Anyone an idea what's wrong here and how I can fix this?
It's some time ago and I'm not 100% sure what solved the problem in the end.
But you could try doing a backup (Archive) your db (in the server admin) and then restoring that backup again. Maybe that helps.
I'm now keepking an archive after every change I made to the OD. Hopfully that will save me in the future from such a problem.

Password Server stopped and damaged DirectoryService.pid
I have a small design studio (three Macs and three Windows machines) using a Mac Mini Server running 10.6.8. It was running well until the end of July (coincided with my vacation), when staff reported they couldn't access the server using the normal passwords etc. I was able to talk them through Disk Utility etc so they could at least check the machine was accessible. One of the guys in the office managed to access it using a very old user/password combination, but nobody has been able to tell me exactly what else they did to access the files.
Looking at it today using Server Utility I found the following:
- Password Server is listed as 'stopped'
- Open Directory error logs show multiple unexpected shutdowns
- Password Service was shut down on 29th July and hasn't restarted
- 'Damaged Files' folder has a file called '0674b6e6DirectoryService.pid' in it
- Services like Mail and iChat are constantly on, even after turning them off.
- Time Machine isn't backing up and hasn't done so since 29th July...
No-one can access files using their allotted user names and passwords (the same ones that had been working for the last four years without issue). We can all access the server using this old user/password combination, but
I was already preparing to buy a new server this year, however is there a way to resurrect the passwords/user accounts? Can I replace the damaged file with one from a Time Machine back up - if so how?
Any help gratefully received.
RichardI've even recreated the accounts in Active Directory (Mac Server's Computer account) and no luck.... any help/tips would be greatly appreaciated!
thanks!!!! -

RCONAG6 192.168.10.123:2376 Remote console connection grantedHello,
maybe your problem has to do something with loading SLPDA.NLM. If you
cannot get to open Autoexec.ncf then go back to DOS-Mode, rename this
file in C:\nwserver-directory and start again. i have seenthis behaviour
on servers loading SLPDA with no network-communication and they stop
loading at WPSD.NLM. Try to load SLPD.NLM manually when the server is
up. After that shift the line in Autoexec.ncf where you want to load
Slpda.NLM to the end of the file and boot the server again to see what
happens.
Good luck

My Samba server stopped working and I have no idea why.
I set up a samba server once I got arch installed and it was working like a boss for about a month. Then one day (i think the machine may have rebooted) it just stopped working. I can't access my samba share from any of my other machines (all running Windows 7). I hadn't changed anything so I don't know what the culprit is. I did some update and looked at the smb.conf file but everything seems to be in order. I also tried to connect with smbclient from the machine itself and I get an NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED error.
What's going on?
Here is my smb.conf
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
# many!) most of which are not shown in this example
# For a step to step guide on installing, configuring and using samba,
# read the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. This may be obtained from:
# Many working examples of smb.conf files can be found in the
# Samba-Guide which is generated daily and can be downloaded from:
# Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
# is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
# for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
# may wish to enable
# NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
# to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

My thought is to check the current IP of the server, as your smb.conf has the line interfaces = 192.168.1.109 which means samba will only listen on that interface for requests. If the IP of the server has changed, that would explain why samba isn't working. -
my problem is my iphone 4s is connected to wi-fi with full signal(3 bars) strength but freezes when browsing and says
"Cannot Open Page"
"Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
I already reset the iphone to its factory settings and erase all contents but still the browsing speed freezes or not searching at all. Sometimes it will work and fast but then the problem uccors every now and then. Iv'e been using iphone 4 for two years and I still have it and works fine compared to this IPHONE 4S.Settings → scroll down to Safari → in Safari settings, I selected both Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
IF that does not work -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Finally - if problem still present -
Go to Settings>General>Reset
Reset the network settings - you will need to add the password of your home WiFi in your phone once more
The device should turn itself off & back on then go into Settings>Wifi and join your network -
"Cannot open page....server stopped responding"
This is the second time that my ipod errors out.
1. when using safari i get this error message " cannot open page...server stopped responding"
2. any app that connects to the internet times out. ie weather, bankofamerica
--I tried resetting everything allowed. last time i had to restore the ipod which i lost all my music i paid for at the itunes store (yes i know i should of backed it up.... )
--its not my router cuz im tried different wifi locations and it doesnt help
can someone please help me....We all wish WiFi was simple to use, plug and play, etc. but it is not. You need some understanding of networking to know what is going on. You can Google "wireless networking" and get some basic understanding of what is happening.
Your iPod is telling you that it is not connected to a network. You have a network strength meter in the top left of your screen and you have the network information in Settings > WiFi.
Start with these steps:
1. Reset your network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
2. After your iPod restarts, log back into a network using Settings > WiFi > Other network
3. Type in the network name, security used, and the password, if needed
4. If your iPod connects, you will get a check mark displayed next to the network name.
5. Tap the blue arrow (>) next to the network name and look at the information displayed. If your IP address starts with 169.x, you are not connected to that network and further trouble shooting is required.
Write back with lots more details. Like the network you are connecting to, the router used (if it is your home network), and so on. -
Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding
"Could Not Open Page.... Safari could not open page because the server stopped responding"
....but it could worked just fine for the first 2 weeks of iPhone4 ownership.
WiFi network at home, working fine with MacBook, visiting friends' phones, my new iPhone4 - no problems. Had to power down the modem & router very briefly last night. Rebooted, MacBook connected fine, iPhone doesn't - it goes through the motions - shows all signs of full connection, full signal, password accepted etc etc - but web pages will not open, displaying after 30 secs the warning message above.
Tried at work on another wireless network - same response.
Have gone through all the FAQs, reset network settings, forgotten network etc - still nothing.
Anyone experienced the same and fixed it?
cheersI'm having a very similar problem, but it's with my 3G connection, not with wifi. The display tells me there is 3G connectivity, and I get the loading symbol, but pages stop loading a few seconds after I try to open them, and some time later I get the "server stopped responding" message. That happens with addresses I know are working, such as Google. Some times, restarting the iPhone or the internet connection (by switching plane mode on and off) solves the issue, but it has been happening often these days.

