Password no longer works for Administrator

I know that a lot of people lose or forget their password.  I may have had that happen, but I have it written down and a video of me typing it in and I said it out loud on the video as I typed it.  All that said I bought a dell R320 server that
I am using to run an industrial application under Windows Server 2012.  What that means is I am not an IT guy but a guy who uses computers to display information from a factory.  The server came with Windows Server 2012.  I installed the Rockwell
Automation Factory View SE software on the computer exactly as the 600 page installation and setup book describes.  I ran the application in Demo mode (7 days) while getting the View SE Client in Multi-Monitor mode setup.  I then installed a 30 license
to run the sample application and do the tutorial.  At that time I was running from administrator as the user.  I then setup an additional user "CR Operator 1" with the password "user".  I had to go into the "Policy"
in order to allow simple passwords.  I then let the system sit for 3 months without powering on while the customer got the project approved.  I purchased permanent License for the software and powered on the computers.  I installed the licenses
on the server as described in the instructions.  Everything was working great.  The client showed it was checking out licenses from the server the sample application was running and I connected to a local PLC and made a simple program to verify
connectivity and making it work in 4 instances on the multi-monitor client.  I was excited.  I shutdown and left town for 8 days.  I came back and powered up the system.  My administrator account shows invalid password.  I can log
on as "CR Operator 1" (standard user) but not as administrator.
Like I said earlier I didn't forget the password.  It may have changed or I accidently changed it (I wouldn't know how).  I have read several things on the internet about resetting the password.  The easiest was with the setup DVD which I
tried but evidently the drivers for the disk aren't on the DVD therefor the files on the C: or D: drives aren't accessible.
Two questions.  1. Can somebody from Microsoft Access my computer and reset the password? 2. Any idea if any of the things I described above that could have caused this problem in the event I need to go back and install the entire system?  I video
taped the original installation so I can duplicate but there was a lot of time invested.  But it concerns me that I can't make the password work.

1.) No they can't.
2.) Can't say for sure what happened but the simplest method may be to backup the ViewSE project, FT directory config, reinstall operating system. Reinstall FTView SE, patch it to same level, restore the network directory config and SE project. Rockwell
will reset the activations if you can't get them off. You'll be done in about three hours or less.

    Did an Archive and Install upgrade to Leopard without a problem. All Apps seem to work OK. In Preferences/Accounts I am still listed as administrator, but when I try to shut down or do other administrator chores I get an invalid user or password error message. Read a long thread about signing on as root user and changing password and did so successfully. When I re-boot, I still get the same error message. I have also repaired permissions and verified the HD. Upgrade was from 10.4.7 on an Intel MacBook. Any thoughts? Thanks much.

    Found the answer to my question in a thread from yesterday. It concerns password problems in Leopard when other users are logged on. I forgot that user fast switching doesn't log the other user off. Apple knows about the problem, and for anyone else who has this situation, see Apple article 307123. They will probably have a patch to download in the future.

  • Ipad show a keyboard for password, old password no longer works

    I use my old iPad 1 (MC49LL) only as a great GPS in my motorhome. I use a new iPad Air for everything else. But somehow, the old unit no longer shows the regular touchpad for my password; it shows a keyboard. And my old password no longer works--the same I have used for years on all my Apple devices. I tried resetting the unit with iTunes, but the it is still calling for a password with a keyboard, and is requiring a longer and longer time between tries. Has anyone experienced this? Any idea how to get past this?

    Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended. Firefox 3.6.18 would be the safer choice.
    Here's the process to roll back:
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
    You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
    Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
    Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

    Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
    My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
    They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
    However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
    I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
    So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
    At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
    All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

        Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         When the menubar appears select Terminal from the Utilities menu.
         Enter resetpassword at the prompt and press RETURN. Follow
         instructions in the dialog window that will appear.

  • Password no longer works after installing 4.0.3 !

    Brand new Mac mini running 10.10.2. I downloaded the new OS X Server v 4.0.3 app and all installed fine..
    I even created a share and transferred some test data okay...
    But my main login password on longer worked when I went to go access something in System Preferences!  I also couldn't use it to access the server via Screen Sharing as I had before I installed it ...and after a restart, I couldn't use it to log into the Mac!!  Meanwhile Safari kept crashing ...!  Infuriating !!  But yet it worked when I went to go log into the Server application.  ??? This used to be a piece of cake to install.  What happened to Server.app ???
    So I've decided to wipe the system and not use this awful 4.0.3.  I'll just use regular old File Sharing for now.  So annoying, but I can't have it act like this, I've wasted too much time.  It's like I'm running a beta.
    Is 4.0.3 just bug-ridden or what ?  What happened to my system's password ???

    At upgrades or major updates I have seen the behaviour that remote access via Server.app and remote access with Screen Sharing/Apple remote Desktop are reset to "not allowed". That only explains remote access not local access though.

    I have a macbook pro, and it has failed to start up for a few months until now.  When I get to the log in screen, my old password no longer works.  When I then try to reset it using my apple ID and password, an error message appears saying it cannot connect and to check my internet connection, but it gives me no option check or change the connection when this window is up.  Additionally, I have tried going into recovery mode and restoring from a backup I have on an external drive which did not work, and reinstalling Yosemite all over again, but I get a message that the disk is encrypted and asks for the password (again, a problem). 
    If anyone has any advice on something new I could try I would greatly appreciate it!

    I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your MacBook Pro. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on a couple things about your specific configuration. The message you mentioned about the disk being encrypted would seem to indicate that you may have File Vault enabled. If that is the case and you are having a login issue, you would need to use the File Vault recovery key to reset your login password instead of your Apple ID, as noted in the following article:

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
    If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
    If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
    Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
    Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
    Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
    Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
    Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
    Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
    Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

I have searched the internet to see if there is a solution, and I found a few but unfortunately none have worked. I desperately need these apps as my iPad is used for school. Is this an issue I should take up with the apple support centre or something? Please help! Thanks

    I was wrong --- turns out I did create a password long ago for my first backup, different than my iTunes password, and fortunately I was able to remember it.  The restore worked fine once I gave it the password that it wanted.

    Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!
