Password Protect iPod?

Is there by any chance a way to password protect certain files on my iPod or the entire iPod together? I would like to store some sensitive documents (i.e. passwords, usernames, etc.) on my iPod and I do not want just anyone to be able to access them. I need the iPod to ask for a password everytime I turn it on or wake it up from sleep. Can anyone help me?

Hello Adan,
To add to Niel's response above. There is a way to set your iPod up so that every time you turn it on or wake it from sleep to have it ask you for a passcode. To do this, head to the iPod's Extras menu, and choose "Screen Lock". From there, choose "Change combination" and set whatever passcode you wish. Just keep in mind that you will have to turn the screen lock on anytime you are about to quit using your iPod in order to activate it. You can turn it on by heading to the same place (Extras -> Screen Lock -> Turn Screenlock On).
Hope this helps.

it also sometimes says error 0xE8000001 the error is a connection error or it means that the ipod is focised on one thing or something if you have the same error it might help to read it. though it does not tell you how to fix it. 0xE itunes errors
also if you can find it on your actural computer you might be able to fix it from there by deleting every thing on that would take the password off and then you might be able to get on through itunes and restore it from there but tell me if you find a way to fix it! also mine wont go into recovery mode but yea

  • Lost password protected Ipod Touch

I lost my 16G ipod touch about 2 weeks ago. Is there any way that Apple can notify me if my missing Ipod is connected to I-tunes. The Ipod is also engraved.

If you have the serial codes, there are internet services that can notify you when it's connected (as long as that computer is connected tot he internet) and then lock it down.
Also, the engraving will have no effect whatsoever if you recover it...

Having AppleTV remember the password is optional.
Logout of iTunes store, log back in and hopefully next time you come to purchase you'll be prompted for your password but decline the option to remember it.  You might also want to look out of parental controls on the unit.

  • TS1398 After updating to ios 6 my iphone 4 would no longer connect to my home wifi. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password. However my wifi at home is password protected. I have the right password. It works on my ipod touc

After updating my iphone 4 with the ios 6 update. My iphone would no longer connect to my home wifi that is password protected. I know that I have the right password entered in. At work we have a free wifi connection that does not require a password and I can connect no problem to it. My ipod touch has no problem connecting to my home wifi. It is a 3rd gen ipod and does not have the ios 6 update on it. Please help!

I'm having the same issues. Started when I upgraded iphone 4S and ipad1 to 5.1.1. Wife's iphone 4g on 4.4.2 has been ok. I've forgot the network on both devices and restored the iphone, none of which changed the issue. I've upgraded to ios 6 on the iphone 4s, problem still persists.
One thing that will help for a time: go to your router and change the wireless control channel. When I first did this I got full connectivity for about 48 hours... and now the problem is back. I'm now changing the wireless control channel every 12 hours, which is a pain but at least keeps me connected. I've tried a few other solutions that are out there and that has been the best one so far.
to do this on a motorola router: type 192.168.0.1 in your address bar.
username: admin and password:motorola if you have not changed the factory defaults.
Click on the word "wireless" and look for the "control channel" field. This may be set to auto or to 1, try changing it to 6 or 11 (preferred) or any other channel.
The control channel can cause static in the wireless system IF there are several networks nearby that are on the default setup.
There is a fair bit of buzz about this issue out there, some other things I've seen:
This is a hardware issue. Go to the store and have your wifi antenna checked, some users reporting that they get free replacement devices.
Check against other wifi networks that require a password (this is next for me). Logon to those networks and surf until your wifi stops. If your wifi connects to the internet but stops responding, then this is a software (or hardware) issue and apple needs to step up. Some are claiming this to be the case.
IF you connect and stay connected/on the internet on another password protected wifi, then the issue is with your router. this is where things get cute.
Comcast may tell you to update your firmware. Motorola may tell you that your cable provider is the only one who can push through firmware updates. Comcast may tell you that you are not in an area that is being updated. It's unclear if they say that to all customers, or just those who have purchased cable modems and aren't renting them from comcast.
Good luck, more to come if I figure out anything else, and please post any solutions you may find.

Ok, exactly how do i set a screen lock that locks other users out of the iPod altogether?
Clicking on the link I posted earlier tells you how.

  • IPod Touch Frozen and password protected

I charged it just last night on a wall outlet extension, unplugged it and it is stuck on the iTunes connection with the USB cord picture. I tried restarting it, that doesn't do a thing, and I can not restore it or connect it to iTunes because of the password protection.

Okay...have you tried a reset of the iPod?
You may need to reset. Note: Only reset your iPhone or iPod touch if it is no longer responding.
    To reset
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Password protect iMessges on iPod Touch

I want to password protect iMessges on my desktop and iPod. I looked into file vault (for the desktop), but it locks up the entire disk. I just want to lock up the application. I went through iMessages very carefully and found nothing on this. Very surprising.

On the iPod all you can do is sign out of Messages and then set the Restriction that prevent changing accounts.
On the Mac you can use Parental Controls. You have to set up an account for another person and then use that account for all others but yourself.

  • Password protect iOS 6.1.5 iPod when synced with PC/Mac.

    Hello,,,
I have a old ipod using iOS 6.1.5.
Whenever I connect to a Mac/PC, it does not ask for password to have the PC/Mac access the photos on the iPod.
On other Mobile devices (Android/Windows), if the mobile is password protected, I have to either enter the password in the PC/Sync application or have the mobile unlocked. (This is to have the PC access the password protected mobile's photos...etc.).
On this iPod(Maybe all iOS devices), itunes/iphoto directly accesses the photos on the ipod, even if the device is locked/password protected.
Now, how can I secure the ipod with a password, this is to prevent the ipod's photos being accesses in the event of loosing it or so?
    Is there anyway?
    Thank you,

    Hello...
    I thought so...
    Thanks for confirming.

my daughter put a password on her ipod touch and now can't remember it...I have tried to restore with i-tunes but it won't work and a window comes up saying that the device is password protected!  Can anyone help me fix this? thanks!!

From this Apple support document: iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the headingBlocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Error 3194: Resolve error 3194 by updating to the latest version of iTunes. "This device is not eligible for the requested build" in the updater logs confirms this is the root of the issue. For more Error 3194 steps see: This device is not eligible for the requested build above.

  • IPhone/iPod Touch App for opening password-protected Word .doc?

Can anyone recommend an app that will let me open a password-protected .doc on my iPod Touch. It's hard to tell from the app info on search if a particular app might handle this need. THanks!

No, unless there is a third party viewed which can handle the passwords. The in-built viewer is a simple viewer and doesn't support password protected documents at all.
Have a search through the Appshopper website to see if there is something better.

  • Password Protect Email on iPod touch?

    Hi there,
Is there any way to password-protect your email account on an iPod touch? I know how to enable a password login for the entire device, but is there any way to have a password required to open just the email application?
Many thanks in advance for any help!

    Welcome to the Forums!
    No, there's not. Sorry
There's always the possibility that a 3d party developer will write something (i.e. an alternate email client). Also, the possibility that Apple will update that as part of the enterprise changes. But, to be honest, I don't see either as being very likely, since the ability to lock the whole thing is present already.
If your account allows webmail access, you could skip using Mail (delete the account), and just use Safari to access it, so you'd always have to enter the password.
    Hope this helps...
