Password Log In

Good Morning folks!
A while ago I had to use the user name & password when logging into my computer. Now I can't get rid of it.
I just want to go back to where the screen saver comes on after 15 minutes, and it's NOT asking for a password when I return.
I set everything back to the way it was before, and now the screen saver is not coming on the same way as before!
In the image below I set the screen saver to "never", because I wanted to see if the computer still loggs me out! It does. Another screen saver comes on after about 20 minutes, and when clicked, it asks me for my password! This is annoying because I have to restart all my programs, and loose my train of work.
The screen shots below show the settings right now...what's wrong?
TIA!

Boot up from the Install disc and you can wipe out the hard drive, then install a fresh copy of Snow Leopard. the computer will be like a new computer out of the box.
hold down the C key to boot from CD and zap the PRAM too hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys at the same time after a restart it will chime and restart again.

  • Password log on is not possible

    Hi,
I just installed an IDES on Windows 2003 SP2, MS SQL server 2005 on a box with 2.8G CUP and 2G mem. The installation is successful and I can start/stop SAP instance. I failed logging on with account <sid>adm with the password i set during installation. I tried on client 000, 001, 066. None of them work. I see a a shortdump saying password log on is not possible - too many failed... in SAP Management Console on win2k3 box.
I tried SAP*/pass after I saw the shortdump. Not work either.
As this is my first attempt of log on. I wonder if there are other super user accounts I can use.
As I can't log on to the instance, the system is dead to me.
If I can't log on the instance from SAP GUI, is there a way for me to revive it from SAP Management Console?
    Many thanks

adm is the OPERATING SYSTEM user, you can´t login to the SAP instance with that user.
Check the official IDES installation documentation, you will find there the user to login in client 800.

  • Used mini mac - unknown password   log on - how to reset to base start

used mini mac- unknown log in + password - need to reset to base operation - tried the command-r - got to the utilities screen but the password/log in section would not allow "highlighting" to select.

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

    Hi,Welcome to Apple Discussions.

I.e. got to System Preferences > and disable the 'Automatically Log In as...' option.

  • 10.5.4 upgrade broke my email password log in?

On July 1 I installed the 10.5.4 security upgrade. Then whenever I booted up my Mac I get the error message "The POP server "postoffice.pacbell.net" rejected the password for user "dane1234", and asks me to re-enter my password, but doing so doesn't help; that is, I keep getting an email password login error message. This is a legacy email account through what is now AT&T (originally PacBell, then SBC Global, and now AT&T). I have run the Keychain first aid diagnostic and it says everything's okay. I logged onto my AT&T account and re-set my email password, in case it had gotten corrupted, but no help. AT&T says they've changed nothing and that my legacy POP of postoffice.pacbell.net and SMTP address of mail.sbcglobal.net are correct. Finally, I can send test messages to myself, and a test message sent by the AT&T tech support person was received. But I keep getting the "rejected the password" error messages. Also, I have received zero third-party emails (including junk emails) other than the AT&T test email and my own test emails for the last two days, which is unusual. Normally I get several valid emails every day, and perhaps 5-10 junk emails. Since this problem started with my installation of the 10.5.4 upgrade, is this a bug in the security upgrade?

Did your pacbell email problem start before or after you upgraded to 10.5.4? If after, was it immediately after? If so, then I think it's a bug in 10.5.4. If your pacbell password acceptance problem started before you did the 10.5.4 upgrade, then I would conclude that it was just a coincidence that my password acceptance problem started right after I installed the 10.5.4 upgrade.

  • Confusion about 'sysdba'; random user/password logs in as 'sysdba'

    Hi everybody,
I just installed oracle 9.2 enterprise edition. My problem is that i created a database after completing the installation and it seems that any random username/password is accepted if entered with 'as sysdba' option in sqlplus editor as well as the Enterprise Manager Console. Even if I type
    conn dseane/fdgdsg as sysdba
it logs in successfully as sysdba.
I want to take disable that feature. Can anybody please help me out here??
Also, can anybody please tell me the difference between 'sysdba' and 'sysoper'?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andy x

There is in fact a little more to it than that.
The default authentication mechanism for SYSDBA is by OS Group, which in this case is provided by the NTS mechanism [ i.e  standard WIndows Call  ]
If you created a bog-standard Win2K user with no group memberships then you would not be able to do this.
It is worth reading up on why this is the case. Have a look at the Windows Platform Guides.

  • IMac password log in reset

My son forgot his Imac desktop log in password - not the Apple ID password - how do we recover or reset the IMac log in password?

If OS X 10.7, do this using the Lion Recovery method, or this.
If OS X 10.6 or below, and you have the install disc for your computer, find your OS in this article and follow the instructions.
If you have 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6 and DON'T have an install disc, do this. But try to get an install disc first, and only use this last option if you know what you're doing!

