Password-protecting a hyperlink to a file?

Is it possible to make a hyperlink to a file password-protected in iWeb 3.0.3? For example, I'd like to make a portfolio on my website downloadable only to select clients. Thanks.

Since iWeb can’t password-protect individual pages, consider posting your portfolio on posterous.com and text or image hyperlink to it. There's also a way to link to an external site (such as Posterous) directly from iWeb's navigation bar.
You can set a password on your Posterous site so only the readers you want can see it. They don't need to create an account to see your site, just enter the password you give them. Simple. More information about private sites can be found HERE.

    I found another link http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/cut10.shtml

  • Password protecting and encrypting received pdf file

    Hello there,
how can I password protect (and encrypt) a pdf file that I received from someone else? For example, I may get a copy of my tax return from my accountant that I don't want anyone else to see on my computer or when I back up contents of my computer online.
I have only Adobe Reader 8 installed on my computer. So I am not writing these pdf files myself - I realize that then I would have full control over the security settings.
Microsoft Word and Excel files I can password protect. How can I do this for "received pdf files"?
    Thank you for your help.

    You need Acrobat, not Reader.
Be aware that even then, PDF security is easy to bypass.
I use a Mac for the most part but isn't there any features in Windows that will allow you to protect folders?

  • How to Password Protect a Directory so all Files are Protected?

    Hello CFers and Happy Holidays,
I am moving a web site over from a Linux server over to a
Windows 2000 server. The site was currently password protected via
the oh so familiar .htaccess method on the Linux server. Now that
the site is on IIS on Windows, the .htaccess files don't work.
I have created a MSSQL database with a users table that
contains all of the username and passwords that are allowed to
    access the site.
Normally I would just log users in by querying the database,
setting a session variable, and then using application.cfm to check
to make sure the users is logged in. However, in this particualr
site, most of the files are made up of .htm files which do not get
processed by the ColdFusion application.cfm tag.
Several posts indicated that I would need to disable
anonymous access within IIS and then create the individual user
accounts within Administrative Tools > Computer Management >
Users and Groups. However, in this case, I don't want to create
thousands of new users within windows.
Is there a way for me to password protect all files within a
directory while still using the accounts set up in my MSSQL
    database for authentication?
    Thanks,
    David Levin

How many users did you have in your .htaccess config? That's
    how many
you'd need to set up in IIS. With IIS & file system
    permissions you're
effecting the same thing you would with Apache's .htaccess
    authorisation.
Except using GUI tools rather than text files; it's the same
    principle,
    though.
Or... you could just install Apache and use that instead,
    sticking with the
    approach you're used to.

  • Password protecting a single MS Word file in Leopard.

Hi, I have a quick question. Is there a way to password protect or encrypt a single MS Word file in Leopard? I want to encrypt a few sensitive Word doc's but not everything. Thanks- Chris

If you can't find a more direct way, there's always the option to create an encrypted disk image (using Disk Utility or equivalent) and store the sensitive files on there.

  • IOS8 fails to stream password protected website mp3 and mp4 files

EDucational content in a password protected website folder (mp3 and mp4 lecture presentations) fail to stream from a simple directory list website with iOS 8 yet continue to work fine on an iPhone 4 with iOS 7.   Apple says "expected behavior" with all browsers on iOS 8.  Before i direct new students to other platforms so they can access course material, any fixes?

    i drafted the solution here,

  • Adding password protection to a modified PDF file in iOS Reader 10.3

Is there a way to add a password to a PDF file that was modified from an unprotected PDF original, using the free iOS version of Reader, without having to buy a third-party app?
On that note, can you protect a subfolder within the Documents folder without leaving the app?

    No.

  • I can't open number files with password protection?

I am using OSX 10.9.4 with Numbers 3.2.2 (1878) and have one file which is password protected. While opening the file with Numbers, it prompts for the password after correct entry I receive the friendly message: "xxx" can't be opened.  That's it.
    Any solution out there?
    Thanks, Hansjoerg

Your observation seems to be right because it was not the first time I recognized this effect. However, it is bitter to see that professional SW like Numbers can't hangle this option (password protection) correctly. It might have to do with the fact that the data file from Numbers is actually not a single file but a container with lost of files an subdirectories. Why the **** they make it so complex?
Anyway, many thanks for your hint. I hope to find a tool which can correct those corrupted Number-files.

  • PDF Files are password protected.  I never set a password

There are a lot of pdf files in the document section.  Must be book or magazine pages as they are titled "page101.pdf" and so on with a date underthem.
I tried to open one to see what it was and I got a "password protected" and a box to enter my password.  I never set a password for this app.  I tried using my Adobe password and my google password to no avail.
How can I open them to see what they are?
    Thanks.
    Janet in NJ

The request for a password has absolutely nothing to do with a password for the application or any relationship to your Google password.
The message password protected refers to the PDF file that you are trying to open. Apparently, whoever created the PDF file either a PDF file creation or subsequently password protected the PDF files. You will need to contact whoever supplied those PDF files to you to obtain whatever the password is or passwords are.

  • Iwork 09 password protection for pages & numbers files

I created a numbers file (iWork 09) on iMac that is password protected.  I sent the file to my iPad 2 and the first time i opened the file via ipad 2, it prompted me for my password, but now every time thereafter when I open the file in my ipad 2, it bypasses the password protectection.  The operating system on my ipad 2 is v. 4.3.5

Yeah, its strange that it only works the very first time you open the file via ipad.  I'm thinking that maybe some utilities from the desktop app are not functional with the ipad app......

Not folder but file (I do hope you understand the difference). Have you tried to search SDN at all? I don't have much time, but before replying initially I did just a quick search and it brought several posts mentioning the archiving functionality. And I'm sure 'Smartform to PDF' will bring up gozillion posts. Also I find the Google search with addition 'site:sap.com' to be quite helpful.
However, I would still recommend to review the requirements. Why exactly do you need this password protection? If there is a fear that someone other than a recipient might get access to the email account then there is really a bigger security issue in the organization and it should be resolved by some other means. As I have mentioned, password does not really add much protection.
Out of curiosity I briefly looked at the IRM description on the Microsoft's web site and it doesn't seem to be very helpful. First of all, it's the MS software and has to be installed on the user's PC and configured (how do we know the emai recipients are even on Windows?). Also it does say "Prevent an unauthorized recipient from accessing e-mail content", but I didn't quite get how exactly. Is there a retinal scan that comes with it? And the list of things it does not do gives you the whole another perspective on the email security.

  • How to batch password protect files without having to click "Save" for each file

    Hi!
I need help. I'm trying to batch password protect a few hundred PDF files. I've setup an action for this, however when I run the action, Acrobat asks me to save each file. Isn't this kind of defeating the purpose of batch processing?

Add a save step at the end.
