Passwords not working after restart

After the server is restarted users can't login until the password is reset. I have a few generic accounts that are not affected. All passwords are Open Directory. Was going to try Crypt password to see if the issue persists. I have turned off the ability to change passwords on all accounts. The solution I had been given was to change the admin passwords. I did that. It still doesn't matter. I could change an account password. Login. Restart the server and not be able to login till the password has been reset in Workgroup manager. The server is 10.4.6 and this seems to have been happening since 10.4.2.
iMacG4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It is possible for the Password Server's SASL realm to change across restarts if the hostname has never been set explicitly. The default realm, if none is set, is hostname. However, depending on the order things get launched at boot, hostname may return the Bonjour name instead of the DNS name. For SASL purposes, it does not matter what the realm name is, but it must be the same all the time. It's the uncertainty that causes the problem. You can set the value for the SASL realm with the "mkpassdb -setrealm" command. After setting the realm, type, "killall PasswordService" to restart the daemon. The two SASL realm values to try are 1. whatever is returned by 'hostname' and 2. "localhost" realm.
If niether of those realms work, then:
1. set hostname correctly (mycomputer.example.com).
2. set the SASL realm to the same thing
3. restart PasswordService
4. reset the user passwords
After the realm is set, you should not have this problem again.

  • Changed Password Not working after restart[What to do]

Recently I've changed my password, but it's not working after restart.
I've noticed that, input option is not taking one of the password characters which is '!'.
I've the recovery disks, system accepts my fingerprint too.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Let me explain you what happened.
One evening I was trying to open my ThinkPad. Usually it asks for
fingerprint or password(I'm not sure which password, power-on/hard
drive). But this time I failed using my finger. and I tried with
    password, but could not recall.
Then I restart and again tried with finger, this time it worked. Now
after login in Windows XP I removed all old fingerprints and create
few new. When I create new, it was asking for password, or new
password to replace. As I could not recall the pass, I've given new
    password to replace.
Now to check I gave a restart. Fingerprint accepted for Power-on but
also asking for password again(Now I can see it's for Hard Drive). I
tried with new password. But it's not working. And even not taking one
    character ('!') of the password.
Now can you tell me, if I did change password for Hard Drive in the
last description. Or is that possible to change it from Windows XP
environment. Else it's possible that the Hard Drive password remain as
it was which has been set from ThinkVantage before OS boot. Let me
know if you've any query which I've missed.
    Thanks.

  • PCI wireless card does not work after restart - FM2-A55M-E33

Installed TP-LINK WN751ND wireless PCI card onto FM2-A55M-E33 motherboard. The card works fine after cold start, but does not work after restart. Windows recognises the card, but it gets code 10, cannot start.
BIOS is updated (v.11.1), as well as drivers and Windows 7 64.
I suspect that this might be the issue: Incorrect ASPM Transitions on the GPP Interface as found in ChipsetMotherboard_TechDocs/48671.pdf on AMD's official support site.
Does anyone know more about this issue?

Great! I've done that and now my card shows up. Thing is, when I try to get an IP address, it won't work. Here is the command output:
ieee80211 phy0: wl_ops_config: change monitor mode: false (implement)
    ieee80211 phy0: wl_ops_config: change power-save mode: false (implement)
    ieee80211 phy0: wl_ops_bss_info_changed: qos enabled: false (implement)
And then it times out and no IP is assigned. The thing is, wpa_supplicant stays alive after this time out, and I am unable to kill it (killall -9 wpa_supplicant won't kill it). At this point if I try to reboot the machine, it will stop at 'Rebooting' and won't go anywhere. If I turn off the wireless card in its switch Linux crashes. If I try to get an ip again (by running dhcpcd) the command will hang and not return to the shell anymore.
I am unable to find any useful information in the logs.
    Got any more suggestions?
Thanks! (And sorry to disturb so much)

  • Macbook Pro Password not working after crash!

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro and I installed Mavericks late last year. Last night Mavericks crashed while I was working on Excel. I restarted the system but now the password would not let me log in.
After some searching on google, I tried the resetart with CMD+R and Utility option to reset the password, using Terminal for the User (only 1 user on the system), but its still not working. Then I changed the system administrator (root) password change as well, to no avail. I have reset the password 3 times and have tried blank as an attempt and as a password.
Nothing seems to be helping. Please help!!!

