Passwords in Finder

Hi,
A few days ago, I must have enabled something that I didn't mean to. All of a sudden, I am now getting password requests when I am moving things into the trash, moving in and out of folders, etc...
I have looked under Finder prefs and system prefs, and can't find any settings of that sort.
This is really annoying, so can anyone help?

Follow petrock's instructions:
chmod -R -a "everyone deny delete" ~/
Note: This will remove the 'everyone deny delete' ACE (access control entry) from all files and folders in your home directory, the next command will add it back to where it needs to be
chmod +a "everyone deny delete" ~/ ~/Desktop ~/Documents ~/Downloads ~/Library ~/Movies ~/Music ~/Pictures ~/Public ~/Public/Drop\ Box ~/Sites
Note: This only applies the 'everyone deny delete' ACE to the folders listed, not their contents. These folders are required by the system, this ACE prevents you (or anyone else) from renaming, moving or deleting them (because they are required by the OS).
Just copy/paste the bold text, one at a time, into a Terminal window (/Applications/Utilities) and press return. That should do it.
Good luck!

Do you have access to old emails or could you ask a friend to provide you information about your iCloud ID? If not, do you rember your ID for "Find My iPhone", because it could be the same ID as for iCloud. After you have obtained the information about your ID you can reset your password here: https://iforgot.apple.com

  • How it is possible to put on the password for  (find my ipad)

Hiii .... Can I noe how to turn on the password for (find my iPad )

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

  • Password Keeper Find Function no longer works

I just upgraded to a BlackBerry Curve and was very happy when my Password Keeper just showed up, accepted my old password and had my database. However, the find function no longer works. If I type A, is says no passwords found even though I can see a bunch as soon as I open it. So how does one fix and non-functioning password keeper find function. It is painful trying to get to the ones that start with "Z!"

Try a simple reboot on the device and check again.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Can't delete file from LR, requires password from finder Mac OS

I have an older Powermac running OSX 10.5.8. I store all of my images under the same folder on the same external hard drive. For some reason, and this has never happened before, has always functioned normally before this, I don't know why, images cannot be deleted and moved to the trash in LR. From the finder level, those files each require I type in my password (Finder requires that you type in your password.) This has never happened before, I've tried a shut down and cold re-boot but the behavior persists. Images are not locked and everything looks normal but not behaving normal. I realize this is not a Lightroom problem, but I need to delete from Lightroom because it is where I can review the images best while choosing which ones can be deleted. Anyone seen this Mac behavior before? Any fix you know of?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Sound's like the files don't have the correct permissions. Since they're on an external drive, you could just select the drive's icon, bring up the info window (Cmd+i) and tick the checkbox "Ignore ownership on this volume".
I do that with all my additional internal/external drives by default. It's usually no problem unless you need to prevent other users from accessing the files.

  • How to password protect "Find My Mac" feature?

Anyone know how I might password protect the "Find My Mac" feature that's accessible in the iCloud System Preference Pane?  My reasoning is that if someone stole my computer while I was still logged in, it seems far too easy for the thief to simply navigate to the iCloud System Preference screen and uncheck "Find My Mac" to prevent me from tracking down the computer.  Many of the other System Preferences can be padlocked -- seems like this feature should be as well.  Any ideas?

    Old Toad,
If I password protect my user account, then the person who has stolen my macbook would not able to login. Hence the macbook will not be able to connect to the internet because it could be a new WIFI network that my macbook has not logged in before. If it is not connected to the internet, then we cannot locate it.
Ideally, we should allow the thief to login to the macbook and allow him to use the WIFI. The iCloud settings should alone be password protected so that the thief will not be able to tinker with that. This way the macbook will come online (which ever wifi network it is) and we will be able to locate it.
    Thanks

  • Iphone4s forgot password and find my iphone on help

My daughter has forgoten her password to an old iphone 4s. We are trying to activate for my husband to use. It has Find my iPhone on and will not go through normal channels of connecting to authorized computer until we shut that off. Help

    Hi daoxmom,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.  Is your daughter using the same Apple ID that she used on her old iPhone?  She may need to go to go to the Apple ID website to reset the password for the Apple ID first. Then, she will be able to erase the iPhone and remove it from her account so that your husband can use it.
The articles below will help with this:

  • Toshiba 39L4333DG: help setting WiFi password - cannot find the char ^

My WiFi 61 chars password contains the char ^ and I can't find it in the onscreen keyboard!
I tried substituting it with an "upperscore" I never saw elsewhere (thinking it was just a bad font rendering), but it didn't work and a message said I have to input 64 ascii char or I can use the Hex form.
Does anybody know how to input the ^ char o use the hex format?
    Thanks!!

Hello MasterG, thanks for your help, but that's not what I needed.
The problem is my ASCII password is 61 characters long: if I try setting it in HEX form, I need 122 chars, but the onsceen keyboard stops me at char 64...
So I need a way to input ^ in ASCII form or make the keyboard accept 122 HEC chars.

  • Password and find my ipad

If I use a password on mhy ipad mini (no 3G) that will prevent anyone else from getting into it (assuming they don't figure out the password).  So if they can't take it online, that means the find my ipad feature can't help me, right?

Adding to Gail's thoughts, consider this:
If your iPad is stolen, the thief will see a dark screen and have no idea at that time whether you password protected the iPad or not.  Once they click a button to see the screen, assuming there's WiFi in the area, the iPad will be connected to WiFi!  That will occur before they know the machine is password protected.
I admit I've never tried this, but I believe Find My iPad will start performing its mischief before the thief even starts to understand they're being asked for a password.

  • How to lock a specific map with a password in FINDER?

I don't use a password on my mac because you have to fill it out the whole time for ridiculous reasons. But I have one map, with all my financial numbers and invoices, that I want to secure with a password.
    How to do that?
I already tried some things but can't figure it out.
    Thanks in advance!

not sure what you mean by a map here. if you use a blank admin password (a mistake IMO), pretty much your only option is to create an encrypted disk image using disk utility and put whatever you want protected inside. when the image is unmounted, the only way to mount it is by entering the password you set at the image creation time.

  • How to disable change password in finder while connecting to a network computer?

    Hi folks,
I'd like to disable the Change Password option that shows when I want to connect into a network computer:
    - Both users (client and server) are already running with parental controls set to "prevent(s) the user from changing their password in the Users & Groups preference pane".
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I am also facing the same issue and I am not able to su to root user as the password is expired. and the user I am currently logged in does not have permission to change the root password. I just want to know how I can change the root password now? I am connected to my SPARC Solaris 10 T1000 server through hyperterminal.
The worst thing is that, I do not have IP to the server through which I can try ssh to the server and change the password. Please let me know the solution if you know.
    Thanks in advance.
