Passwords not meaningful on Mac OSx??

Hey,
I'm in love with my new mac but, I just read that if someone wanted access to the files on my HD, all they would have to do is insert a Mac OSx install disc and reset the password. This is very disconcerting for me... is there a way to make my files safer?
Thanks for the help
Tim

• Ebay-password Recovery Disc for Mac OSX Lion

Dear Apple Support Communities: recently on ebay, I have seen several sellers selling a Password Recovery Disc for Mac OSX Lion. This Password Recovery disc claims to be able to reset Lion's password of any user account WITHOUT knowing the old password! Is this possible? This is scary! If so, is there a way to prevent someone from using this disc to reset someone's password without them knowing it? If you want to see for yourself: go to ebay and enter item #  251037274344 for example. There are other sellers also. Thanks.

Anyone can do this from the terminal without even a CD, so no it's not very scary.
If they advertised that they could get into file vault, or the keychain, then that would be another story altogether.

You need Snow Leopard at least.

• It will not run on Mac OSX 10.5.8, on a G% dual 2.0ghz, now my older version of Firefox is gone...

I downloaded Firefox 4.0 and It will not run on Mac OSX 10.5.8, on a Mac G5 dual 2.0ghz. Now my older version of Firefox is gone...Why won't it work, the download page says it is for OSX and does not say it will not work on any particular OSX. Can your clarify. And can I get the old Firefox 3 back or should I continue using Safari....?

Yes I've read every one of them, none of them provide solutions whatsoever, I have spent about ten hours on this site in the past two days to no avail, none of the "resolved" threads provided any sort of solution for me, I have tried everything suggested on this website so far, multiple times, to no avail.

• Cisco Connect does not run with Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

When I first installed Cisco Connect that came with my E1500 router, I was running Mac OSX Snow Leopard (10.7) and it worked fine.  I upgraded my OSX to Mountain Lion and now when I start Cisco Connect, I get:
Unsupported operating system
The router software supports these operating systems:
- Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later
- Mac OS X 10.6.1 or later
- Mac OS X 10.7 or later
I saw some other thread/info/download on Cisco Connect with Lion (10.7) but nothing for Moutain Lion (10.8) - is there a fix forthcoming?
Thanks
Gary

All i want to do is disable the guest function through cisco. i live in an apartment and everyone logs into my guest account. i was at my neighbours and they were laughing saying they done need to subscribe for the internet cause they just log onto local wi fi. and mine is one of them. i dont know if that'll slow down my internet with so many people using it. but all i want to do is just avoid it all together and get rid of it. but in this case i am having the same problem as all of you. to disable the guest function you need to go through cisco connect and it is not compatible with mac osx mountain lion. grrrrrrr

• JMC does not launch on mac osx

I downloaded jdk1.7.0_45.jdk on mac osx 10.7.5 so I could use JMC. It started up once, and I was able to connect to a vm, but after the first time, it just hangs once the splash screen launches. I tried to turn debug with the -debug flag, but don't see any output anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions?
I put a stack trace on SO: java - JMC does not launch on mac osx - Stack Overflow
thanks for any help

I think I've seen this as well. Will investigate.
Did you add the -consoleLog flag to get the output in the Terminal window?
You could try deleting your ~/.jmc folder and see if that makes any difference.

• CC Apps showing not installed on Mac OSX 10.8.4

Can't seem to find a solution for this – when viewing the CreativeCloud menu under Apps, it says 'You have not installed any applications yet" They were showing up a couple of weeks ago, but now shows not installed. I've installed the new AAM and restarted the Creative Cloud, no change. What I did notice is that some apps updated using AAM instead of the CC. I would rather not download the entire suite again to make this work – any help here?

@mishmedia, the above solution is meant for Mac OSX.
Widows 7 and 8 (64 bit):
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old (it's in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe.)
Relaunch the browser.
Go to https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud.
Sign in with your Adobe ID and password and download the CC Desktop App.
Windows 7 and 8 (32 bit):
Rename OOBE to OOBE_old (it's in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe).
Relaunch the browser.
Go to https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
Sign in with your Adobe ID and password and download the CC Desktop App.

• X11 not working on Mac OSX 10.4.11

The Mac OS X version is 10.4.11
X11 opens and then automatically shuts down.
I tried the following already with no luck:
Installed x11 from the Mac OSX Tiger DVD.
Installed using the instructions on this website.
Installed the X11 2006 update from here.
None of them worked. X11 still closes automatically after opening it.
Any thoughts?

Imperial:
I have two units running 10.4.11, one of them I downloaded X11 from Apple and the other I checked off install X11 when I upgraded to 10.4.11 not too long ago. I just checked both of them for launching X11, thinking there was something about the window opening and then closing before opening, but they both just opened. Did you run "repair permissions" after you installed the '06 update? or did you restart the computer after installing? Don't know, but something isn't right. Perhaps try to re-install, but run repair permission before and after if you haven't already done that.

• Bridge will not open after Mac OSX update

Hi, I updated to Mac OSX 10.9.5 yesterday, and now Bridge CC will not open.  What should I do?

