Password protect without imac

hi guys. i dont know squat, but i have a site i made with iweb 1.1.2. can i password protect my site without having imac? thanks in advance.

Hi mjs273,
This should be no problem. I'm assuming you use iWeb to publish to a folder on your computer and then you upload the files to your web hosting company.
Most web hosts have an browser-based admin facility. Through that you should be able to setup password protection for your site or for just certain sections of the site.
For example, on the sites that I have hosted by DreamHost, I just click on Goodies / Htaccess / WebDAV. I select one of the domains. Then click Set Up a New Directory. From there I can choose to password protect that directory. Whatever options I were to select would also apply to any sub-directory.
Your exact steps will be a bit different (unless you are using DreamHost, of course)!

  • Password protected without a password

    I was attempting to password protect my adobe .pdf but it never gave me the screen to enter the password I wanted to use. Now the document is password protected without a password and I cannot open it.  Please help.

    I think i might have the same issue as MymicFSO.
    The issue is when you try to go to secure>manage security policies by default there would be 2 entries
    Encrypt with certificate
    Encrypt with Password option
    For the second if i check on the policy details both user password and owner password are set to "Not Required"
    So if I try to secure a document and choose the "Encrypt a password" option, since there is no default password setup then it will prompt me to enter what ever password I choose.
    Now on another computer someone changed the setting and chose to put in a password for the "User password" under the "Encrypt a password" policy. So now whenever I secure a document using that machine using "Encrypt a Password" it uses the one already stored and does not prompt me to enter a new password.
    Now it can still be changed by by to the password security settings manually but I wonder if it is possible to get back that option for it to just prompt me whenever i try to secure a document.

  • Password protecting my iMac

    I have recently changed over from Windows and been pretty happy with my new iMac.Sofar all is well,but now I realized that I like to have my machine protected from anybody else using it when I am not around away from home.In Windows I could password it so that it would not even boot up.I don't yet know how to that in Mac OSX Snow Leopard.
    When I initially set the system up I did make a password,but how doI use it to protect the iMack?

    In addition to what Dave mentioned, which is good advice, you can also set your computer to require a password every time it wakes from sleep or from the screen saver... see System Preferences -> Security in the General tab. You can also set up a firmware password, which operates at a lower level than any of the others... see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1352
    Note, however, that any of these things can be bypassed, for anyone who knows how. The only thing that can truly protect your data from a determined thief is encryption. You can create encrypted disk image files, using Disk Utility, in which to store sensitive data. You could also encrypt your entire user folder using FileVault (in System Preferences -> Security), but that's major overkill for most people, IMHO.

  • Can iMessages be password protected

    Can iMessage be password protected without locking the device?

    It would be helpful if we could lock apps, like texting  photos and mail, if we share our devices.
    IMO they should consider it because.it makes you not want to share, and Apple loses an opportunity to sell their products to new customers. I've ' sold' 6 iPads to people  who used mine and had to get one for themselves.
    It's called good marketing skills.

  • Removing Password Protection From External Disk Attached to Time Capsule

    I have an TV and when I try to watch a show it always says that "file format is not recognized." I am pretty sure it is because my computer gets disconnected from the external disk that all the media is on. This disk is attached to my time capsule. I wish I could make it so it would automatically reconnect with the disk after being disconnected, but I can't figure out how to make the external disk non password protected without making my network password protected also. Does that make sense? How do I make a disk so it is not password protected if it is on my password protected network? If my computer is on the network then I should be able to access discs without having to put in an additional password, no?

  • Password protect saving changes in code

    Hello,
    Is there a way to password protect sa ving changes in the block diagram?  I don't want to password protect viewing the code, only making changes.
    much thanks!

    Hello Monse,
    If you want true password protection without changing what the user has access to within the development environment, your best bet is probably to set the folder containing your VIs to read-only with restricted user permissions.  This won't stop editing, but it will prevent saving the modified VIs.
    Another option is to "lock" the VI, which will assist in preventing casual editing but doesn't allow a password.  More information on locking VIs can be found here:

  • Password protect between 10pm and 5am only

    I want to password protect my iMac between 10pm and 5am only. At any other times no password would be required.

    Log out at 10 pm and log back in at 5 am. Note that, although there are ways to script this automatically, it wouldn't be wise, as unsaved documents would ultimately cancel log out if you're not there to take care of it.
    Alternately, you could see my response on the following topic, which requires fast user switching to be turned on (in System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Options). Of course, then if you lose power or something in the middle of the night, unsaved documents are simply lost.

