Password Protection from Acrobat to Reader

I'm creating pdfs with security protection so that my users can enter a password to edit form fields. I can set the security password just fine in Acrobat, but when I open the pdf in Reader, it never prompts for the password. As a result, no one can access the level of security I specified, since there isn't a chance to enter the password.
Does anyone know why it's not asking for the password and how I can get that to happen? I posted this in the Reader forum and someone suggested it may be an issue on the Acrobat side.
If it makes any difference (it shouldn't!) Acrobat is on Mac and Reader is on PC.

There are two passwords.
1. An open password. This is needed to open the PDF file at all. Once
open, it has the set of permissions you chose for it.
2. A control password. This is NOT an end user password. It is your
own password, which you can use to gain access for editing the PDF
again. Adobe Reader can't edit, so it doesn't offer any choice to
remove this.

when i try to password protect a pdf document using acrobat x on windows 7 platform i can't get to the OK button to effect changes because the window extendds beyond the screen. there is no scroll option and changing the display resolution didn't help. any ideas?

What's your display resolution? Some of the dialog boxes for Acrobat X require at least 800px height to fit, even though Acrobat's main window will fit on a 768-high display.
Acrobat X's dialog boxes cannot be resized smaller than they are, nor will they display scroll bars if they're too big for the screen - but the "Help" "OK" and "Cancel" buttons are part of the tab order so even if you can't see them, you can tab to them and press ENTER. In the case of the password security dialog, select the "Compatibility" dropdown menu, then press SHIFT+TAB twice to go backwards to the OK button.

Removing Password Protection From External Disk Attached to Time Capsule

I have an TV and when I try to watch a show it always says that "file format is not recognized." I am pretty sure it is because my computer gets disconnected from the external disk that all the media is on. This disk is attached to my time capsule. I wish I could make it so it would automatically reconnect with the disk after being disconnected, but I can't figure out how to make the external disk non password protected without making my network password protected also. Does that make sense? How do I make a disk so it is not password protected if it is on my password protected network? If my computer is on the network then I should be able to access discs without having to put in an additional password, no?

If I set a password for my iWeb site, which is published to my MobileMe account, will its content be protected from search engines (Google, Bing, ..).
I want to make sure that whatever I put on that website remains private and only those with the username/password can access it.

It should do. If Google does not know that your site exists, then there is nothing to crawl or find.

How do I stop "Password Protect" from adding blank pages?

I have a pdf that I want to password protect. I choose that option under File/Form Properties/Pdf Security. As soon as I click "ok", I find that the document now has extra blank pages. I've tried playing with the sub forms but I can't delete the extra pages. What do I need to do?

Remove password protection from a disk.

I have a lacie usb drive that I want to use to get video off a simple pc that I video surgery on. (I am a surgeon). I can't do anything to the software on the PC. I have previously set up password protection on the Lacie drive . When I put it into a PC the password dialogue doesnt get launched and the volume is never mounted. I would like to remove the password protection, - can anyone tell me how . Have spent ages with Disk utility and Diskwarrior.

I have a PDF file that is protected by a password. I tried almost all free online tools to unlock the password but they don't work. I know the password but online tools are showing the error: The uploaded file does not seem to be a valid PDF file.

Perhaps the file is not a .pdf file after all.
Anyway, .pdf files are generated by Adobe Acrobat, not by Windows. Checking the FAQs at the Adobe site is probably the best way to solve your problem. I would also run this test: Create my own .pdf file, apply a password, then remove the password.

How to reassociate PDF files in IE from Acrobat to Reader

How can I change program associated to open PDF in Internet Explorer. I have installed both Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat and at the moment Acrobat is the one which opens PDFs in IE. I wish to change it to Reader. I have associated PDF files within Reader in windows but IE still seems to remember old setting and open PDFs in Browser window using Acrobat.
I have Uninstalled Acrobat and then IE opens PDFs in Reader but when I intall Acrobat back IE automatically reverts back to Acrobat. Changed association of PDFs in control panel folder options but still same issue.

For several years I have used this tweak from Reinhard Francke.
And I have submitted it in this forum several times.
This registry key decides, which program opens pdf in IE:
The value shall be the full path to the exe. E.g:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe
(Default) = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
Remarks:
The example is regarding using the reader (AcroRd32.exe)
Its not an "official" recommandation to install both Acrobat and Adobe Reader
By me, I have only used it up to versions 7.

Viewing pop-up note comments from Acrobat in Reader Mobile

I've added some pop-up note comments to a PDF in Acrobat (though it could have been made in Reader X in the same way). I now want to view those comments in Adobe Reader on my mobile device. However although the text where the comment has been added appears highlighted, when I tap on it I only get the options to change the opacity or color, or clear the highlight.
I've tried this on both my iPhone & Nexus 7, with the same result. I've googled extensively to try & find the answer, but have drawn a blank. Where am I going wrong?

I don't want to change or add comments, I just want to be able to view pop-up comments I've added in Acrobat in Adobe Reader Mobile.
It looks like this functionality is not available in Reader Mobile. However I've been able to get round it by using Sticky Notes instead.

Converting PDF forms from Acrobat to reader, Images won't upload?

I've created an editable PDF form in Acrobat and saved it so that the document can be populated in Reader and saved. Only problem is that the functionality to upload an image is not working, you click on it in Reader and nothing happens? I understand that LiveCycle Designer is the one to use, but it only works on Windows, I'm a Mac. Is there a way of saving the PDF in Acrobat Pro so that both the editable text fields and image upload functionality work in Reader?

If a website doesn't offer to store the password then chances are that it doesn't fill that password either if you use the "Saved Passwords Editor" extension. You can only use that extension in such a case as a reminder in case you forget the password.

I have a document that I created and password protected using Acrobat 11.0.2 (Mac).
I can open it with the same password using Reader 11.0.2 (Mac) but not Reader 11.0.2 (Windows). On Windows I get an "invalid password" message.
Anyone else found this?

I can tell you in my testing that my results were consistent regardless of whether I typed the hyphen at the keyboard or pasted it in from a text document.
So, that still leaves us with "is this a bug?" or "is it a prohibited character?"
Obviously, in these days of concern over password strength, it is important to understand the range of available character set, so we can select effective (and legal) characters and not have to deal with the trial-and-error of trying to learn which characters to avoid.
I am also still confused as to why the exact same password, entered in the exact same manner succeeds on one platform and not another. Unless the input dialog is silently converting the character (which I think could only be diagnosed with a debugger), results should be consistent. After all, the "P" in PDF does stand for "Portable".
Do you have the resources to try and reproduce my test case? I would be curious to know if the problem occurs both ways or just Mac->Windows.
