Password protect Mail on iPad

Just got a brand new iPad.  Is there a way natively or via another app to password protect the Mail application?  I'd love to be able to let others use the iPad for internet browsing or games, but with Mail if you click it you can get right into all my email accounts with all my data.  Would love to be able to have extra security on top of the Mail program to even get it to open up.
Many thanks in advance for the help.

Exactly, parental control, but its just not as developed of a feature as I would have hoped for.   Seems like there's lot of questions on the boards dating back for years on this where most people just gave up.  But that's one heck of a business model, Apple wanting me to buy a $800 device so a little kid can play an educational game for maybe an hour or two a week
Sounds like Kyle might have an idea of something.

  • Password protecting mail

Hi, just wondering if there is a way to password protect mail?  Our iPad is shared in our home with my children who keep deleting messages and sending stuff so was wondering how to protect mail so they can't get in.  Thanks!

The Mail app can't currently be protected via Settings > General > Restictions, but there is this work-around. Alternatively you could see if there are any third-party email apps have a password option, or you could access your account via Safari (you could create a homescreen shortcut for your account's login page)

  • Can email be password protected on the Ipad 2?

Can email be password protected on an Ipad 2?

Not independently of the whole iPad - which can have a passcode added to protect everything.
Alternatively, access your email through webmail in Safari then you can log-out when finished.

  • Password protecting mail app and permanent deletion of emails so they don't appear in spotlight search

I realise that there is a temporary way to prevent this happening by unticking the 'mail' option in the spotlight search settings menu, but how do you permanently delete the emails? I assumed that when I hit delete then emptied the trash box, the mails were gone for good. But finding that they remain stored in some hidden place and can be easily accessed is very annoying! In fact, finding that other users can quickly change the settings back and have free access to my email is rather disturbing anyway, especially as there is no way to password protect my email account once i activate the mail app. the apple mail app is linked to my yahoo account, but within yahoo mail there seems to be no problem in regards to deleted mail being stored somewhere else, only within the apple app system.
So i guess id like to know, is there some way to password protect my account or do I just need to keep deleting my account before lending the ipad to someone else and then reinstating it? And is there any way to properly delete emails for good?
I would be happy just to go without the mail app and log in directly through yahoo in Safari, except that I find the notification alert when I receive a new mail very handy!!

[edit] I dragged the email I sent through the MBP Mail app (under MAILBOXES > Sent > Yahoo!) to the highlighted Sent folder (YAHOO! > Sent), and now it shows up on all Yahoo Sent folders (iPad app, web browser, phone app). Not entirely solved the issue but will use web browser to sent future emails to keep everything in sync.

  • Password protecting mail application.

    Hello,
I would like to know if i can password protect my mail application, just the way outlook express can be done.I would not like to create a different user
    acccount for doing the same.
    Thanks in advance

You could make Mail ask for a password before fetching new mail or sending mail by altering your keychain preferences. Either prevent Mail from storing your email password in the keychain or let it do that but make sure that your keychain has a different password than your user account, is not set to automatically unlock on login and locks after a very short idle time.
If you have an imap account and leave your messages on the server, this effectively prevents access to your mail without a password. If you use pop and/or download messages to you local folders, though, anything already downloaded will be accessible without a password.

  • Forgot password protect on Pages (iPad)

    Hello,
I have a document in Pages2.0 password protected on iPad. However I have forgotten the password and can not open the document. Is there anyway to override the password or reset it?
Tried opeing the same document on MacBook but as I haven't updated to Mavericks, I cannot open it anyway as my version of pages is outdated...
Any advice for accessing this file?

Another method is to save it as a password locked PDF.
    From your open Document, Print,
    click on the PDF dropdown
    Save as PDF
Click Security Options and set a password.
    Save.
Whether this suits your needs I don't know. I thought I'd throw it in there.

  • Password protecting Mail.app

    Hi all,
I convinced my dad to use Mail for his mail client, but he wants to be able to password protect it so no one can just open Mail and read all his e-mail.
I'm not sure this is doable but I wanted to ask, thanks.

I'm sorry but I'm not following...
I'm trying this on my system so when I connect to his Mac I'll know what to do.
But for example I have three email accounts setup in Mail.app, I believe in Keychain Access there is an entry for both the incoming and outgoing server, totally 6. So I have to do what you said to each of those entries?
And if so how is that going to prompt Mail.app to ask for a password whenever it's opened?
Sorry I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around this.

  • Password Protect Revel in iPad

How do i password protect a Revel Album(s) or the entire Revel app in iPad. I could not find such feature in the settings. Being a photo album, this feature is very important.

Because Revel requires an adobeid and password to get in, you can logout of Revel each time you use it on your ipad if you wish. Most users just have a password on their iPad and leave the app logged in for ease of access.

  • Anyway to password protect Mail?

I would like to Mail to ask me for a password before opening....that way other users of my system won't be able to read my email....is this possible?

You just may have to log into and out of your computer each time you use Mail, if you are not on a network. But the newer Macs have the capapability of being able to have several users that log into and out of their own Desktops.
Although, this may help from Mail Help:
    "About Keychain passwords in Mail
When you set up a user account in Mac OS X using the Accounts preferences pane, a keychain is automatically created with the same password. Your keychain can store all the passwords you use to access different resources, including your passwords for the Mail application and for each email account. When you connect to a network server, open an email account, or access any password-protected item that is keychain-aware, your keychain provides the password so you don't have to type it.
Your keychain is unlocked automatically when you log in to Mac OS X. Use the application Keychain Access to manage keychain passwords.

  • Does anyone know how to password protect Mail  from the applications folder

I know you can password protect with a screensaver, is that the only way?

That is simply because you have checked an option to remember the password. Open Mail preferences, click on the Accounts icon in the toolbar. In the dialog under your username you should see your password (not displayed.) Remove the password entry. From now on Mail will prompt for a password before attempting to fetch mail. This does not mask the Inbox in any way but it does prevent anyone from getting new mail without a password. There is no direct way to actually password protect the entire Inbox.
I'm still not clear as to why you need to do this or what specifically you want to accomplish. I don't know if simply logging out of your account when you aren't by the computer would not satisfy your security need or requiring a password to wake up the computer via the screensaver. Maybe you could explain things more to us.

  • Password protection for the iPad Mail App

Is there any way to set the mail app so that the user must enter a mail password to access the account?

    No, sorry, none. It's not a horrible idea, though . . . .

  • I can't play password protected vzaar videos on my iPad 2. Any solutions??

It seems like password protected videos on a variety of online video sharing business platforms no longer work on the iPad 2.
Unprotecting videos is not an option.
I believe this was first introduced with iOS 5.
Does anyone have any solutions to this???

    Hi there,
I'm afraid the lack of password protection on the iPad with vzaar videos is a limitation of our HTML5 player, so rather than allowing the protected videos to be played on these devices we simply block them while we work on our implementation.
Our HTML5 player is still relatively new and we're constantly adding features, but obviously password protection is a sensitive issue and we want to make sure we get it right.
For now, I'd suggest using passwords at a page level to protect the videos, using .htpasswd for instance.
In future, if you contact us directly at vzaar.com/help we'll be able to get back to you much quicker.
    All the best,
    Dan

We have 2 email accounts on our Ipad and want ro password protect them from each other.I cannot see how tomdo this.

The only way to get around this would be if you could access each of those e-mail accounts via web mail. You can put a shortcut on the screen and then enter the login info for each one. Everything would be viewed on a web basis and nothing should be downloaded to the ipad itself. (beyond being in safari's history)