    Having AppleTV remember the password is optional.
    Logout of iTunes store, log back in and hopefully next time you come to purchase you'll be prompted for your password but decline the option to remember it.  You might also want to look out of parental controls on the unit.

    Hey guys I got a used iBook from a family friend that has it password protected.I can't update or delete programs or download anything without the passwords and he doesn't remember them.Is there any way for me to get around these without wiping the computer and starting from scratch?

    Hello,
    Sadly without the system disk you can't do a lot. I would suggest you enable root user, log in as root and reset your administrators password, however you can't without knowing the administrator password first.
    The only solution would be is to obtain the correct system disk or buy a retail copy of Mac OS X. But note, it depends on what version of the iBook you own depends, on what version of Mac OS X you will require.
    You can still obtain the system disk or retail disks from online vendors, but they come at a cost.
    System disk are grey in color, while retail disk have a big 'X' on it.
    Best of luck

  • Reader plug-in, save copy of password protected pdf without password

    Hello,
    We currently have an Acrobat Reader plugin (using the 8.1 SDK) and are having trouble with password protected PDFs.
    The sole purpose of our plug-in is to pass a copy of the currently open PDF to a different folder on the user's computer. The problem we are facing is with the password protected PDFs. We would like to pass a copy of the PDF that doesn't have the readonly password protection.
    Scenario:
    1. The user opens a password protected PDF in Adobe Reader.
    2. They are prompted for the password, they enter it and can see the PDF. 3. Now they click our custom button.
    4. Save a copy of the currently open PDF without password protection
    Since we already know they have entered the correct password, in theory we should be able to either save all of the content to a new file, or simply remove the password protection.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I will be able to get a PDF without the password?
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    Hi again,
    I was doing some research in the API reference and examples and I think that for my business problem, it will be sufficient if I can get the read access password. I found that I am able to use the following:
    AVCryptGetPassword(pdDoc, permsWanted, (void **)&password)
    This prompts the user to enter the password and puts the actual password in the &password variable, which will will work for us. Ideally though, I would like to not have to prompt the user again for the password since they already entered when opening the pdf, is it possible to get access to the plain text of the password that they typed when opening the pdf or another way?
    I tried:
    StdSecurityDataRec* secData;
    secData = (StdSecurityDataRec*)PDDocGetNewSecurityData (pdDoc);
    if (secData) {
    if (secData->hasUserPW)
    char* mypw = secData->userPW;
    However, the password is encrypted. Thanks for your help!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • How do I save a password protected file without a password?

    Someone sent me a password protected file and I want to save it on my computer without the password.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
    It is not possible to save a password protected file without a password with Adobe Reader, you would require Adobe Acrobat to remove the password protection. Even with Adobe Acrobat you can only remove the security if you are aware about the password otherwise you need to contact the Author/creator of the PDF to remove the security.

  • I have a password protected Numbers document I created on my MAC and share via DROPBOX. Is there any way to simply view this doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?

    I use NUMBERS on my MAC to create a password protected document.  I share this doc via DROPBOX.  Is there any way I can view the doc on my IPAD without purchasing NUMBERS for the IPAD?  The doc opened fine on the IPAD before protecting it with a password.

    Using the term "opened" may have been incorrect on my part.  Before password protection, I simply viewed the doc by selecting it within my DROPBOX app.  No revisions could be made, but I could view the doc.    Now, with the doc password protected, the IPAD states this file can not be viewed.
    The IPAD users guide gives a list of files IPAD can view. Unfortunately, I find no info on how to open/view that file should it be protected. If

  • Locked / Password Protected iMac G5

    Hello,
    I am currently a Windows user and recently upgraded to Vista. I was very unhappy with Vista, and I am currently looking for a used Mac on eBay.
    I found a cheap iMac g5, but it stated that it had 'No OS' and it was 'Password Protected'. By installing OSX Leopard, would I overcome the problem?
    The site for the iMac is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/APPLE-IMAC-G5-PROCESSOR-19-1-8GHZ-160GB-512MB-DVD-RWW0QQitemZ200268187414QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200268187414&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66% 3A2%7C65%3A1%7C240%3A1318&trksid=p3286.c0.m14
    Thank you.

    Personally, I would not make an eBay trade with a Mac seller who lists a Mac as "faulty" because it's password-protected. This sounds like the open firmware password, which is not a fault - it's a deliberate security feature set by a user to prevent other users from rebooting the computer from another copy of the OS, or the reset disks. This means that you won't be able to install Leopard. However, any good Mac technician can tell you how to remove the password feature.
