess. It is a password that you have used at some time in the past. (Unchecking the box is a faster way of guessing than trying to restore.)
There is no other way to restore that backup, unless you have maintained iCloud backups. These do not require or allow passwords, because they are already encrypted with your Apple ID password.
If you are desperate there is a commercial product that can break SOME backup passwords if they are not too strong. Visit elcomsoft.com for more information. This tool is intended for law enforcement use, and is priced accordingly, however, they have a trial version that will give you the first two characters of the password.

Password required when restoring from backup?
I am trying to restore my iphone to the most recent backup (stored on my computer) and it's asking for a Password? It didn't ask for a passsword when I backed up my iphone (I did the backup earlier today). So I tried both my apple id password, and the 4 digit pin for unlocking it. Neither password was accepted.
I then was able to use an older backup, but it's 14 months old! Any ideas? My phone is missing all contacts/music/pics from the last 14 monthsWow. Yeah. That was it. It was my user account on the computer. I was thinking it would be the exchange account (they don't match), but it was the computer password. Thank you so much.

Error code: 16 when restoring from backup file
I've just restored my macbook pro and tried to restore from backup Photoshop file, now I get the code Error: 16. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thank you!
RoferrOpen the Terminal.app
Copy and paste: sudo chmod -R 777 /Library/Application\ Support/Adobe
Press Enter and supply your password if asked.
If that does not work, do a reinstall from the discs or installer.
Migrating Adobe programs from another Mac or restoring from Time Machine breaks the licensing.

Unknown Apple ID Password requests when Restoring from iCloud
Hi peeps
Background info:
iPhone 5 64GB unlocked, iOS 8.2, purchased from iStore new two years ago (not some craigslist special)
Has two Apple ID's used on it - my current one from my own country and an old one from when I lived in another country. No other Apple ID's have been used for any purchases on this iPhone ever.
Problem:
I decided to erase my iPhone 5 this morning to try and help with the sluggishness that has been plaguing it after 2 years of hard use. Everything went well and setup seemed normal. Then it got weird...
I am at the point in setup where I've now setup WiFi, entered my Apple ID details and accepted T's & C's, but I'm getting asked to "Enter the Apple ID password for tiffany*****@gmail.com to use for store purchases". This is one of 3 completely unfamiliar Apple ID's that I'm requested to provide the passwords for(plus one is a .ru email address, which makes me even more concerned). What I need to know is
Should I be concerned re my iPhone and Apple ID's security possibly having been breached?
Should I be worried about restoring from a (possibly) hacked iCloud backup and setup as a new iPhone instead?
Is this a common issue? Do other people find their phones requesting the wrong Apple ID password?
I'm opting to "Skip this step" on those accounts for now, but I'm feeling a bit concerned about the whole thing.
Any ideas/solutions would be appreciated!
Thanks

Did you use apps bought with different Apple IDs on your phone?
As I stated in my original post "Has two Apple ID's used on it... No other Apple ID's have been used for any purchases on this iPhone ever."
The problem is that the three additional Apple ID's I'm asked to provide passwords for are Apple ID's I have never seen before.
No one else has ever used my phone and all apps are downloaded through the App Store on my two ID's. To my knowledge, I've never done anything odd to create a security risk on this phone. I have never been asked to provide unknown Apple ID details on this phone before today. -
New photos/videos gone when restored from backup. Why?
Just got the iPhone 5 over the weekend, which was a huge upgrade from my 2009 3G!
I didn't get around to plugging the phone into my MacBook Pro until today. When I synced my new iPhone, I clicked "restore from previous backup", which then it put all my old photos from 3G onto iPhone 5.
However, when this happened, all of my SMS and photos/videos that I took over the weekend are now gone. I presume the iphone replaced the new photos with my old ones?
Is there any way I can get those videos and photos back? Please let me know!
ThanksWhen you restore from the backup you only get the data that was contained in that backup. You will lose any data on the device that occurred after the backup point.
Restore = Replace data on device.
It does not "add" that data to the existing data on the phone. -
Lost recent info when restored from backup
When I connected my phone, it automatically asked me if I wanted to restore from a previous backup. Without thinking, I clicked ok, and lost all my recent info - contacts, TM's, and songs, etc. Is there a way to get it back?
I've undone restoring my phone before, and it has worked, but I don't think I ever backed up my recent phone before it wrote over it with the old backup. To my knowledge, now that you have "restored" your phone using a previous backup, that's what you've got, if you didn't create a backup of your device prior to re-syncing. You should still be able to push your contacts from your email provider to update but any entered manually are probably gone.

I see no one has responded, I have the same problem as well except the album art shows when my ipod is connected to itunes, but doesn't show when playing the ipod alone.

