Passwords after storing are automatically being cleared when i start firefox the very next time

when firefox asks me whether to save passwords i always click remember because i don't like to enter the passwords again and again and i only use this computer.
recently, the stored passwords are being cleared when i start firefox.
and firefox asks whether to save passwords again and again.
i have tried the solutions: there are no exceptions, no private browsing and passwords are cleared after shutdown option is not selected. is there a solution for this????

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.

Under Options; Privacy I have Clear history when Firefox closes ticked and within the Settings for Clearing History I have Cookies ticked. Cookies are not being cleared when I close the browser. Windows 7, SP1 x64

If clearing the cookies doesn't help then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete cookies.sqlite-journal and cookies.txt, if they exist, in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

Why won't my bookmarks side menu automatically pop up when I start firefox

Most times when I start Firefox the Bookmarks side menu does not automatically pop up, and I must start it almost every time.

The Bookmarks Sidebar isn't supposed to open when Firefox is started. But, if it is open when you close Firefox, it should be open the next time you start Firefox.

I'm not sure what causes this.
As the first step, I recommend backing up your existing sessionstore files.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Scroll down to the files whose names start with sessionstore. You should find at least sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak. If the .js extension does not appear on sessionstore, you should turn off the Windows feature that hides file extensions from you, so that you can work with file names as accurately as possible. Make backup copies of all the sessionstore files to somewhere like your Documents folder for possible later restoration.
Next, try one of the data mining techniques in these posts to rescue the URLs from the sessionstore.js or sessionstore.bak file:

Password doesn't work the very next time!

When I start Firefox, the name goes to the bar at the bottom, but I can't open it. Clicking it does nothing, I am still left with my desktop. So temporarily, I have to access the internet using IE, which I don't prefer. How do I get round this?

I used FF for some time, then I looked up a page in Turkish (not my language), and the page appeared in a small format, and I couldn't open it. To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

When I start firefox, the Firefox 4 welcome page always opens, along with my home page.

I have a mac, am running version 10.6. I recently updated firefox to version 4.0.1.
After updating to the new version, and restarting firefox, it opened to the "welcome to version 4" page here are all the changes, etc, etc, in addition to opening my home page in a separate tab.
However, it never stopped doing that. Every time I quit firefox and restart it opens two tabs: one with the welcome page, one with my home page.
In the General tab of Preferences it still lists my correct home page as the home page. I have tried changing my homepage to a different website and to a blank page, but whenever I quit and restart it again opens the two tabs (and the homepage gets reset in my preferences back to what it was).
Any thoughts??

When I start FireFox the process with the image name System and user name System (looking in Task Manager) starts taking tremendous CPU time (up to 50% or more).

I am using FireFox 4.0.1 for Windows, and routinely check for updates. Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Firefox recently did an automatic update for firefox to version 29 upon restart and all the tabs I had before won't load as before. It appears that the number of tabs open up saying "new tab" on each one but they won't load once I click on them as before the update. I'm trying to find a way for those links to show again. I used herokuapp.com as mentioned in another article but all the blank tabs are shown as about:blank.

Sorry to hear about that. Can you check your profile folder for a special .bak file created during the upgrade? Here's what I mean:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
This should display your profile folder. Scroll down and look for a file with a name similar to the following (the date part will be different):
sessionstore.bak-20140506152807
Make a copy of that file to a more convenient location, such as documents, and try to use one of the file recovery methods to find your missing URLs in there. You might need to change the file ending to .bak or .js if it's hard to load with the date included.

The history sidebar does not automatically come up when I start Firefox.

I always had the history sidebar set to appear when Firefox booted. Now I have to manually open it each time. Why?

Delete localstore.rdf or rename the file to localstore.rdf.sav in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] to test if the file is corrupted.

Then you can restore the customization by copying "localstore.rdf.sav" to "localstore.rdf" if it didn't work.
