Passwords in preferences?

Hello,
My passwords don't show up in the preferences, I get user names and addresses but no passwords. FireFox does....Any help appricated

Hi..
Passwords are actually stored in Keychain Access located in /Applications/Utilities.
If you want Safari to save passwords for you to a keychain, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure User names and passwords is selected.

  • How do I stop Firefox from removing Internet Explorer settings (passwords, Google preferences etc) every time I use FF and go back to IE?

I have FF 3.6 and IE6 on the same XP machine. I have no choice
re IE6. FF is only there to allow me to access non-IE6
compatible sites. Most sites I use are on an intranet and
    must use IE6.
Typically, if I have to use FF for something, after doing so
my IE6 settings (mainly cookies) for things such as usernames,
passwords, Google preferences etc are lost. This is reproducible
    behavior.

Well, it's doing something - by design or otherwise. The only time the settings for websites I access via IE disappear is after using FireFox.

  • Annoying Safari behavior when I click show password in preferences and no favicon support

An hour ago I decided to switch to Safari 6.0.2 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 from Google Chrome and here I am with two issues.
    Issue 1:
Visiting preferences I eventually went to Password Tab as shown in screenshot below. As I checked show password option all of a sudden this pop up asking for permission :"safari wants to use your confidential information stored in your keychain."
As I have about 100 websites passwords stored in my keychain, this pop up keeps coming one by one asking for permission for each and every site. And until I select any of 3 options I can not do any activity. I do not want to click around 100 times on Always Allow or any of other 2 options. This behavior is completely nuisance to me. Any suggestion on how to get rid of this? Is this a bug in Safari? Should I report it to Apple?
    Issue 2:
I figured out that Safari does not support favicons too, which is, in my opinion very efficient way to manage bookmark on Bookmark bar as bookmarks are easily searchable. I visited few questions regarding Favicons and all says NO support for Safari but since they are quite a few months older now I am including it here, with hope, if any solution is known to anyone.
Any suggestion or assistance will be helpful for any of the issue.
Due to these two issues I am forced to switch back to chrome within an hour. :-(
I have also posted my question on StackOveflow website superuser.
One small suggestion: UI and formatting on this discussion.apple.com seems very old and painful now. Stackoverflow offers excellent in this area. Kindly try to renovate this site with rich and easy features.

If you saved the passwords in another browser, then Safari is not automatically authorized to access them, nor is any other application. That's the whole point of the keychain. You should only get the prompt once for each password.

  • New iMac wakes from sleep sluggishly and requires password despite preference setting

My new iMac (Core i7) wakes from sleep very sluggishly and it requires a password despite the fact that I have de-selected this option in Preferences.
I have a new iMac.  I used Migration Assistant to move everything from my older Mac Pro, which was running Lion.  Under the Secucrity settings in Preferences, I de-selected "Require Password."
I use a bluetooth mouse and wireless keyboard.  Typically I click the mouse to wake up my Mac.  The screen comes to life and the cursor moves with the mouse, but...how can I explain this?  When I move the mouse in this situation, the cursor paints a gray swath over the desktop screen.  It looks like I am using a paint program.
After clicking the mouse repeatedly the computer becomes responsive and the password entry screen appears--most of the time.  I have tried to set it up so a password is not required, but usually I get this screen.  SOMETIMES, it behaves correctly--say one-fourth of the time.
Another problem...  When I shut the iMac off and then back on, it does not always link to my Apple bluetooth mouse.  I have to connect a USB mouse and re-link the wireless mouse.
I wonder if this is a software/OS issue.  My old Mac Pro had similar wake-up issues, and I wonder if Migration Assistant transferred them to my new machine.
Your thoughts and great ideas are appreciated.

I too am having trouble with my bluetooth mouse after upgrading to 10.7.2 and the associated iOS 5 upgrades.  The mouse keeps losing its connection.  I've turned bluetooth off, trashed the preferences, rebooted and repaired both the keyboard and mouse but the mouse keeping dropping out.  Keyboard seems ok.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Password System Preferences

How do I remove my password for System Preferences?  I can use my administrator password to open my Mac but this password is not accepted to unlock when I want to change System Preferences. An important reason why I want to change is that Date and Time preferences were changed without my input - believe it or not but my EST was changed to PST and I am not able to correct the time zone!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take the action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

  • Safari 7.0.5 problem-- I can't erase saved passwords-- I delete it in Preferences, it keeps entering the old password. I just got locked out of a bank account-- AGAIN!

I changed my password for an important account.
I deleted the old password under preferences on Safari.
I entered the new password and it asked to save it.
Next time I went to the account----it entered the old password--- and after three tries, I was locked out of the account.
I re-did the whole process--- it happened again!
    Help!

