Password protecting a swf: effective or not?

hi.
I've created a password variable w/input text on the first frame of a swf to enable private viewing of a swf; so if you dont know the password you cant procedd to frame 2, to see the whole thing.
Is this effective?

i'm not sure what decompiling is exactly though i have an idea it's like breaching copyright, though i mayb wrong, so i have downloaded some decompiler software off of cnet, 'Sothink SWF Decompiler',
but am afraid to install it
because fearful it'll mess with my system. Is that a legitimate concern, do you htink?
And, I noticed another piece of software mentioned on cnet, SWF Decompiler Magic, from http://www.flashdecompiler.us/
which isnt free, which may be useful to fix my own swfs and look at how those of others are built.
Do you think that's ok to do? I mean, is it a standard optimization/debugging technique - to use decompilers?
And, considering that one of my issues with my own swfs is that they are processor intensive due to the use of lots of FLVPlayback, timers that regenerated objects, and plenty much goings on, do you think that a decompiler tool can help me optimize these issues when i upload my work to my website?

Password protecting a swf that i want to upload to my website

Hi all. I would appreciate it seeing a tutorial showing how to password protect a swf uploaded to my website.
I have a swf that is a work in progress, is NOT ready for public viewing, and i need some critique from a friend in the USA, and if i could upload it and give her the password, it would be viewable only for her, or for whoever else i'd give the password.
So, i've looked at a thread from a while back, http://forums.adobe.com/message/718264#718264, which explains stuff that is beyond me, on xml programming.
And, i am aware that the Publish settings has an option to add a password, I tried it but am unsure what that does if anything.

If you zip your files into a folder, any email service should allow them to pass. If the swf does not rely on external data files or dynamically loaded files, then sending the swf alone would suffice since it can be played without the need for the html page.
As for the robotics end of things, if you add the following lines into the head section of the html page, the creepy things should avoid your pages...

<meta name="robots" content="noarchive">
I don't know if newer tags have been invented for these purposes over the last couple of years, but if so, a search of Google should reveal any.

How to password protect a site that is NOT published to .mac?

I was wondering if anyone has got a workaround for this in iWeb. I would like to password protect a site but am not publishing it to .mac. Is there a piece of code you can stick into the HTML manually to do this?

I am answering my own question! A friend tipped me off — your hosting company may offer password protection. That was the case for me. I went into the site settings and was able to set up a password for the entire site or only certain directories. I hope this helps someone!

Password protection library in iTunes is not working

I have several computers and Apple TV's around the house and use home sharing. For one perticular computer I would like to have Homesharing on but password protected. I go to sharing in that particular library, check the password protected box and tip the passphrase. If I then open the library in Apple TV or from another computer I am not prompted with a password and the library is open to all other iTunes on the Homesharing... How come? Could somebody help me?

This exclamation mark next to it when all my files are in a folder in my computer. means that ituns can't find the actual music files. Thus, they can't sync to the iPod.
Find the music file/reimport/redownload the songs and try again. Y omay have to do this to get them to sync
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync/delete all music and resync
- Reset all settings

My password protected direct deposit doc. will not open. Says check for caps,caps not on. can't open

My retirement document comes as password protected to open. When I put in my password adobe says check caps. caps are not on. will not accept my password and can't open my direct deposit document.

Can you password protect an pdf Portfolio? Not a single pdf, but a pdf Portfolio.

I know how to password protect individual PDF's. My quesiton is can one password protect an entire pdf Portfolio after assembling the Portfolio.

I'm using Acrobat Pro 11.0.6, if it helps. I was able to find it at File > Portfolio Properties > Security > Security Method.
This is what I was looking for, Dave. It prompts the user for the password when they try to open the portfolio.

Password protecting PDF from copy/paste, not secure in Mac "Preview"?

I created a book for someone and sent a PDF of it. I secured it with a password so it can be printed but not edited or copy/paste compatible. When I open the PDF on Acrobat on my PC, its locks me out as it should. I sent to friend and of course its the same way on Acrobat on his Mac. But when he opened it in "Preview" on the Mac, it lets him copy paste. He said he is using OSX Lion 10.7.4.
Why is Mac's viewer bypassing the security and how can I keep it from doing this?

A PDF consumer (viewer) is expected to honor any standard security restrictions that are in place, but there is no way to ensure that every one will. A different method that provides a strong form of security could be used, such as Certificate security or LiveCycle Rights Management (a type of DRM), but then non-Adobe viewers such as Preview wouldn't be able to open the document at all.

Is there a way to password protect Firefox, so it cant be opened without having the proper password?

Password protecting documents in Pages

Is it possible to save a document in Pages (1.0.2) with password protection?

Stephen - This is not possible. I use this workaround for the one or two files I really need to password protect: I use Disk Utility to create a new disk image. I choose the size I want (5 meg is good enough) and select the option to encrypt it. This makes a disk image that requires a password to view. Once it's open, I can put any files I want on it.
This won't be a good solution if you want to send someone a password protected file or have other needs.
Incidentally: Since iPods have no security, when I backup my entire personal folder to it, I do it onto the same kind of encrypted image. This should be very safe in case I lose my iPod.

After Effects - Multiprocessing not allowed even when a Proxy is used?

Hi everybody!
          I have a composition (Comp1) that uses an effect which doesn't allow multiprocessing (e.g., Lens Blur) -- this I understand.
          Comp1 is used inside of Comp2. When I pre-render Comp1 and use that render as a proxy for Comp1 inside of Comp2, I still can't use multiprocessing. This is the confusing bit. I'd think since the Lens Blur effect isn't actually being rendered, it shouldn't give me any guff.
          Alas, it does. Anyone else run into this? Is there a workaround, or is it a bug/oversight by our friends at Adobe?

I appreciate your help, but I think I'm still missing something. When I set a proxy movie for my Comp1, come render time, it should never look inside Comp1 at all — it should just use the proxy movie. The LensBlur effect is not applied to Comp1 itself, it's used INSIDE Comp1.
To what end would AE look inside the real Comp1 when it's been assigned a proxy movie?

Typically, a proxy is a low-resolution substitute for the real image to make AE work a little faster, right? When AE renders, it doesn't render the proxy, it uses the high-resolution real image, right? The same thing is happening in your project.
If it doesn't impact your work to use a lower-resolution substitute for your comp 1, I'd suggest not using the substitute as a proxy.
If full resolution matters, make a full-resolution prerender.

Can't login password protected site in Windows XP !

i use iWeb to make a password protected web page and publish to .Mac. I test it at home using my iMac G5 with Safari and Firefox, everything is ok.
when i am at office today, i test it by using Windows XP PC with Firefox and IE, it just keep asking me the user name and password, i can not login the web page.
i am sure the user name and password is correct.
Why i can login the password protected site in Mac but not Win?

I am having the same problem. A friend who uses AOL cannot log in either. Yet I can from my computer with either Safari or Firefox and even with the old version of Explorer that sleeps in the app folder.

Problem accessing password protected podcast

Hello,
I'm having trouble accessing a password protected podcast. I'm not asked for my username or password. The download fails silently. When I click on the exclamation point in the left columb I see the following message:
There was a problem downloading "http://rss.somepodcast.net/podcast/podcast.xml".
Authorization is needed to access "http://rss.somepodcast.net:8080/podcast/podcast.xml".

I'm using iTunes 7.0.2 on MacOS 10.3.9. Has anyone experienced similar problems? I discovered that I could access the podcast if I hand edit a copy of the feed and insert my username:password into each link.