Azure VM name when restoring from Backup Vault
I've been experimenting with restoring Azure VMs using Backup Vault and works great. This will solve DR needs VERY easily so thank you!
One weird issue (bug?) is that when I try to restore from a recovery point and enter a VM name, I get "Specified name is already in use" for names that don't exist at all within my account. This causes a slight issue since even though I can
rename the VM name within the RDP session, the name listed within the Azure Portal doesn't seem to change which could become an administrative nightmare down the road. Is this a bug? Is there a way to rename the name that appears in the Azure Portal?
Thanks.
-BenHi Manu,
I tried logging out and in of both portals but don't see the updated name (I renamed the VM an hour or two ago). Just so I'm clear, the host name does reflect the renamed VM name. However, the name listed in the various lists within the portal is not
updated.
In the screen shot below, the restored VM name was "WEB2-Restore". I then renamed the VM from with a RDP session to "WEB1". The "Host name" is listed correctly on this page but not the name in the label or heading:

Lost captions when restoring from backup catalog.
Restoring from my photoshop elements 8 backup catalog to Premiere Elements 12 running under Windows 8.1 was successful but for the captions which are not appearing. How do regain visibility of these captions?
Where did the pictures come from - where they taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, saved from emails/websites etc, or where they originally synced from your computer ? If they were taken with the iPad/saved from via kit/emails then they should be in the backup so the restore should have copied them back. If they were originally synced from your computer then they aren't included in the backup so you will need to re-sync them via the Photos tab if you want them back on the iPad.

Itunes locks at same spot when restoring from backup disk
Restoring from itunes library a movie, but halfway thru it locks up, tried making more hard drive space, rebooting, but each time it locks at the same spot while trying to restore this movie. The Disk is not scratched and was just made last night, other items on disk have been restored to library.
Movie was backed up from mac library and trying to restore it to windows itunes library (same itunes account), and successfully did this with another movie on same disk.
This movie is 2 1/2 hours, the first was 90 minutes.

“The iPhone “iPhone” could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (-1).”
I have not jailbroken the iPhone, i only have dozen or so apps, synced it every other day. tried the DUF mode before connecting it to the pc.
also, i tried downgrading back and restoring with the following ipsw packages: IOS 4.3.2, 4.3.4, 4.3.5 and 5.
different error code appears with each ipsw. that didn't work either!
in the last attampt it got through the whole progress bar (so it might now be a problem with the firmware), but then it err and gave me the same massage.

Text contacts when Restored from Backup on iPhone 4S show up as phone numbers
I upgraded from a 3GS to a 4S. Setup went smooth enough, but (almost all of) my texts are showing up as phone numbers instead of being connected to their respective Contacts. Texting works whether I text the "phone number" or if I text them as a Contact (for which their names show up properly in Messeges app). Any ideas on how to fix this? All my texts are still there... it's just REALLY sloppy and it's driving me crazy... =(
Are you on Verizon? Several other threads have had this problem. Solution below, see if it works for you:
Here is the summary of the steps I took to correct the issue:
1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, "Settings updated."
4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications
5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe)
6) Open the Message App to verify the fix.
If you are still broken, kill the Message App again, then reboot your phone.

Problem (-1) when restoring from backup after installing iOS5!
Made a backup before installing iOS5, now I can't restore it. I have repeated the "continue restore" probably 25-30 times, I have unplugged, restarted and rebooted until my face turned blue, I have tried everything I could find on online communities, and everything has failed so far. The data I had on the phone (contacts are on my computer, same with music and mail) is to 90% expendable, but it's that last 10% that I absolutely, desperately need! Silly me, I thought making a backup actually let you keep the backupped stuff...
APPLE, SOMEONE, please help, because I am at my wits end! It's baffling how a reliable company like Apple can release something like this, an update that somehow wipes out everything you have on your phone. I am begging you, give me my phone back!
"Couldn't restore because an error occurred." This is straight up Windows crap, it's things like this that made me switch to Apple seven years ago, for chrissakes!Getting the same problem here..

my song forgot his password. I reformatted as described above but when i went to restore from backup it asked me for the password again! now what?
Then you or your son has encrypted the backup in iTunes. This password is 100% whatever you or him put in when you turned on to encypt backups (its a check box in iTunes) and it has nothing to do with that code that was on the iPhone (unless by chance he decided to make it the same thing).
Anyhow, you can guess at an encryption password as many times as you like. Since it's a local encryption, there is no way to reset it. You either get it right eventually and then the restore will complete and you can turn if off in iTunes after that (using the password that worked), or the backup will never be usable without the password.
Keep trying to guess it until you give up, then just move on with setting the iPhone us as new.
Read this article. It has some stuff that may help you. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162 -
My iPhone has crashed during a sync and now I can't restore from backup as it is asking for password to load the backup yet neither the lock code for the phone or my iTunes Password are working... I have no other password to call upon and need the restore to retrieve info onto my phone, I am a real novice to this...... please help, !!!!
If anyone else is looking for a solution to this same problem, I was able to get it working looking through several older discussions.
The solution was to use the password that I had on my iTunes account the very first time I set up the iPhone about a year ago. I changed my iTunes password about 10 months ago; but apparently, the backups continue to use the password that existed when the phone was first set up.
A couple of troubling things with this are that 1) I didn't apply a password when I did the backup this afternoon so I don't understand why it was required when I did the restore a few hours later. and 2) it makes zero sense why iTunes would not be smart enough to use the current accout password when requiring the password to restore from a backup made with no password.
I thought iTunes and Apple were smarter than that. With so many posts stating exactly the same problem, it is clear that this is bug in the software.
Best,