Passwords saved by Safari are actually stored in Keychain Access.
Open Keychain Access located in   HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the website you are trying to change the password for top right corner of the Keychain Access window.
That website keychain should be there.
Then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Then back to Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Then select the Passwords tab then delete the the website. Make sure: AutoFill user names and passwords is selected.
Now go to the bank account website and try changing your password.

  • I changed my password, now can't get my Mail!

Oh help. I couldn't remember my password when I logged into the community, so I had an e-mail sent to me and re-set it. I made sure to copy down the password. I successfully changed it and was able to post my question (in another topic than this). Then I changed the password under Preferences in Mail, then sent myself a test e-mail, but I never received it. So I logged into iCloud with the new password, and was successful, and my test e-mail was there. I tried changing the password again in Mail but still can't get the test e-mail on my notebook! This isn't a matter of having copied the password wrong, because I cut-and-pasted it as I normally do when I change a password, and I still have the original password which I had typed in a blank e-mail (I don't know if that's a safe way to do it, but it's what I did).
I do hope you can figure out why Mail isn't accepting the new password when iCloud is!
    Thanks,
    Lizzy

That was helpful but it didn't solve the problem. There were two red dots, now only one, though I copied and pasted the same password in both places. (I don't recall having to change the password in two places before).
The red dot next to smtp.mail.me.com:(myname) disappeared
The red dog next to smtp.me.com:(myname) is still there. It says, "trying to log in to this SMTP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct."
    Thanks,
    Lizzy

  • Can't save preferences in CS5

When I close PS CS5 I get an error message that "Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges...."  Searching other threads it appears that some people were able to solve this problem by going into User/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 and changing the permissions to Read & Write.  But on my computer I have two choices User/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Paths/Prefs or User/Library/Preference/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings.  Logically it seems I ought to be able to open the User/Library...CS5 Paths/Prefs dialogue box and change the Sharing and Permissions for Me and "everyone" to Read & Write.  So I unlock the box, enter my password, change preferences to Read & Write, close out of the dialogue box, close out of the finder and reopen CS5.  But when I close CS5, I still get the error message.  When I go back to User/Library...CS5 Paths/Prefs and reopen the dialogue box, I see that "everyone" is reset to Read only.  I have tried restarting the computer after resetting the permissions and before opening CS5 but no difference.  I have tried this when PS CS5 is open and when it is not open and still no difference.  How do I get the revised Read & Write permissions to stick?

Sorry, I tried that too and it still does not preserve the Read & Write permission for "everyone" once I open CS5.
Here is what I am doing:  navigate to Macintosh HD/Users/Karl (Me)/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photshop CS5 Paths/Prefs > click on More Info > unlock >change everyone to Read & Write > relock > close windows in Finder > open CS5 > close CS5 > same error message>permissions reset to everyone to read only.  By the way karl(me) has always had Read & Write permissions.
    I'm stumped.

  • Cannot change user passwords in System Prefs

They just don't "take." I can change passwords as root in terminal using passwd no problem but not in System Prefs pane.
The secure.log hints that something happens:
Apr 20 19:08:01 Dualie com.apple.SecurityServer: Succeeded authorizing right system.preferences by process /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Admin.framework/Resources/writeconfig for authorization created by /Applications/System Preferences.app.
But then I try to use that password and:

I had a similar problem ---- The initial problem was that my AirPort network password wouldn’t stay set and when I attempted to change the settings in the Network pane, I got a dialog box which said: “Please enter your keychain password --- System Preferences wants to use keychain ‘System.’ “ I opened “Details” and it showed Keychain: System Keychain and Application: System Preferences. I thought I had corrupted my keychain and first created a new keychain per the Mac Help instructions. This did not correct the problem and I made a screen shot *using Snapz Pro) to send to Apple or MacFixIt; I noticed that the title bar said SecurityAgentScreen which was the first time i heard of SecurityAgent --- and there is not much in the way of documentation on it.
My next attempt was to rebuild my System which did not fix the problem, so I called apple Technical Support. I was directed to move the Keychain folder from my Home directory (Home/Library/Keychains) to the Desktop and reboot. This corrected the problem, however, there is suspicious difference: the new Keychains folder contains only “login.keychain.” I surmise that the keychains are now invisible and encrypted, and, are accessed via SecurityAgent which was introduced in 10.4.1 ,SecurityAgent was most probably developed to correct keychain vulnerabilities, but.I have not been find any documentation, or at least any that I can comprehend.

  • Safari and saved passwords

    hi
i was wondering if any faced this same problem whereby Safari just doesn't remember the passwords anymore?
under safari > preferences > autofill > i have everything checked, incl users name and passwords
however, when i navigate to a website with a username/email and password to be entered, the email/username autofills, but NOT the password.
(i have been to this site, entered the password, and saved before)
however, when i type in the same password, safari says, "this password is different ... would you like to save"
of cos i do instead of "not now" or "never" but it just happenss time and time again
i have tried to "remove all" usernames and password from preferences > autofill but it didnt help
please help... its irritating me and firefox now seeems a SMARTER alternative.