When I search for stuff on the internet it says safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding and non of my games work either. What do I do to fix this?

How to rebuild the Password Server?
I have over a dozen customer servers running 10.4.3 now, which have been set up under either Panther or some older Tiger Server release.
All of them show some kind of corruption in the Password Server database which means that after restarting the server passwords stop working, the Trusted Binding of client Macs fails etc. etc. - absolutely intolerable in every way.
10.4.3 is supposed to prevent this widespread corruption from happening again, but it seems to been unable to heal an already damaged database. One might assume that reentering the passwords should create new working records, but so far I don't see this to be the case.
So it looks like starting from scratch is the only save procedure here, but this is very tedious and likely to introduce new problems because you'll always overlook some detail somewhere.
Anybody managed to just trash the Password Server database while keeping the rest of the Open Directory setup?
Thanks,
NorbertThe other thing i did notice was that once and a
while i got a overflow file and went in and opened
the overflow in a text editor and found the user name
and uid deleted the user deleted the overflow files
and recreated the user without any issues. I was
going 8 weeks without any overflow files until a
recent power outage (APC got fried and died during a
very large storm).
Can someone explain what an overflow file is? We just had it happen to a server, running 10.4.3, and the password server quits after a bit. I'm not sure how many are logged in before it quits.

I get message on my iphone 4s safari cannot open the page because the server stopped responding
I get a message on my i phone 4s safari cannot open the page because the server stopped responding
Hello Beckieor,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning network issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,

Why is my internet not working? It tells me that the server stopped responding
No internet connection, it says the server stopped responding
I recently encountered an issue like this with my friend's iPhone. Issue resolved once you change your password. Log in on your PC/MAC and change your password. Once you complete that, then try on your iPhone. Hope this workds for you.

OD Replica Password Server Not Running
I have two Intel xServes running 10.5.1 server. The first server I created the OD master and that worked great. The second server I setup as an OD replica. They are both on the same network and no port are blocked between them. In fact they are in the same rack. When I created the replica it all started to work great. It authenticated and downloaded the OD database over SSH. Then it got to the point in the process on the replica that it said, "Starting replica service on Master". It just hung there and wouldn't go any further. I was watching the master OD the whole time and it showed the replica as being bound and enable and that everything was great, but the OD replica was still just sitting there waiting. So I closed the OD assistant window and when I did that the replica acted ok. LDAP server shows running and so does the Kerberos server. But Password server says stopped and I don't know why and want it fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-BrianSame problem here running 10.5.2 server. You can start the Password server replica using slaconfig -starpasswordserver, but it not be a replica from master. If look at the Master's Password Service Replication log it states "DoSync: This password server does not have replicas."

Safari Problem, Server Stopped Responding
When I attempt to open a site I receive the message "Safari can't open this page because server stopped responding". I changed out my router and my iPhone 4 connects to my Wi-Fi but I just discovered this problem with Safari. So far I've not been able to solve the problem. Any suggestions?
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!
Tried all the suggestions I could find and the only one that worked was to go to Wi-Fi, click on the > beside your network, then click on Forget this Network. Then go to Choose a Network and click on your network, you will have to enter you password. This solved my problem on 2 iPhone 4's........I did not have this problem with my iPad2 and my wife's Kindle Fire for some reason. -
When trying to connect to internet, my i6 phone says "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." However, our house's wi-fi is on. Any ideas why this is happening?