  • HT201303 How do you remove an older Apple ID Password Log in

I keep having an older sign in using a older email account that is no longer in use. How do I remove and stop this from happening.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Firstly, you need to change your details with Apple,  Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • Does Webroot Secure Anywhere Password Log Ins work on Mountain Lion?

I cannot get the Password login features to work. First the program said to download an extension for Safari. It didn't work. Then it said to download Safari bookmarklets, which required a plug in. That didn't work. Finally they sent another plug in, which froze my computer altogether (.dmg). I don't know how to get it to work or if I should just uninstall everything and return it to the store. Does anyone have a similar experience?

WebRoot is to be avoided in the first place, as it's absolutely horrible at its primary objective (ie, detecting Mac malware). Or, at least, I can document that it was in January, when it only detected 21% of all the Mac malware I threw at it:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/mac-anti-virus-testing-01-2013/
So I wouldn't bother trying to get a specific feature working, especially when trying is causing your computer to crash. Just uninstall it and replace it with something else. If that feature is a password manager, try something like 1Password.
As for a replacement for the anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • Passwords / log in

hi...new to mac...i was able to subscribe to this forum using my max. id and the standard password that i use universally...it seems unlikely that i would have mistyped my password when i first set the computer up...particularily as i have 2 with the same problem
when i try to instal new software the screen comes up user name and password...the user name is there but entering the password produces an error message.....
the instructions say to insert the installation cd...switch off and restart keeping the c key depressed until the cog disappears..."then a utility screen will reappear enabling me to reset the password"...
i have tried this but there is no utility screen???...just a reinstall option...i have done the reinstall but that didnt help either....what next please?..and thanks in anticipation

    Hi
If you boot from the installer disk and select English from the initial language selection window you'll move onto the next window. From there look at the top of your screen and you should see a white menu bar. One of the options on the menu bar is Utilities. Select this and you should see the Reset Password Utility as an option. Select this and then select your hard drive from the resulting window. From there select your account and enter the desired password. Quit from the Utility (command+q) and quit again from the next window (command+q). You should now be prompted to select the Startup disk. Click on the drive icon and click restart.

  • After recovery, admin password filled in with "dots" and cannot delete or change it

    Hello.
I ran the Windows 7 updates yesterday, but only the necessary ones.  I did not install any of the optional ones.  After the updates completed, I turned the computer on and it was stuck in a loop cycle - starting windows, then the admin password log in box came up.  The box was fiiled in (with "dots" but too many to represent my password) and the screen just quickly flashed back & forth between the log in screen and "password incorrect".     I tried to switch user, and it flashed back to the admin log in.
I did a system recovery to factory defaults (after backing up all data)  using the recovery discs.  After recovery, the "Set a password for account" screen comes up with the box below "Type a password" filled in completely with dots.  I cannot erase them with the backspace or delete keys.  If I highlight it and then try erase it with backspace or delete, the cursor just moves to the right hand side of the password box, but it still doesn't delete the faulty password "dots" so that I can change it.
I tried to reboot by holding in the power button and then turning it back on.  After selecting country & language again, the same password screen come up.
It is stuck!  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  I computer I have  is the HP TouchSmart 310 PC 1155-Y.
    Thank You!
    This question was solved.

That is curious with a Recovery.  First, try to reset the password using NTPassword.  Make the CD, boot to it  following the directions.  If that does not solve the signon problem, consider installing the OS from a regular Windows 7 disk of the same version, using the key from the COA sticker.

  • Root password fails on auth to Solaris Management Console Server

I've setup Solaris 10 x86 on a VA linux 1220 server, all is good so far except when I try to create additional users. I am logged in as root, and the root password logs in to the CDE, but fails on authentication to Solaris Management Console Server when I try to use any of the management apps like computers and networks or Users. So I'm stalled at the point where I should be configuring the system. I have been very careful about typing in the password exactly as I use it in the login screen, but it never works in the System Management tools for This Computer. The password I'm using is 26 characters long, is it too long? Or is there a step I'm missing?
    Thanks,
    Brian

One of my famous guesses, but unless you changed the default password algorithm the maximum length of your password is 8 characters, when logging in on the console or desktop, anything typed after those eight characters will be ignored (unless this behaviour changed very recently).
Its possibly that SMC, and its server component WBEM does not ignore the extra characters, which could cause this behavior.
What happens if you try and login to SMC with the root user and only the first eight characters of your password?
Btw, if this was the problem i think there is a way to change the default crypto algorithm to something that supports more characters.

  • ISE 1.2 not logging failed authentications on guest portal (CWA)

    Hi there
I think this is a bug but wanted to check, if someone knows a good reason why failed authentication attemps with non-existing user account are not logged on ISE 1.2 (CWA).
    The different cases:
Case 1: existing user / wrong password -> logged
Case 2: no user / any password -> logged
Case 3: no user / no password -> logged
Case 4: non-existing user / any password -> not logged
In my opinion this is a critical case to be logged because this could be an indicator of a DoS attack or a password penetration test.
Thanks in advance and best regards
    Dominic