  • Microphone does not work after restarting computer

I just received the Creative Xmod soundcard yesterday after using an Icemat siberia usb headset sound card for a couple months. The sound is a lot better with the creative soundcard however, if I restart my computer and go back into ventrilo, my microphone does not work. It doesnt make any sound when I talk into it (almost as if it muted itself) but it hasnt. I check my sound settings and everything is the way it should be.....but the mic isnt producing any sound. It is not my headphones that is causing the problem because I have never had this problem with my old icemat soundcard. I am currently using :
    Sennheiser PC350 headset
    Windows XP Home Edition
    The newest version of Ventrilo

That is how I have ventrilo setup. A friend of mine said I should Mux set to Record Control, but it only gives me the option for Wave In =/

  • HT4798 username/password not working after upgrade to mountain lion

hello, on my imac after upgrading to mountain lion my computer password and/or username seems not to work anymore: when i want to install an update or search for updates on the app store the combination i used so far, does not work anymore. i tried to find out how to reset the computer password but without too much success, and i'm a bit confused, what can i do? thanks a lot

You went wrong at the very beginning by not erasing the hard drive of a used computer before starting to use it yourself. I suggest you do that now.
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices.
Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:
    Using Setup Assistant
Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.

  • HT4889 Password not working after migration

I migrated files from my iMac to my MacBook Air.  However, once completed, my login passwords would not work on teh MacBook Air.  I know I am using the right password.  How do I fix this?

In the meantime I was able to solve the problem.
The problem arises when the operating system on the target computer is an older version than on the source computer. I had OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion on my old MacBook Air (Source) and OS X 10.7.x Lion on the new MacBook Air (Target).
After installing OS X 10.8 from an USB Stick the problem was solved and I was able to log in. The transfer of user accounts and programs was done.

  • Dll soes not work after restart teststand

    Hi NI Team,
I have an issue whereby i am using a 3rd part dll to program a device. At 1st it is able to program correctly using the designated dll. But after i've restart the teststand, it still able to point to the dll, but seems like the dll is not working as it should be. In order to make it work again, I need to change the dll path to another location in order to make it work.
    I've attached the following
    Sequence.jpg
    - Shows the module configuration
    return_result.jpg
    - Shows the return result of a weird return as the suppose return result suppose to be "1" or "0"
    Please do advice. Thanks

Hi There - Thanks for the reply,
The problem i am facing is the dll that i am using does not work as it should after restart teststand, unless i change the path or point the dll to another new path. The error that i am getting is, the return result shows that it can't open the file path that that has been defined in the dll call path name parameter. The weird thing is, the dll able to work (able to point to the right image again ) after i point the dll to another path, meaning if i create a new folder then dump in the same dll inside the folder and point the dll to new folder it able to work. But i will see the same problem again after i restart teststand. In terms of unloading the dll, i have tried the run options to unload module either after step end or sequence end. But the problem still exists.....

  • Password not working after ID name change?

Hi, I changed my Apple ID to correspond with my new email address, and when I did the password for the account stopped working on my iPhone even though I only changed the account name, not the password. So I changed the password (they made me use an uppercase letter and eight characters, whereas before it was simply six lowercase letters - what's up with that?). The new password is still not working. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

go to settings>store>sign out and then sign back in with correct info. they made you change the password for your safety, they had everyone make their passwords like this now

  • Firefox is not working after restart. Need to reinstall every time I am starting PC.

    Hello everyone,
I was happily using Firefox untill few days ago. Since then Firefox takes about five minutes to start (you cant see in taskbar or Application in task manager, just in Processes in task manager). When it finaly opens the first window it is not responding and there just blank window). It does the same in safe mode.
I tried to reinstall it several time, with deleting every Firefox related files on computer (following every relevant instruction from Support). I tried to backup my profile and start with new one after reinstall. Every time with same result: Firefox works perfectly after reinstall (even when I transfer files from old profile, every bookmark is right), but when I restart computer the problem is back.
I checked PC for malware and viruses by Avast, there should be now collision with other software since I did not install anything recently. I have cleaned registres, cache and cookies with CCleaner.
I am running 64-bit Windows 7 Lenovo E430, everything worked perfectly for half a year. Only problem I can relate to is a warning message about low free space on system drive, which occured at the same time problems with Firefox started (but it is now even true, I have 5 GB of free space on system drive).
I found other unresolved topics, one of them with same system configuration as mine.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/956861?esab=a&as=aaq
    https://support.mozilla.org/cs/questions/958824
Any suggestions before I desperately change to Firefox Portable?