Thanks, but private browsing isn't enabled. At first I thought it was a .mac sync issue, but creating a clean account on the laptop (not really a PowerBook as I said, in the first post, but a new MBP), had essentially the same problem. Saved passwords wouldn't stick. This isn't an issue on my iMac running Leopard 10.5.1.
I've tinkered a little further, and I can delete the entries from the keychain and copy in a new entry from a clean keychain imported from the iMac (using file copy, instead of .mac sync). That will load and retain the passwords properly, but then I discover new wrinkle to this problem. Safari can no longer keep track of passwords for multiple usernames for the site. My wife and I have different usernames for webmail sites. It won't retain separate passwords for each username.
No third party extensions/hacks. Again, this was a pristine system. Several people seem to have similar problems, so I'm hoping Apple's working on it.

  • ARD admin password

ARD is is password protected. If I open up ARD it automatically bypasses this password entry window so I never have to enter it. (via Keychain I presume)
If I open up my Keychain I can view the password.
However if I try to change the password via:
Preferences > Security > Change Remote Desktop Password...
it doesn't recognize the "old password" and I've tried other possible passwords too.
What are my options here? i'm moving to a different computer soon and I know ARD will ask for this password eventually and I'd rather not have to recreate all of my list.

weird, it gave me an error that the password wasn't correct but i went back into keychain and it changed it in the keychain. i then tried the new password in the same "change password" preference and it worked.

I have to enter the remember password login at least twice each time I open a new instance of Firefox. Is there a fix for this problem?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == installed 3.5

    @the-edmeister
Thanks for the advice. In my case, it is sufficient to '''uncheck''' " Saved passwords".
('''''Preferences -> Privacy -> Clear History when Firefox closes -> Settings -> Saved Passwords''''').
    Great to have Sync. :)

  • Installer won't accept my admin password

For the past month or so, any time I've tried to go through the process of installing an app that requires Installer to do the work, when it comes time to enter my admin password, nothing happens. The password box pops up, I enter the correct password (as when I enter an incorrect one it does its "incorrect password shake-thing") and, like always, the admin password box disappears. Normally at this point, the installer continues on to install the app, but instead it does absolutely nothing. I can click "Install" again to enter the password, but, again, nothing happens. I've tried changing my password, deleting preference files, doing a disk repair and permissions repair - nothing.
I'd really like to not have to re-install Lion, but it looks like that might be what I need to do. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I simply re-installed Lion - didn't reformat or anything, just went through the install process. It seems to have fixed things for the time being.

  • Enabling automatic password generation

    Hi all,
I'm new to idm 7.0 and try some basic setups. A flat file contains accountid, firstname, lastname, I create an attribute-mapping and set password.passwort to a default-value in metaview. -> Success, accounts are created and have the default-password.
Now I select "Change password generation preferences" and set "Use Identity System Account Policy password generation" to "Default Lighthouse Account Policy (with password generation)". The metaview-entry for "password.password" is delete automatically. -> when I add a new account to my flatfile, I get an error-message complaining about a missing password.password-value.
    <ResultItem type='message' status='ok'>
    <Message id='UI_MISSING_REQUIRED_FIELD' owner='password.password'>
    <String>FMPASSWORD</String>
    </Message>
    </ResultItem>
Why do I get this problem? How can I find out which form is evaluated? How can I solve this issue? I'm quite baffled, the documentation I have read does not contain any hints about such problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    CU,
    Patrick.

    Hi all,
today I can add that Reconciliation and "Load from resource" both work. They successfully discover new accounts and passwords are automatically created. However, synchronisation does not work and still complains about missing "password.password".
I suppose I'm using a wrong form, but don't know which would be better.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    CU,
    Patrick.

  • How do i save changed passwords?

For security, I must change my saved passwords to certain accounts occasionally. Ff doesn't perceive the new password and ask if it would like to be saved. It keeps filling in the old one. I've deleted the web addresses and passwords in "preferences'' but this doesn't produce a new prompt

    Hey evsworld,
Go to ''Tools >Options >Security'' tab click on ''Saved passwords''. This will give you a list of sites that you have saved a password for. Just find your site and delete that entry.
There is a lot of useful information in this article about the [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/make-firefox-remember-usernames-and-passwords?s=password+manager&r=1&as=s Firefox Password Manager]. It should answer any other questions you might have.
You can also remove the cookies from that site to make the site forget you if you've created a remember me cookie by going to ''Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies" ''
    Hopefully this helps!
