Password protecting a gallery?

Hello all,
This is my first post in the Apple support discussions!
I was wondering if there is a way to password a specific gallery in iWeb '08, and not the whole site?
I'm a photographer and would like to be able to have client specific galleries that are password protected, so only myself and the client can access their galleries.
I publish to Mobileme.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Since only an entire site can be password protected your option is to create a new site for each client with just the photo gallery page(s) in it. You can then add a hyperlink to that gallery on your public site.
If you would want to have each private gallery/site in the navbar of the public site create a blank page for each client and named for that client. Then add the code in this demo page to an HTML snippet:
Redirect. When a client clicks on the navbar link he will immediately be taken to the protected site.
You can put a similar blank page on the protected sites pointing back to the public site.

  • Iweb and using mobileme password protected photo gallery

I am trying to create a website. How can I access a password protected photo gallery by using MobileMe gallery widget in iweb. I need this capability. The unprotected galleries display using the MobileMe widget. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the discussions. Try this...
    • Temporarily unprotect the Gallery
    • The Gallery should now appear in the list of available Galleries — add it

  • How do you password protect web gallery

Iphoto is easy to protect. How do you password protect your movies in webgallery? The help menu is not very clear

The best I can figure out is that if you post your movie to the Gallery, but do not select the option to "Show project on Web Gallery home page," the video will not show on your home page for random visitors. When the movie is done posting, you can send the direct link of your video to whomever you want by copying it from the confirmation page after the video uploads. Not perfect, but the only option I see right now.

  • Password protect a gallery

Is it possible to password protect a photo album or gallery on my iweb 08 site?
    Thanks,
    Mark

iweb will see published iphoto gallery if it's not passworded in it's menu.
I would possibly use a sample photo and a text block hyper linked to the web gallery address.
Another approach might be to create a "sub" site(s) passworded and link to them.
    good luck

  • Password Protect Entire Gallery Page

I know you can protect individual albums but is there a way to password protect the whole gallery page ?
    thanks

No. You can't password protect the entire MobileMe gallery as a unit but can protect each gallery individually with the same user name and password. '
If you want to make it convenient for visitors to have access to each gallery you could create an iWeb site with a page of hyperlinks to each of the protected MMe Galleries. Each hyperlink can be set to open in a new window so all it would take to get back to the page of hyperlinks would be to close the gallery window.

  • How to password protect mobileme gallery after its been published?

Is there a way to quickly add password protection to a already published set of pics instead re-uploading and choosing to protect it before the initial upload?

Yes. Just as you can update a MobileMe gallery with additional photos after initial publishing, you can update the settings including password protection.
Within Aperture, with the gallery "album" up, select the MobileMe popup menu from the tools at the bottom right of the screen. Within that, select "Settings..." Then edit the "Album viewable by:" section accordingly and re-"Publish." No need to re-upload your photos.
Some gallery/album settings can be modified via browsing into the MobileMe gallery, but to the best of my knowledge password protection cannot be modified there...

  • Password protected web gallery

Would like to share some picture with my client over the internet. I have created a WebGallery and would like to publish the site content to my Mobileme account through the "Pucblish to Mobileme" button at the upper right conner that appears where Web Pages are created in Aperture. There is no facility to make private the site when publishing through this route.
Would appreciate any confirmation on feasibility or directions about how to get it done

From your message you may have already done step (4), but you missed doing step (5).
    1) Go back to the "Web Gallery" in your iPhoto.
    2) Select the gallery under the "Web Gallery" heading on the left column.
    3) Select the "Settings" button on the lower left.
    4) Select the "Album Viewable by:" and pick "Edit Names and Passwords…". At this point, you should create name and password pair that you will give everyone that will be accessing this gallery.
    5) Select the name you just created in the "Album Viewable by:" menu.
    6) Click "Publish"
That should give you want you are looking for in your message.
(Sorry about the other direction that I went into with my other posts.)