I'm not familiar with Lr, not having used it since trying it and thoroughly hating it when I tried when it first came out, but…  I'm not quite clear what you mean by "open in Bridge".
Bridge doesn't "open" anything, so I suspect you mean open in Adobe Camera Raw hosted by Bridge.  Bridge is just a file browser, and as such it doesn't open, edit, manipulate or save anything; it just hands the file(s) to the appropriate application, whether that be Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw (ACR), Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or even something like MS Word.
Perhaps you need to re-establish the file association at the OS X level.  What happens when you bypass Lr altogether and just double-click on a raw file in the Finder?

• Nokia Lumia 920 - Not connecting on MAC OSX 10.6.8

Hello everybody,
I have this problem that alot of people are encounting but it seems having no solutions yet.
I bought my Nokia Lumia 920 a couple days ago, made all the updates alvaible but still I can't connect my phone to my MacBook Pro.
The funny part is that my dropbox application on my mac detect my phone and tries to import my pictures where neither iTunes or Finder are able to recognize my Nokia.
The all support we got is to download a app which is not working for the OSX 10.6.8 and they seem to force us to upgrade to the 10.7 OSX.
It is my right, as a consummer, to choose to OS I want for my laptop and it is to both Windows and Nokia to make their devices compatible to their customers computers.
So here is my call to all Nokia and Windows developpers: Do not ignore us, there is a problem and the first step in order to solve it is to recognize this problem.
The least you can do is to tell us that you are currently working on it because I feel all alone in the dark but I am pretty sure I am not alone and you might loose some clients that are delighted with your phone but really "**bleep**" off the way that they are treated in the process of solving this important problem.
Thank you for your time and comprehension,
I am looking forward some advices from any developpers.

I have to raise a different view point. Many users of macs are ordinary, non-techie people, who simply want a machine to do basic things. I know people with very old macs, and they are happily using them for simple purposes. I have 10.6.8, and any upgrade would cost me some money to upgrade parallels. Macs can run for years, and I believe that it is important for equipment to be able to be used for long periods of time, if the user wishes. Also, earlier OS are very commonly unsed in coutries where money and internet is not as available as to many of us.
I also use a mac with XP as I need a small install base for only one PC based software that I occasionally use.
As a developer, I would expect them to look at the actual installed back of OS, and realise that some simple functionality should be backward to existing users. The ability for a phone to connect to earlier OS is something which I did not even think about - I thought it would be automatic. Its also not that difficult to develop.
The forums are awash with frustrated new pruchasers of Lumia phones, suddenly realising that their expected functionality with PC Suite, etc has now gone. Many of those people are very frustrated, and they will pass on their frustrations to others, and sales will be affected.
I have been a Nokia user now for about six years, and I have watched the same frustrations of users, requesting Nolia to develop expected connection, integration, and sync software that other phone manufacturers seem to be able to do. Finally, a reasonable PC Suite version is now developed, but not compatible with Lumia?? Do we have to go through the whole waiting thing again? Why cannot Nokia look at this not as a software problem, but an expected functionality feature.

• Logitech C910HD webcam not working in Mac OSX 10.6.6

I'm currently using Mac OSX 10.6.6 and flash  10.1.102.64. My problem occurs in the most recent versions of Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. I am able to select my cam by exact name in the settings for video and as an unknown usb device for audio with its built in microphone (the volume bar shows activity instantly). Launching the webcam (on the 5-6 sites I attempted) just creates a blank white image. The webcam works fine in all non-flash applications I tried. My lower quality 10 year old firewire cam still works fine in flash. Logitech is telling me this is an Adobe issue. Any ideas?

Hi, I remember another user having an issue with the C910HD and don't know if it was resolved or not. I just had a note about upgrading to HQ.
This is a link to Logitech's Forum:
http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Webcams/bd-p/quickcam_software
I don't use a webcam so can't be too much help. Hopefully another user will respond to your thread.
If you can see videos on youtube, than that is an indicator that Flash Player is Installed and working.
You can also use the Search Forum feature at the top right of the Flash Player forum and perhaps find some threads with the same issue.
Thanks,

For about the past week, Facebook has been taking forever to load (or just doesn't) on my mac (OSX 10.5.8; Safari 5.0.6).  Other sites are fine.  I routinely empty the cache, clear history, cookies, etc. each time I shut down.  Suggestions?

I don't use Facebook, but I can say that clearing the cache every time you shut down is excessive - unless you're sure the cache is corrupt you should leave it alone.  It exists to speed up your browsing experience by loading frequently requested items from your drive rather than downloading them fresh from the internet each time.  So, I would say stop clearing your cache and see what happens.
As for clearing cookies: I'm not sure what method you currently use, but I would recommend you download and install CCleaner.  It's free, and allows you to build up a list of cookies that you want to clear and those you want to keep, before deleting them.
Both of these may help speed things up by reducing the amount of work Safari has to perform whilst browsing.  Regardless, I'd say that, unless there's a reason you've not mentioned for performing the "purging" that you do, making these two changes should see improvements in general web browsing if not specifically when loading Facebook.

• Why does FlashPlayer not install in Mac OSX Snow Leopard?

I've downloaded FlashPlayer for Mac OS, and the entire install process is completed successfully. But I do not have FlashPlayer capability, and I cannot find FlashPlayer on my hard drive. I've downloaded all of the recent updates for Mac OSX Snow Leopard, have closed all programs, shut down and restarted--nothing works. After a supposedly "successful" installation, I don't have FlashPlayer. What's up?

ADE does not recognize Sony devices on the Mac.  You'll need to use the Sony software instead.
