Password retrieval

Is it possible to somehow retrieve the password set for an XServe RAID? i set up my RAID over a year ago and never had to change anything to it and lost the paper with the password when moving offices. i feel so stupid.
if anyone has any ideas please let me know, also please let me know if my only option is to reformat the RAID. and how to do that when i don't have the password and can't really utilize the XServe RAID Admin Tool.
many thanks in advance,
NSE

Dear Wolfman,
like your other self in the movie "Pulp Fiction", i call on you to solve a problem. i followed your suggestion, but after the push the reset button, the Fibre Channel Link light corresponding which ever controller module i reset goes off. in the interim when i try to connect through the RAID Admin i get a connection failure. this happens on both controller modules, top and bottom. on the desktop the XServe appears normal and functions normal.
what am i doing wrong? and what to do right?
many thanks in advance,
KN

  • Password Retrieval Question

    Hello BB Users,
This is all new to me so I of course forgot the answer to the security question needed to retrieve my password.  I do have the BB backed-up on the BB Desktop Manager.  I exhausted all 10 attempts, wiped out the previous data and have reinstalled using the back-up.  How do I retrieve my password without remembering the answer to the question?

    Hi
In theory, you shouldn't be able to retrieve the password; its specifically for security and it works; I had the same problem a week or 2 back.
You shouldn't need a reminder for the old password now, its null and void. If you have a set a new password, or are going to do, then take very careful note of what it is and be careful when using numbers as you may think you have entered 123 but it has been registered as wer.
Folk have many ways of saving passwords, one I like is to hide it in a document on the PC.

  • Backup password retrieval

I just updated my iPod touch 4g, and a prompt came up asking for the password to unlock my iPod backup. I have no idea what it could be (it's been a while since I've updated) so I wanted to know if I could answer security questions to retrieve my password or maybe make a new one?

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum, this is my first post, however, I am an experienced computer user and administer a network etc.
The reason I've posted that below, may possibly help those out who have set an encryption password on their iTunes backup, are sure of their backup password, possibly because they've recorded it in a password manager, as I myself have done, and then find that when they need to restore a backup, the encryption password will not work, receiving an error "the password you have entered is incorrect please try again" (or similar).
A few months ago I purchased a new home tower. Whilst I was commissioning it, I used my Dell XPS laptop as my main computer. During this time I had occassion to change my encrypted iTunes password. I did this un the Dell XPS and recorded the new password in my password manager, so I knew that it was correct.
Yesterday, using my new tower which has iTunes installed along with several backups of my iPhone, I attempted to change my encryption password. I tried and tried but received the error message as above. I should also say that I have my iPhone set to complete a cloud backup each day. So to recap, I first backed up my iPhone in iTunes on my tower and then forced an iCloud back up of my iPhone, so my tower Itunes account showed that I had backed up both to the tower and to the cloud, all withing a few minutes of each other.
then attempted to change my encryption password, however I was told that it was incorrect. Having thought about this overnight, I fired up the XPS, plugged my iPhone into iTunes, carried out a local backup on the XPS and then attempted to change my encryption password, and it worked. The XPS recognised my password straight away. I then turned off find my iPhone and requested a restore from the cloud backup which it would have allowed me to do had I not cancelled.
So it appears that the moral of this story is, that to successfully retreive a cloud or local backup and restore it to your device, you must use the computer that you originally set up your encryption password on, or else, you will neither be able to restore a backup or change your encryption password as it appears neither of these, from my experience at least, are backed up when doing a backup on another computer other than the original one (my XPS for example) and when backing up to the Cloud, the encyption password is not retained here either.
I'd be interested as to what answers the Apple techies come back with re this one............something's not right somewhere !!!!!