  • Can't access password protected .Mac Web Gallery

Safari is my primary browser. I have been creating web galleries using iLife '08 and my .Mac account and then viewing them with Safari for the past month or so with no trouble. This weekend I tried creating a password protected web gallery and it won't load in Safari. The gear icon just spins forever and has timed out when I have left it alone long enough. My other web galleries continue to load just fine. Clicking on the link from within iPhoto for my password protected gallery doesn't work, typing the url into Safari doesn't work, going to my gallery index and clicking on the icon of the "locked" gallery doesn't work, etc. I can still view all of my other web galleries, but this one that I'm trying to protect just won't load.
This actually appears to be a Safari problem. I don't get a dialog asking for User Name and Password. The url works just fine using Firefox on my Mac, and it also works on a PC running Windows XP. When using something other than Safari, I get the prompt for User Name and Password that I would expect. Upon entering that information, everything looks normal and works just fine.
Tsk tsk Apple! Safari shouldn't be having trouble displaying protected .Mac web galleries. Sheesh!

Just wanted to let you know that I have the EXACT SAME problem, except it is affecting my password protected iWeb site and my Gallery. I can view it from Firefox, so that is the web browser I am using now. I sent a bug report to Apple, and I also send them a request for help using e-mail, but so far I have gotten no response. Hopefully someone is working on the fix?

  • TTG Tutorial: Password Protect LR Galleries

Because people have been requesting a password protected gallery for some time now, I dug around and found a good way to password protect any gallery or webpage you'd like. A brief tutorial:

    Thanks a lot, Matt.
This is so useful to people like me, who have no idea about creating and managing webgalleries / websites.

  • Password protected site and gallery: no go

    Hi,
i'm trying to publish a password protected site to mobileme. The site will contain links to mobileme galleries (password protected too).
first issue: i can't add a protected gallerie to iweb, iweb doesn't show it. After removing the protection ("visible to everone") it works. After setting up the site, i turned on the protection again.
Now my browser ask for the password for every gallery on the page (it's the same user and password for every gallery and the site).
I don't think, that my visitors will like that...

  • Need work around for image gallery with password protected URLs

Is there a way to display an image gallery that has password protected URLs?
I can build the image gallery in Siena using an excel table with a list of the images and when I preview the app inside Siena I get the expected credentials prompt from IE, and I enter the credentials and the images load and display with their captions perfectly.
There are 4-6 images in the gallery.
When I publish and produce a store app, the app errors out with can’t connect and obviously fails on
var GenericInitError = "The app could not connect to the server. Please try again later.",
            GenericInitTitle = "Network error";
Most likely because Siena wants to preload everything and there is no way with preload to enter credentials.
I am looking for any alternatives that would let me get around this.
    TIA

Nope. The app accesses a group of IP Security cameras. Static images would not
make any sense. And authentication is required. Not negotiable.

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • Password protect individual pages, web gallery?

    Hello;
When hosted by .mac Is it possible to password protect a single page (or photo gallery)?
Also, can we allow people to post on the Blog via password?
    TIA
    -T

    Hi T Powers,
unfortunately it is not possible to password protect only one page of a site.
Thus what you would have to do is make a new site (File=>New Site) only for the one page you want to password protect and link from the other site or give the url of that site to the people you want to see it.
Blogs can be modified only through the iWeb application. Visitors can only add comments to it to add a password you would have to make a site for it.
You may have a look at embedding a Wordpress Blog to your website
    http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWeb_Blogging.html
It allows you to add users who can contribute to it and post to it (not only comments but also entries).

  • Is it possible to password protect Movies in the new Web Gallery?

I have loaded several iPhoto albums onto my new Web Gallery - and I can password protect each using a different name and password for various friends and family. This is great as they each then have their own privacy. Some I have left open to view by everyone. BUT, I would like to password protect some movies from iMOvie '08. Can this be done for the movies as per the photo albums - and how? If yes - can it also be done for movies already published or will they have to be re-published?
    thanks

The best I can figure out is that if you post your movie, but do not select the option to "Show project on Web Gallery home page," the video will not show on your home page for random visitors, but you can send the direct link to your video to whomever you want by copying it from the confirmation page after the video uploads. • Share movie from Quicktime X to MobileMe Gallery with password protection?

Is it possible to share a movie using "Share" -> "MobileMe Gallery" with userid/password protection like from iPhoto or iMovie.
I can share it from Quicktime X to MobileMe but the movie is 'public' on my gallery.
    Thanks,
    Roland

Not with QuickTime X (at this time).
Use iPhoto to make a "private" Gallery page.