Why not install and try Firefox portable, it may well be a good troubleshooting step. Try running it from an external memory stick.
    The threads you referred to
    * [/questions/956861] was closed but never solved
    *[/questions/958824] similar
    Some system information would help
*How much RAM is installed ?
*What is the total size of the Hard Disk Drive ?
*What is the current amount of free-space in GB ? and as a percentage ?
I try not to use Windows but certainly at one stage a rule of thumb was 20-25% free space should be available. Under about 12% defragging of a disk would likely fail. A page file would need to be larger than the amount of RAM maybe 1.5X , and a hibernate file would be the size of the RAM.
    * Do not Hibernate if you are low on HDD space.
I suggest you proceed as follows
#Answer the above questions. I worry you have a lack of diskspace.
#Do a full scan with multiple and up-to-date anti-malware tools. Do not rely on Avast alone. No tool picks up everything. Report back what you scanned with and what was found.
#Backup and keep whatever profiles may be good or may contain recent information such as passwords and bookmarks, but do not use them yet.
#Download a new installer then Do a clean reinstall of Firefox, ensuring that the program folders are deleted before you re-install.
#Now restart, you expect the first restart to work. Close down and try again does it now work OK ?
The detailed instructions in the thread you read [/questions/958824#answer-436552] should help you.
If you have continuing problems is this after a restart of Firefox, or a restart of the Windows Operating System ?

  • EM not working after restart

I have an inherited installation of OEM that I cannot get to work. By which I mean I get a "503 Service Unavailable Service is not initialized correctly. Verify that the repository connection information provided is correct" error in my browser. This might have been caused when I tried to change the sysman password. I think OEM was still running after the pw change, but after a database restart (application of Oracle patch) it has stayed broken.
I have only been working with Oracle for a few months, I do not depend on OEM for a lot but I need to get OEM working again. I have googled for answers and read documentation, but I am missing something and I am hoping one of you all will know what it is.
OEM version: 11.2.0.1.0 (agent) Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 5 Grid Control (oms)
    database version: 11.2.0.1.0
I have seem to have three oracle homes:

    agent: /u01/app/oracle/agent10g
    oms: /u01/app/oracle/oms10g
    OS: linux
I have attempted several times to drop and create the repository but end up with the same errors. I don't think the drops and creates have been successful though, because of errors during the process and becuase the sysman user keeps getting locked.
The repository errors look like these:

  • Password not working after using Migration Assistant

Recycled my MacBook to my wife after reinstalling the OS so that it was a fresh machine. However, she wanted to have family photos /videos  on this machine so she has them locally if she takes machine out of house. So, I used Migration Assistant to transfer these from my mini-mac to the MacBook. Of course this meant I then became a named user the MacBook and the Photos/videos were transferred successfully over to my account.
When I log into the MacBook using the newly created account for my wife I of course cannot see the files transferred over in her directory but when I use Finder I can view the Users and can see the files have been transferred into my directory.
If I log out of my wife's acount and try to login to my account my password fails. Pretty sure I'm entering the correct password and the hint comes up with what looks like a valid hint. Can't be 100% sure as have so many passwords but irrespective if also states in the hint message that I can use my Apple ID to reset this passwordh which is what I'd lke to do to avoid confusion
Going back to the mini-mac I've gone to the Apple ID site (so my password to acccess this works) but cannot see how this allows me to reset a passord for a device.
Too be honest I thought the password for MacBook was my Apple ID Password but clearly not as it works to get access to manage my Apple ID
Hopefully I've explained in enough detail but let mw know if more needed

FIxed it myself. Logged in as wife went to System Prefs > Security and managed to change my passwrod from there. Seems a bit strange but hey it worked