  • Gmail password retrieval

    Hello..
For whatever reason, my MacPro "lost" my gmail password.  My other 2 apple platforms: iPhone 4S and iPad 2 still remembers it...but it is of course, encoded and I cannot read it.
Problem is, I cannot recall my password as my son set up my gmail on all of my Apple products  and he is unavailable.
I checked Google but nothing re: Lion can be found.
Has my MacPro saved my gmail password anywhere?
Gmail asks so many questions to reset my password...the only answer I know for sure is my maiden name.  But that is not sufficient to reset my password.
    Please help! Thanks

Does she remember the email she used? If she does she can reset. If you forgot your Apple ID password
If she forgets apple ID, she can also use this. https://iforgot.apple.com/appleid
Make sure to check your spam folder in your email as well. Also check your Rescue email for account retrieval as well Manage your Apple ID primary, rescue, alternate, and notification email addresses

  • WIFI Password retrieveal

How can I retrieve my wifi password?

For your wireless network at home?
If so, do you have an Apple wireless router?
Regardless, the password for your wireless network should be in your Mac's keychain. Check Keychain access on your Mac for this.

  • Keychain, lost password retrieval Q

    Hi,
A while ago I had a hard disk crash on my G4 powerbook. I changed the disk as it was well out of warranty. I have since purchased an external caddy for the disk and slurped off all the retrievable data, among that was a well used keychain. Because I didn't use it for a while I have only mostly remembered the password. I have enough of it in my head to reduce the search space for me, but it is still to large to do it manually. Is there a way of running something like John the ripper on it?
    Mike

Further to my last post, my experience matches the "update" information on this website:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10331671-263.html
It does not let me in to the keychain that carries the lost details I have in there.
I am sure that the search space I have to search is a 1000 or 3 attempts, much too much to do by hand through the gui. Apples details do not tally with my experience of following apples steps to "recover" the keychain. I can see the entries in there, notes and login's etc, but unable to access any of them.

how do I retrieve my AirPort password?
seem to have too many Apple related passwords!

Always write them down in a log book.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3372
The security if the TC is so easy to fix.. just hit reset.. 1sec. then all the passwords change to default for 5min to allow you to change them to new ones.

Assuming this is for a Linksys router....perform a factory reset. switch the router on, press the reset button and hold it in for 30 sec, then relaease. power down the router, wait 30 sec, then power it back up...
login at 192.168.1.1 using password of admin, then reconfigure the router...

  • Password retriever application/tool

    Hi...,
We have an application where the user can clink on "Forgot My password" link to retrieve his/her password. Right now we do ask a security question as set by the user when the user enters the user id.
But going forward we want to send an email to the user with a link , so that the user can click on the link & then is asked the security question. This is to make sure that we do not expose the security question to the user directly after entering the user id.
Secondly, to make it more secure, how do I put a image verification , so that the user enters the text shown in the image before he/she does anything.
This is being currently used by google & other applications.
    Regards,
    Praveen

    Hi...Aparajith,
    Thanks a lot!!
Just another question. Within that link along with the user's email address I want to keep a unique identifier which is randomly generated.
    https://www.domain.com?userid=[email protected]&id=xz123458090sdfsdf0897890sd8fdsfdsfsdfdsf
So that when the user clicks on it the unique id & userid are verified & then the user is allowed to proceed further.
Are there any tools available or do we have to hand code them.
    Regards,
    Praveen

  • Restriction password retrieval

HELP! we put a restriction password on my sons ipod 4 and of course almost 2 years later we cant remember it!
We want to do one of two things....restore the ipod back to factory settings and pass on to our younger child, or - reassess the restrictions we had on there, but of course, we cant do either without the password! How do we retrieve it? Ive tried about 5 different possiblities, and making some up, and now we have been locked out for an hour.
    Thanks

    Forgotten RESTRICTIONS Passcode
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod. . Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
    - If you are up to file manipulation see the following but it may not work for iOS 6.1.3 or iOS 7

  • Password retrieval from LDAP

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to retrieve the password field from ldap and then send the same to the requested user ( forgotten password functionality ).
I am able to retrieve the password from LDAP in encrypted form(which is in md4 format) but not being able to get it in the clear text format from a ldap.
If anyone has successfully done the same, I would greatly appreciate
if he/she could help me out .
    Thanks

My getpass.cmd script extracts the PORTAL, ORASSO, ORASSO_PA, and ORASSO_PS passwords from OID. Take a look at that and you should be able to see a way to get what you need...
